Top 5 Ideas for Selling a Home this Winter
! It might seem that everyone is hibernating for the winter, but home shoppers are still out there in the colder months. Here are few tips for making your property stand out. 1. Stay warm This is not the time to save a few bucks on your heating bill. You want to create a feeling of welcoming warmth and you can't do that with a chilly house. If the home is vacant, keep the heater on a timer so the property is warm during showing times. 2. Lighten up It's even more important to make sure each room is well-lit during the darker winter months. Table and standing lamps are quick fixes for a dim room. 3. Highlight seasonal features Build a fire. Arrange some plush throws and fluffy cushions on the sofas in your finished basement. If your home has features that make it a cozy place to spend the winter, be sure to highlight them. 4. Show off your landscaping in photos To help prospective buyers look beyond winter's snowy or brown lawn, and envision the property in warmer months, display photos of the house taken when things were green and blooming. Make a few flyers or a photo album and leave them out (and open) where buyers are sure to see them. 5. Clear the way to a sale Make sure the driveway, walkways and porch are safe and free from snow and ice. Be sure to shovel your deck and patio so buyers can walk out and imagine enjoying them in warmer times. Thinking of selling your home? There's no need to wait until spring. LOUIS PRESTA
MAYOR, VILLAGE OF CRESTWOOD Lou Presta Mayor, Crestwood Illinois Candidate 6th District, Cook County Board of Commissioners
!
Facing hundreds of lawsuits stemming from a past administrations mismanagement of water service, the Village of Crestwood was all but written off by state and federal politicians. That’s when the citizens of Crestwood turned to Lou Presta by electing him their Mayor. Within three years, Presta turned the finances pf the village around settling all those lawsuits and increasing revenues within the village by engineering new development that brought millions of dollars in new revenue and hundreds of new jobs to the village. Today, Crestwood enjoys one of the highest municipal credit ratings in Illinois and its citizens enjoy tax rebates given by the village to lower their property tax.
!
“Too often politicians approach budget financing by threatening to cut service or raise taxes,” Presta contends. “But an alternative to such drastic measures is to promote growth of business, which creates jobs and new revenue”. That is the Presta way and that is now what he intends to do at the County level as he seeks office as a Cook County Commissioner of the 6th District. A longtime political mover in Chicago’s southland area, Presta uses his business acumen to bring business and labor together, not only promoting new industry and commercial development, but high paying jobs for his constituents as well. A successful businessman in his own right, he understands the risks and rewards of being an entrepreneur and has earned the trust of both sides. “Lou Can Do” is the motto given to him by his supporters who now hope to see him bring long overdue success to all of Cook Counties southern municipalities.

KEVIN MATHERS KGM HOME INSPECTIONS
“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” -Simon Sinek
!
This has become the mindset for Kevin Mathers, President of KGM Home Inspection, founded in 2012. His “WHY” is to consistently add value to not only his customers, but anyone around him.
!
After 20+ years in the corporate world, Kevin decided it was time to start making a life, instead of just making a living. He left Operations Management in the fitness industry and found himself managing for a roofing company, which eventually led him into the Home Inspection business and becoming an entrepreneur. Like most startups, his office was the spare bedroom in his home and the passenger seat of his SUV. With a strong marketing and networking background developed in a corporate setting, Kevin set his sights on the real estate arena and has never looked back. There was no “plan B” when he started. This home inspection company was going to be his final retirement and would provide future employment for others who shared his vision.
!
It’s 2017, and Kevin has moved from the bedroom to a 1700 sq.ft. office with training center, has one full time inspector, and is a National Technical Instructor for AHIT-American Home Inspector Training. He is in the process of launching KGM Realtor Training, where agents and brokers can obtain Continuing Education Credits approved by the State of Illinois for license renewal on elective courses such as “Managing the Home Inspection” or Radon and Mold education.

