welcome Welcome to our Spring season here at South Hill Park. We are very proud to be presenting no less than three major in-house productions in the Wilde Theatre this season starting with the comedy play One man Two Guvnors which so famously launched James Corden’s career into a new stratosphere on both sides of the Atlantic. This is closely followed by the musical Sweeney Todd – the chilling tale of the vengeful barber from Fleet Street. Then at Easter we are tremendously excited to be producing Oliver! for the first time since our triumphant record-breaking production in 2008.

As I write this there are so many productions being rehearsed here that there is a marvellous cacophony of sound traveling up, down and across the building from the various rehearsal studios at South Hill Park. The creative heart of Berkshire? Certainly! And now with a Green Flag and Gold Medal from Britain in Bloom – we can justifiably claim to be the awardwinning creative heart of Berkshire. I am so proud of the teams who work so hard to keep the creativity of South Hill Park so vibrant and alive – and so grateful to you, our supporters and friends, for coming so regularly to take part in all that we do here. Thank you! Ron McAllister Chief Executive, South Hill Park

Dinner Theatre Enjoy a West End experience without the travel with our dinner theatre package. Arrive early and enjoy a relaxed two-course meal in our popular Atrium Restaurant before taking your seat for the show of your choice in the theatre. Prices start from £22 per person (incl meal & ticket). Price varies depending on the show. Look out for the knife and fork symbol next to a listing in the brochure. We recommend you take your seat in the restaurant 90 minutes before show starting time. Where the performance is in the afternoon the meal can be taken after the show. Dinner Theatre packages can be booked at Box Office or on our website.

Rediscover your funny bone! Have you visited the Cellar Bar for two of our most popular events? Every Friday in the Cellar we have an evening of laughter from some of the best up-and-coming comedians on the circuit. Matt Richardson, Lee Hurst and Andy Parsons have all been regulars at this well-established Comedy Night. One Sunday a month MISSION IMPROVable, presented by Mad Monkey, take over the cellar. Bring your imagination; there’s no rehearsal or script. It’s down to you to give the comedians suggestions of what to improvise and the results are hilarious! To join in the fun on Friday night you must be 18yrs+ but if Improv is more your thing the age limit is just 14yrs (but you must be accompanied by an adult). Check the dates listed throughout the brochure.

A very special concert to showcase the prodigious talents of two young teenage pianists. A programme of solo works by Scarlatti, Schubert, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, among others, with two Brahms Hungarian Dances for four hands as the boys join in a duo finale. Definitely not to be missed.

This husband and wife duo presents a wonderful programme of three English song cycles together with Haydn’s E flat Piano Sonata. Butterworth’s famous cycle A Shropshire Lad, Vaughan Williams’s early Songs of Travel are heard alongside Alistair Jones’ cycle Fables, premiered at the Purcell Room in the late 1980s.

Cellist Douglas Badger and pianist Matthew Kam offer a stunning programme with two of the great master works of the duo repertoire – The Shostakovich and Rachmaninov Sonatas, together with Schumann’s lovely Adagio and Allegro Op.70. This is certainly a chamber concert not to be missed.

This amateur production of One Man, Two Guvnors is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Ltd.

South Hill Park Arts Centre in association with London Contemporary Theatre are thrilled to present this internationally-acclaimed smash-hit, which was made famous by James Corden and has been hailed as the funniest show on the planet by The Mail and a comic classic by The Guardian. Francis Henshall has been fired from his skiffle band and so becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe. What he doesn’t know is that Roscoe is really his sister Rachel, posing as her own dead brother – who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis jumps at the chance to earn some extra cash and also takes a job with none other than Stanley Stubbers – but to avoid being found out, he must keep his two guvners apart. One Man, Two Guvnors, based on A Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, has been described as a glorious celebration of British comedy – a unique, laugh-out-loud mix of satire, songs, slapstick and glittering one-liners.

How about a shave?

Benjamin Barker was a kind and loving father with nothing but love in his heart until a jealous Judge punished him for a crime he did not commit and sent him off to Australia. Barker returns as the transformed Sweeney Todd, with an insatiable hunger for revenge against those who separated him from his wife and child. Not even Mrs Lovett’s meat pies can curb his appetite! A blood-thirsty tale of revenge, love, loss, tragedy and more fresh meat than Mrs Lovett could ever hope for. This musical hardly pauses for breath as Todd’s need for revenge spirals wildly out of control.

Join professional storyteller Derek Florey for an afternoon of wonderfully imaginative stories as he brings to life much loved children’s classics such as The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, The Hare and the Tortoise and many more.

Brother and sister Martin and Hilda Massie have moved to the Bluebell Hill development where they hope to enjoy a quiet, Christian existence. Just as they are preparing for a housewarming, their peace is shattered by a young trespasser in their garden. Neighbours congregate and together they agree to form a neighbourhood watch group to safeguard against crime. But after various incidents, matters quickly escalate. What begins as a well-intentioned scheme for a safer community ends in violence and acrimony. Alan Ayckbourn has once again tackled a very topical subject with his own unique style and wit. A true modern classic, painfully funny and exquisitely truthful.

But we won’t tell the kids if you don’t and they’ll think your ace for sending them somewhere so exciting! No experience is necessary, just bags of enthusiasm!

The stories you know from the characters you don’t. This family-friendly double bill comes from London’s world-renowned venue, Shakespeare’s Globe. Romeo Untold, the story of Shakespeare’s starcrossed lovers Romeo and Juliet is retold through the eyes of the Capulet Ball’s party planner. Titus Untold retells Shakespeare’s goriest tragedy, Titus Andronicus, as seen from the kitchen of Titus’s piemaker. These shows premiered to great critical and popular acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and are now touring internationally. Rediscover two Shakespearean classics together in two hours including an interval. Succeeds brilliantly. There is a generally held wisdom that Shakespeare is not for the very young. This completely disproves this idea. ★★★★★  The Times When The Globe set out to make Untold, it had two main aims: to introduce young audiences to Shakespeare, and create good shows in their own right. They’ve achieved both.  ★★★★★ The Scotsman

This exhibition is a playful observation of the symbols and rituals surrounding superstition and folklore in the form of ceramic sculpture, installation and hand built pots. With such rituals deeply embedded in her own childhood and carried through to adult life, Ceramicist Zillah Puri felt compelled to explore these themes in her new body of work.

In 2015 Bracknell Forest Council invited amateur photographers to get creative and find different ways to interpret the theme ‘Bracknell through the Seasons’ From spring bluebells, to summer meadows; autumn colours to winter forests, there is a wealth of lovely parks and countryside that can be explored, enjoyed and captured.

South Hill Park Arts Centre is a place where you can spend your life. A cup of coffee on that first date, then dinner and a show, a proposal in the Italian Gardens, followed by a wedding reception in the Recital Room. A few years later you can visit the panto with the children and encourage them to embark on a journey through the arts. Years later, they might even have that cup of coffee on that first date at SHP. It’s a place that can stay with you for a lifetime.

Please visit www.southhillpark.org.uk By phone 01344 484123 During the hours of 7 and 8pm our box office staff are extremely busy – you may experience a delay in your call being answered.

Refunds and resales

Call into the Arts Centre and we can take your booking personally.

Tickets, once purchased, cannot be refunded. If the show is sold out, we can try to resell your tickets for you. A £1 administration fee per ticket is charged. Resale cannot be guaranteed. This service is free to members.

When booking a ticket, your details will be held on our database and you will be given the option of being sent information on future shows both at South Hill Park and by other arts promoters that we feel may be of interest to you.
