Since its conception in 2012, Franschhoek’s Mystery Weekends have truly become a bucket list item for food and wine lovers. With world-class wineries and fine dining establishments scattering the valley like autumnal leaves – all framed by vineyard-carpeted hills and dramatic mountains – Franschhoek consistently delivers an exceptional standard of hospitality and cuisine. So, you can trust that, mystery or not, it’s going to be great.

How does it work? For R6 350 or R8 650 per couple, depending on the package you choose, you and one very lucky person get to enjoy an allinclusive Winelands getaway, where much of the day has been meticulously planned for you. From luxurious accommodations, gourmet cuisine and among the best wines the Cape has to o er to unique, bespoke Franschhoek experiences, it is all taken care of. (The confirmed dates for this year are 3–5 June, 26–28 August, and 30 September–2 October.)

It all starts with a glass of wine and your special Mystery Weekend box, which unravels all the exciting details of your stay. Of course, you’ll also have time to explore Franschhoek on your own, giving you ample opportunity to experience the town’s constellation of art galleries, artisanal chocolatiers, and arts and crafts stores, perfumeries and the village market.

One might question the prospects of a mystery weekend, where you pay a set fee for a fully planned, fully accommodated, and fully catered experience without knowing a single thing about where you’re going and what you’ll be doing. But when your playground is the exquisitely beautiful Franschhoek, the fine dining capital of the Cape, if not the country, then you can take our money, thank you very much!
