SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT POLICY For a healthy community and planet


LEADING THE WAY TO SUSTAINABILITY Since it was founded, South Shore Furniture has ceaselessly evolved and adapted its practices to integrate sustainable development principles. It has acted not only to ensure business success but also to help keep communities safe and healthy and protect the environment.

ACTING NOW FOR THE FUTURE The environmental and societal stakes are greater than ever, so South Shore Furniture is rolling out a multitude of initiatives to encourage sustainable development. The objective: to make all the difference in its workplaces and for the generations of tomorrow.


OUR GREEN COMMITTEE

In 2021, a green committee has been set up to promote sustainable development within the organization and to reduce our environmental footprint. This committee is made up a selection of the company’s employees who take the community and the environment to heart. Together, they are drivers of change who are working assiduously to promote the values of South Shore Furniture.

Their mission Gather ideas for actions that encourage sustainable development that align with the objectives of the company. Implement and encourage projects that put into practice reuse, recycling, green energy, community action and buying local. Promote the internal and external initiatives rolled out by South Shore.


COMMUNITY

Investing in the development of young generations and helping communities while working together with organizations that uphold values similar to those advocated by our company.


Collaborating with the South Shore Furniture Foundation and make the difference for 5,000 people in North America through community initiatives. Monetary and material donations will be distributed throughout the community. Fifty percent will go to organizations that support youth. A minimum of 21 furniture pieces per month will be distributed to people in need.


GOVERNANCE

Promoting sustainable development principles in the company and implementing them in all of our facilities.


Create an environmental management plan for all of our workplaces that meets or exceeds the regulations currently in effect.

Guarantee an inclusive workplace where difference and diversity are warmly welcomed.

A minimum of one awareness activity will be carried out each quarter.

Promote physical and mental health and safety and eliminate workplace accidents.

A minimum of one awareness activity will be carried out each quarter.

Collaborate with and develop business relationships with ethical, responsible suppliers that provide their employees with safe work environments.

All suppliers of imported products will have to follow a code of ethical conduct and offer their employees safe and secure workplaces. All suppliers of imported products will have to continue to conform with the Lacey Act1.

ENVIRONMENT

Contributing to a greener environment and reducing our environmental footprint to the greatest possible extent.


Improve the management of our waste material in all of our facilities and apply the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Reclaim). The wood board used to manufacture our furniture will be composed of 50% recycled wood. More than 85% of the waste products in our factories will be recycled. Slightly damaged and returned furniture will be redistributed to employees and community organizations.

Develop a new eco-friendly packaging formula that reduces our environmental impact.
