WEDDING DAY TIPS FROM THE

Wedding & Event Professionals offer some great advice for brides and grooms that are in the planning phases of their big day! “A great way for engaged couples to track wedding expenses is have come to share in your joy . “ Hire professionals that feel like they are your friends too. Mutual respect, everyone feels comfortable but you can joke around and have fun on the big day!” - SarahBess Brown, Kiss & makeup Full Service Studio “Excited and nervous brides tend to clutch their bouquet up high, covering their best assets and the prettiest part of the dress. Bouquets should be carried low below the navel and tipped slightly forward. Also, ask you florist to clearly mark the back of the bouquet with a row of pins, a knot or small bow so that is carried facing the direction the designer intended.” - Michelle Martin Pierce, The Sentimental Petal “Pause right before you walk down the aisle. Take a deep breath, and look around at everyone in the room. That’s a moment you’ll want to remember forever.” -Rachel Taylor, Daylight Fading Photography “Remember to eat! I make bride and groom plates for them to enjoy before they are announced and greet their guests. The night will go so quickly so the chance to sit and eat in the beginning is a must. I also make togo boxes for the couple to have after the wedding. We will pack them in the car before they depart or have them sent to their room if they aren't leaving directly following the wedding.” -Lisa Boudreaux LeCoq, The Gilded Artichoke Catering “If you don't have a first look, have a few minutes alone after the ceremony while your family gathers for portraits. Spend the few minutes soaking in the excitement with each other and this moment would be perfect for some romantic and intimate portraits. Taking a moment like this will also help you remember the details and slow down to enjoy the rest of your big day.” -Madeline Weatherford, Madeline Grace Photography “First looks aren't just for the groom. Consider doing a first look with the bride's father.” - Robert Davis, Robert Davis Photography “-Please use a good cake knife to cut your cake. Go and get it in the kitchen! A large chef knife works best. Do not buy a ridiculously expensive knife set that won't even yield pretty cake slices. Have someone designated to cut BOTH cakes so that they aren't wasted. The groom's cake usually gets forgotten about. Buy "to go" boxes to pack extra slices in. If you are using your own cake table or stand please make sure it's level?! Something really tall is going on it and the guests aren't looking at what you have set up. The guests will look at your cake and assume it's leaning.
As a past bride: Establish your guest list first! It's hard to do. *More guests doesn't necessarily mean best* Don't feel the need to ask 15 people to be in your wedding. I felt compelled to have a ton since I was so close with many girls but it gets hard dealing with a bunch of opinions. -I suggest getting a good photographer (making that a priority) because after the day is over you want good quality pictures to remember everything by. -Go on a honeymoon!!! Please don't skip this. It's so important!
-Ask your caterer for large food plates if your wedding is buffet style. Nothing is more annoying than small little plates for a main meal.” -Shelby Blair Lecoq, Baking On the Bayou “Consider an unplugged ceremony. It’s so frustrating when capturing the special moments in your ceremony & you see cell phone screens instead of guest smiling faces in every image; especially the bride walking down the aisle or the couple walking back after the ceremony.” - Melanie McCullough, MLM Photography XOXO—Happy Planning! How to Throw the Best Party Ever ….ON A BUDGET!
Here in the South, every occasion is worth celebrating and sometimes we need to stick to a budget. Here are 5 tips to keep your next celebration on a budget, while still having fun! {Please keep in mind that these tips are not suggestions for weddings, as those budgets are much different.}
SOUTHERN CELEBRATIONS MAGAZINE | VOLUME SEVEN

Timing is truly everything! If you’re looking to cut back on food expenses, the perfect time for a day-time celebration is from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m; it’s after lunch and before dinner. Your guests won’t expect a full meal. If you’re having a night-time shindig, the best times are from 7:00 p.mm. until 10:00 p.m. of course this is more adult friendly, but it’s after dinner, so guests shouldn’t expect a full meal.
Send digital invitations versus printing and mailing. By using social media and/or online resources such as E-vite, you can easily track RSVPs and save on design fees and postage.
Start planning in advance. This will give you time to price shop on décor; that way you’re not running around last minute, potentially paying more.
If it’s an adult party, create a signature drink versus having to buy a variety of different liquors. This way, you’ll only have to purchase 1—2 types of alcohol. And of course, supply plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for your guests who don’t drink alcohol.
Enlist your friends and family. If they offer, take them up on it, especially if they know how to cook well! And if party planning is their thing, by all means accept the help. In some cases, having more is better!
Happy Planning! SOUTHERNCELEBRATIONSMAG.COM

