Just a letter from me, There was a promise of a King. The prophets and teachers foretold of a King that would be above all others. One that would finally be worthy of worship, yes the son of God. As we celebrate this holiday let us reflect on the reason for this holiday. Yes we now know the story of that coming King and have heard and read about his coming since we were born. This year I hope that we will all take a little time to reflect back to who this baby was. Why? Who is this baby? Why is he so special? Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: As the mother looks down at her child she wonders, what is so special about this child? Why have all these people come to give gifts at his birth, and why are there so many people threatened about his birth? Who is this baby? She brings him up just as any loving mother would bring up her own child, loving him, educating him, providing for him, loving him as only a mother could. Then there came a time when the baby became a man and answered the question that only the mother really knew the answer to just found it so hard to believe, he answered the question of who this baby is... This holiday season look around you and notice the life we are living. There is so much to be thankful for but let us really see who this baby was and understand who this baby became. From the beginning he was the son of God and he still is. From the beginning he was on a mission and he still is. From the beginning he knew you and he still does. Do you know this baby? Does you life reflect the belief of this baby? Yes let us celebrate the holidays and rejoice on the

birth of this baby, and as we do let us rededicate our life to continuing the story of who this baby was and who this baby became. Let our message be the message that yes this baby was born and all hell tried to kill him. This baby grew into a man and his story is told through ones that walked with him and learned from him and even they asked who is this baby? This man who has changed the world, this one man is the reason we celebrate this season. This is not normally the articles I write, I love scripture and I love the messages in the scriptures, but this one time I want all of us to truly refocus on who this baby was and who this man really is. He, the baby Jesus is almost ready to return to this earth. The mansions are being finished and the Angels are preparing for a battle. Our robes have been pressed and they are ready for us to adorn. The crown has been polished and is ready to be placed. The seals are ready for the only one who is worthy to open them. This baby Jesus is not a baby anymore. He is now the king of kings and lord of lords. He is the risen savior who is waiting to hear his father say "go get my children", and he is the one who will split that eastern sky real soon. This season please tell the story of who this baby was, tell the story of who this baby became, and tell the story of why this baby will return one day real soon and will answer the promises of the past. This baby became the savior of all of us and he is coming back. Go tell the story, not as you did yesterday, not like our moms and dads and grand parents told us, not like the bible stories that everyone has heard through the ages, tell the story like its the last chance you have to tell the story, tell the story like it might be the last call, and last, lets us all go and tell everyone who will hear so no one will ask, who is this baby... This season please pray with me that those who are feeling loss will feel the comfort, and those who have need there needs will be met, and those who are hurting will be healed, and those who are lost will be found. I pray that all needs will be met and I pray that you will find joy when you reflect back on who this baby was...God bless you all and see you in the new year, Chris Jesus is our strength Chris Ormond:

Award winning Gospel group, the Browders, is known for releasing great songs, many of which go to the #1 spot on the radio charts. In addition to their radio success, the Browders were among the first in the Southern Gospel genre to have successful Concept Videos. Well, they've done it again. They have just released their new video Waiting For You To Get Home, a song from their current album Time Machine. Making this video even more special is the fact that they are dedicating it to the memory of all the Soldiers who have gone home and are waiting for us to get there. The video was shown at the National Quartet Convention this year and was met with a huge response. Matthew Browder commented, "We are soooo excited about the release of our new video, Waiting For You To Get Home. This song and video is a picture of hope. I was honored to write this song with a dear friend. He is no stranger to the music industry. Phil Cross is a visionary. It was his idea for The Browders to start doing concept videos. This is one video you don't want to miss! I would like to personally thank all the cast and everyone involved with Waiting For You To Get Home. Speaking of the song, one radio DJ commented to the Browders "As I sit here listening to your new song from the Time Machine album, I'm wondering could there be yet another #1 Song on this project? I'm thinking yes! 'Waiting For You To Get Home' is the type of song that does special things, like it could become a signature type song or even Song of the Year. This masterfully written song pulls at your heart. The dynamics, orchestration and simplicity of the message is something everyone can relate to." Mike Farley, Music Director WAGO/WGXM The video will be "live at 3:00PM today. You can view the video by using the following link: https://youtu.be/6A2Xf9HvTC0 . The Browder's newest radio single is also the song of the same title.

