CREATIVE CHALLENGE using the 2019Pantone®Color of the Year2222 16-1546 Living Coral “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”
Now that Pantone® has announced their 2019 Color of the Year, it’s time for us to announce our 2019 Creative Challenge! Last year, we hosted a Creative Challenge to challenge Creatives to produce a styled photo shoot using their choice of Pantone’s® 2018 Spring Colors; this time we’re narrowing the field to only being able to use Living Coral as their inspiration!
The styled shoot MUST consist of several vignettes, as Southern Celebrations Magazine™ is an inspirational magazine. Since we are in the market of celebrating every occasion that life offers us, the styled editorial shoot does not have to focus solely on weddings; it can be a bridal shower, baby shower, dinner party, etc!
Deadline for entries is May 31st, 2019 and must be submitted via SouthernCelebrationsMag.com.
Please submit 15-45, professionally edited photographs. If you are chosen for the print feature, you cannot submit your styled editorial to any other publication or blog until after Volume 9 has launched. Please include every vendor that participated that way they can be given credit.
The winner will be chosen on June 3rd, 2019 and their styled editorial shoot will be featured in Volume 9, as well as online. All submissions will be considered for an online feature.
We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

To Get Started Choosing Your Venue, Keep These Tips in Mind:
SET A BUDGET This is by far the most important step. You have to have an idea of how much you can afford before you start planning anything! WHAT’S YOUR GUEST COUNT? In order to pick the right venue, you’ll need an estimate of how many people will be attending. You don’t have to have exact numbers at this point. PICK A LOCATION Are you wanting a local celebration or a destination celebration? PICK A DATE Open your calendar and start thinking about what date you want. You can pick a venue based off of what date you want or pick a date based off of what’s available at a particular venue. WHAT’S YOUR STYLE? Do you want a formal celebration, casual celebration, or a black tie affair? These factors will influence what venue you choose.

How to Find the Right Wedding Gown for Your Unique Shape
By: Kimberly Lehman Owner of Love, Laughter & Elegance: Wedding & Event Planning | Photography: Imagine It Photography
You are getting married, and are looking for the perfect bridal gown! Congratulations! You are about to embark upon a timehonored tradition, and while for many brides it is a joyous process, some find it to be difficult and frustrating. It does not have to be that way. Some brides have been dreaming of their wedding dress for years, tearing pictures out of magazines, and saving their favorite online images to their phones or Pinterest boards. There are brides that have no idea what style of dress they would like, or even what may flatter their figures best. Or, there are brides that go into a salon to try on the gown of their dreams, only to realize that it doesn’t suit them at all. They often find another dress that is completely unlike what they have envisioned, and love it. Let’s make the search a little easier, with a few things to remember when shopping for that dream dress.

elongate your figure. The skirt of a gown that flares out into an A shape, will detract from the thickness at your waistline. It is also highly recommended to not wear a trumpet shape gown, as it will bring attention to the widest part of your figure. This can make you feel out of balance with your shape. If you have an hourglass-shaped figure: Look out, curves ahead! A very defined shape, with the hips and shoulders having the same width, and a narrower waist. Look for gowns that show off your best assets. Low-cut necklines are sexy and appropriate for your hourglass figure. Examples of such necklines include halter tops, v necks, and sweetheart. Select a gown with a low, dropped waist or ruching detail. These features will rock your curves and make your figure look amazing. This body type can wear a mermaid or trumpet style gown very well. Avoid wearing straight-cut gowns, as this type of dress may be more ill-fitting through the waist and hips. Pleats and gathers in the skirt also do not flatter this body type, especially around the hips. Special Notes When Selecting Your Gown Look for gowns that are appropriate for your height. It all depends on the length of the skirt and the cut of the gown. Many dresses have lace or are heavily decorated on the skirts. Make sure that the details on the gown hit you in the right spots. You don’t want a sheer top cut below your waistline, or a lace medallion on the skirt to emphasize something you would rather disguise. (Continued on next page.)