How Your Event Location Can Affect Your
Color Scheme
Written by: Courtney Cotharn-Lambert
Most brides, when coming up with the colors and relative theme of their wedding, forget to take into consideration, the already established ambiance of their selected venue. This is why one of the first steps any bride should do after announcing their engagement is to visit and select their venue.
Why? Not only will choosing your venue set the wedding date, but it will also set the tone for your color scheme. If a bride is thinking that she wants a rustic theme with neutral colors, a hotel venue wouldn’t necessarily be the best location for that theme. If the bride is thinking eclectic and vivid colors, maybe a church wouldn’t necessarily be the best location. For example: if a bride wants a spring themed wedding with plums, pinks, purples, and silvers, but the venue has walls that are a bright vivid burgundy, with dark wood and gold trim, tables that are dark cherry and gold and burgundy chairs; this would not work with her color scheme that she had in mind. Keep in mind that older churches tend to have older style carpet and decor. So if the church has vivid red carpet and the bridesmaids dresses are an emerald green, the wedding can end up looking Christmas themed in the middle of June.
Before you set your date, check out the venue first and make sure that particular venue and its decor will work with your color scheme. It can already be an overwhelming process to pick a venue, but it’s still super important that a bride takes the venue's decor into consideration when she's planning. Remember: If the venue is neutral, you are not limited with your color scheme. If the venue is anything outside of a neutral background, be selective. SOUTHERN CELEBRATIONS MAGAZINE | VOLUME SEVEN

How to Plan the U l t i m ate
Bachelorette Party! Written by: Kimberly Lehman, Owner of Love, Laughter & Elegance: Wedding & Event Planning
It’s time for “one last fling before the ring!” That’s right, it’s time to plan the Ultimate Bachelorette Party! This is a great occasion to share a memorable evening or weekend with your besties, and let loose before the wedding. Here are some ideas and tips to help you create an unforgettable soiree.
What is a “Bachelorette Party?”, you may ask. The modern day bachelorette party was modeled after the ever popular bachelor party, as a way for a single woman to celebrate with her closest friends and family before her marriage. This party is usually hosted by the ladies in the bridal party, but may be thrown by a close friend or relative, much like a bridal shower. It is a great time for bonding, and general merriment.
Check with the Bride first. What would she do for a Klondike Bar? Ask her what she envisions for her party. Does she just want a wild night out, or a relaxing weekend with her nearest and dearest? Does she have a location in mind? She may want to go club-hopping, and to dance with tons of people. She may want to go to a winery for a tasting, or a sip and paint party. The bride may want to stay local in her hometown and have a great meal and a movie with her friends, or she may want to head to the nearest metropolitan area to catch a Broadway-worthy show. Renting a vacation home in a place like Edisto Beach, South Carolina, or taking a riverboat cruise are also fun options. Las Vegas is always a popular destination for bridal parties. Are there any special requests or hard limits to the bachelorette fun? Would the bride like to see an exotic dancer or sip a favorite alcoholic drink throughout the evening? Does she enjoy games? A fun scavenger hunt, with pre-planned clues and small gifts at several locations, could provide lots of excitement and photo opportunities. Bachelorette Bingo or Pin the (insert item of choice here) on the body part of choice is always good for laughs. Just remember to keep it tasteful, depending on the bride-to-be’s personality. Also, remember that if there are guests that are under the legal drinking age, or simply do not indulge in adult beverages, to plan accordingly. This includes having pre-arranged transportation, or designated drivers.

