welcome with thrillers and murder mysteries being very much in vogue. This season we proudly present Talking Scarlet’s all-star production of Strictly Murder (though I am told not to expect to see Tess and Claudia).

South Hill Park Arts Centre is committed to developing exciting emerging talent, and we are delighted to have commissioned the composer George Jennings (the Globe; HookHitch) to write a new score (based on Gaelic texts) for our production of Macbeth at the beginning of February. This is part of a programme of developing new approaches to commissioning and presenting musical theatre at SHP.

That takes us up to Easter and our spectacular production of Seussical based on the writing of Dr Zeuss – bring the whole family – young and old!

Sticking with the musical theme, our jazz nights have been going so well that we are delighted to be able to introduce a Bracknell Jazz Young Musicians series this season in the glorious Wilde Upstairs starting on Wednesday 18 January with Tom Barford. How wonderful to hear such talented young musicians at the start of their careers.

Art Unites Us South Hill Park Trust is a registered charity. We exist to provide art and culture to our local community through a wide range of courses and workshops for adults and young people, as well as providing two theatres, a cinema and free to attend exhibitions. Currently we are raising money to help fund our youth services (including youth group 11/19 and bursaries for theatre courses) following a cut in funding from the Local Authority. These services are aimed at supporting the vulnerable and disadvantaged young people within our local community. All of the income raised from individual giving is ring-fenced to support the charitable aims of South Hill Park Trust. Ukranian pianist Ivan Hovorun offers a stunning programme of virtuoso music. This includes Liszt’s Transcendental Studies and Concert Etudes alongside Chopin’s Fantaisie in F minor and PolonaiseFantaisie. A wonderful programme to start the New Year.

Bulgarian pianist, Raya Kostova, made an appearance last season with her husband, baritone Thomas Humphreys. We now hear her in her own right as concert pianist offering a fine programme of Scarlatti, Beethoven (Trauermarsch Sonata), Tchaikovsky, Schubert (4 Impromptus op. 90) and the Faust Waltz – Liszt/Gounod.

Belarusian pianist, Olga Stezhko, already a successful international artist, offers us a marvellous virtuoso progamme with music by Debussy (Suite Bergamasque and Images), Bach’s 5th Partita, Scriabin, Poulenc and Prokofiev, and finally two famous pieces from Ravel’s Miroirs – Oiseaux tristes and Alborada del grazioso.

A favourite with our audience, Chiyan Wong makes a welcome return this season with a typically adventurous programme: Busoni – Nine variations on a Chopin Prelude, Beethoven’s Sonata no.24 in F#, Beethoven’s Ecossaises (transcribed by Busoni) and concluding with an opera Paraphrase by Liszt. Come and enjoy the adventure.

Bulgarian pianist, Evgeny Genchev, makes a welcome return after his rapturous reception in 2015. He promised us something special for his next concert. This programme includes the complete Rachmaninov Op.23 Preludes, Schubert’s op.33 German Dances, Liszt’s Polonaise no.2 and finally Hungarian Rhapsody no.13. Not to be missed.

Last season, Tyler took a concert for SHP at 24 hours’ notice. Here he is in his own right and with a wonderful programme. Haydn – Sonata in E flat, Schumann – Sonata in G minor, and a collection of Liszt pieces including the Fantasie and Fugue on Bach. Not to be missed.

Japanese pianist Tadashi Imai is already a seasoned and successful concert artist. He offers us an amazing programme of the complete Chopin Etudes Op.10 and Schubert’s final Piano Sonata. Both these works are milestones of the piano repertoire. This is a rare opportunity to hear them together.

The multi-award winning Byron Wallen has been recognised as one of Europe’s finest trumpet players since the 1990s, prized for his fluent and dynamic playing. He has played with such artists as Andrew Hill, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard and George Benson, and steeped himself in a variety of world music traditions. Also featuring tenor saxophonist Helena Kay (Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year 2015).

Sara is fast becoming recognized as one of the most talented jazz singers working in the UK. She first trained as a cellist at Chetham’s and the RNCM, before emerging as an expressive jazz vocalist and composer. Nigel is one of Britain’s finest guitarists. His blend of flowing bebop lines, blues feeling and the will to swing has made his music instantly accessible and popular with jazz audiences. He is a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s and an ex member of The James Taylor Quartet.

Ben Waters is regarded as one of the best boogie woogie piano players around, his live shows receive rave reviews and are guaranteed to bring the house down. Ben has worked with some of the best musicians around including Jools Holland, The Rolling Stones and many more.

Returning with all new material for 2017 is the stage adaptation of the classic radio comedy show. For half-an-hour every Sunday afternoon, audiences of up to 15 million people would gather around the wireless to listen to Kenneth Horne and his merry crew get up to all sorts of mischief.

He will be joined on stage by his son Tom on saxophone. By the age of 10 he had played the West End and has since played with many Rock ‘n’ Roll legends and toured the world with his father.

With its infamous movie spoofs and hilarious regular characters such as Rambling Sid Rumpo, Charles and Fiona, J Peasemold Gruntfuttock, and Julian and Sandy, Round the Horne was one of the biggest and best radio comedy shows of all time, and still endures today, 50 years on.

