You will need

ł natural pampas fronds ł hand dye, such as Dylon or Rit ł rubber gloves ł buckets

1Create an area where the fronds can hang upside down to drip after they’ve been dyed. These drips will stain surfaces so it’s best if you can find a place outdoors. If you don’t have a garden or balcony, place a bucket under each frond to catch the drops.

2Put on your rubber gloves then prepare your chosen dye according to the packet instructions. It’s best to do this in a bucket or a stainless-steel sink.

3Dip the damp fronds into the dye bath. Rotate them to ensure the fluffy tips get completely covered.

4Leave the fronds submerged for 30 minutes so that the dye has a chance to absorb into the pampas.

5Take the fronds out of the dye bath and place them into an empty bucket. This will help you to transport them. Then hang each one to dry. This can take up to a week.

6To speed up the drying process you can use a hair dryer on a low to medium heat. It’s sensible to wait until the fronds have stopped dripping before you do this, as the spray will dye. To be on the safe side, direct the stream of air downwards onto a dust sheet.

7Once dry, it’s time to fluff up your fronds. Start by gently teasing them apart with your fingers, then use the hairdryer to give them a final flourish to make them as splendid as possible!