About The Browders From their beginning traveling together as a family in a Dodge Omni car, to a successful music ministry with national hits, The Browders of Hiltons, Virginia are one of the most exciting groups to step on stage in many years. This family group consists of Tommy Browder, his sons, Matthew and David, and Matthew’s wife, Sonya. They travel year round, keeping a full concert schedule as well as holding revivals across the country. One of their most captivating qualities is that The Browders play much of their music live with Tommy on acoustic lead, David on bass, Matthew on rhythm guitar and Sonya on piano. They also write most of their own music. In recent years, they have been steadily expanding and improving their ministry for the glory of God. They were voted "Breakthrough Artist of the Year” in the prestigious 2013 AGM Awards. They have enjoyed Singing News #1 song charting success with original songs like "Praise You In This Valley,” "Message Of The Cross," and "Land Of No Goodbyes." . With the release of their highly-anticipated, "The Message” recording came a milestone—their first #1 radio singles. They are currently performing songs from that recording as well as their hits and most-requested songs. Their current new release 'Time Machine' already has a number one song on the AGM Charts in "He's Alive”. Though things change throughout the years, their mission has remained the same—to bring hope to a lost and dying world and to encourage and challenge believers. They’re real and they’re anointed. We hope that in the near future you are able to attend or host a Browders’ concert to experience how God is working through this team.

On the heels of five consecutive number one songs, The Browders announce the release of their sixth radio single from the 2013 Daywind album, Time Machine. ‘Waiting For You To Get Home,’ written by Matthew Browder and Phil Cross, is a powerful and heartfelt song about a father’s love for his son. In addition to the recent radio release, The Browders plan to debut a brand new concept video for ‘Waiting For You To Get Home.’ Directed by Patrick Tohill, the video beautifully depicts the story told through the lyrics of the song, and is dedicated to those who have bravely and selflessly served our country. Earlier this year, the group held a contest in which Sam DeBord won the role of Little Johnny in the video. ‘Waiting For You To Get Home’ can be viewed on the Browders’ youTube channel or Facebook page beginning Tuesday afternoon. Time Machine is the debut Daywind Records project from The Browders and has garnered a unprecedented five consecutive number one singles: ‘Lift Up His Name,’ ‘He Is Alive,’ ‘Time Machine,’ ‘Listening For The Shout,’ and ‘He Took The Nails.’ Time Machine is available at Christian retail stores across the country and digitally at iTunes and other outlets. Many were reached for Christ through his ministry as a writer, actor, and volunteer with Teen Challenge Ministries in Hot Springs, Arkansas. "Scott's past was something he never shied away from. He was upfront about the many demons he battled on a daily basis. We find peace in knowing that not only is he finally free from the bondages of this life, but that he finally can see his Redeemer face to face." "We are thankful for the many prayers of friends, family, and industry professionals during this time of grief for our family," mentioned Deon Unthank, Scott's step -father. "Our heart is gladdened today knowing that he was greeted at the gates of Heaven by my wife and his mother, Susan. We know she is so very happy to have him home once and for all."

Mention any kind of cobbler to a Southerner and we are ready to dig in. Make it in an iron skillet with sweet potatoes, add some ice cream or whipped cream and you have a real Southern dish! I don’t think I would ever tire of sweet potatoes and I like them any way you “fix” them. Cobbler 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced or chopped (about 6 or 7 cups) 1 cup white granulated sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups water from cooked sweet potatoes 5 tablespoons butter 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Cover the sliced or chopped sweet potatoes with water and boil just long enough to soften. This takes about 10 minutes. They should be soft enough that you can stick a fork through them. Drain and save 1 1/2 cups of the water from boiling the sweet potatoes. In a bowl whisk together the sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour. Spray a 10 inch iron skillet with cooking spray or you could use a 9 x 13 baking dish. Dump in the cooked sweet potatoes, pour the 1 1/2 cups water over the potatoes. Mix in vanilla extract. Sprinkle on the sugar and spices. Cut up the 5 tablespoons butter in pieces on top. You can make your own crust from the recipe below of you could use a bought pie crust on top. Crust Recipe 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 5 tablespoons butter, softened About 10 tablespoons ice water Mix salt into flour. Cut butter into flour until resembles course crumbs. Add water until you can work with dough. Roll out on a floured surface and place over cobbler in skillet or baking dish. Bake cobbler in a preheated 400 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes until crust is brown on top. Can brush crust with melted butter or egg white for better browning. Makes about 8 servings. Enjoy!

