White gold, yellow gold or platinum; carat size, clarity, and color; princess cut, emerald cut, or round solitaire... These are the buzz words that often play on repeat in the minds of a soon-to-beengaged couple. And for a very good reason too! Whether a couple announces their engagement and then later heads to the jewelers or the ring comes as a total surprise to the future bride, it really cements the reality of their not-too-distant wedding bells. H owever, it's important to not get overly caught up in the e.:<citement of the moment and still take time to reflect on the significance of the wedding ring. Most people already know that the ring is used to symbolize the new "forever" that a married couple embarks on. A wedding ring has no beginning and no end; a reflection of the eternal nature of the new union. Furthermore, the hole in the center of the ring is not merely just empty space. It is symbolic in its own right as a passage, gateway, or dom; representing a lead into events both known and unknown for the newly married couple. Some of the earliest rings were made by the ancient Egyptians who twisted and braided reeds growing alongside the Nile river. They placed the rings on the second finger of the left hand because of a belief that a very vital vein ran from that finger to the heart. It seemed appropriate that the ring which symbolized true love should be worn in this manner. The tradition continued as the Greeks conquered

the Egyptians and then it was passed on further to the Romans who called this the "vena amoris"; Latin for "vein of love."

If you're looking for the freshest and hippest wedding, you might want to draw inspiration from the turn-of-the century and we're not talking about Y2K. It may seem a bit ironic that one of the latest trends in wedding themes actually dates back to the period from 1890-1910. These are the same years when the Wright brothers took to the friendly skies in the first powered airplane, when Susan B. Anthony led the way for a woman's right to vote, and when Utah was admitted as the 45th state in the country. These two decades were also known as the birthplace for an international style of art and architecture called Art Nouveau, wruch is French for "new art." And this idea of "new art" has been made new again as inspiration for the weddings of today.

To understand the style of Art Nouveau, you must look to mother earth as much of the architecture, jewelry, and fashion were inspired by nature. Buildings were constructed in asymmetrical shapes with arches and decorative surfaces covered with curved, plant-like designs. First, consider your wedding venue. Try selecting a location that will provide that ethereal and light feeling. Outdoor spaces might provide the best marriage of nature and function for your own marriage.

During the turn of the 20th century, skirts belled out and flowed like blossoming flowers. For your wedding gown, pick the mermaid style, one that gently flares out around your knee like the shape of a calla Lily. As for the bodice, try to find something embroidered with soft and subtle buds.

Also popular were ornate jeweled headdresses and headbands that came down over the forehead and resembled soft vines circling the crown. You can choose a flowing veil with soft lines or forego the veil altogether and select a jeweled headpiece covered in curved Aoral shapes to provide that enchanted feeling. For other accessories and jewelry, you might need to take a field trip to an area Indian reservation. In the early 1900s, gemstones Like turquoise, opal and other semi precious stones found in the earth's crust created the focal point for pendants, earrings and bracelets. Gemstones will also allow you to create a subtle pop of color for your wedcling day look.

Glass was a popular <utistic medium during the Art Nouveau period. Many artists found tremendous expression tlrrough their use of stained glass. To translate this artistic style to your modern day wedding, you might want to consider trying a stained glass effect on your cake. Just a warning though, with such elegant artistry sculpted in fondant and painted in food coloring, it might be too pretty to eat. Art was often two dimensional in the Att Nouveau movement.

Advertisements, posters, labels, and magazines were painted, drawn, and even printed. Your invitations are a great starting point for incorporating this style. Simply do a web search on Art Nouveau fonts and you will begin to understand the sweeping lines and feminine features of the letters. You may even go as far as having an artist render a painting of you and your fiance that resembles tl1e advertisements from this era. The artwork could then be clisplayed at your reception or featured in your wedcling invitation. The most important thing to remember in creating an Art Nouveau inspired wedding is harmony. A pleasing and coorclinated arrangement of all your wedcling details will allow your guests to journey back to a simpler time where nature and life came together to create a peaceful, serene and beautiful atmosphere.

Don't forget, when meeting with your floral designer you'll want to make sure to chat with them about getting replicas of your bridal bouquet (and possibly the groom's boutonniere) for your bridal photos. Today's brides have many gift registry options, and creating yours should be a fun priority. Decide what you need (and want). Your "wish list" will help transform your house into a real home. D on't stress about the experience. Your guests will actually like the help. T hey like knowing you really want their gift, because you picked it out. A gift registry also helps them get to know your "style" and personality.

Here are four simple Bridal R egistry tips: Know Yours elves Work together. Remember the gifts are for both of you. Many brides like picking out the basics for the home, while grooms often prefer electronics, outdoor gear or even power tools. Working together builds your relationship and helps you appreciate each other's interests. Consider your situation. Make a list of items you already own, and talk about what you are missing. List your priorities. Talk about your living space, future plans, and your interests. Fill your registry with items you will really use.