GIA CLAIRE
!AUTHOR, SPEAKER, & COACH Gia is the epitome of transformation. This is a woman who basically reinvented herself and created the life she always dreamt of but never dared to live. She was born under the name "Janet" but after a burning desire to create a pen/ stage name and a pivotal conversation about living life with her grandma at the kitchen table on a lazy Sunday afternoon, Gia was born. Gia Claire Kubik "Gia Claire" was the creation of knowing there was more...more to life than waking up in a cold sweat worrying about money..more than a 9-5...more than a sad divorce. When you ask her about this transformation she will tell you boldly "I had no choice. I didn't like judging myself, or letting others opinion matter, I didn't like being told what I was or was not good at, I didn't like relying on others for my happiness, I didn't like laying in bed at night wishing I was someone else. F-that. I decided to re-invent myself. I created Gia. She's bad-ass."
!
Enough said. Gia is not only a leader in the field of genetics she is an author, speaker and coach. Gia's work is based entirely off of inspiring people to become the very best version of themselves. "Become the Most Powerful U", her second book is launching Q1 of 2018. "My first book, Head First, healed me. The second book will heal others." Gia speaks all over the country and coaches privately and in groups. She does workshops (next one here in Chicago on Dec 9th) and lives for the opportunity to help someone get busy creating a powerful life.
!
"This isn't life coaching. It's Power Coaching. I help people remember how awesome they are and hold them accountable to greatness." Gia is Mom to what she declares is the most amazing 17 year old on the planet, could be her bias but if he's anything like her we know he's up to something in this world.
!
Gia is on fire. When you're with her you feel like the most important person in the room. A judgement free zone to get free of all you BS. A soft place to land and re-invent yourself. Who knows? Maybe you can even develop your super powers as Gia swears we all have some.
!
Gia is available to speak at your next event and/or you can inquire directly about group or private coaching. She can be reached at gia@giaclaire.com or visit her at www.giaclaire.com (under slight construction)

LISA HALIKIAS ODYSSEY GOLF FOUNDATION
Lisa Halikias’ roots are deeply embedded in the Chicago Southland. Growing up in the Homewood Flossmoor community as the daughter of the late Senator Aldo DeAngelis, she quickly learned community outreach by working alongside him in her youth. Lisa applied those skills to her first career in corporate sales and marketing for the Chicago hospitality industry where she worked for years. Married for nearly 25 years to premiere southland developer and banker, Aristotle Halikias, Lisa will tell you that her most important work has been nurturing their family and raising their four children. Lisa has chaired the Make a Difference and Kindness Matters programs at her children’s schools multiple times, because giving back to the communities her family is a part of has always been important to her. Which is why when her husband’s family generously donated their jewel, the Odyssey Golf Course, to create a foundation honoring veterans, active military and special needs individuals, she was honored to lead the foundation as Executive Director. Coming from a family where many have served has made her acutely aware of how we should cherish the freedoms this country has provided them and so her gratitude is endless. In her spare time, Lisa is also a nutritionist and enjoys cooking, gardening, raising and rescuing dogs and, of course, spending time with her family.

When the mind is silent, concentration is increased and we experience inner peace in the midst of worldly turmoil. Some benefits of meditation are: improved concentration, being less bothered by little things, better health, and knowledge of self. Did you know that hypnosis and guided meditation are very similar because they both reach the subconscious mind and can support you in making the changes that you want in your life. You may not have been able to make these changes on your own consciously. Hypnosis and guided meditation are both done by relaxing the body to reach the subconscious to start this change process. Changes that will help you to be less anxious, be happier, be more productive, be able to make decisions easier and be more balanced and be healthier in body, mind and spirit. After learning more about meditation and hypnosis, changes will happen to you so easily it will seem like magic. How can it get any better than that! What else is possible!

PANOREA BAKUTIS ROBERT MORRIS UNIVERSITY
Education in her household was always key in the way she was raised. Her parents came from a country where education was a privilege and not an assumed path for the youth. Perhaps this is the reason why she chose the path of higher education as her career. “I feel fortunate that I work in a career for which I have such a strong passion – a field in which I strongly believe, “ she says. As Director of Institutional Graduate Recruitment for the Morris Graduate School, a division of Robert Morris University, she represent a “product” which helps people grow as much on a personal level, as on a professional level. In today’s employment market, a graduate degree is vital to pursue those more desirable employment opportunities and for career advancement. She assist students in meeting their career, education and personal goals from enrollment through watching them walk across that graduating stage with degree in hand. It is so fulfilling when her students communicate how their selfconfidence has grown and the number of doors now open based on earning that graduate degree – She is so grateful for this education journey that they have taken together.