To Theme, or not to Theme? That is the question. Many times, the party has a theme, such as Spa Day, or “Pop, Fizz, Clink!” Channeling our inner Mermaids, Unicorns, and Goddesses have been popular themes in recent years. Group fitness classes are also fun, with lots of choices available. Hot Yoga, Pilates, Spin Class, Bungee Cord and Fabric Aerial Classes, and yes, even Pole Dancing are all great options. Does the bride love music? A trip to Nashville would be a great theme, including cowboy boots, denim, rhinestones, and a visit to the Grand Ole Opry. Or perhaps a jaunt over to New Orleans, to sample beignets, gumbo, and the famous French Quarter would be perfect. If your bride is mad about the mouse, then slide on down to Orlando, to the Happiest Place on Earth – Disney World! Is the bride an avid traveler, or sports fanatic? Or does she prefer to wander leisurely through bookstores and flea markets? Does she enjoy shopping for pretty lingerie and accessories? Why not book a hair and makeup team, and a talented photographer, and host a boudoir marathon? Build the party around the bride’s interests and hobbies. Sometimes a theme can be as simple as using the colors of the wedding, and carrying it through the décor of the bachelorette party, from the invitations, to the tableware. Search a website like Pinterest for really cute and creative ideas. Don’t forget to coordinate the guests’ attire, with fun t-shirts or accessories to announce to all that you are part of the Bride’s Tribe. The bride should stand out among her crew, so add a great tiara and sash and you are ready to hit the town! Be sure to provide awesome swag for everyone, including a hang-over relief kit! There are so many options available, you can’t really go wrong in personalizing the celebration for the bride. Time is Money, or Divide and Conquer. Just as planning a very detailed wedding takes time, so does planning a smaller celebration, like the bachelorette party. The bachelorette party can take place anywhere from a few months to a week or two before the wedding. The sooner that the date is selected for the party, the sooner you can put your ideas into motion. Consider hiring an event planner to assist. Create a guest list. If the party is to be a surprise for the bride, consult with the other members of the bridal party and close friends, and decide on date, location, theme and overall budget for the party. Divide the party planning tasks accordingly: finding a venue for the party and making reservations, buying or making decorations, invitations and favors, planning activities or entertainment, ordering food and beverages, and transportation such as a limo, party bus, Uber or taxi. Also consider hiring a photographer to play paparazzi for the evening. They will capture the moments others may miss. Total up the costs of everything, and divide equally. Then collect the necessary amount of money from each guest to cover the bill, including tips. The only person that should not pay for anything is, of course, the bride. All she needs to do is enjoy spending time with her besties!

The day was rich with romance and drama. While getting ready, the bride and groom anticipated their first look which was staged at the magnificent sliding barn doors at the entrance of the venue. The outdoor ceremony on the lawn led the guests into a stunning view of the lush flowered arch leading to the overlook deck built into the side of the canyon. After their “I Do’s,” the coupe was whisked away for their romantic portraits which included the beautifully backlit golden hour at some of the venue’s most picturesque offerings. Following, the bride and groom entered the reception greeted by a rich farm table set with family heirloom rose embellished bone china, delicate crystal stemware, haute gold flatware and flanked by overflowing luxe floras. The wedding cake was simple elegance, white on white lace embellished off-set with a punch of floral color.
Finally, the sendoff in the vintage 1914 Ford Model T Convertible Touring Car ended the magical evening in a timeless romantic fashion! Any bride seeking a timeless romantic wedding day will definitely be inspired by this timeless editorial shoot.

A Note From the Photographer: "This destination elopement was planned around a timeless vibe. An early morning ceremony with a elegant luncheon, details included anemones, a non-traditional black bridal skirt, gold rimmed glassware, calligraphy adorned ribbon, and beautifully styled stationary suite. The Capen House provided a modern, yet classic, atmosphere for the couple to exchange vows in privacy while still offering a gorgeous campus for portraits. Lara-Jill designed this beautiful inspiration around the Capen House's grey exterior and airy space. No small piece was left unplanned, including the gorgeous multi-tier cake that showcased hand-made florals and a trail of candied sugar between layers."

At our Fall 2017 Workshop in Atlanta we had the privilege of having several photographers and amazingly talented Creatives join us for two different styled shoots. Our first location was at The Atlanta History Center’s historic Swan House. We wanted to show the soft, romantic sides of a wedding by using ash blues, whites, and greenery. Our second location was on the Smith Family Farm located on the Atlanta History Center’s grounds. We wanted this to be a fun, happy celebration!

A Note From the Photographer: “Caitlin chose the gorgeous Rosedown Plantation nestled in St. Francisville for her bridal session. She brought along her sister, mother, grandmother, and daughter for the occasion. Rosedown was established in the 1830s and is now a gorgeous 374 acres with a Great House, large live oak trees, and pleasure gardens. This classic A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline comes from David's Bridal. The satin texture of her dress was the perfect match for Caitlin and Jesse's simple, and rustic themed wedding celebration, and the sweeping train added just enough drama and elegance to the occasion. While they eloped last year, they hosted their large wedding for friends and family in Jena, LA on July 1st, 2017. For the big day, Caitlin added her "something blue" to the dress- a heart made from her late grandfather's shirt, stitched to the back. We love the small details they added to make everything unique and special!”

