They have entertained and ministered to millions through their recordings, TV appearances and live shows — which is why Three Bridges has quickly become one of the most prominent Gospel groups in Christian music today. For a testimony ‌. Have you ever asked, why did this happen to me? There seems to always be heart ache and struggle in all of our lives and battles we fight that in most cases leaves scars that remain for the rest of our lives. These scars, some are hidden and some are visible not only to us but to others and we are left with the question, why did this happen to me? There is so much that happens to us and we don't understand the why's and the purposes, so I started where I was always told the answer's are always found. Luke 5:12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. What did this man do to have leprosy? How could anything good come from this? Luke 5:18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. What did this man do to have palsy? How could anything good come from this? Matt 12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. What did this man do to be blind, possessed with a devil and be dumb? How could anything good come from this? Just a few instances where people were going through things in their lives and seem to not know why or the reason for their afflictions, even the Disciple's often were confused as to why people suffer John 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind. Now we continue to ask why Bad things even happen to us and often question God why the struggles and the battles that we fight, when he knows that the scares will be there for all to see. Envision for a moment if you will, a wife sitting in her

living room all alone this morning, bruised and battered from the abuse from her husband she received last night. Envision a man who has gone to work today who just abused his wife last night and the memories of his child hood, the scares deep inside him from where he has just become his father. The child who witnessed the abuse and now sits and wonders if his mom will be ok, and if the father will next choose him. Wondering what will happen to their family and how could this be love, yes the love that he hears about when they go to church. Now envision a man or a woman who has lost his or her job, and there is no way all the bills can be paid on his spouse salary alone. the two cars, the babies, the future. Everything the lord had brought them to and blessed them with will be lost, why did this happen to me? Now lets look again at the man who was blind from birth. John 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. But the works of God should be made manifest in him. This is the key, because of the works of God there will develop a testimony. A truth through proof that can be a witness to all those that hear and all those who are going through what he was going through. We all go through battles and struggles in our lives that leave scares. These scares we carry are not only for us that remind us from where we came from and what we have been through, but they are a testimony for all others that we have fought the battles that they are going through and are still here. We have been in the struggles and have overcame them for it is through these times we developed a testimony. Ask how powerful a testimony is? John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God. Were the scares still there? what do you think now will be Thomas's testimony? Now envision for a moment where you are today, battle weary still in the struggles of life with the scares and you meet someone who are now starting the same battle your just won, the same struggle you just over come. What will you say to them when you have experience the pain they are going through? You will be able to say, He is My deliverer, My comforter, My high tower, You will be able to say like Thomas, My Lord my God. He has given me my victory and this I will testify to, that Christ Jesus, who brought me through will bring you through. Lean not unto your own understanding but seek out the Savior, he who hold's the scares for you and me as a reminder that he not only over came the Cross, broke the chains of death, and rose again for you and me but he hold's them as a testimony for all to see that he has over come the world. Just as the Holy spirit leads us, we can point to Christ and help others in their battle because of our testimony. What is your testimony? Jesus is our strength..

SEPTEMBER ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

We are a father, mother and son trio consisting of Tim, Melissa and Anthony. We live in a small town called Calhoun in Tennessee placed equally between Athens and Cleveland in a stinky little town, literally "stinky" caused by a paper plant in the area. Tim is originally from another small town called Etowah and I am from Plant City, FL. We met in another little town called Benton in a bar I was managing and he was singing in. The first hour that we met he said to me that "he was going to marry me" and I said “if I ever get married it will be you" laughing of course. Little did I know at that time that God had a sense of humor and 3 months later we were married Well as you can guess, we didn't know each other very well, me being from FL and him from TN you don't get all the pertinent information....like background. Tim was addicted to drugs, alcohol and was abusive. Wow, shocker for me, never been around anything like that. I couldn't have told you what pot smelled like if I wanted to . Without God in your life, problems are escalated. We fought the majority of the time. I was very shy

back then and let people run over me. I had no boldness about me. I know now that God will never bring you to a situation that he can't get you through. I see why I had to go through things, it made me stronger and I accredit it to the woman I am today. We have to praise him in the storms too. I see how God protected us back then, the devil tried so hard to destroy us because of what God had in store for us today. One night Tim was faced with a decision, "me or the drugs, your choice but I'm not staying in it anymore" He was raised in church but had strayed as we all have a tendency of doing. He asked God to “take the desire away and he would live his life singing and serving him" Tim was delivered from drugs that night. Anthony became a part of the trio on our trip to KY to a small church. I knew he had the talent but was going to take a little push to get him started. We use to talk about singing as a group and I never had the confidence to do it. Anthony would always say "I'll sing when you sing" I told him since I had sang he needed to prepare a song on the way to KY, because he was singing. He was terrified but asked if he could play his guitar too. I said I didn't care but he was singing. I still have the video of him singing the first time. He chose "I'm Still Holding On" by The Crabb Family and guess what, he's still holding on today and doing a wonderful job. God has been opening doors for us. I hope he will open a door for us to come visit you at your church. See you soon! www.jamersonministries.com meljamerson@gmail.com 423-744-4619