The show will feature special guests as well as support from Berkshire based acoustic blues band John Cee Stannard and Blues Horizon.

Working with Victoria Spearing and the South Hill Park set designers, members of Print @ the Park take the words of the Bard, particularly from ‘The Scottish Play’ and things North of the Border as inspiration for the creation of original art in their exhibition in The Atrium this Spring. Skilfully using the techniques of lino and woodcut, etching, lithography, drypoint, collagraph and monotype, either singly or as hybrid works, the group show the versatility of these printmaking techniques. There are also unframed browser works for sale in the Foyer.

Hayward Touring’s latest print exhibition features two collections of works by one of the most influential artists of recent decades, Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010). Best known for her powerful emotionally charged sculptures – enclosed ‘cell’ or cage-like installations and fabric figures – she was also a prolific printmaker and draughtswoman. Most of the French-American artist’s work dealt with strongly autobiographical themes, invoking her childhood emotions of loneliness, desire, anxiety and jealousy. Autobiographical Series (1994) consists of 14 etchings illustrating some of her deepest thoughts and memories whilst the 11 Drypoints (all from 1999) brings

her obsessions into more vivid focus. Recurrent themes, such as a woman giving birth, a cat, ladders, long hair, feet, clocks, scissors, bathtubs and a pregnant mosquito all contain references to her emotional biography. An apt example of this is the memory of her mother sewing – her family ran a workshop restoring tapestries in Paris – evoked in ‘Sewing’, in the Autobiographical Series. Since she was honoured with a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1982, Louise Bourgeois has been widely acclaimed as one of the most original artists of the late twentieth-century and has exhibited at museums throughout the world, including at Tate Modern in 2007. Green Flag Award

South Hill Park is about seven minutes drive from Bracknell Town Centre in the Birch Hill area. Easily accessible from the M3 (Junction 3) and M4 (Junction 10). We are very well signposted – look for the brown road signs saying ‘Arts Centre’ or showing a comedy mask.

There is FREE but limited parking for 200 cars at South Hill Park. Please note the car park fills up quickly on busy days and you may need to seek alternative parking. Please follow signs for overflow parking at the Leppington car park which is a five-minute walk across our rear grounds.

South Hill Park is among a recordbreaking 1686 parks and green spaces that received a prestigious Green Flag Award 2016/17. Together with Bracknell Town Council and Bracknell Forest Council who manage the grounds of South Hill Park, we are delighted to be celebrating the achievement of this award for the fourth year running.

Please leave plenty of time to park when attending South Hill Park.

Public transport South Hill Park is served well by local buses. From the Bus/Train Station to Birch Hill Shops take buses 4, 171 or 172. Its then a five-minute walk to the arts centre. Tickets may be exchanged up to 24 hours before the performance. Please bring your tickets to the box office in advance to arrange your exchange.

South Hill Park Arts Centre is a place where you can spend your life. A cup of coffee on that first date, then dinner and a show, a proposal in the Italian Gardens, followed by a wedding reception in the Recital Room. A few years later you can visit the panto with the children and encourage them to embark on a journey through the arts. Years later, they might even have that cup of coffee on that first date at SHP. It’s a place that can stay with you for a lifetime.

Refunds and resales

Call into the Arts Centre and we can take your booking personally.

Tickets, once purchased, cannot be refunded. If the show is sold out, we can try to resell your tickets for you. A £1 administration fee per ticket is charged. Resale cannot be guaranteed. This service is free to members.

An 80p admin fee is charged per transaction for bookings made with credit and debit cards in person and over the phone. Cheques are made payable to South Hill Park Trust Ltd. Online bookings are subject to a charge of £1.25 per booking – except current members who will not be charged the fee.

When booking a ticket, your details will be held on our database and you will be given the option of being sent information on future shows both at South Hill Park and by other arts promoters that we feel may be of interest to you. At this point please advise us should you not require either of these services.

A levy of up to £1 is included in the ticket price to go towards the SHP Development Fund.

Access

Reservations Reservations can be held for four days or until 48 hours prior to a performance. Reservations cannot be made on the day of the performance. Tickets not paid for within this time will be released. We are unable to reserve tickets for near sell-out shows.

Special offers Please note that only one special offer or discount can be applied to each event.

Tickets and concessions Concessions are available to children, students, registered unemployed, registered disabled and those 63 years and above and when available are shown next to the event. Please bring proof of status.

We try to accommodate all visitors to the Arts Centre facilities. There are disabled parking bays and ramped access to the premises allowing easy entry to the reception area. There is lift access to the first floors in the main mansion and Theatre allowing people to visit the theatre bar and Bracknell Gallery. There are also adapted toilets equipped with emergency alarms. There may be restricted access to parts of the building due to its eighteenth-century listed status, however, every effort is being made to address this and we recommend pre-booking and we will assist you in any way possible. Helpers accompanying people with disabilities are entitled to a complimentary ticket, please advise box office staff of any special requirements you have when making your booking. An infra-red hearing system has been installed in the Studio and Wilde theatres and a £5 deposit will be required.
