A MESSAGE FROM OUR MAYOR

Dear Residents and Friends of the Village of South Holland, To experience a “renewal” is to begin the process of bringing back that sense of “joy” into our FAITH journey, into our FAMILY relationships, and into our FUTURE experiences. It’s a joy that we’ve been familiar with in the past, but over time, we have lost the ability to incorporate that inner sense of joyful living, which allows us to appreciate God’s design for us…truly enjoying the miracle gift of life.

Here is a quote from Greg Anderson that can help us understand the daily journey of taking time to untie the ribbons that secure the all-important gift of a meaningful life:

"The single overriding objective in wellness is creating constant personal renewal where we recognize and act on the truth that each day is a miraculous gift, and our job is to untie the ribbons. That's the Law of Esprit: living life with joy."

In our ever-changing world, renewal has oftentimes been a common theme for the fall season…a new school year, the planting of winter vegetables, the beginning of the migration pattern for birds seeking warmer climates. In our everyday lives, renewing our joy centers around our spiritual, mental, and physical wellbeing. For many, renewal comes through prayer, meditation, and planned physical activity. Reading or listening to Bible passages, novels, biographies, historical fiction, and poetry can be very inspirational. Taking the time to plan individual and group physical activities help round out a holistic and healthy approach to renewed joy in our lives.

For the South Holland Village Board and Administration, in our continuous pursuit of improvement, we truly embrace the gift that is given to us to guide a community full of passionate, faith-filled, and industrious individuals, all of whom comprise our South Holland family. Individually, and as a team, our leaders constantly seek to do what’s best and, just as important, what’s right, for the churches, schools, businesses, and families of our great village. Much like opening an unexpected present, we come to work each day full of energy, excitement, and anticipation to “untie the ribbon” for the privilege of serving the community with which God has truly blessed us.

As we move into the fall months, I encourage you to be true to yourself in recognizing the great (and small) miracles bestowed upon you and your families. Utilize those positive and productive thoughts to live your life with joy by thoughtfully renewing and refocusing your priorities to live well. Opportunities abound for participation in annual community events such as our Breast Cancer Walk, Harvest Fest, Military Tribute, and Winter Sports Showcase. All you have to do is “untie the ribbon” and join in on the fun!

The SHRS staff continues to provide new, dynamic, and diverse programming for all ages. From karate to theater, and aquatics to pilates, there’s a program for all to enjoy. So, begin the renewal process and set your sights on creating your own sense of personal wellness. Enjoy reading this edition of the FIT Book, and may you each find your own miraculous gift.

Let’s untie our ribbons together as we begin the fall of 2024!
