Nashville, TN (May 28, 2015) – The Gospel Music Association recently honored Candy Christmas, founder of The Bridge Ministry, during the 2nd Annual GMA Honors during a lavish celebration held at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena. The event celebrated those individuals and organizations that impact culture through their individual efforts. Accolades from a diverse group including Governor Mike Huckabee, Reba McEntire and Journey’s Jonathan Cain honored Candy Christmas' Bridge Ministry. The most poignant acknowledgment, however, came from formally homeless, Jeff Stultz, who said his life was changed when he met Candy under the Jefferson Street Bridge. Began in November 2004, "The Bridge" was formed by Candy Christmas out of a desire to help feed and clothe the homeless of Nashville. Candy began taking huge pots of jambalaya down to the homeless living under the Jefferson Street bridge in downtown Nashville. After seeing that the need was far greater than just one hot meal a week, Candy began to collect clothing and non-perishable food items to pass out to her friends. She stored it all in her garage and friends volunteered to come over and fill grocery bags with food. The more people that began finding out about this ministry and caught the vision, the faster the ministry grew. The Bridge is housed in a 20,000 square foot warehouse in Nashville, TN, that not only stores the food for the Tuesday evening services, but also acts as a local food bank for other area ministries. The Bridge Ministry also aids school children
on assisted lunch programs by filling their backpacks with food on Friday afternoons so that they have food to eat over the weekend. There are 11,000 homeless in Nashville and Middle TN and of that number 4,000 are children. The 2nd Annual GMA Honors were held on May 5, 2015 and is set to air on TBN's JUCE TV on Friday, June 5th at 7pm PST / 10pm EST and Saturday, June 6th at 12pm PST / 3pm EST. The third-annual GMA Honors ceremony date has also been announced for May 10, 2016. Along with Candy Christmas , the 2nd Annual GMA Honors recipients included the inimitable Bishop Paul S. Morton, Founding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International, Passion founded by Louie and Shelley Giglio and Porter’s Call founded by Al Andrews. In conjunction with the Honors, the GMA inducted BeBe and CeCe Winans, Mark Lowry, Roland Lundy and Twila Paris into the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame. GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Candy Christmas is a wonderful person and I am so delighted that she is being honored for the Gospel Music Association because nobody is more perfectly pitched to received this honor. For someone who has dedicated so much of her time, her life, and has created a real ministry to people that so many other have simply forgotten about. Candy, God bless you and you make Christmas real every day for a lot of needy people. God bless you! - Gov. Mike Huckabee REBA MCENTIRE: Hey Candy, it’s Reba McEntire. Congratulations on this wonderful award you are receiving tonight. I’m so very happy for you. You know we’re all so very proud you are from Nashville. The wonderful things you have done for the homeless and children, now the world knows what you’re doing and how special you are. I love you very much, have a great night. - Reba McEntire JONATHAN CAIN: Congratulations Candy Christmas, on your GMA Honors. Having been there under the bridge, performing a couple years ago, I got a first hand look at what you do and I admire your stewardship, your sense of community, and your recognition for God’s true intention. I wish you the best in the future and I know you’re going to keep rocking there; and don’t stop believing! - Jonathan Cain

CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE I put a coke in the freezer to get it nice and cold That's usually my drink of choice it tastes like liquid gold I got busy doing something and forgot I put it there And when I took the top off my coke went everywhere It spilled on the counter and on into the sink By the time it settled down I'd lost half of my drink Then the Lord said to me there's a lesson in this mess My children seem to loose it when they're going through a test Contents under pressure makes them feel they're going to blow Then I remind them gently I am with them and I know Their level of frustration and they're asking Lord why me My answer to them always is one day you'll clearly see Until that time just trust me and know without a doubt I know exactly where you are and I will lead you out @ Joye Atkinson
A Reflection of My Father By Dot A (Herdman) Wiggins, owner of Uniquely Organized and Utilized
Growing up my dad, James A Herdman, Sr. was an inspiration to me and I am very lucky to say he remains and inspiration. He was in the military throughout my years at home. Whenever needed or just an opportunity came up he would take side jobs to earn extra money or help someone out. He retired the year before I married and became a reservist worker in support services to the military, retired from there and began working civilian jobs with colleagues and friends of his. I witnessed him working hard, setting goals, training and studying and receiving promotions. My father was and is still very respected and consulted on tools, boilers and setting up tool room procedures. He taught himself computers and excelled at them. He rocked WordStar and quickly adapted to Microsoft and loves excel and making labels. He has notebooks and files of things. He networks and knows people in all lines of work, who dabble in thing and people who know others and he is called upon to use them all the time. My Dad loves books and reads and learns things on his own, even though he struggled in school and did not graduate he never let that stop him. He worked through any challenge and would call others for help. He is a leader in whatever he is involved in. He is a great communicator when necessary but is often a listener and just observes things and lets everyone else talk and then he offers his suggestions. I always admired that about him. He helps people regardless of how they treat him and never seems to care what people say about him, “He knows the truth and he does what he feels will let him sleep good at night. People like talking with my dad, as do I