Caitlin’s Advice to Brides: “Enjoy it! Everything will not go exactly as you plan it and that's okay. Don't stress over the little stuff because the only person who will know that it wasn't perfect will be you.”

From the Bride: “Jordan approached me online first. After having talked for several weeks and gotten to know each other, he asked me on a date. We seemed to hit it off in conversation so well we knew that we should meet. So we went on our first date and we were inseparable from that point forward. After talking and both falling in love, we knew an engagement was vastly approaching. Despite knowing this, Jordan was still able to very much surprise me. Unknowingly to me, Jordan had driven to my hometown to ask my parents for my hand in marriage. In addition, he had SOUTHERNCELEBRATIONSMAG.COM
recruited my best friend to come and distract me by taking me to lunch. Meanwhile Jordan, pretending to be working, was planning to surprise me at our favorite restaurant with a very important question. When the waitress came out to deliver the menus, she instead laid a scrapbook down in from of me. I was unsure why she had placed this object in front of me without a word and slowly walked away. I looked around in a state of confusion. For unknown reasons, I decided to open the book realizing that it was a memento Jordan had made reminiscent of our time together. On the very first page, there was a picture of our beloved dog sitting with a
sign which read "please say yes" in very familiar handwriting. At that point, I knew what was happening, so I turned around curious to where Jordan was! Soon after, I see him walk around the corner holding our dog in matching shirts and bowties! They sure were a sight for sore eyes! I burst into tears when Jordan asked the question; it was the most perfect proposal and exactly what I had always dreamed of! 57

Favorite Moments, As Told By the Bride: “Our first dance: Our first dance of course will always be one of our all time favorite memories because we had listened to our song over and over again and still do to this day. We had spend a lot of times envisioning this moment. Cocky: Cocky was able to jumpstart the reception and take the edge off and get everyone out on the dance floor. Caricature Artist: We loved getting our picture drawn in cartoon caricatures. Not only was it unique, but it was a memento we will keep with us forever and our guests were able to take an extra something special home with them! Jordan crying once he saw me: I always thought Jordan would cry when I walked down the aisle, but actually seeing him in the moment and all the emotion that came across his face made me feel like the most beautiful and luckiest girl in this world. I want to instill that picture in my head for the rest of my life!

From the Bride: "We met in Kindergarten at 5 years old! He used to come over to my house and play with me and my brother as a child. I still have the LOVE letters he wrote me in fifth grade as evidence of his love for me starting at a young age!!! :) We went to two separate middle schools, but went to the same high school. We were both featured on our high school website's logo. We weren't great friends in high school as we were just into different sports and hung around different people. But after college, we both found ourselves living in the same town with our parents and one night he messaged me on Facebook asking me out. We went to Starbucks, then spent the rest of the early morning hours at Waffle House catching up, laughing, and having a great time. Something just clicked with the two of us and then we dated for three years after. We did break up after those three years for about two years, and dated other people. Then in the summer/fall of 2016, we rekindled and found each other again. Ever since, we are right where need to be: together. "

A Note From The Photographer: “Bigger is not always better! Ashley and Jonathan were married in an intimate backyard ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family and it is by far one of my most favorite weddings, ever. From the little duck's nose-diving in the lakes to the breathtaking fall trees backdrop, everything was so perfect. When you have a couple as gorgeous and in love as these two there isn’t much need for anything else. Can we just talk about how elegant Ashley looked in this fitted gown by Mikaella Bridal from J. Andrews Bridal and Formal? She was exquisite from head to toe and Jonathan wasn’t too shabby himself in his tux from Generation Tux. They are just as beautiful on the inside too and I’m so happy to now call them friends and can’t wait to capture more seasons of their lives.”

Sarah wanted an outdoor wedding with a romantic garden feel. As a child, she vacationed in the area and loved the idea of getting married here. As soon as Sarah & Jeff visited Brookgreen Gardens together, they absolutely loved the giant trees, oversized gates, unique statues, and wildlife ponds that filled this venue. For the reception, she wanted to forgo the traditional seated dinner and have a lounge set-up in the center of the tented reception space instead. They served hor d'oeuvres and a 4 tier buttercream cake adorned with fresh flowers. It was a beautiful sunny day for her wedding and everyone had a wonderful time as this scenic venue.

