After many years of anticipation over the course of several administrations, the Chavies Bridge project is finally completed. The Rainsville City Council, alongside Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt, State and County elected officials City employees, and Rainsville citizens, joined in the ribbon cutting held on Wednesday, September 18. Lingerfelt stated the bridge was a major concern in case of Highway 35 closure for traffic from Rainsville to Fort Payne. He stressed the importance of the project for the safety of Rainsville citizens and all involved.

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on September 16, 2019. During the workshop, Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt announced that the Council had been “slack� regarding the conduct of the council meetings. He stressed that items had been thrown on to “at the last second� or brought up without being on the agenda. Lingerfelt stated that from this point forward, items not on the meeting’s agenda will not

be discussed. Lingerfelt also said the hiring procedures going forward will go through him. Councilmember Derek Rosson agreed with the agenda changes, but objected to the new hiring procedure. Lingerfelt cited two recent hires, who were approved by the Council without him ever meeting them, as the reason for the changes. “We’re need to clean that up,� said Lingerfelt. “We’re going to start today, and that’s the way it’s going to be.� Councilmember Bejan Taheri brought forth a measure to reinstate funds

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — Last month, it was reported that work had begun on a new Dollar Tree in Rainsville. This week, the company confirmed the store's opening on October 24,

2019. The store, which will occupy the space formerly used by Kilgore Drugs and Rite Aid Pharmacy, is a chain of discount variety stores who specialize in items that are sold for $1 or less. It is a Fortune 500 company based in Chesapeake, Va. with

over 14,000 locations across North America. "Dollar Tree continues to grow and we are proud to be part of the Rainsville community," stated Kayleigh M. Painter, Dollar Tree's Investor and Media Relations Manager. According to a

statement released by Dollar Tree, a store of this size will employ anywhere from 12 to 20 associates. Interested applicants can apply online at www. dollartree.com/careers or in person at the store location closer to the opening date.

FYFFE, Ala.– The Class 2A, No.1 ranked, Fyffe Red Devils defeated the No. 6 ranked Collinsville Panthers, 24-3 on Friday night. With 6:10 remaining in the first quarter, Ike

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — The Geraldine Bulldogs defeated the Brindlee Mountain Lions, 64-6 on Friday night. The Bulldogs went on attack early in the game and scored 35 unanswered points in the first quarter. With 8:30 remaining in the first quarter, the Bulldogs scored on a 40-yard touchdown run by Caleb Hall. The point after attempt was good, giving the Bulldogs the 7-0 advantage. As time was running out in regulation play the Bulldogs allowed the Brindlee Mountain Lions to score. The point after attempt failed, making the final score of the night, 64-6. The Geraldine Bulldogs will host the New Hope Indians on Friday night.

SYLVANIA, Ala. — The Sylvania Rams shutout the Gaston Bulldogs, 52-0 on Friday night. Sylvania struck early and often, scoring 28 unanswered points in the first quarter. On the second play from scrimmage, Brody Smith connected with Keenan Wilbanks for the 71-yard score. After the Rams shut the Bulldogs down, Gaston turned over the ball on the 37-yard line. Gareth Anderson sailed

into the endzone, five plays later, on a 22-yard run with 6:00 remaining in the first quarter. Gaston could not catch a break as Jordan Johnson, intercepted the ball. Smith made a 38-yard pass connection with Grant Atchley for the score. On the next possession, , Gaston fumbled. Levi Anderson cashed in on the fumble, and scored from 8-yards out, making the score 28-0 at the end of one. FORT PAYNE,Ala. — The Fort Payne Wildcats celebrated their Homecoming with a thrilling 31-30 victory over the Mae Jemison Jaguars 31-30. At the end of the first quarter, the game was at a standstill with neither team scoring. In the second quarter with 11:16 remaining, Hunter Love dove in the endzone to put the Wildcats on the board, with a 7-0 lead over the Jaguars. The Wildcats scored again with 1:23 remaining in the second quarter when Darwin Camp punched it in from two yards out, bringing the score to 14-0. Mae Jemison answered back with :34 remaining in the first

half, with a 56-yard touchdown run. The kick was blocked by Fort Payne’s Cam Thomas. The WIldcats carried the 14-6 lead into halftime. A fake punt set up an 49-yard touchdown run by Mattew Shaddix and gave the Fort Payne Wildcats the 21-6 advantage, with 8:11 left in the third quarter. The Wildcats defense forced a 3-and-out and blocked the Jaguars punt. With 5:55 remaining in the third, Darrell Prater picked the ball for the WIldcats and charged into the endzone, giving the Wildcats the 28-6 lead. Jemison ran up the middle for a 80-yard touchdown run, with 5:43 remaining in the third. The Jaguars went for two to cut the lead to 28-14.