when a problem or challenge is overwhelming. He listens and offers suggestions with compassion and honesty. Even when he is rough, disciplining or shoots down your ideas he does it in a way that you still feel respected and he gives you time to reevaluate your idea or situation and come back for more discussion and does not try to manage it for you. I feel I have a lot of my dad’s personality and have developed similar skills and passions. From early childhood I loved to play office and teacher, was a social butterfly and loved to talk on the phone. I arranged rooms and files. In elementary school I worked in the library and helped the teachers with paperwork and grading papers. In high school I took business classes and loved computers. I loved excel and spreadsheet work. I had 2 big rolodexes and loved learning about people and what they did, built databases and people would come to me when they were looking for things. I worked in doctor’s offices while I went to high school and after graduating. I eventually managed a doctor’s office and my data bases and dad were very useful. He was able to do many of the handwork tasks I needed or would know someone who did that kind of work. As I started my own business much of my dad’s personality has served me well. The eagerness and willingness to learn and find resources helps me immensely in my business and helps those I serve. The ability to plan and organize anything and enlist others to help with projects is a main part of my philosophy and business and was something I learned from my dad as he mentored me often through my life. Even in retirement my dad utilizes his skills and computer. He still makes labels and spreadsheets. Contacts people and keeps up with who is doing what and can always refer you to someone for any product or service. Even with health crisis and other issues arising of the years my dad is still actively connecting with people he worked with and stays up on tool trends and events related to things that interest him. I was excited to use my skills and teach my dad Facebook and enjoy sharing posts and messaging with him. It helps close the gaps of living out of state and not being able to talk with him as much as I would like. I love watching my son exhibit some of my traits that were passed down to me from my father and I hope he passes them onto his children. One of my favorite songs is Amy Grant’s, “Father’s Eyes” and part of those lyrics say, and when people look inside my life, I want to hear them say, She has her father’s eyes, Her father’s eyes, Eyes that find the good in things when good was not around. Eyes that find the source of help when help just can’t be found. Eyes full of compassion, Seein’ every pain, Knowin’ what you’re going thru and feelin’ it the same.” I hope that will be your take away from this tribute and “I am my father’s daughter, earthly and heavenly Dot A. I really enjoy taking photographs of waterfalls and cascade falls in streams and brooks. On this particular day the sun was hitting the water just right and made for a perfect photograph. Watching waterfalls and running water makes me often think of the bible verse Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

You’ve prayed, over and over again. Perhaps you’ve asked other people to pray for you also. You were hungry to hear from God, and you did. Your heart leaped when God’s voice spoke to your soul, telling you something you desperately needed to hear. Everything was going to be alright. But things didn’t go as you had hoped. The thing you believed you heard from God didn’t come to pass. The cancer returned. The job didn’t come through. The marriage you thought was God’s idea turned into an unfaithful nightmare. The open ministry door turned out to be a blind alley. And you’re left wondering why. What do you do when what God said doesn’t happen? When I was thirteen years old I prayed hard for something very specific. I can remember the time and the place when I believed I heard God tell me that the thing I was praying for would happen. It didn’t. And it wasn’t something I would simply have to wait for. Something happened that made what I thought God told me forever impossible. Had God let me down? Had He spoken, and then not been able to follow through? How could I have heard Him so wrong? Yes, my questions then reflected my adolescence both physically and spiritually. But there have also been other times when I was certain I had heard God’s voice but things didn’t turn out the way I thought they would. Perhaps you too have heard God’s voice, or at least you thought you did, but the way things happened made you wonder if you heard Him wrong. Perhaps you’re tempted to wonder whether we as human beings can really hear His voice at all. What’s wrong when what we hear Him say doesn’t come to pass? I come from the position that God is good, He speaks to us, we can hear Him, and He is well able to do what He says He will do. I believe that by faith. So how can one reconcile that belief with what we see happen in our every-day lives?
