Fort Payne Delegation Visits Washington, D.C.

“The Council and I had some really good meetings in Washington and I feel we made some great contacts while there” stated Fort Payne Mayor Brian Baine. “There is lots of Infrastructure money that’s available that can help to do some of the big projects that I would like to see for our area such as straighten out Joe’s Truckstop and an overpass over the train tracks” continued Mayor Baine. “We along with ALDOT and GMC have identified a couple of places for an overpass over the train track and hopefully with these monies being available, we can see this come to fruition. “There is a great chance in receiving infrastructure money to fund projects such

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Fort Payne Delegation consisting of Mayor Brian Baine and Fort Payne City Council members Walter Watson, Johnny Eberhart, Lynn Brewer, along with Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce Director Jennifer McCurdy visited Washington, D.C. last week. The Delegation met with leaders around the state, regarding issues that are of concern to Fort Payne residents. The Delegation met with U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt, and executives with Norfolk Southern Railroad.

New Paving Projects in Rainsville

RAINSVILLE, ALA.-- (Full video on Southern Torch Facebook Page) The Rainsville City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting on March 21. The Council authorized Mayor Lingerfelt to sign the contract and follow the State Bid Law for the following road paving projects: Willingham, Davis, Martin, Rosewood and Gala. The Council Accepted the bid for Chavies Road Reconstruction from Wiregrass Construction Bid in the amount of $136,338.75. This will include the elevation of culvert and guardrail and repaving. Emily McCamy of the DeKalb Council on Aging updated the Council on the
many different activities and benefits that the local Senior Centers offer. Each Senior Center has their own schedule of events and activities for DeKalb residents age 60 and older. Rainsville Fire Chief Williemac Wright discussed the Knox Box Secure Key System that needed to be updated. The secure lock box is used by businesses to make a key available for emergency personnel. The system is coded, with every use documented. Wright went on to state that some eledery residents were also enrolled in the system, in case first responders needed to obtain entrance into their homes. The Council approved the update to the Knox Box
