DeKALB COUNTY, Ala. — (Full Video on our Facebook) The DeKalb County Board of Education held their regularly scheduled meeting on July 30, at the Facilities Building. The Board started the meeting with a prayer for all the students and staff of DeKalb County as they will begin the new school year on August 7. Superintendent Dr. Jason Barnett announced at the meeting that for the first

time in DeKalb County School history, all schools are accredited through the year 2024. “I am very excited to receive the certificate of Accreditation from the AdvancED accreditation board. For the first time in County History, the board and all of our county schools will be accredited. This is quite an accomplishment and means the work we are doing meets a high and rigorous national standard for our students. I want to thank all of our employees for their hard work and the communities for their

strong and continued support of our schools.� Dr. Barnett addressed the Board regarding the Salary and Supplements for Principals, Substitutes, Employee Attendances, Band Directors and Coaches. It was placed on the table for further review and consideration. Petroleum Bids were awarded to Cedar Bluff Oil Co., Inc. at a price of $2.170 per gallon for Gasoline, $1.888 per gallon for Diesel at $0.150 over Opis Low price. In other business, the following retirements and

Buckelew (38 of Horton, Alabama), was with Humpheries at the time of his arrest. Buckelew was also charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. "In the case of Mr. Humpheries, we apprehended a wanted criminal who was also caught in the act of bringing a large amount of Methamphetamine into our county,� stated Sheriff Welden.

By Zach Hester Reporter DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — The World’s Longest Yard Sale will make its way back to DeKalb County next Thursday, August 1 and last until Sunday, August 4. The sale begins each year on the first Thursday in August and continues for 4 days (Thursday

through Sunday). This great tradition gives participants the opportunity to travel almost 700 miles from Gadsden, Ala. all the way to Addison, Mich. over the course of those four days and see yard sales as far as their eyes will allow. The event, which is also referred to as the 127 Yard Sale because most of takes part of Highway 127,

began in 1987. The Lookout Mountain Parkway was added a few years after the event started. The portion that will run through DeKalb County stretches from Gadsden to Chattanooga along the Lookout Mountain Parkway for the most “scenic rural America� in the United States. You can find everything from antiques to fresh produce and furniture on the more than 1,000 vendors in Alabama alone! The event is free to the public and on sale times at everyone’s homes typically begin around 8am and operate until late into the evening. Beloved Businessman RAINSVILLE, Ala. — Mr. Hollis White, 81 of Rainsville, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