Here are a few things I’ve learned. Perhaps they will help you also: Our desires and God’s word can get confused in our minds. It’s possible for me to want something so badly that I hear what I think is God’s voice telling me what I want to hear. That’s not God’s fault. And sometimes my desires only allow me to hear part of what God is trying to say. God has given every human being free will. That includes you, and everyone else you care about also. Sometimes God’s will is dependent on us human beings responding appropriately, and we can’t control anyone else. If someone else makes a choice against God’s will, He won’t always stop that from happening. Spiritual maturity improves our ability to discern what God is really saying. Time in God’s word, going through difficult challenges with him, and learning His ways helps me hear Him better. It’s like being able to instantly recognize my husband’s voice on the phone. I’m not an adolescent physically or spiritually anymore. In this life, however, it’s still possible for any of us to not hear God correctly. Here’s what to do in the meantime: 1. Own your own thoughts, feelings, and requests. It’s always OK to ask God for any-
thing. Be specific. Tell God how much you want it, and how you feel about it. Be real with Him. 2. Then put your own feelings aside. We can’t do this perfectly. But I’ve learned to pray, “God, as much as possible I put what I want aside. I really want to hear from You, not my own feelings.” · Be willing to listen. Keep your spirit open to whenever and however He will speak to you. It may be His still small voice in your heart. It may be Scripture, circumstances, or another person who speaks. (Psalm 46:10) Look for confirmation. If God says something to your heart, He will back it up with confirming messages elsewhere. That doesn’t mean you won’t have opposition, but it does mean God won’t keep changing His mind. ·
It’s OK to be wrong. If you don’t hear God correctly, don’t get too worked up about it. He knows how to make His voice heard in your heart. That’s His problem. If you get it wrong He’s well able to find you, correct you, and take you where you need to go if you keep listening. ·
Keep learning about Him. The better you know Him, the better you’ll recognize when something is His voice, versus the enemy or your own thoughts. You get to know His ways, and how He deals with you. ·
He’s there for you. He’s God, and you’re not. He’s got this. We know the end of the story, and He’s well able to take you there. He will finish what He started in and for you. (Philippians 1:6)

About Zach and Rodney Zach Mashburn and Rodney Hedrick make up the Christian Country duo Zach and Rodney recently signed to Nashville’s Red Hen Label. Zach and Rodney not only share their music career, but also share family as brothers-in-law. The duo makes their home in Trinity, North Carolina. Producer Rick Schweinsberg states, "When I heard Zach and Rodney for the first time, I heard modern country and traditional country combined in a unique blend and style all their own.” In the late 1990’s, while pursuing a career in country music and getting into trouble with the law, Rodney Hedrick was sentenced to perform his community service at a church, with one condition. He would have to attend the Sunday School class taught by the janitor and choir director of the church at least one time. It didn’t end there. Rodney kept going. That one Sunday School class would change his life forever. While attending, he surrendered his heart and talents to the Lord, taught the same class he attended, accepted the call to preach, and married the janitor's daughter, who just happened to have a 12-year-old guitar-playing brother named Zach Mashburn. So began the duo Zach and Rodney. Now they want to tell others that God definitely has a plan for your life, too! (Jeremiah 29:11) About Michael Lee Michael Lee Stancil comes from a very musical family. At the age of 14, he started singing in church. Michael seemed to have a comfortable stage presence and a natural ability to perform. While in high school he started playing night clubs, even though he wasn't old enough to get in, he was still being pursued with offers of performing in these places. At this time he started songwriting. In 2004, he met another singer/songwriter and formed the country music duo Buck and Duke. In spite of the attention and the support of the industry, Michael started feeling a void in his life. Despite having a career on the rise and a supporting family, something was still missing. He started attending church with his wife and children when he wasn't on the road. This started out on Sunday mornings and then slowly he started to attend Sunday and Wednesday night services also. God was speaking to Michael and he didn’t want to listen. He was running as far away as possible despite what God was saying. Michael knew that God had other plans for him but he continued to travel and play in the night clubs with a still small voice inside telling him that is not where he belonged anymore. Everyone around him started to notice this change making it harder and harder to perform in the clubs and portray the image he knew he couldn't be anymore. He knew God had changed the person he had worked so hard to become. Michael knew he needed to talk with Duke about God leading him from this lifestyle. Little did he know God spoke to Duke first. Duke told Michael that he supported him 100% in the choices he had to make. So leaving country music he committed himself solely to God and the calling Jesus Christ had put on his life. He started speaking and singing at churches. Once again, singing in the place it all started for him.