How do two guys that love to build with their hands and love to sing, become overnight sensations? Well, first these two regular guys are Aaron Gray and Josh Arnett that are building contractors and singers that live in Central Indiana. They have sensational voices and are highly anointed when they deliver a song straight to the heart of the listener. They recorded an acapella version of “How Great Thou Art” put it on facebook and You Tube and the rest is history as they say. Now with a huge following “The Singing Contractors” are being asked by television stations to share their story and their music as well as magazines and sports arena. It has been non stop with fulfilling the interviews! They were honored to sing The National Anthem at the Dayton, Ohio Demo Hockey Game. On Thanksgiving they were honored to sing the National Anthem at the Drumstick Marathon. To raise money for the homeless men and women. And they found out there's going to be around 20,000 people there so little nerve-racking for them. Aaron Gray and Josh Arnett have known each other nearly all their lives. Since they share the same loves of working with their hands and singing, they decided about 3 years ago to join those two loves together especially singing and, as Gray told Today.com, “One day, we just said, ‘Hey, man, let’s sing some songs,’...I don’t know how we got the idea to put it on video, but we did.” With harmonies echoing through a recently drywalled, empty room, their music has had more than 11 million views. Check out The Singing Contractors on YouTube . https://

These two young men are sensational hits. They are in the studio now near Atlanta, Georgia completing their first CD which truly has been a dream for them and a popular demand. People everywhere are wanting their CDs. Most every song on the project has been requested. They were so pleased to have Jason Clark of the Nelons as their producer for this project.

I know that Aaron and Josh are so overwhelmed about all that has been happening with them with all the interviews, television appearances, singing the National Anthem for several events but one of the most exciting accomplishments is recording their new and first CD project. I asked them to tell me about this experience. Josh: I was so excited to finally get into the studio to record! The songs are some old favorites but timeless! We do have a couple of newer songs that we wanted to share, so being able to put them on the album was a Privilege. Working with Jason Clark was awesome! he's very creative and knows what he is looking for from arranging or just bringing the passion out of us. I'm so thankful that we was able to do the project in a timely fashion. I thank God for the opportunity to be able to get to sing about him and share it with everyone! Can't wait for the finished product!!! Aaron: We actually had a great time. It was a long trip to Georgia!! But God really helped us get the vocals done in two days what should have taken a week, we are hoping that it will be done around Christmas time or shortly after we are so excited that God has given us this opportunity to spread his message through song!!!

Welcome to the Porch, Grab a nice cold glass of sweet tea or a nice warm cup of coffee and let’s chat. First, let’s say a short prayer asking God to open our ears and our hearts. Father, we come to you now asking that you will use these words in such a way that hearts will be blessed and open to you. Father, all we do we do for you. Each of us humbled, by your love and mercies every day. Amen Ever seen that guy that is asked the BIG question on a game show? Notice how the host will prod, pull and coaxes for the answer? WHY? You might ask, Notice how the contestant stammers and looks around hoping to find someone with the answer FOR HIM. This is because he is UNCERTAIN of himself and the answer he may give. NO ONE should have to dig or drag it out of us that we are saved or that we are a disciple follower of Christ we should be excited to tell it and know how to tell it. When we choose to become a disciple of Christ it is basically like taking a blank sheet of paper and putting our signature at the bottom and just telling God to fill in the sheets We, as disciples for Jesus can look at ourselves as "servers" of Jesus. Imagine you are a server in a restaurant. You get assigned a table of 12-15 youths. They come in sir down and all order water with lemon and the endless chips and salsa. Knowing that your tip will be little, if any, you will probably not give them 100% of your efforts. What if we as disciples responded the same way? What if the missionary were this way? How much work as disciples would we get done? It is nature to be drawn to the things that gives us a physical / visible reward. As disciples we made never see a worldly reward. But that is not why we work for Jesus. Our reward is in Heaven. Or goal as a disciple is not to get people to church (although it is important) our goal is to get people to Jesus. Here is a couple of interesting facts that my Pastor mentioned in his sermon. 98% of Christian has NEVER SHARED their faith 90% of Christian responds to a crisis as if they are the resource. 60% lack assurance of their salvation How sad is this? That we are not doing are job. If Jesus treated us like employees we, most all of us, would have been fired in the first couple of weeks. We just don’t take