KYNDAL & JOSH
October 7, 2017 | Cherry Hollow Farm, Georgia Photographer: Brittany Leigh Photography | Hair & Makeup: Glow Beauty Studio | Caterer: Sweet Auburn BBQ | Floral: Sheridan’s Designs
From the Bride: “ My inspiration behind the wedding day was a country, rustic feel with a touch of simple elegance. We were both born and raised in the South, so we definitely wanted to incorporate our lifestyle into our big day while keeping it traditional. Our venue was so beautiful on it's own, we didn't want to overdo it with the décor! I wanted natural wood elements, simple lighting and soft touches of color with the flowers. We made some DIY lanterns to place around the ceremony and reception, I had friends and family help with signs, and a good friend of ours cut beautiful wooden stumps to line the aisle. We put a more personal feel on the décor with lots of pictures around the venue of our love story and journey as a family so far! The most special moment of our wedding day was definitely watching our 18 month old daughter walk down the aisle. She is our pride and joy and being able to include her in our wedding day made it so much more special to us!

The bride’s advice: “To all the couples, it is YOUR day, so go with what you like! Don't get wrapped up in what's expected or what everyone else does, make it your own. As far as marriage advice, never go a day without saying "I Love You”! “

SHAE & TAYLOR
December 9, 2017 | Alexandria, Louisiana Ceremony: St. Francis Xavier Cathedral | Reception: St. Rita Catholic Church | Wedding Planner: Debbie Ahrens of Ahrens Designs | Photographer: Unveiled Radiance | Florist: Accent Designs Rentals: Event Rentals of New Orleans | Cake: Lisa Dupont | Caterer: Panorama Foods | Band: Windstorm | Photo Booth: Mugs Photo Booth Service | Beauty: Verde Beauty Studio
From the Bride: “We are both from Louisiana. Taylor was the best man and I was a bridesmaid in our friends, Travis and Erika's wedding. Taylor was best friends with Travis from high school and Erika was one of my best friends from college. Erika kept trying to introduce us at her engagement party about a year and a half ago. I was too chicken because I had recently gotten out of a long relationship and Taylor lived in New Orleans, La. and I was in physician assistant school in Shreveport, La (about 5 hours apart), so I just did not think it was the best timing. As the engagement party was almost over, Travis mentioned to Taylor that Erika had planned to introduce us, so Taylor took it upon himself to come introduce himself, and I am so thankful he was much braver than me. I realized after talking to him for 30 minutes that it was definitely worth a try. And one thing I definitely learned is that God's plan for our lives is far greater than anything we have planned for ourselves. After finishing school, I was able to move closer to Taylor to begin working in the emergency room. It was so great to no longer be in a long distance relationship. However, Taylor was working for a consulting firm on a project that was coming to an end and he had to begin finding a new job. After being on the job hunt for a few months, he had a great job opportunity here in Birmingham. After praying about it and visiting the city, it seemed like the right decision, although I knew that meant a long distance relationship once again. So Taylor moved here 1 week ago, and this was my first weekend visiting. I had just driven in Friday from Louisiana before we came to Vulcan Park. And the rest is history. Haha. So I will get to be a part of this awesome city after we get married. Being an LSU tiger, I never guessed my next move would be Alabama ; ). But once again, God keeps proving to me he has awesome plans I could never have come up with myself.

A Note from the Bride: "The whole day was absolutely incredible. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to our wonderful vendors, friends, and family. My favorite part of the day was the time that Joel and I spent together before the ceremony. My nerves had been pretty high all morning, but seeing Joel at our first look immediately calmed me down. We got to spend a few quiet moments to really appreciate and soak in how special the day was. The whole day was a whirlwind, so these few minutes together allowed us to stop and enjoy each other and the journey we were about to begin."

A Note from the Groom: "One of my favorite parts about the wedding day was when we had our first look. The day started out with groomsmen and my father as my best man. We later arrived at the venue and I was told not to look toward the barn because Anne Kathryn was inside. Once we got settled, we began taking pictures that led to our first look. They had me walk into an area close to where the ceremony was to take place and had me face the mountains. It was somewhat warm, but sunny and beautiful. Next was one of the greatest sights I have seen. I got a tap on my shoulder and there she was. Standing behind me in her beautiful dress and all her glory, was my future wife. I stared at her and gave her the biggest kiss. I was not nervous and had no jitters. She is the one for me and I couldn't have been more excited and ready to marry my best friend!"
