Kingsville gives Santos sensational send-off

By Greg Coulter

The Town of Kingsville gave outgoing Mayor Nelson Santos a great sendoff last week as dignitaries, friends, family and residents came together to wish him farewell.

July 17 will officially mark the end of the 25- year Santos era — serving the citizens of Kingsville and Essex County — as he pursues a new career opportunity as CAO of the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.

Thursday, July 7 was marked with an open house at Lakeside Pavilion where well-wishers were treated to refreshments and a tribute slide show.

Nelson Santos and Hilda MacDonald

Mayor Santos greeted each of the guests with conversations of past accomplishments and future opportunities, not only for himself and his family but also for the community that he has proudly served.

Leamington Mayor Hilda MacDonald was one of the first guests to arrive.

They have known each other for over 40 years and as she offered congratulations she also noted, “I’m a little bit sad to see this day happen.”

Mayor Santos assured her they will remain in touch.

Council will soon begin the quest to fill his seat.