this job of discipline serious. And it is the one that really matters. It is a job of live, death, heaven, hell and the eternity of someone’s soul. The things of this world will pass away but the things of God will last forever. 1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. Jesus says in John not to work for the food that Sport, but to work for the food of life, and as disciples that's what we should do. Spend our time and our efforts on things of Jesus. For example, We should be making disciples for him and not spending our short valuable time that we have left on things that are not going to last. We can spend our time investing in souls this is what Jesus is the mission is to do. So this is our mission too. As disciples we are called to be a witness. What is a witness? One who speaks of what he knows. Not what he has heard. If you are ask you need to bed able to say what you know. Not say "well the preacher said" or " I read it in a book by" in a court that would be hear say. What do you know? That is the power of Jesus. We were pardoned as sinners so we could live in the promise of power. What is it that you do ONLY because of the power of Jesus in you? Remember Discipleship is a growing creation within us, and we never stop growing. ARE YOU READY? Just wanted to add, May each of you be blessed during the special season of the year, the time when we celebrate our Saviors birth. There is no gift that you can give that will top sharing Jesus and His wonderful grace and His salvation. It really isn’t about what is under the tree it is about what is in our hearts. From all of us here on the porch MERRY CHRISTMAS Till next time Thanks for joining me on the porch Brian --

What Defines You? As I look back on my life, I realize that the most trying times have turned into the biggest spiritual triumphs for me, but I believe I could still be living in defeat if I had made different choices. It would have been easy for me to take on a victim mentality and remain stuck. As I was reading the first chapter of Ruth today, I recognized that all-too-familiar victim dynamic in Naomi. She had been through a long set of tragic circumstances, and when she returned to her hometown she was so bitter people barely recognized her. When they called her Naomi (which means pleasantness), she corrected everyone and told them to call her Mara (which means bitterness). Naomi defined herself as a victim. When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her. So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem. When they arrived in Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them, and the women exclaimed, “Can this be Naomi?” “Don’t call me Naomi, ” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The LORD has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.” So Naomi returned from Moab accompanied by Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, arriving in Bethlehem as the barley harvest was beginning (Ruth 1:18-22). Isn’t it interesting that Naomi wanted to be defined by her circumstances? Rather than choosing to cling to her faith in God as Job did when he lost everything (Job. 13:15), she chose to make tragedy her identity. Ruth had also suffered loss, but she chose to love God and love others. She took action and did not profess bitterness as Naomi did. I love the way this passage ends. Naomi and Ruth arrived in Bethlehem just as the barley harvest was beginning. Hopeless and bitter Naomi was too consumed with her pain to see that God was at work, but Ruth took action. She walked in the little provision afforded her by the law, and arrived just in time to do it. As a result, God blessed her by sending her to the field of the very person who could change their circumstances—their kinsman redeemer. Without Ruth, Naomi could have very likely perished in her bitterness. At the end of this story the women of Bethlehem said to Naomi, “Praise the Lord, who has not left

you without a family redeemer. May his name become well known in Israel. He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. Indeed, your daughter-in-law, who loves you and is better to you than seven sons, had given birth to him. (Ru. 4:14-15) Boaz and Ruth’s child did become well known in Israel. Through his line would come both King David and our Messiah. Truly Ruth was better than seven sons, because she did not allow her circumstances to define her. She chose to follow God, and to love others. As a result, history was changed forever. We all have tragedy and unpleasant circumstances at some point, but we also all have choices. We can choose to be defined by our circumstances, or we can look for God’s provision in the midst of it. We can choose to follow God and love others, or we can choose to be bitter and self-centered. Our choices will determine the outcome. God will make a way for those who refuse to allow calamity to define their lives. Our Lord always has redemptive purposes in mind for those who love him and are called by him (Rom. 8:28). Our job is to simply choose to believe and follow him daily. Those who belong to him are his heirs (Gal. 3:29). That is who we are, and that is how we are defined. Circumstances do not define us, unless we choose to let them. All things are possible to those who believe (Mk. 9:23). Will you choose to believe?