Outstanding Bluegrass/Country artist, John Bowman, has earned a Dove Award nomination in the Bluegrass/Country Album of the Year category for his Worship Him project. John has been with the Isaacs and the Boxcars, but now receives this nomination for his solo work. John commented, "Thank you to everyone who voted for Worship Him for a Dove Award for Bluegrass/Country Album of the Year. I am humbled and blessed. To God be the Glory! If you are a GMA member would you please consider voting for me in the Dove Awards. My CD, Worship Him is in the Bluegrass/ Country Album of the Year - category 27." Worship Him expresses both John's passion for music and for his faith in God. John has recorded other albums, but this CD captures a certain sweetness and purity, since it is simply singer and guitar with no backing vocals or band. The songs move from the quick-rolling cross-picking style of "God’s Not Dead,” to the soothing lullaby style of "In My Father’s Eyes,” to the story ballad "I Love My Friends.” Confirmed as a minister in 1997, Bowman explains that the stripped-down format of Worship Him was inspired by his preaching experiences. He told Bluegrass Today, "When I’ve been preaching and singing, it was usually just me and a guitar. I’ve always wanted to do a record like that, so I decided to recreate on CD what I’ve been doing at these revivals and preaching dates.” If you would like to book John for a revival or concert email him at johnbowman10@bellsouth.net . To learn more about John go to his website at http://www.johnrbowman.net/ . See more about John on his FaceBook page at https://www.facebook.com/ john.bowman .

The Hidden Epidemic I want to talk to you about a hidden epidemic we're facing today just not in the United States but the world. That epidemic is called child-abuse. It's a war against our children but it's a war we have the power to stop. Before we can do that we need to understand just what we're fighting. But understanding won't be enough. I want you to open your eyes and hearts and see how real child-abuse has become. Did you know that every 10 seconds a report is mae for child-abuse. That more than 3 million reports of child-abuse are made just in the United States. A single report can include multiple children making more than 6 million children. It is reported that 4 to 7 children die everyday due to child-abuse and neglect and 3 out of 4 are under the age of 4. However when it comes to child deaths 50 to 60% of the deaths due to abuse aren't reported correctly on their death certificates. Reports also show that 90% of child sexual abuse victims know the abuser in some way. 68% of those abused are by their own family members. Over 13 million children witness violence and abuse each year in what should be the safety of their own homes. Like domestic violence child-abuse is more that bruises and broken bones. It can be emotional, mental, and verbal. When you ignore a child's needs, making a child feel worthless or stupid or putting them in dangerous situations you are abusing that child. No matter the type the scars are deep and long lasting. Child-abuse also occur across every social level, all ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions, and all levels of education. It's hard to think that someone would intentionally hurt a child. Yet there are reports where a 16 month old child died because he was held in a pot of boiling water by the mother's boyfriend. A 3 year old is traded for sex in exchange for drugs by his mother. The child suffered burns on his throat, face and eyes, bleach poisoning and even hung from the ceiling by a dog collar. A mom beats her 5 year old for breaking the TV remote.

