KIRKLAND from Page 1 Can I have tomorrow’s mail today? Will you look up a phone number for me? Will you deliver mail on Halloween? What’s in the package? I haven’t ordered anything. (Postal workers have X-Ray vision.) During her tenure, she has served on numerous finance teams, as a credit card officer, transfer agent, and received many Spot Awards. In 2014, Kirkland was named Postmaster of the Year. “Rainsville has been a

great city to call home. Employees have been like family,” she said. “Saying goodbye is hard to do.” Kirkland is a longtime survivor of throat cancer, and has been cancer free for five years after making it through 32 rounds of radiation and five rounds of chemotherapy. The Collinsville Panthers lead with 13 wins to Plainviews 10 , with one matchup ending in a tie. The Collinsville Panthers were named the Southern Torch Team of the Week for their efforts. The Collinsville Panthers held the Plainview Bears to 59 yards and only allowed four first-downs. On the opening drive of the game, Senior Plainview tailback, Tony Rodriguez injured his ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season. “He is one of the best athletes I have ever been around” said Plainview Head Coach, Nick Ledbetter. “He is a good kid and unfortunately he is done for the season.” Late in the first quarter, Collinsville drove down the field with carries from Jarrod Barkley and Mason MckInney to put the Panthers in field-goal range. Junior kicker, Jason Perez nailed a perfect 38-yard field goal to put the Panthers on the board, with :05 remaining in the first quarter. The Plainview Bears began to battle back in the second quarter with carries by Senior, Jessie Davis. A

personal foul call against the Bears voided their efforts. A pass by Andrew McLaughlin was picked off by McKinney and returned back to Plainview’s 27. The Panthers advanced down the field to the 13-yard line before a penalty ended the drive. Perez kicked another 38-yard field goal to advance the Panther 6-0 with 7:25 remaining in the first half. The Panthers started the third quarter with a 10-play, 55-yard march down the field that ended when Kaleb Jones threw an interception. The Bears went three-and-out returning the ball back to the Panthers. On third-and short, Jones scored on a 2-yard quarterback keeper with :38 remaining in the third. The extra-point by Perez was spot on, giving the Panthers the 13-0 advantage. The fourth quarter saw Perez become a hero when he dove on the high snap, booted the ball into midfield and fended off the hungry Bears. On the next Bear possession, McLaughlin connected with Jackson Hosch for the 22-yard gain. Collinsville linebacker, Blake Sparks sacked McLaughlin and knocked the ball loose. Myles Underwood recovered the ball, ending all chance for the Bear comeback.. Jones finished the game, completing 8 of 16 passes for 91 yards with one interception. He ran the ball 19 times for 109 yards and scored a touchdown. Perez finished the night as the scoring leader for Collinsville with seven points.

PELL CITY, Ala. — The Fort Payne Wildcats were defeated by the Pell City Panthers, 21-17 in the final seconds of the game. To start the game, both the Wildcats and the Panthers had a pair of three-and-outs. In the second quarter, Jordan Bain threw a 14-yard pass to Matthew Shaddix to put the Wildcats in scoring position. Alex McPherson kicked a 37-yard field goal giving the Wildcats the 3-0 lead with 10:07 remaining in the second quarter. The Panthers had an 80-yard drive making the score 7-3 with 6:50 remaining in the second. In the third, Shaddix broke a tackle for a Wildcat touchdown, making the score 10-7 with 5:14 left in the third quarter. On the third down in the fourth, Bain was hit out of bounds. The late hit call on the Panthers kept the drive alive. Bain connected with Shaddix for a 51-yard touchdown pass for a Wildcat score. McPherson made the PAT to make the score 17-7 with 8:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Pell City Panthers then bolted down the field for a 73-yard touchdown. The Fort Payne Wildcats went three-and-out on their next possession. The Panthers scored a 18-yard touchdown to make the score 21-17 with 2:01 left in the game. The Panthers then put pressure on quarterback Jordan Bain. Hoping the Wildcats still had time on the clock, Bain threw the ball away but officials ruled that the time had ran out. Matthew Shaddix is Coach Elmore’s Offensive Player of the Week, and Connor Shcharder is the Defensive Player of the Week. Fort Payne will be on the road again this week where they will battle for the TopCat Trophy against Scottsboro at 7pm.