About The Freemans History, experience and spiritual wisdom are three attributes that can be used to describe the foundation of the Freeman ministry. Deeply rooted with family, the Freemans experience spans 30+ years. From Darrell’s entrance at age 16 with his family’s group, the Pathways, to Chris’s award-winning teenage years with the Hinsons, the Freemans know the ins and outs of Southern Gospel music. No doubt, Chris’s unique sound is the reason she was the youngest female artist ever to receive the coveted "Queen of Gospel Music” award two years in a row (’76, ’77) as voted by the readers of Singing News Magazine. In 1980, the lives of Darrel and Chris Freeman became one when they married on August 2nd. After singing with the Pathways for three years Darrell and Chris headed for Nashville and began the Freemans. Joe Freeman, Darrell’s cousin, soon joined. them as the third part harmony, as well as their keyboard player. With this sound they have garnered tremendous growth and success. In 1997, Darrell and Chris’s daughter, Misty, began playing acoustic guitar with the group on stage. Then in 1998, she began singing with them when they recorded Standing Out. Also on stage is Caylon Freeman, Darrell and Chris’s youngest child. He decided to join his family on the road full-time in 2002. He is now playing the drums and singing some with the group. Now in their 20th year, the Freemans, still do approximately 250 dates a year, and continue to experience tremendous success.

Have We Forgotten the True Meaning of Christmas It's that time of the year again when we pull out all the Christmas decorations. The tree goes up and the lights go on. We get up before dawn or we camp outside the store to get the best deals of a lifetime. We even fight over the last item on the shelf. Then we stand in line for hours just to pay for our treasures. Stores start putting out Christmas at Halloween in order to get that dollar. The TV networks start showing Christmas movies around that time in order to put us in the “Christmas Spirit. I remember when Christmas wasn't all about the shopping or standing in long lines the day after Thanksgiving or Black Friday. I remember the smells of Christmas coming from my mom's and my grandmother's kitchens. The cakes baked in dish pans and wrapped in sheets and placed in my grandmother's china cabinet. All the time we spent together baking and cooking getting ready for that big Christmas dinner when the whole family would gather around the table for dinner. Christmas was a time spent with loved ones and friends. It was a time when the Christmas Spirit shone the brightest. A time when we celebrated the true meaning of Christmas, But somewhere along the way we've lost that Christmas Spirit. The REAL Christmas Spirit. We've forgotten the real meaning of Christmas. The spirit of love and giving. We've lost the meaning of Christmas beneath the glitz, and we've forget those who don't have families to celebrate with. We tend to think Christmas as the gifts under the tree, the lights in the window, the cards in the mail, Christmas trees and stockings hung waiting for Santa to come. But is that what Christmas is really all about? For many people it's a time of sorrow because they don't have the extra money to buy presents for their children. Many are sadden at Christmas because they remember their loved ones who will no longer be there to celebrate another Christmas. It's a time of hunger for many children. For many children Christmas isn't just a lack of presents under the tree, it means two more weeks of hunger before they get back to school for breakfast and lunches. We become so caught up in the madness of Christmas that we tend to forget just what Christmas is all about and those who are less fortunate than we are.

