C-K won't allow W-E skaters

CHATHAM-KENT — For those Leamington and Kingsville residents missing hockey and skating, the Wheatley Arena has been eliminated as a possible destination for your winter activities.

Dr. David Colby, Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health, has recently recommended that no new facility bookings from jurisdictions designated as red or in lockdown be accepted at Chatham-Kent owned facilities, at least until provincial restrictions are loosened.

In support of this the directive, Chatham-Kent facilities will no longer be accepting any new bookings from any residents that reside in a red or lockdown area until further notice. Existing ice contracts will be honoured.

For new bookings, residents of Chatham-Kent may be asked to present photo identification upon entry into the facility to ensure compliance to the directive.

“Most organizations are conducting their own self-monitoring of the risks to ensure that those team members in yellow zones are not exposed to team members in the red or lock down zone,” said Jeff Bray, Director of Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries for Chatham-Kent. “This is a best practice that we encourage across the board for all ice users.”