A mom is sentenced to 5 years for killing her 1 month old by putting him in a microwave. And the list goes on and on. ( Faces of Child-abuse) Our children have the right to be loved but there are those who suffer child-abuse that never get a chance to know what love is all about. Some children's lives are taken from them due to abuse before they even reach the age of 1 by the hands of the very person who is suppose to love and protect them. Every case of child-abuse is a reminder to us about our moral obligation to provide safety and care not just for the children in our lives but the lives of children everywhere. When we look at how well we are taking care of our children we are doing a terrible job. I just can't see how a person could abuse one of the most precious things God gives us. How can you just beat on a child or abuse them until they die. How can you just toss a child out like it was garbage. How do you lay down at night and close your eyes and sleep. Another thing is how can we as a nation as people set back knowing a child is being abused and do nothing. Today though we seem to be more worried about the little things. Things that are taking the lime light away from what is important. You each have a right to decide what is important to you and how you want to view the flag or even same sex marriage is left totally up to you. I, however, think that a child that is abused, kidnapped, sold into slavery, killed or tossed away, going to bed hungry is more important than a piece of cloth. And yes right here in the United States we have children who go to bed hungry every night. Children who on the weekends don't get anything to eat because school is out. We see pictures of children over seas hungry but fail to realize we have them right here in our own towns. Every night one in four children go to bed hungry. I once had someone remark that there is no way with food stamps and government help we have children going hungry. When parents think alcohol and drugs are more important than their children then those children suffer at the very hands of people who are suppose keep those children safe. Our world is falling apart and we just sweep the major problems under the rug. I call it a “I don't want to get involved or it's not my business syndrome”. Well my friends it is our place to get involved and it is our business when we see a wrong being committed against anyone. It's time to stop turning our heads and looking the other way when it comes to our children. Child-abuse can no longer be hidden. It's an epidemic we need to stop. It's out of control. We can't solve the whole problem but we can make a difference. It's time to think about our future of our world which are our children. Let's get away from the “I don't want to get involved or it's not my business syndrome.” If you know a child is being abused in anyway, STAND UP, STEP UP and SPEAK UP. DO SOMETHING. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (800-422-4453) As you read the verses from the following song open your hearts and really listen. Jesus thought I'd take this right to you

Dear Mr Jesus I just had to write to you Something really scared me When I saw it on the news A story about a little girl Beaten black and blue Jesus thought I'd take this right to you Dear Mr. Jesus I don't understand Why they took her mom and dad away I know that they don't mean to hit With wild and angry hands Tell them just how big they are I pray Please don't let them hurt your children We need love and shelter from the storm Please don't let them hurt your children Won't you keep us safe and warm Dear Mr. Jesus They say that she may die Oh I hope the doctors stop the pain I know that you could save her And take her up to the sky So she would never have to hurt again Please don't let them hurt your children We need love and shelter from the storm Please don't let them hurt your children Won't you keep us safe and warm Dear Mr. Jesus Please tell me what to do And please don't tell my daddy But my mommy hits me, too Please don't let them hurt your children We need love and shelter from the storm Please don't let them hurt your children Won't you keep us safe and warm Please don't let them hurt your children

I just want to remind you that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you have a story of abuse or survival we would love to hear from you. You can email us your story to timetoendtheviolence@gmal.com or southerngospelmagazine@yahoo.com. Remember we can close our eyes to the problems around us but when we open our eyes again the problem still exists. God Bless Debbie

Occasionally, when I am listening to Old time Radio from the forties, such as The Jack Benny Show (my favorite) and J-E-L-LO, their sponsors, I listen to what people laughed about then. The jokes they made, what seemed funny, tell-tales to the heart and spirit of a generation. I compare the humor to today's society. My heart sinks. We have definitely changed. People had to be funny because they were not allowed to be dirty. We lived in a land of boundaries. The companies and [even] politicians [of that time] had an incredible responsibility to their country; regardless of party and ideas. They saw the draped coffins returning from war. We had a handicap president. Our motto seemed to be - Country first. These were the men (rich and poor) and women who gave it all for their country. They fought for our freedom. They gave blood and treasure. They gave sons and daughters. We loss some of the best forever. And as they came home from the battle, people seem to want to be happy again. There were musicals and comedies on the BIG screen. People seemed to love their neighbor and want them to do well. We built communities with sidewalks connecting us. Not any more.

Today, in the first twelve years of this millennium, we outsourced over fifty-seven thousand manufacturing jobs overseas and south of the border. That was six-million manufacturing jobs, one in every three we had. Men and women who worked for these companies twenty and thirty years were thrown to the curb for their years of service. They had no resource. They had no other labor skills other than service jobs. Foreclosures were at an all time record-breaking high. As the moving vans were pulling away, and communities and towns were left desolate, the tears of strangers were only water. There were no hyphenated Americans in foxholes. In order to become great again - we all need to become American again, and put this country, this people, the ones who have given all, First, and not behind profits and indifference. Our country has a sickness in its soul, in its mind, in its spirit. I assure you if we do not make the changes necessary, the consequences will be plunder.