Today Christmas is a holiday rather than a religious celebration. Children aren't being brought up knowing the true meaning of Christmas. Some children seem to think Christmas is all about Santa Claus and the gifts they'll receive. We need to be reminded just how blessed we are not only at this time of the year but all year through. Especially when there are some who will wake up on Christmas morning and not find that gift they wanted or finding no gift at all. We need to remember that the Spirit of Christmas is about the Gift of Giving. We must be willing to give of our self, our time, our love and give of our worldly possessions. Don't think of the gifts you give as a duty but as a symbol of love for those to whom you give that gift. No gift can truly reflect the love we feel for those who are dear to us but, we can show them they matter by spending time with them. We live in such a fast pace world that we sometimes forget to take time and relax. We forget that spending time with our loved ones is more important than any gift wrapped in a box and tied with a bow. We need to reach down within ourselves to find the Spirit of Christmas. We need to take time to not embrace the spirit of Christmas but also embrace the true meaning of Christmas. So just what is the true meaning of Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ. The Christ Child who is a symbol of love, light, hope and peace. That makes this such a joyful season for true believers. Christmas should be a season of great joy. It's a time when God showed His great love for us. It's a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of Christ. God sent His Son, Jesus, to be born into this world. His birth bought great joy to the world. The shepherds, wise men and even the angels all were excited about this great event. You see this was no ordinary baby. A hundreds of years before His birth prophets told of His coming. Isaiah 9:6 tells us “for unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given. And the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God. Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. The Shepherds understood the meaning of Christmas. Luke 2:8-12 says the angels came to the shepherds with the great news of Jesus' birth. The shepherds were the first ones to hear about the birth of Jesus because they were the keepers of the sacrificial lambs. This is important to know because Jesus was the Lamb of God. The Angels also understood the meaning of Christmas. They angels were so overjoyed they burst into song and the heavens opened up to reveal their joy. Luke 2:1314 The meaning of Christmas was told through the Angels as they praised God. They were giving God the glory because the Lamb of God had been born. They rejoiced because of Jesus' birth everlasting life and peace would be the result. Everlasting life and peace to those who yield their lives to Christ. When the Angels left, the shepherds went to Bethlehem to see what had happened. When the shepherds left from that stable where Jesus lay they were changed and excited. They wanted everyone to know about this Lamb of God. We can understand the real meaning of Christmas in just one story. The Christmas Story told in the book of Luke. Christmas is about the birth of the Lamb of God.

He came to be the once and for all sacrifice. Christmas is the beginning of a story which is completed at Easter. The Angels proclaimed it and the shepherds understood the message. Do you understand the true Spirit and meaning of Christmas? Have you lost the true meaning of Christmas? Do parties, gifts, shopping and the decorations mean more to you than the true meaning of Christmas? Just as God gave His only Son to us as His greatest gift, we can share that gift with others. Take a moment and think about someone you know who is less fortunate than you are this Christmas. What can you do to share with them and make their Christmas brighter. Think about that child who won't even see a gift or food on their table. Think about those who are away from their families defending our country. Think about those who tonight who lay down in a cold alley way to sleep. Think about that person who will spend Christmas alone because they have no one to care. Those who are missing loved ones. Think back to the time when Christmas was a time spent with family. A time when it was more important to give to others. Remember all the joy that filled your home and life with the true meaning of Christmas. One other thing I remember is there were six of us children and we may not have always gotten everything we wanted for Christmas but we had wonderful Christmas'. Why? Because our parents taught us what the true meaning of Christmas was all about. Something that none of us have forgotten over years. So this Christmas embrace the spirit of Christmas and find the true meaning of the season to bring more joy and happiness into your life and the lives of others. May you find joy and God's blessings at Christmas. And may the true meaning of Christmas be revealed to you and your family. Merry Christmas from my house to yours Debbie Floyd The True Meaning Of Christmas Jesus Christ was born this day So many years before He came a servant to the lost, Though he was Lord of Lords We celebrate this joyous time, Reflecting on His birth Not born in a mansion, but a stable As if He had no worth He came so He could identify With the human heart of man And gave His life as a sacrifice, Offering a better plan A plan that reconciles us back To our loving Father God, Bringing hope and redemption from Sins ruling, iron rod For this is the only reason that we Should celebrate this day,

To become focused on anything else, Would take the meaning away So let's arise with joy in our hearts And share it with everyone The meaning of Christmas will always be The birth of Jesus – God's son Š By M.S.Lowndes

About Zach and Rodney Zach Mashburn and Rodney Hedrick make up the Christian Country duo Zach and Rodney recently signed to Nashville’s Red Hen Label. Zach and Rodney not only share their music career, but also share family as brothers-in-law. The duo makes their home in Trinity, North Carolina. Producer Rick Schweinsberg states, "When I heard Zach and Rodney for the first time, I heard modern country and traditional country combined in a unique blend and style all their own.” In the late 1990’s, while pursuing a career in country music and getting into trouble with the law, Rodney Hedrick was sentenced to perform his community service at a church, with one condition. He would have to attend the Sunday School class taught by the janitor and choir director of the church at least one time. It didn’t end there. Rodney kept going. That one Sunday School class would change his life forever. While attending, he surrendered his heart and talents to the Lord, taught the same class he attended, accepted the call to preach, and married the janitor's daughter, who just happened to have a 12-year-old guitar-playing brother named Zach Mashburn. So began the duo Zach and Rodney. Now they want to tell others that God definitely has a plan for your life, too! (Jeremiah 29:11)