Petite brides will look their best in trumpet shapes, sheath gowns, column dresses and narrow A-line cuts. These styles will make you look taller. As a side note, this was especially true for me when I was shopping for my wedding gown. I am a petite woman in height, only four feet, eleven inches tall, but very curvy. It was very challenging to find the right gown that made me feel like a princess. Simple, classic and elegant was the order of the day. This mantra still holds true for me, these many years later, as I always consider my wardrobe carefully. Overall textured fabrics will work well on a gown, but avoid over-the-top decorations. Also avoid drop-waist styles and skirts that will hit your calves, as they will make your legs look shorter.
Taller brides can definitely rock bias cut or sheath dresses. Strapless dresses are always fashionable and look great. The rule to remember is to make sure the gown is long enough in all aspects to complement your figure appropriately.
Plus-sized brides have options as well. The trick is to emphasize the best parts of your figure. Gowns with empire waists and tailored details work very well. You don’t want a dress to be too snug, but well fitting. Proper tailoring and alterations are key. The idea is for the dress to rest gently on your body and define your waist, flattering your curves. Sweetheart necklines will also draw attention upwards from your waistline.
If you are well endowed in the chest area, consider a rounded neckline, such as a boat or scoop neckline. A rounded neckline will frame your face and collarbone, like the wedding gown of Meghan Markle. Your décolletage becomes an asset in supporting the overall look of the dress. It is best to pass on strapless gowns with straight horizontal necklines. Dresses made with fabrics with sheen and ruching will make you appear bustier than you really are. Going strapless is very possible, and a wonderfully stylish option. Look for gowns with great support already sewn into the lining of the bodice, like a corset feature, or boning.
If you have narrow hips, balance your look with bustles and full skirts. If you’re curvier, like myself, go for a narrow waisted gown with a skirt that drapes and flows loosely down your legs.
Finally, take a moment or two during your dress search to take in all of the aspects of this unique experience: The sights of all the beautiful dresses, the sounds of the other brides and their parties helping to select the perfect gown, and the feel of the various fabrics and trims beneath your fingertips. There is also the excitement and knowledge that you are selecting the gown you will wear for one of the most important and meaningful days of your life. It’s a heady feeling. You are the bride. Embrace it, and enjoy your new beginning! Cheers! SOUTHERN CELEBRATIONS MAGAZINE | VOLUME EIGHT

The Morning of Your Wedding
Written By: Carissa Jacobs
The time has finally arrived: your wedding day! You probably didn't sleep much, but it's now morning and we're here to tell you that the nervous, jittery feeling that you're feeling: is completely normal! Every detail that you've been dreaming of is about to come to fruition! A wedding has many moving parts; there's your dress, your hair and makeup, your venue, your caterer, your florist and planner, and it's worrying about whether or not your groom is prepared......... STOP! And just breathe! Here's a list of things to tell yourself the morning of your wedding: It's Going To Be Okay Like really, everything is going to be okay! It's your wedding day, whatever happens, just let it go! At the end of the day, you'll still be married to the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with! You Are Beautiful Yes, you are truly beautiful! We all have our issues when it comes to our appearances, no one is immune to that. But remember, your groom loves you and is marrying you for who you are, not what you look like. Don't let the little voices in your head weigh you down....you are beautiful! Trust Your Vendor Team You hired your wedding professionals for a reason. For many vendors, this isn't their first rodeo. Now trust that they'll have your back and give you a day that you'll always remember!
SOUTHERNCELEBRATIONSMAG.COM
Love Surrounds You Remember that on your wedding day, you are surrounded by people that love you. Your friends and family are there to support you because of their love and they only want to see you happy. Enjoy A Moment Alone With Your Spouse Your wedding day will feel like a whirl wind that's going ninety to nothing. Remember to take a moment to yourselves, even if it's just for a short period of time. It's your wedding day! Yes, your guests are there to celebrate your union and will be excited to congratulate you, but at the end of the day, it'll just be you and your groom; show him during your wedding that he's the most important thing in your life. Our suggestion is to take a moment after the ceremony/postceremony photos and before the reception to sit down in solitude with your groom. Have a quick, intimate meal, have a drink, or just enjoy the alone time, before the whirlwind of wedding events continue. 21

Let’s rewind time to the first time I met Hunter Gerald, owner of The Barn on Blueberry Hill. It was at a launch party for our Food & Drink Issue hosted by The Gilded Artichoke in Zachary, Louisiana. HG introduced himself and his mother, Laura Browning Gerald; he told me about the barn and how he planned to open the venue to the public. Fast forward to a few months ago, it was time to plan a photo shoot at the barn in preparation for a 2019 opening of The Barn on Blueberry Hill! I knew I didn’t want to go the traditional route when designing the setup. I wanted a way to show readers that a barn can be a very versatile space. I contacted Trina Gilmore, owner of JT Events and told her my vision for the barn. She knocked it out of the park! Combined with the beautiful floral designs of Hummingbird Floral Studio, this jewel-toned styled shoot shows us how we can have a barn celebration without being vintage or rustic.
The Barn is complete with a cozy sitting area, restroom, kitchen, and a bedroom suite complete with it’s own private bathroom and separate entrance.

