The Long Lake Protection District has applied for a permit from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to treat up to 109 acres on Long Lake with aquatic herbicides to control Eurasian Water Milfoil, Curly-Leaf Pondweed and Starry Stonewort. The proposed treatment will occur between April 15, 2017 and Oct. 15, 2017. The application will target specific nuisance plants in the treatment area. The Long Lake Protection District will conduct a public informational meeting on the proposed treatment if five or more individuals, organizations, special units of government, or local units of government request one. The meeting will give citizens a chance to learn more about the proposed treatment based on information provided to the citizens attending the meeting. Any request for a public meeting on this proposed treatment must be made within five days after this notice is published. The request must specify the topics to be discussed at the meeting, including problems and alternatives, and must be sent in writing to the LLPD, 27440 Long Lake Road, Wind Lake, WI 53185. It must also be copied to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, c/o Craig Helker, 9531 Rayne Road, Racine, WI 53177.

City of Burlington Department of Public Works is accepting applications for Compost Site Attendant. This part-time (27 hours/ week, no overtime), seasonal position begins April 1 and continues approximately until the last weekend in November. This non-benefit position is responsible for monitoring the compost site during normal business hours, keeping a daily count of all vehicles using the compost site. The attendant will check all driver identification, inspect all loads brought to the site, and direct traffic and give verbal orders on where to dump the arriving materials. The attendant will spend most of their time outside, from spring to fall, in all types of weather. Applicants must be available to work independently Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM, Sunday 12 to 6 PM, Tuesday 3 to 8 PM and Thursday 12 to 8 PM.