About HIGHROAD In a world where conformity is king and following the crowd is practically a survival instinct, the women of HIGHROAD, an award-winning Appalachian gospel group from Nashville who just happen to be the best of friends, too, have always preferred the road less traveled. And so it’s fitting that the trio’s new album, which also features the girls’ inventive instrumentation, would bear the same name. Filled with the beautiful, haunting melodies and vocals that have been the group’s hallmark, Sarah Davison, Anna Grace Shideler and Kiley Phillips, all graduates of Belmont University’s prestigious School of Music, feel the songs from The Road Less Traveled reflect their personal journey of being set apart.

Good morning and welcome to the porch. I am glad you are here and I pray that God will use our efforts to be a blessing to all who read it. Let’ say a quick prayer, Father we are thankful for another opportunity to share your words and love with many, Father please use us to show you love to this hurt and dying world, Amen. Well, it is great to be back on the porch with each of you. Now, that Christmas is just around the corner and this year is about to end. Many will be caught up in the bustle and making new year resolution. I pray that each of you will make sure that Jesus is a part of both. Want to continue with the teachings of being a disciple. Here is the question Jesus ask Peter and also is asking you. Do You Love ME More Than These? John 21:15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, Do you love me more than these?” Am I first? This is the question that Jesus is truly asking. Do we have the agape’ love for Jesus? We don’t really. We may think we and even act like we do. This is a sacrificial type of love the kind of love that God the Father had for us when He sent Jesus to die on the cross. Again, we see this love when Jesus took the cross for each of us. But Jesus takes us where we are and works with it. As we strive to be a better disciple and focus on doing the things that Jesus has commanded us to do. Our love will grow and grow. Eventually, we will lose ourselves into the complete presence of Jesus. He will be our first and last thought of the day. Also, He will direct our thoughts throughout the day. This will allow us to be a better witness to the world and show others how to become better disciples. How is this shown in us personally?

How is this shown in our families? How is this shown in our Church? How is this shown to the lost? Are we really trying to be more like Jesus? Do we really pray to God or just go through the motion? When we speak of be saved, (this makes us a disciple of Jesus) Many say it is about having a RELATIONSHIP with Him and it is but we must take it further. This is true, but, as a disciple of Jesus we need to make a covenant with him. Covenant, an agreement commitment, Pledge, promise, bond or an indentured pact *** I know that many times I get caught up in “life” and put Jesus on the back burner so to speak. But, my heart REALLY wants to be the best disciple I can be. I have issues with retention. Not sure why but I lose my train of thought easily. I don’t want to just be “going through the motions” I want to truly make a difference. For many years I have felt that God has called me to use the talent/gift He gave me in a music ministry. Why has this been so hard and not come about? It for sure isn’t Jesus fault. Maybe I had more love for the talent than I did Jesus? The Bible mentions the word covenant many times (316 verses) in reference to the covenant of Jesus to us, Romans 11:17 “and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins I make a covenant….. Personal agreement with Jesus Thank …….. Attitude of gratitude MY GOD……The owner of our/my souls, the source In a covenant there is no RENTING of our hearts. When we rent something it is not ours and we cannot make changes to it. If we rent a movie it is only ours to watch. We cannot redesign the cover or make changes to the film. Why? It belongs to someone else. God must own our hearts. As we become a better disciple for Jesus we continue to relinquish our will to Him. Yes, God owns us lock stock and barrel. But he gave us a WILL. He will not force Himself on us. As disciples we give ownership to God, this is a must to grow. This allows God to make changes. He is the OWNER not a lessee. Well, that is all from the porch for now. Hope to see you again Brian

Scott Fowler of Legacy Five has announced that the group’s tenor, Gus Gaches will be departing Legacy Five after more than 5 and a half years with the award-winning group. Gaches states that, “singing tenor in a southern gospel group is a very demanding job vocally. The reality is that it has become increasingly more rigorous for me over the past several months because of severe allergies and vocal fatigue. I have sought much assistance from doctors and voice teachers alike and cannot seem to find a lasting solution. When I started this Legacy Five season of my life, I thanked Scott Fowler for hiring me. I move into the next chapter of my life thanking Scott Fowler for allowing me to be a part of this great group for over 5 years. I also want to thank the Legacy Five Family, those who follow love and support Legacy Five, for their love support and gifts to me and my family.” Fowler says, “Everyone on this bus respects and appreciates Gus and his heart. He has been such an easy person to travel with. The only time in over 5 years that I saw Gus upset was anytime the Nashville Predators failed to advance in the playoffs….seriously. Gus has a beautiful voice and we pray that with continued treatment and some rest, he will continue to be able to sing in a less taxing capacity than the road demands. Gus and his family are precious people and we wish them all the best as they enter the next season of their lives.” Gus will continue to travel with Legacy Five for a yet to be determined amount of time while Legacy Five starts the search for the tenor that will replace him. Please keep the Gaches family in your prayers as they seek God in this new season of their lives, and please pray for Legacy Five, as they seek God’s provision for the right person to minister with them. If you are interested in auditioning for Legacy Five, you may contact Fowler at scottfowler@legacyfive.com.