T There are many events that will take place during your engagement and wedding planning, and one of them might include a bridal boudoir photo session. What is a boudoir session, one may ask? It is a photo session, in which you are posed by a professional photographer, wearing pretty lingerie. Often, professional hair styling and makeup are also included in a boudoir session. This photo session may take place in a photography studio, hotel room, or one’s own home. Sometimes photos are taken in outdoor, urban, or unexpected, non-traditional settings. The photos are then often given to your future spouse as a gift before the wedding, or as an anniversary gift.
That’s the basic definition of boudoir photography. But it is so much more than that! Photography is an art form, no question about it. Boudoir photography is that same art form, elevated. It is sensual, soft, cozy, romantic, lush. It can also be edgy and raw, blatantly sexy, and badass. As Patrick Swayze once said in a famous movie, “it’s a feeling, a heartbeat.” Nothing could be more true about this artistic medium. An experienced boudoir photographer can pose you in ways that will bring out curves that you never thought you had, and will show your inner goddess off to perfection. It will leave you feeling glamorous, sexy, and empowered in a way that will keep you (and your significant other) smiling for years to come.
So, what can you expect to happen during a boudoir session? During your initial consultation with a boudoir photographer, you can discuss what you like to wear, whether it is lacy and daring, or soft and sweet. Some of the best boudoir photos I have ever seen have been with the model in an oversized, slouchy sweater, with one bare shoulder, and a pair of warm and cozy socks that reach above the knee. You may prefer to don the bridal undergarments that will be worn on your wedding day. Add your veil for a soft, timeless romantic look. If you or your intended are sports fans, why not go for a playful look with a favorite team jersey? Perhaps you would prefer a button-down shirt and a tie for a classic, professional vibe. Or would you like to go for an all-out bombshell look? The options are endless, as are the wardrobe choices. Play around with different types of looks to see what complements your figure. Don’t forget to consider the shoes, stockings, jewelry and other accessories that will complete your ensemble. A few props can also enhance your photos, like an antique hand mirror, or a soft blanket that feels amazing against bare skin. If you want to feel like a queen, by all means, bring along a tiara. It’s your day! Anything goes!

During your consultation, your photographer will also talk about posing, and how many settings and wardrobe changes you will utilize. You will want to schedule your photo session a few months before your wedding or anniversary, so that your photographer has enough turn-around time for editing your photos, and to place your order for prints or an album.
It’s perfectly natural to feel a little bit nervous about an intimate photo session like this. You will relax once the camera starts clicking, I promise. If you would feel more comfortable with having a gal pal to accompany you to your session, definitely ask. Perhaps they would like to participate in a session as well. Always more fun! Also, go easy on the alcohol and salty foods a few days prior to the photo shoot to prevent bloating. Be sure to drink lots of water, to stay well hydrated, and set your skin to glowing. Enjoy being pampered by a hair stylist and make up artist prior to your photo session. This is your moment to shine, and revel in all of your womanly glory.
I highly encourage all women to schedule this type of photo session for themselves, at least once in their lives. It doesn’t matter what age you are, or size. All women are beautiful in their own unique shapes, and skin tones. The overall experience is amazing, and one that you will never forget! You will come away with quite the boost in self-confidence. You will feel very empowered, and ready to take on the world, in this next chapter of your life.

Carley’s Advice to Brides: “The best advice I would give to brides about their wedding day is to not worry about what other people think or say. It is YOUR day and it is about the MARRIAGE between you and your spouse, it is not about the guests and the party, so do what makes you happy to create the most magical and memorable day for you and your spouse. “

Some of Megan’s Favorite Moments From Her Wedding Day:
-Spending the day, I had always dreamed of with
my closest friends and family -The moment the doors to the sanctuary opened
as I stood there in my wedding gown next to my dad and seeing my groom for the first time. -Since Zach and I opted not do a first look-so a
moment that is etched in my memory for a lifetime is the look and emotion that filled his being when I entered the sanctuary and made my way down the aisle. -Putting on my dress the day of wedding was so
different than all of the other fittings. This was the day Zach was going to see it and I couldn’t wait. I felt so beautiful in my Anne Barge gown that I couldn’t wait for him to see and twirl me around in it. -Seeing our wedding guests enjoying themselves
and shagging to the music of the band. -Walking into the reception just before we were
announced- standing there with my new husband and seeing all of my lifelong friends and family standing there to celebrate the newly formed “Sutton family.” A moment I will never forget.