JOHN SUNDERLAND PRESIDENT, JAMES & SONS
What struck me first when I sat down to speak with John was that its clear he enjoys his work. "It's an awesome thing enjoying what you do everyday. We're in a fun business, helping nice people celebrate special times." John is second generation operating James & Sons Fine Jewelers. His father James started the business in 1964 in Calumet City. Today, John and his brother Jim have expanded to stores in Chicago, Orland Park and Schererville Indiana. "My Dad always concentrated on making James & Sons a fun place be. That simple objective is still what we focus on 50 years later." The store was busy when I was visiting John, especially for a weekday night in early November. "We love everyone that makes the doorbell ring. In addition to being a great choice for buying a fine watch or piece of jewelry, our service department is a big part of our business. We have master goldsmiths, graduate gemologists and expert appraisers. We repair, appraise and purchase jewelry from the public every day." I asked John what he felt was James & Sons key their success. "Its our people, without doubt. We have been blessed with so many great people on our teams. If you don't have the right people, the fun turns to headaches real quick." I noted to John a few customers enjoying a beer or a glass of wine while shopping. "That's a small part of the 'fun' vibe I was talking about" replied John with a smile.

DAVID HINDERLITER RACONTEUR
Things changed in my professional life on Good Friday, 2015. I had breakfast with a guy I had recently met and I was intrigued by him, so I wanted to learn more about his story. Going into the meeting I wasn't sure what to expect but afterwards I knew things were going to get exciting. Fortunately, as a community organizer I saw a new partner to help me do what I love so much, sharing. Most of my career has been spent getting people together. Through the years I was a Jaycee, a wish grantor with Make-A-Wish Foundation, member of the Salvation Army Board, road race director, Boy Scout leader, youth soccer coach, and on countless boards and committees. Each experience brought me together with hundreds of people all with great stories. What I lacked was a way to share these great stories. Flash back to Good Friday, 2015 and I realized I had met the future! Meeting with Mark Rashid, visionary behind Southland TV, was the beginning of a new way of doing business. Starting with conducting video interviews, FaceBook Live segments, and Video Podcast interviews was making sharing better than ever. Now the ultimate, Southland Vibe magazine! How cool is it that a breakfast led me to a unique partnership with an awesome media guru. I am so excited to be a part of the rapidly expanding Southland TV media portfolio, my sincere thanks to brother Mark

!
Tim Keefer, a patent attorney, and his wife Patty, who possesses a culinary degree with honors, and their youngest son, Danny, have been active in the running of this award winning restaurant, from the build out of the space starting in January of 2015 to the opening in late July, 2015. Since that time, the Keefers have withstood the burden of the LaGrange Road construction project to recently being voted as a Top Ten Seafood Restaurant in Illinois by Best Things Illinois. “Being voted number 5 in the State after only two years in business is a testament to the hard work of my wife Patty running the front of the house and my son Daniel helping Patty while doing most everything else that needs to be done. They are both tremendous assets. Our older son, William, assists when home and while away at law school, he runs the Facebook campaigns; in sum, it really is a family affair.”
!
The quality of the food also plays a major factor in receiving this honor. Famous for serving a traditional New England Lobster Roll since day 1, Keefer emphasizes “quality and authenticity are what make this restaurant unique. From the Lobster Roll to the New England Clam Chowder, as well as the shrimp, scallops, oysters, king and snow crab, crab cakes, cornbread, etc. you will experience some of the best regional seafood from around the country prepared fresh daily and served in a clean, casual atmosphere. Our All You Can Eat Fish Fry is just another standout item prepared fresh when ordered, like the calamari, fresh clam strips and oysters. Almost all of our seafood selections are U.S. wild caught, sustainable products from manufacturers who employ best practices for harvesting and packing” Keefer says.
!
The success of the business is attributed to quality; quality of service, quality of food and the overall experience.
