I spent four amazing years here writing house tours and dreaming up DIY projects, then moved on to our sister publication, Food Network Magazine But a magical thing happened a few months ago: A job opened up at HGTV, and I got the chance to return to my roots. Now that I’m back, I feel a lot like I do when I visit my parents at my childhood house I’m filled with all the comfort and joy that comes from being somewhere you love. I feel like I’m home. Nedra’s teens, Jayvon, 16, and Aidan, 14, can hang out here unless Mom’s friends are over for happy hour N R G henever Nedra Davi s has free time, she spends it decorating and redecorating her house “ I’m constantly swapping things out,” says the nonprofit marketing and communications director and mom of two. “We’re talking every few weeks I’ll change the art or the pillows or the r ugs!” She’s making up for lost time, because before she boug ht thi s 1 ,400 square foot brick townhouse in B ow i e , M D, she was a rente r “ I was i n my las t renta l for s ix years and didn’ t even experiment with paint because in my head, it wasn ’ t mine,” she says When thi s 1991 Colonial hit the market, she found the perfect place to embrace her obsess ion with color and DIY projects. The ow ner had kept the house in meticulous shape, but the style was “uninviting and very, very dark,” Nedra says “All the brow n had to go blue and pink and g reen are my love lang uage!” She transfor med the kitchen with crafty paint hacks and moved throug h the house, brig htening each space and layering in luxe fabrics and funky vintage finds “ My house i s my playg round,” she says And she loves the results...at least for now!

hen Rebecca Simon started planning the makeover of her 1970s Los Angeles townhouse, choos ing a color palette took no time at all.

The rest of her decorating deci s ions didn’ t come as eas ily, thoug h, so she called her s i ster in law, Ashton Eg bert, for help Ashton and her mom, Kathleen Nixon, are des ig ners and were happy to come up with a plan for the 1 ,180 square foot home. I had just enough of this Thibaut wallpaper left over from another project for this room (Thank you, wainscoting, for taking up the bottom third of the walls!) The dining table and chairs are vintage, from my husband’s parents I like pairing old with new, so I brought in the buffet from my shop, Growing Days Home, and a modern chandelier by Kichler There’s almost always a puzzle on this table, unless we’re about to host a dinner or do a photo shoot!

It’s as wide as our king size bed, which I love! bathroom Until recently, this bathroom off our main bedroom was carpeted eww, I know! The new floor tile, by Daltile, is one I used for a project on my show and just had to have for myself I chose different shapes for the wall tiles, but for consistency, everything is Carrara marble I laid a lot of these tiles myself with help from my kids