Hearts come home for Christmas Walking in snow, listening and feeling the depth of its reluctant quavering is a crunchy reminder ole jack Frost is not going away soon. The purity of the sights before me were breathtaking as usual. I can see my cloudy breath manifested into the cold, crispy air. I can hear the distant wind gently swaying the frosted evergreens by the power of its bray. The earth is alive, I consider. And the tempest above me is a friendly persuasion she is always watching over her domain. The driven snow was untouched, melodious, icicles nesting peacefully on white covered branches of trees that supported the cascading descent only one night before. Chimney fires smoking in the neighborhoods, with that faint scent of coal redolence you rarely smell anymore, unless passing through some hick town sequestered in the foothills of Appalachia. I can still smell the fragrance whistling breeze that penetrated my nostrils some forty plus years ago. It has the scent of new. It has the scent of old. Snotty noses and sleigh riding, town's discretely blocking off certain hilly streets to play. The child feels empowered by the deed as if they were prince and princess alike. There were neither white nor black children in my neighborhood. We were just children at play. Nobody was special. We hadn’t come to understand the providence of wealth, race, religion, gender, were dividing demographics of life. The power of prejudices that darken the minds of many had not yet been discovered. Life is sometimes a cruel taskmaster when we allow it to be. That time would sadly come in an adult world which apparently had forgotten the art of just being a child. Embellishing our schoolroom windows with snowmen and crafted art, dressed warmly, eating the paste of the projects, as we wistfully dreamed of faraway places and adventures. We were emboldened by the power of a child's elusive imagination. There never was abbreviation of what we could do in our lifetime or who we could become. It is only in the world of the adults we would be reminded of our places in the assembly. The mind and imagination of the child were timeless and enlightened. We were never sequestered in thought or privilege.

Time ticked slowly for us in days-of-youth; one fun winter's day was equal to a week full of adulthood—so we thought. The things we could accomplish outside before the streetlights aglow. In one blink of an eye, they glimmered above us, popping and arresting the darkness they cloaked with hopeful illumination. They were but a foretaste to a mother’s subpoena beckoning us home at night. It was akin to the great gathering of Gabriel’s trumpet in our neighborhood. We all knew what it meant. We were taken care of in our days of youth. Our daily necessities were supplied. They were a gift we rarely knew about the consequence and exchange delivered for them by our parents love for us. Parents see the nastier ingredients of living, and kept us safe from the horrors awaiting as we grew older. Is it really any wonder why we look back so reverently and remember with glowing appreciations the simpler times of childhood? I think not. We took time to pause, slowed down the moment, appreciated, the discoveries which were apparent to only the eyes of a child. Sometimes it is the child that sees the simplest truths before them. Earliest memories of Christmas past, winters past, have always been one of frolic in our book of remembrance. And though some have wandered away from this little blacken dot on a state road map; called Zanesville, Ohio; hearts always come home for Christmas. I am now alone in my kitchen as the whistle on my tea kettle begins to blow. I pour myself a cup of brew and stare out the window as the snowflakes begin to gingerly fall to the ground. They are descending in a fat and fluffy froth across the plain brown fields. The white, peaceful blanket seems to calm the earth. They have made a covenant together. God knows she could use the rest. I take another sip of my hot simmering tea. It makes me feel warm inside. My soul is at ease. God knows I could use the rest as well. The television set is playing in the background. Christmastime is near, bringing lots of cheer. My face is so close to the window pane that a slight fog has begun to appear on the glass before me. The moment is surreal. The memories of past now begin to fade. I am back into the present. A new generation of children is summoning me to come and watch the television again. Somehow, I do not want to walk away. The movie, “It’s a wonderful life,” is playing on the set. I can hear little Zuzu telling her daddy that every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings. ‘The richest man in town,” has remembered the most important things in life are his family and friends. ~LG

