The Higher Level Apprenticeship in Mechatronics Engineering provides students with a broad education in aspects of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering, which equips them for a career in industry. This course recognises the rapid growth and changes occurring within engineering and provides apprentices with the skills and knowledge to apply in an industrial environment and within their job role. This three-year Higher Level Apprenticeship is designed to equip apprentices with the ability to understand, utilise and develop the skills needed whilst working in the Engineering industry. It builds transferable skills in communication, team working and the ability to self-reflect.

Learning & Assessment
Each project, activity and/or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade.
Delivery
Students are required to attend SRC Portadown one full day per week during term-time and the remaining 4 days will be based with an employer.
Entry Requirements
Employers are seeking to attract applicants who have a keen interest in Mechatronic engineering. They expect applicants to demonstrate a “can do” attitude. In addition applicants must: • Possess a minimum grade C in GCSE Mathematics & English (or University approved equivalent*); • Hold GCE ‘A’ Levels to include a STEM subject or a Level 3 vocational qualification in Engineering, equivalent to 56 New UCAS Tariff points; • Secure employment with an approved employer who will support you through the HLA programme. Year 1
Semester 1: Engineering Mathematics, CAD Techniques Semester 2: Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals Programming & Embedded Systems
Year 2
Semester 1: Automation, Robotics and PLCs Professional Studies Semester 2: Analogue and Digital Electronics Mechanical Fundamentals
Year 3
Semester 1: CAD/CAM Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) Semester 2: Work-Based Learning (Unit titles may change through Ulster University validation process)
Progression Opportunities
On completion of this course and depending on your final results, you may progress to further study (normally year 2) on the following programmes at Ulster University; BEng Hons Mechatronic Engineering, BEng Hons Mechanical Engineering, BEng Hons Electrical & Electronic Engineering or alternatively you may progress to employment.