Know Your Guests Select gifts in many price categories. This helps your guests purchase gifts they can really afford. Register for plenty of gifts, so your guests have many choices. Visit and update your registry often. Double check your mailing address. Give compliments about the store and its merchandise and even send them a thank you note. Begin creating your bridal registry soon after being engaged. Brides today arc using big and bold color to make their weddings pop. The days of choosing one accent color for a wedding of white are long gone. A great place to start looking for inspiration is at a fabric store. Get swatches of your favorite fabrics and set them side-by-side. See which combinations you like and go from there. If you haven't spotted it yet, the "pie table" trend is popping up just about everywhere, from rustic to seaside themed celebrations. Not everyone likes cake. It's understandable, and not necessarily a bad thing, unless it's your wedding day and that's all you're serving for dessert. Of course, you want to keep it simple especially since so much thought and planning has already gone into making the rest of your reception perfect. So, what do you put out for your guests to give them a little variety? Pie! It's easy, looks inviting on a table next to just about anything, and most importantly, it's delicious. Tyler asked me to marry him on March 11, 2011 while dancing to Ray Charles in his living room. I wake up at 4:00 AM, which means it's still dark outside and my rooster of an alarm is nowhere near making its daily squawk. What made me think I would need to set that again? I realize that my stomach is in knots, and there's not even a chance of going back to sleep. My thoughts wander to Tyler and whether or not he's also experiencing this newly acquired insomnia. I send him a text, and decide I might as well get up and start getting things ready for the day. Our wedding day. Except. ..

there's really nothing for me to do. The remarkable thing about wedding planners, is they not only do all of the planning, but the finalizing and arranging. T he bride and groom are left to do litde more than make sure their outfits are in order, and my outfit has been in order for some time. J essica May Bridal made sure of that. After I shower I realize even my make-up and hair aren't my job today, and so I resort to just sitting. I glance over the itinerary Forevermore Events provided me. It's strange how quickly this day came, but how slowly these minutes are passing. I'm not nervous, not scared of something going wrong. I'm only excited. When I get to the salon I'm greeted by J aclyn Lamoreaux, my hair and make-up designer. Because

she's sweet, she doesn't even mention the bags under my eyes or the fact that I'm totally antsy today. She just smiles as she takes out brushes and mascara and lipsticks of every color. I feel like a total princess. When she's finished I look at myself for a long time in the mirror, feel a smile grow on my face, and think seriously about giving her a hug. O kay, no. That would be weird, but somehow a mere "thank you" doesn't seem enough. It's exacdy what I've always dreamed of, and accomplished even with Tyler calling my phone every thirty minutes or so to talk.

As I drive to the ceremony I stare admiringly at the breathtaking bouquet Bloomers has arranged for me and smile at the thought that it's here. I'll see Tyler soon, for the first time today. I get out of the car

and take a deep breath. When he sees me he smiles and as soon as I'm close enough he whispers a sweet compliment into my ear. It makes me feel wonderful. T he ring ceremony officiated by the humorous Steve Masefield of Zion Weddings is beautiful--not too lengthy or short--and every word spoken I note, because I want to remember. Occasionally I look away from Tyler, only to feel overwhelmed with love and support from all of the family and friends that traveled to be here for this. Beautiful string music by Zion Belles plays as we make our way to the lawn of Entrada and my jaw literally drops. It is without a doubt the prettiest wedding reception I've ever seen, and it's mine! Pale pink and white flowers cover the tables along with antique crystal. Fresh balls and bales of cotton litter the scene, and give the whole celebration a Southern Dixie feel. Custom designed menus, courtesy of Hey H ay Designs, lay beautifully on every table. Beautiful

gold frames that hold our engagements by Gideon Photography, scatter the area, accenting the color scheme and complementing shiny gold dinner plates. I take it all in, and a flood of thankfulness to the design team of Forevermore Events comes over me. It's more than I thought it would be. Every morsel of food by Entrada was to die for and the rest of the evening unfolds flawlessly. The sun sets and hanging lights illuminate the party. I dance until my feet hurt, to all of our favorite songs. Everyone laughs when the "daddy daughter" dance proves to be a mix of serious and silly hits that Festival Sounds so graciously put together at my fathers request. I get teary eyed and overwhelmed when the tribute-to-my-father video begins to play. Castlebridge Films has created this as a surprise for my dad. I eat with family and friends the picture perfect wedding cake Sweet Cakes crafted especially for us. I laugh when I think that tomorrow, I will be sound asleep, Mrs Tyler Cardon, with my husband at 4:00 AM.

It is tempting when it comes to wedding photography to turn to a friend or relative who is handy with a camera. With technology today, odds are you know someone with a relatively high-tech camera. They will get caught up in conversations with other ftiends and relatives, and miss your treasured moments. It's not their fault. They are invited guests, and understandably want to take part in your big day as a guest. A professional photographer is at your wedding for the sole purpose of capturing your wedding to its fullest. Their only concern is to capture those tittle moments that might not seem significant at the time but will make for amazing memories later.