In the fourth quarter with 11:22 remaining in the game, Jemison raced down the middle scoring a 55-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good to make the score 28-22. Alex McPherson drilled a 56-yard field goal to give the Wildcats a 31-22 lead with 8:14 remaining in the game. With 4:52 remaining in the fourth, the Jaguars cut the lead to one scoring the last touchdown of the night, 31-30. TIme ran out for the Jaguars as the Wildcats took a knee on their next possession. “We had way too many turnovers, but our defense rose to the occasion and stopped Jemison everytime we turned it over,” said Fort Payne Head Football Coach, Chris

Elmore. “ Alex McPherson had another outstanding game, including a 56-yard field goal, that ended up being the winning points. Our offense struggled at times but converted two key 3rd and long plays in the final drive to allow us to run the clock out.” Fort Payne will take this Friday off, and will travel to Etowah on Sept 27.

VALLEY HEAD, Ala. — The Valley Head TIgers defeated the Falkville Blue Devils on Friday night, 32-7. Jordan Burt charged down the field nineteen yards to score the first touchdown of the night for the Valley Head Tigers. The point after attempt failed, making the score 6-0. With 5:42 remaining in the first half, Jordan Burt strikes again on a 8-yard run. He also brought the extra 2-points, giving the Tigers the 14-0 advantage. Falkville returned the kick-off and galloped down the field for 89 yards to score. The extra point was good, narrowing the Tiger lead to 14-7 going into the half. With only :05 ticked off the fourth quarter clock, Marlon Trinidad scores from 1-yard out. The point after attempt failed. With 6:18 remaining in regulation play, Burt scores his third touchdown of the night on a 22-yard run. The Tigers stretched their lead to, 26-7. With 1:45 remaining in the game, Burt struck again from 3-yards out, giving the Tigers the 32-7 region win. Valley Head will face a familiar foe as they take on former Valley Head Coach, Brian Knapp and his Gaylesville Trojans, Friday night.

Tough Loss for the Eagles FSB Team Wins Golf Tourney

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Cornerstone Christian Academy Eagles fell to the Clay County Eagles, 58-30. Clay County outscored the Cornerstone Christian Eagles, 25-6 in the first quarter. Cornerstone scored when Lucas Hale connected with Eli Carter on a 22-yard

touchdown pass, making the score 25-12. In the second quarter, Clay County scored three touchdowns. Tristian Johnson blocked the point-after attempt to make the score, 46-12 at the half. To start the second half, Clay County scored another touchdown. Layne Fortner scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Hale. In the fourth, Clay County returned the

kickoff for their final score of the evening. Cornerstone added two more scores, one from 38-yards by Fortner and the other by Tristian Johnson. Lucas Hale finished with 195 yards and two touchdowns. Layne Fortner had 79 yards ad two scores. Cornerstone will host Brooklane on Friday night.

IDER, Ala. — The Ider Hornets fell to the Section Lions, 12-0 in a regional game on Friday night. Section Lions scored three points on a 33-yard field goal, with 3:00 remaining in the first quarter. With 7:28 remaining in the second quarter, Section scored on a 4-yard scamper into the endzone. The extra point was good, giving the Lions the 10-0 advantage going into the half. After a high snap rolled through the endzone, Section scored a safety in the third quarter and added two more points to their advantage. After both teams were shut down in the fourth, the Section Lions defeated the Ider Hornets, 12-0. Ider will travel to take on the Collinsville Panthers on Friday night.

REGION WIN FOR THE LIONS

DOUGLAS, Ala. — The Crossville Lions defeated the Douglas Eagles, 24-7 in Class 5A, Region 6 play on Friday night. With 2:33 remaining in the first quarter, Kolby Lesley sailed in from 8-yards out for the score. The extra point attempt failed, making the score 6-0. After a Crossville turnover, the Douglas Eagles scored their only points of the night with 6:22 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Eagles the short 7-6 lead. In the second quarter, the Lions scored after a 71-yard touchdown drive down the field. Hunter Haston connected with Lesley, on a 2-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion attempt failed. In the third, after an offensive fumble, Crossville recovered on the Douglas 21-yard line. Two plays later, Trace Allen found the end zone from 7 yards out , to make the score 18-7. With 7:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Eagles threw an interception. Lesley returned the ball from 80 yards to make the final score of the night, 24-7. Crossville improves to 1-3 (1-1 in the region). They will host Alexandria this Friday night.