4 Times that God Needs You to be Angry Focusing the Fire in Your Soul The only people who are never angry are dead people – either dead literally, or dead-on-the-inside kind of dead. I’m going to go so far as to say that if you’re never angry, you’re mostly useless – to the people who really need you, and even to God. God needs you to be angry! Of course that doesn’t mean we should live in a constant state of being “worked up” over every little thing. That’s dangerous to your own mental, physical, and spiritual health. And it doesn’t mean being the kind of volatile human being that everyone fears and would rather run away from. That’s dangerous to your own wellbeing and damages the kingdom of God. But you need some fire in your soul if you ever want to accomplish what God has put you on this Earth to do. Just days ago I was driving in heavy traffic, and felt my throat tighten and my blood pressure rise. I was facing some significant stress at that time that I had no control over, and piles of conflicting thoughts chased each other through my mind. I was tired emotionally and physically. And if one more person tried to cut me off in traffic . . . ?!! Suddenly I stopped. I was upset over the unfairness of my current circumstances, and perhaps in some ways even at God for allowing this terrible traffic on top of everything else. Didn’t He know I was tired and stressed? But I knew this kind of anger was NOT the kind God needs us to have. There was something bigger at stake. I needed to change my focus, and concentrate on taking the next right step in the direction God had laid out for me to go. It was fine for me to be angry – but not at the driver in the car in front of me who was undoubtedly as stressed as I was. The image of Jesus as passive, loving, and gentle is real, but it’s only one limited part of who He was and is. Jesus never took offense when someone criticized Him, violated His personal rights, or made things difficult for Him. But His very proactive stand against evil – especially religious legalism – was

immovable, so much so that it got Him killed. And that’s a clue to what God needs us to be angry about. Where God Needs Your Anger God loves you and me just the way we are. He loves the whole world, all 7 billion of us, in all our mindless misery and thorough brokenness. But He loves each one of us too much to let us remain in that condition. And without some righteous anger nobody – not you, not me, not the neighbor who doesn’t know Jesus – is going to be any different, or know or experience the life God has for them. Perhaps it’s different where you are, but I see a lot of the church promoting Christianity as a feel-good country club when that’s nothing like the life into which Jesus called His followers to "Follow Me!" Consider these things against which God needs you, indeed requires you, to be fiercely and persistently angry: Your own sin and broken character. Are your thoughts, your behaviors, your relationships, your connection with God truly the way you know God wants them to be? Forgiveness is wonderful, but that’s only the beginning. God requires our transformation. As Hebrews says, “In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” (Hebrews 12:4) No, we cannot become good on our own. But God won’t change us without our involvement. He needs you to care, to do what it takes, to strive not to do some legalistic list of “good deeds,” but to receive the new heart He has promised. (Hebrews 8:10) Injustice against those who are powerless. While Jesus Himself never campaigned against social injustice, He made clear that His followers were to care for “the fatherless and the widows.” (Psalm 68:5, James 1:27) In our world that would mean children without an intact home, people who are hungry or homeless, addicts and the mentally ill, victims of violence or human trafficking, prisoners, refugees, etc. Are all these people worthy? NO! But God requires us to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. Institutionalized evil. Exploitation, greed, failures of integrity, campaigns against marriage and the family, attacks against Christianity – these and many more evils will continue to thrive and expand until and unless enough of God’s people stand up and say NO. We must remember that we are not attacking people per se, but are standing against the movements that seek to obliterate God’s hand in our society and our world. Legalistic or cross-less religion. Jesus reserved His harshest criticism for religious leaders who laid human rules and regulations on people without leading them to the heart change God requires. (Micah 6:8, Matthew 23:4, Matthew 23:23) Focusing on outward behavior can sometimes seem so much easier than to acknowledge the decaying nature of our heart and that of others, and point ourselves and them to Jesus and the transformation His cross makes possible. So next time you (or I) feel your throat tighten and your blood pressure rise, check to see what it is you’re angry about. When you sense the fire in your soul that God has planted there, fan the flame. Harness that internal energy to move forward and take the next step in accomplishing what God has put you here to do.
