Helping our bird friends!
from Winter 2020 JUMP!
Art, photos, and words By Jacqui Mehring
In the summer months, birds eat lots of seeds from flowers and berries from trees and shrubs. Some birds eat insects and caterpillars, too.

As it gets colder, the flowers and insects all die for the winter season, and that means there is not a lot of food for birds to eat!
Providing drinking water is one of the most important things we can do to help birds!
1. Find a dish or a saucer and fill with water.
2. Put a big rock in the dish so the little birds can perch on the rock to get a drink.
3. Put clean water in every day.
1. Ask your grownup if you can put up a bird feeder
2. Ask if they can help you fill it with bird seed
3. Keep it filled up every day!