How did he propose? Highway Patrol. Freeway onramp. Christmas day. Doesn't it sound romantic? We were on our way to his parents for Christmas dinner and after stopping in Cedar City for gas, we were pulled over while getting on the freeway. Long story short, Easton had a warrant for his arrest and was being arrested. How heartless could this officer be? Christmas day? The officer pulled me out of the car while Easton sat in his cruiser then went to get Easton who was in handcuffs. I started laughing because I couldn't believe this was happening when suddenly Easton was on one knee proposing. He had plotted the whole thing. The officer even stopped to get me flowers. It was a total surprise.

How did you come up w ith the budgetfor your w edding, and did y ou stick to it? We were lucky enough to have help from our parents with our budget. We knew what we wanted and were able to stick witl1 that. Was there any personal element you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception? We had our personality throughout the whole wedding. From the invitations to the nacho cheese fountain I HAD to have. Easton's Grandfather created an amazing letter box where we placed a letter to each other along with a bottle of scotch. Did you have any ''DIY~~ elements at your reception? All of our ideas were brilliantly brought to life with help from our wedding planner! How did you decide on your color scheme and theme for the wedding? With the surroundings of Entrada, 1 knew I wanted a natural look. My inspiration came from a brightly colored desert cactus which made each element pop. Succulents were a must for me. We wanted it to be very laid back and fun. Our guests had the most amazing time and we are still hearing about how great it was! What w as a ''must have"for your big day? No unnecessary stress for my family. It was so wonderful to know we didn't have to worry about setting up, changing tables,

cleaning up etc. Letting everyone enjoy the night and not worrying about those things was so great.

Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference? Hiring a wedding planner. Laura Stagg was absolutely amazing. Besides tying the knot~ what was your fav orite part ofthe day? Seeing everyone enjoy themselves as much as we did. The dance floor was packed all night long! Any advice you could pass on to future brides? Don't procrastinate! So many of the elements where very personal to me. The door that served as a backdrop for our ceremony came from my grandparents house. I love to read so we incorporated books throughout the decor.

How did you com,e up with the budgetfor your wedding, and did you stick to it ? My parents were helping pay for the wedding so they pretty much set the budget. We ended up going a bit over, but it was well worth it.

Did you have any ''DIY" elem,ents at your reception? Yes. We made book paper flowers and fans that were used in the decor, we also hand made our seaside inspired ring holder.

What was a "must have"for your big day? Good friends and a great photographer to help capture all of the memories. We could not have been happier with either!

Any advice you could pass on to future brides? Plan as much as you can in advance. Do as much as you can in the weeks before. On the wedding day don't stress about the small stuff, it will all turn out fine and you won't even remember the little things.

Share a wedding budget splurge that made a difference? Definitely the food! Every little morsel was so amazing and I know all of our guests had a great meal they could really enjoy. My mouth still waters thinking about the cornucopia of delights from Marvellous Catering.

Where did you go for your honeymoon? We went to Lake Powell, one of our favorite beaches. The emerald green water and contrasting red rocks make for one of the most awe inspiring and romantic vistas.

How did he propose? Nick proposed on December 22, 2011. The ring that I had picked out had to be remade because my ring size was too small to risk resizing it so I had been patiently (more like impatiently) waiting for it to finally arrive. He told me earlier in the week that he called McArthur's and they told him the ring wasn't going to be ready before Christmas. Not only was I going to have to wait even longer, I wasn't going to be able to tell my brother (who is currently serving a mission) I was engaged when we talked to him on Christmas. I remember texting Nick and saying something like, "You know, I just talked to Santa and he said that I've been a good girl and should get my ring for Christmas." That little text set the tone for how Nick would propose. He came over to my house that Wednesday night and was acting super funny and sending me all over the house to do weird things. Eventually we sat down on the couch and talked for a little bit. I guess I was supposed to notice the random box that he ((hid" in our tree but I normally don't look for randomly hidden boxes so Nick had to say, "Look, what's that in the tree?" I looked and saw a pretty little

box that was about the size of a ring box. I hurried and snatched the box from the tree and opened it only to find a note that said, "Kortney, I gave your present to Nick. Love, Santa". Then, I turned around and saw Nick down on his knee ready to propose.

How did you come up with the budgetfor your wedding, and did you stick to it? There wasn't really a concrete budget, but we did make sure the majority of our budget was spent on the elements that were most important to us as a couple. Was there any personal element you incorporated into the wedding ceremony/reception? Yes, I am the owner and designer behind Kortney Eggertz Design, so obviously the invitations and all the print details were a big part of our wedding. How did you decide on your color scheme and theme for the wedding? I got a lot of my inspiration from Anthropologie's new wedding shop BLDHN. I really loved the whole aesthetic feel of their site. I was with my family in Las Vegas and we were about to head home when we got a call from grandma. She said her car had broke down at the temple and we had to go pick her up and take her home. At the time, this didn't seem out of the ordinary to me so I didn't think twice about it. When we arrived at the temple my mom said my grandma was getting her things together and would be out in a few minutes. She suggested we take a walk around the temple while we wait. Once we were almost all the way around the temple I could see DJ waiting on a bench with a rose in his hand. I should have seen this coming but I was completely surprised. He got down on one knee and the rest is history!

When we sat down with Laura, our wedding planner, she helped us break down our budget into specific categories from what was most important to what was least important to us on our big day.
