Thinking About Buying An RV?

Recreational vehicle (RV) sales soared last summer due to restrictions on air and cross-border travel. Many people enjoy being able to visit a number of different places on a single trip while also having many of the comforts of home on hand. It’s also an opportunity for people working remotely to be able to travel without having to take any vacation time.

While you may be tempted to join the masses, buying an RV is a major investment that requires a lot of thought. There are different types of RVs and many options available, so it’s important to determine the one that best suits your needs.

Here are 5 things to keep in mind if you’re thinking about buying an RV:

TYPE

Do you want an RV you can drive or one you can tow? Do you want one that is new or pre-owned?

SIZE

Will you feel comfortable driving an RV that’s similar to a bus? Do you want something that will be easy to take anywhere? (i.e. small campsites)

SPACE

How much space do you need? Do you want multiple sleeping areas or only one bed? Do you need lots of room for storage or do you travel light?

FEATURES

Do you want all the amenities of home including luxury appliances and furnishings? Or are you just looking for the basics?

FINANCES

How much can you afford? Don’t forget about the additional expenses associated with owning an RV like gas, maintenance and the cost for storing your RV in the winter.

If you aren’t sure what type of RV would be best, get feedback from people with RV experience and consider renting first. That way when decide to buy, you’ll be confident you made the right decision.