Welcome to the Porch, Grab a nice cold glass of sweet tea or a nice warm cup of coffee and let’s chat. First, let’s say a short prayer asking God to open our ears and our hearts. Father, we come to you now asking that you will use these words in such a way that hearts will be blessed and open to you. Father, all we do we do for you. Each of us humbled, by your love and mercies every day. Amen This month is Father’s Day. So, I thought I would use that as my topic. Those who have their father with them are blessed. My dad made his trip to glory several years ago. His wasn’t a perfect dad but he did the best that he knew with the knowledge he had. He was a good Christian man and he always tried to keep me going in the right direction. I made that very difficult at times (for mom too). My dad may be gone but the things he has shown me, taught me, are still with me and make me the man /father I am today. I have made many mistakes myself as a father. But I pray that in the end my children will see two things, my love for my heavenly Father and my love for them. And in these two things I pray that it will help them to show their children the same. My main goal as a father is to see my children come to know Jesus as their personal Savior. . It is difficult for a child to begin to understand the heart of the heavenly Father without the example of their earthy father. So much is riding on your ability to reflect the Father’s love. A godly father delights in, loves, corrects, instructs, disciplines, provides for, leads and contributes a legacy to his children. It is for any one or all of these attributes that we honor our courageous fathers. Here are some of the father’s jobs and or obligations
A father is a leader: Proverbs 20:7: “The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are
blessed after him.” What is integrity? The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. By this a father will show his children how to be strong and confident in God. As fathers we cannot be double minded (James 1:8) and still be a good example to our children. By showing a single minded (Matthew 6:24) life we teach the concept of loyalty and obedience. Is this what we expect from our children? How can they know if we don’t lead them (teach) by example. A father is a teacher
Proverbs 4:1-2: “Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding; for I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.” Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Here we are instructed to teach our children the ways of our heavenly Father. I know that many of us were taught this and still ran out into the world in spite of our dad’s best efforts. But I know my dad never gave up on this scripture. I think this is why God gave is the story of the prodigal son. I wondered for many years before I listened to that voice inside of me and returned to the place in my life where I knew I was supposed to be. My dad was there just as God our heavenly Father is there for you too. Being a strong supporter of your child’s formal and informal learning takes a lot of energy and time, but it comes with great reward.
A father is to discipline and correct
Proverbs 3:11-12: “My son,do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.” Unfortunately, there must be discipline; we must do this to show our children that there is a price to pay for being disobedient. This is a way of showing our children that we care about them and their actions. Discipline is never fun to administer or receive, but when done patiently, lovingly and consistently it yields good fruit (Hebrews 12:11). If you love your child, you will discipline your child (Proverbs 13:34); I am sure you have heard the old saying spare the rod spoil the child. There is an immense amount of truth in this. We must ALWAYS show love after discipline.
A father is a protector
Proverbs 14:26: “In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge.” Just as we can find refuge in God our Father. Our children should also be able to find a place of comfort in us.
A father is a provider
Matthew 7:9-11: “Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
A father shows loves
Psalm 103:13: “As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.” John 3:16: “ For God so loved the world that he gave His only son that whosoever believed in Him shall have everlasting life” This is the ultimate show of love from God our heavenly Father. God isn’t asking us to give up our children, just to raise them in the ways of Christ and return His love by using His word to instruct our children. By showing love to our girls they are more like to have good relationships in their lives. They will look for strong men, godly men. Boys will see the proper way to treat the girls and this will give them a strong relationship too. A father leaves a legacy Proverbs 17:6: “Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father.” 3 John 1:4: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Decisions made today will affect the future of your child, even if they are made shortsightedly. They will bring you pain or bring you glory. The purpose of parenting is to leave a biblical legacy. So, dad’s, let’s stand strong and do all that we can to be a good example for our children. Because, YOU as a father have a distinct and important role in the lives and futures of your little ones. Thanks for joining me here on the porch Brian
