Introduction
At South Shore, we design and manufacture our products locally from quality materials The materials we test, develop and select are the most important part of what we do. We never compromise and do not let any material decision to chance.
And because so much of what we do is done right here, it's easier for us to maintain strict quality standards. You see, it's our job to simplify the consumer ' s life. And we take it to heart.
Our Materials
Fiberboard
It is sometimes difficult to find your way through the different names and appellations of wood materials.
What is the Difference?
Fiberboard is a type of engineered wood product that is made out of wood fibers
Types of fiberboard (in order of increasing density) include particle board or lowdensity fiberboard (LDF), medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and hardboard (highdensity fiberboard, HDF).
Fiberboard or wood composite is sometimes used as a synonym for particle board, but particle board usually refers to low-density fiberboard.
What Materials Are Used in Our Products?
Particle Board
Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF)
Our Materials
Particle board
The particle board used in the manufacture of our furniture meets market standards. We know our furniture will be enduring and resistant for many years to come, thanks to its specially bonded, top-quality wood fibers, its smooth surface and exceptional machining ease.
Why Choose This Material ?
Provide affordable ready-to-assemble furniture for everyone with a greater selection of superior quality finishes and styles;
Simplify assembly - Allows the use of the cam lock nuts system which is already adopted by the vast majority of consumers. Assembly can be easily completed with a few tools, and low labor;
Maximize space and lower cost - Ready-to-assemble particleboard furniture is lighter, takes up less storage space and lowers transportation costs.
Our Materials
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
The MDF we use is produced using the latest in manufacturing technology. From the continuous press to super refining and the latest in sanding and cutting technologies, MDF is perfect to achieve product performance, flexibility and consistency
Why Choose This Material ?
Offer a wider selection of furniture styles - With MDF we can add moldings, legs, cuts and shapes to our furniture pieces;
Higher resistance - MDF is hard to both flex or crack and it's resilient to moisture; Maximize space and lower cost - MDF is not lighter but it does make flat-pack furniture possible, taking up less storage space and lowering transportation costs.
ur Materials
beyond designing furniture
safety is our top priority, which is why we make sure to use materials the California Air Resources Board’ s (CARB) Phase 2 standard.
ic substance that CARB2 intends to control is formaldehyde emissions posite wood products, including hardwood plywood (HWPW), ard (PB), and medium-density fiberboard (MDF).
There are many finished products made from composite wood materials: kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, shelving, furniture, engineered hardwood flooring, baseboards, interior doors, picture frames, and children’ s toys, among others.
Under CARB 2, the limits for formaldehyde emissions are:
PB: 0 09 ppm (parts per million)
MDF: 0.11 ppm (parts per million)
Our Materials
Particleboard is environmentally friendly
This means that there is no waste when particleboard is manufactured, and no extra logging need to be done to produce particleboard.
What does "FSC Certified" mean on Wood & Lumber Products?
Choosing FSC Certified Lumber and Paper Products means it comes from sustainably managed forests and helps to protect old-growth forests - which is good!
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, not-for-profit organization created in 1994 whose mission is promoting responsible forest management and the production of sustainable lumber and wood products via their "FSC wood certification labels".
Our Materials
Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL)
Thermally fused laminate or TFL is made by fusing a resin-impregnated sheet of décor paper directly to a substrate. Heat and pressure activate the resin in the saturated décor paper, creating a cross-linked bond with the substrate. Particleboard and MDF are ideal substrates for TFL because they are consistent, uniform in strength and free of defects.
Why Choose This Material ?
Diversity - Offer a large selection of finish colors;
High resistance - TFL panels have excellent scratch and wear resistance.
Texture and character - Surface textures are created with steel press plates that emboss the decorative overlay to heighten the realism of wood grain
Our Components
Euro Slides
Euro slides feature a simple and reliable design. They are covered with an epoxy finish for maximum resistance and are equipped with a "gravity" mechanism that uses the weight of the drawer contents to open and close. They mount directly to the bottom of the drawer side, and to the inside side of the cabinet.
Why we use this component ?
Easy to install - The slide installation is low in labor, mess-free (no grease) and drawers can be quickly assembled and put together. It's also easier to insert the drawer in the cabinet once assembly is complete;
Smooth and Quiet - Euro slides allow drawers to open and close quietly and smoothly even when the drawer is full of clothes or other accessories.
Durable - Euro slides can support up to 50 lbs and allow us to meet tip-over standards as the drawer opening is smaller but still sufficient for our dressers.
Our Components
Full-Extension Slides
Full-extension slides are practical and sturdier This style of slide provides access to all items stored in the drawer by allowing the drawer to extend all the way to the front edge of the furniture piece. This premium movement solution features a heavyduty roller-bearing system and rolls back and forth smoothly.
They are mainly used in furniture pieces that are not subject to tip-over standards such as filing cabinets, beds with large deep drawers and others.
Why we use this component ?
Practical - A full-extension drawer slide is wonderfully convenient, allowing full access to the drawer with minimal fuss on the user part.
Heavy duty - These drawer slides hold a lot of weight and are heavy-duty enough to withstand being moved around a lot.
Our Components