50 Places Where You Can See God At Work Sometimes evil appears to be winning. Our efforts at goodness, or love, or growth seem too little too late. Chronic illness, lack of resources, confusion, loneliness, people who don’t understand – is there any relief? It might feel like a lack of faith to acknowledge we often have no idea what God’s up to, or to wonder whether He’s really involved at all. Do we have what it takes to hold on? A number of the Psalms are nothing more than the writer agonizingly asking, “Why?!” Here are a few examples: “Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception.” (Psalm 12:1-2) “Why, O LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.” (Psalm 10:1-3) “They [the wicked] say, "How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?" This is what the wicked are like-- always carefree, they increase in wealth. Surely in vain have I kept my heart pure; in vain have I washed my hands in innocence.” (Psalm 73:11-13) But David and the other Bible writers regularly come back to looking at where they can see God at work. And we can do the same, though it may take diligently looking for it; our eyes can be blinded by the urgency of our troubles. We can never understand all God is up to. But how about looking in some of these places to find God at work: A baby’s smile A summer thunderstorm The stars at night The power of the ocean waves The joy you feel in giving a gift to someone

The feeling in your heart at hearing a worship song or gospel song Your brain’s capacity for memory, thought, and insight Snowflakes – no two alike How the Holy Spirit speaks to you through the Bible A church that, while troubled, will not die People who want to help others – just because Someone being baptized, today The dream in your heart that won’t go away Hearing a heartfelt “I forgive you” Birds returning to their nesting grounds every spring The way your body heals after an injury or illness A pet expressing unconditional love The changing seasons, each with its own beauty A story that warms your heart Family members who want to be together Believers, through the centuries, affirming “God is real. Jesus is Lord!” The mystery of our DNA An addict living a clean, sober, changed life The firing of neurons in your brain – right now Wheat fields ripe for harvest One Jesus-follower telling another person the way of salvation A mother nursing her sick child back to health A father risking his own life to save his family The power holding each atom together One single cell developing into a brand new human being God’s own still small voice in your soul The feeling of HOME believers sense when visiting Jerusalem The touch of your loved one’s embrace The hope believers have when a loved one dies The miracle of light Birds singing, again A beautiful flower, growing where no one may see it The wind blowing in your hair The joy of fellowship with friends or believers Knowing God can meet you, personally, today, in prayer Being free from your past, a chance to start new Knowing that God has given you something to do for Him, here and now The way good never goes away, even when evil seems to be winning The rainbow after the storm Feeling alive after a truly restful night’s sleep The way God turns what the enemy meant for harm into something good Celebrating the memory of good things God has done in the past Finding the courage to press on for another day Knowing what the Bible says about the end of the story. (Jesus wins!) Your own life changed because of Jesus. (Where would you be without Him?)

Sure, bad things happen. Sometimes they happen to good people. And sometimes even these “God at work moments are set against the backdrop of pain, loss, or evil. But why not choose to see the places in your life and in the world where God is at work. And your heart will be encouraged to carry on. Tweetables: why not share this post? Is evil winning? Here are at least 50 places where you can see God at work.

REAPING WHAT WE SOW The Lord woke me up last night and said I have something to say He said my heart is breaking as this nation has turned away From the very principles of the foundation on which it stood Now calling good things evil and calling evil things good Just as it was so long ago so it still is today When Israel begged me for a king to lead them along the way When their world started to crumble they cried out to me again But I did not hear them because of all their sin If this nation is to heal here's how it has to be My people must seek my face, repent and turn to me Nothing takes me by surprise I knew what would take place I sent messengers to warn them but they laughed in my face Yet I still have a remnant scattered throughout the land Reminding my people to seek my face and not my hand Until my Father tells me to go and get my bride Who will escape the coming judgement and live forever by my side Sadly the world has made it's choice & I will beckon them no more They'll be cast out of my presence while knocking on my door @ Joye Atkinson