The Inspiration Behind Megan’s Décor: Born and raised in the south, I love tradition and anything with a monogram! When my wedding planner, Meghan Bishop, and I conjured up what I felt best described me as a person, southern classic elegance, she turned them into the wedding theme: Southern Elegance, with a side of pink. We used beautiful magnolias, the softest shades of pink, southern monograms, and my dress as our starting points. Teamed with our talented florist, all my wedding dreams came true! The ceremony took place at my childhood church, The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Augusta and the reception was held at the historic Old Medical College of Georgia (which we chose because of its historic background and beauty). The southern vibe was carried through with the abundant use of magnolias in the church and reception. Wreaths, garland, pew markers, and table arrangements all had a foundation of magnolia and fern. We also incorporated ferns because my father loves to grow ferns and we thought they would look pretty to add to our southern décor.
Medical College which included our signature cocktail, Moscow Mule, and sweet tea and lemonade. Guests used our custom cocktail cups and napkins designed by Emily McCarthy. We also served our favorite beer in our custom koozie that had a sketch of the Old Medical College of Georgia on one side and our names and wedding date on the other. Because we had a lot of out of town guests from Iowa on the groom’s side, my best friend drew a custom watercolor print of Augusta that included important locations of our wedding and Augusta landmarks. We incorporated these into the wedding guest gift bags. My bouquet was a classic hand tied bouquet of Juliette garden roses, mother of pearl roses, and red and white Mikado spray roses, interspersed with magnolia and white astilbe to soften the look. Invitation:
As previously stated, our inspiration that we used for the design of our wedding was classic southern elegance with a hint of pink. Armed with this inspiration, Meghan (my wedding planner) and our custom invitation designer, Kristen Smith, created the most perfect invite that embodied all of it. The invitation itself was an engraved 5 7/8 x 8 1/4 on heavy weigh ivory paper with My mom and I are very close and I think she is a classic classic verbiage and beautiful calligraphy. The magic happened beauty. She was my inspiration when I went shopping for my dress / I wanted one just like hers, modernized. I choose a V-neck with the corresponding pieces that went with the suite. The gown designed by the Georgia native designer, Anne Barge. The reception card featured a watercolor, painted by Kristen herself of the Old Medical college, the RSVP card coordinated with the gown was pearl colored, long sleeved, adorned with scalloped alencon lace and a silk Mikado ballgown skirt. The back featured calligraphy found in the invite and all were packaged in a double envelope with a custom liner that was palest of pinks along with a kissing buttons along the bodice and a chapel length train. To complete my look, I wore my mother's cathedral length heirloom brilliant magnolia on the inner envelope of the two. My invitation was one of my favorite aspects of my wedding. And, to add to the veil. uniqueness of it all, my grandmother hand addressed all of them and sent out to our guest with postage stamps of magnolias (of Reception décor: course!) As guests entered the Old Medical College, they entered into the Rehearsal dinner décor: foyer. Here they were greeted with a gigantic magnolia frame that my talented wedding planner designed and hand made to Being from Augusta, Georgia, it is hard not to like golf. Just beyond the foyer in the reception room, is a rotunda. We placed our 4-tier cake in the middle of this rotunda; It was a classic white cake decorated with fresh flowers. Behind the cake, in the center of the room Meghan, our wedding planner, placed two massive farm tables as our head table. These tables stretched the length of the room and we had the florist put 3 massive arrangements boasting of magnolia, sword fern, white hydrangea, blush stock and akita roses in beautiful silver trumpet vases. It truly was a sight. Our place settings were bone china edged in platinum with custom gold monogrammed napkins that coordinated with our cocktail cups.

How did you and your husband meet? We initially met each other in Augusta when Zach rotated for a month during his residency through the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where I work as a nurse, it wasn’t until a year later that we reconnected and Zach asked me to come over and help him make dinner as our first date. I do not cook (which he didn’t know at the time) so this was quite funny that I would be learning to cook on our first date. Zach grew up in Jefferson, Iowa and went to medical school in Iowa. As he considered other places for his residency, his mom truly believes God had a plan for him to be in Augusta and meet the southern girl he would marry. 63

How We Met: Tom and I met on a blind date to the restaurant, Babalu Tapas and Tacos. We were sat at a tiny two person table near a showing of the 1950’s classic television show, “I Love Lucy”. We sat and talked for what felt like years, talking like we had known each other our whole lives. After that first date you can easily say the rest of our love story is history. The Proposal: Tom and I, along with two of our close friends, woke up early on the morning of September 23, 2016, to watch the sun rise on the beach. Little did I know that Tom had the morning completely planned out. We arrived to the beach around 5:45, and at that time the sky was just starting to glow and the dolphins were jumping in and out of the water. As we were walking along the beach I noticed someone's name written it the sand. Her name was Mary, spelled with two R's. After taking a step back I realized it wasn't a name, but instead outlined in the sand was Marry Me? All I could think was how happy I was for the couple that was about to get engaged. Two seconds later I hear Tom say, "Heather, turn around". He was down on one knee with the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen.

