Helping our bird friends!

In the summer months, birds eat lots of seeds from flowers and berries from trees and shrubs. Some birds eat insects and caterpillars, too.

As it gets colder, the flowers and insects all die for the winter season, and that means there is not a lot of food for birds to eat!

It's easy to provide water for birds in winter!

Providing drinking water is one of the most important things we can do to help birds!

1. Find a dish or a saucer and fill with water.

2. Put a big rock in the dish so the little birds can perch on the rock to get a drink.

3. Put clean water in every day.

This is a Chickadee!

1. Ask your grownup if you can put up a bird feeder

2. Ask if they can help you fill it with bird seed

3. Keep it filled up every day!

What do birds like to eat?

Chickadees like to eat suet, sunflower seeds, and peanuts

American goldfinches like to eat sunflower seeds and thistle seeds

Eastern Bluebirds like to eat mealworms and fruit.
