Letter from the Executive DIRECTOR Dear members, neighbors, and friends: Our thanks go out to all the participants in the Second Annual Racetrack Road Trade Show. That was held on June 11, at the Double Tree Hotel. This was our second show and we sold out exhibitor tables with foot traffic reflecting the interest and enthusiasm of local businesses who wanted to meet and learn more. Thanks go out to our corporate sponsors Amcom, PNC, Green Apple Barter, SatCom Digital Networks, Site Security, and Southpointe Telecom. We picked up several new advertising clients who are taking advantage of the 31,000 readers of our Racetrack Road Directory, published and online. You can pick up extra copies in many of the lobbies and hotel rooms of the area. Featured in this edition are Napoli Restaurant & Lounge, DoubleTree By Hilton and Chrome Federal Credit Union. It is well established that we are the ‘go to’ publication for what’s new in the area. Take advantage of the low advertising rates and high exposure. For more information, please visit www.southpointetradeshow.com , call 724.873.7777, or email: racetrackshow@southpointe.net. Make sure you send your news articles to our editors desk, editor@southpointe.net and send advertising requests to terry@southpointe.net. As always, we would like to have breakfast, lunch or cocktails with you to discuss your business and how the Racetrack Road Business Association can help you grow. don@southpointe.net or 724-873-7777 Thank you,

CHROME FCU Hires VP Small Business Banking June 17, 2015 Media contact: Amanda Lunger, 814.882.4301, alunger@ chromefcu.org Bruce Goodman hired to jumpstart Credit Union’s Small Business Lending Program WASHINGTON, PA — CHROME Federal Credit Union, formerly known as Washington Community Federal Credit Union ($131.2MM, 11,140 members), recently added small business banking to its product portfolio and hired Bruce Goodman to lead the charge. Bruce is a seasoned banker with over twenty years experience in commercial lending, equipment and real estate financing, and mergers/acquisitions. Most recently employed with Farmers National Bank as Vice President/Commercial Loan Officer, Bruce has worked throughout southwestern Pennsylvania at Dollar Bank, Gateway Bank, Sky-Huntington Bank, Citizens Bank and PNC Bank; creating a proven track record of strong banking relationships that result in small business success. “I believe CHROME offers something new in the small business arena,” said Christopher George, President & CEO.
“Many feel underserved by the big banks and we’re here to advocate for them; because we know that small business drives our community.” He continued: “Bruce is not only a highly knowledgeable banker, he is also trustworthy and down-to-earth. He makes you feel confident that he has your company’s best interests in mind. That’s why we know he will shine as CHROME’s Vice President of Small Business Banking.” To help meet the needs of local small businesses, CHROME will host free seminars on a variety of topics in the community room at their flagship store (440 Racetrack Road in Washington). Construction of the store is set for completion in September 2015 and seminars will be posted on the Credit Union’s website, chromefcu.org, which is also set for completion in the fall. Bruce earned his undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan and holds an MBA from Robert Morris University. He is an executive board member of the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber and currently holds the position of Secretary. He enjoys volunteering for the United Way and Salvation Army, as well as play golf and shooting sporting clays.

Business and Social Networking Networking is a must-have skill for practically anyone, from corporate executives to college or graduate students. Networking is usually categorized into two classes: business and social. Oftentimes, these two networking types mingle together (pun unintended). Business and social networking can be done online, offline, or both. No consensus seems available as to which method is more effective. However, online social networking is perhaps the most widely used among the younger generation.
Online Networking
LinkedIn is probably the most commonly used online networking tool for business purposes. I have been on
LinkedIn for a long time, and I now have more than 3,000 connections. I landed a couple of jobs through my LinkedIn contacts. In my case, LinkedIn works! Facebook, on the other hand, is more of a social networking forum. Parents and grandparents are on Facebook to communicate with their children/grandchildren, and to post and view pictures. Although I am on Facebook, I am tired of posting selfies, and hoping for my friends to “like” them, or make ego-boosting comments. The dot.coms above are only a couple examples of what are referred to as social media. There is YouTube (which may be more popular than Facebook among the younger crowd), Flickr, Tumblr, Pinterest, and the list goes on….

The highly successful show drew a wide range of vendors, which included politicians, such as State Senator Camera Bartolotta, Congressman Tim Murphy, State Representative Jason Ortitay, and the Washington County Commissioners. Offline Networking
Examples of offline or in-person networking include after-hour mixers, breakfast workshops, networking luncheons, company open houses, trade shows/exhibits, and seminars/conferences/symposiums. These offline networking types are commonly a mix of both business and social networking. In the Greater Pittsburgh area, the key players for trade shows and seminars are Hart Energy, the American Business Conferences, and the Southpointe Marcellus Shale Chamber of Commerce. Hart Energy and the American Business Conferences usually do shows and seminars for vertical markets, such as the Marcellus-Utica Midstream Conference held early this year by Hart Energy. Watch for the latest announcement! The Pittsburgh Technology Expo and Convention is the first program of this type in Pittsburgh, designed to profile your technology. The entire ballroom of the Sheraton Station Square will be filled with exhibit tables featuring technology products and services including electronics, cellular, GPS, Software, Schools, Health/medical, Mechanical, Chemical and much more. Be a part by reserving an exhibit table in this show for as little as $500 to $2,000 for front row display table. Call for information 724-271-8540 or go to www.pittsburghtradeshow.com.

The Southpointe Marcellus Shale Chamber specializes in small-to-medium size enterprises (SMEs). The Chamber, located in Southpointe/Canonsburg, is considered the “voice” of the Southpointe Industrial Park and surrounding areas such as the Racetrack Road Corridor. The Chamber has been very successful in conducting all of the offline networking examples mentioned above. Its monthly networking luncheon is undoubtedly the largest in the area, connecting usually over 100 business leaders. The Chamber’s weekly breakfast workshop draws between six and 12 executives who want to learn more about the Southpointe businesses, and the opportunities available to them. Both online and offline networking should be explored by anyone who wants potential contacts that they may tap into at some point in time.