Mandy’s Advice to Brides:
“Enjoy the moment! Something that you spent months planning will be over in the blink of an eye, so enjoy it! & Don’t sweat the small things....these are memories your making! Example: the Officiant called my husband, who’s name is Cory, Cody the whole time! All of us at the alter, bridesmaids, groomsmen, bride and groom, couldn’t hold back our laughter. That could have been something I let ruin my day, but I didn’t. I laughed it off! It’s still a running joke to this day amongst all of our guests, to call my husband “Cody”! Another example, was when our 2 year old son walked up to the alter, during vows, and began tugging on my dress saying “momma, mom, Ma!” When I finally looked down and said “yes?” He asks “can I go to Mimi’s house?” The crowd died with laughter! I could have been upset that my ceremony turned into comedy hour, but instead I embraced it! And to this day everyone tells me that our ceremony was the funniest, most entertaining, ceremony they have ever attended!”
Describe your wedding style and the little things you added to make your wedding special and unique: "The color scheme and/or theme, I pulled from my own personal style. Black and white are classic, and must haves in my everyday wardrobe. And gold is always my go to for any kind of pop or sparkle! Something I think was really special about my wedding, was that most of the decor and things were made by me and my family! It made for fun times! Making things for the wedding with my kids, and my mom.....Those are memories you just can’t pay for! My favorite thing I made for my wedding was my bridal bouquet! A simple fresh flower bouquet just wasn't me, so I opted for a broach bouquet. Some of the broaches were bought new, others where found at flea markets, Some were just pretty, & others had a special meaning for me! My 2 year old even helped me pick where to put the small broaches."

MAGGIE & SAM October 26, 2017 | Trolley Barn, Georgia Photography: Krisandra Evans Photography | Planner: Peachy Keen Planners | Floral: Peachy Keen Décor | Venue: Trolley Barn | Dress: The Sentimentalist | Caterer: Fox Bros.
About the Proposal: “Sam and I met while we were both working in Dallas, TX. We had mutual friends and so we always found ourselves at the same house parties and brunches. It took several months for us to start dating, and several months after that Sam took a promotion that would move him to Erie, PA. I made the choice to move up there with him and after three years of battling the cold and snow he decided to propose. We went on a ski trip with a group of our closest friends to Durango, CO. One day, we all went dog sledding which has been a bucket list dream of mine. Sam pulled out the ring right as I was falling into waist high snow which resulted in an engagement photo that makes me look terrified of the sight of him down on one knee. “

From Maggie:
Q. What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Q. Let’s talk wedding dÊcor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY? A. Sam and I both wrote our own vows and I was really looking forward to his and to reading him mine. We are not super A. We had VERY little DIY at our wedding. I believe the dessert touchy-feely, so being vulnerable and open about our relationship table and the seating chart were the only things that we really in front of all of our friends and family was scary and exciting. I made/put together by hand. My amazing wedding planner had a also think the speeches were a huge highlight. My dad absolutely closet full of random decorations and I was able to pick out what I blew everyone away with wit, snark, and love. We also kept wanted to borrow for the day. I am not a crafty or pinteresty talking about how we couldn't wait for the ceremony to be over person, so not having to worry about making decor was a huge so that we could just dance and party with friends from out of relief for me and I absolutely love how everything turned out in town. the end! Q. Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that Q.: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest you'd like to share with other couples planning their day? entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding? A. Do NOT get caught up in the small stuff! Thanks to my amazing planner, photographer, and vendors, I was able to truly enjoy my A. Our favorite parts were definitely the personal and local wedding. No one will remember if you handcrafted 300 table touches were were able to add to our wedding. Since we chose to settings or stayed up until midnight the night before making sure have our wedding at a venue a mile from our house we were able everything was perfect. We treated our wedding like a huge party to have our dog there as the ring bearer which was so great. where I got to wear a white dress, and that was perfect for us. Having my sister and best friend sing the first dance was also a Our one regret is not designating someone to film the speeches/ highlight. I am not very comfortable with dancing or being in the first dance! The pictures are amazing, but video would be spotlight, so it was nice to take some of the eyes off of us for that priceless. special moment. We had Fox Bros. BBQ cater and everyone was blown away by it. It all felt very casual and low pressure!
