Gone With the Wind: Scarlett’s Women Film and Talk Join us as we celebrate LOVE – part of the BFI LOVE season, a nationwide series of events this autumn. Gone With the Wind is the most successful film of all time, particularly adored by generations of female audiences. Alongside screenings of this digitally restored masterpiece, writer Helen Taylor explores the fascination of epic heroine Scarlett O’Hara, and the appeal to women of one of cinema’s most original love stories. Helen Taylor, Emerita Professor, University of Exeter, has published widely on American and British literary culture. Her 1989 study of women’s fascination with Gone With the Wind, entitled Scarlett’s Women, has been updated by her 2015 BFI Film Classic about the film.

The Mikado

These two short Italian operas are each regarded as the composers’ masterpieces, and are brought together in a new staging by award-winning director Damiano Michieletto, who sets both operas in a poverty stricken village in 1980s southern Italy, where the Mafia has a hold.
