In the next issue we shall learn about colors of the Aura.
Chant the Maha-Mirtunjay Bij Mantra instead of MahaMirtunjay Mantra only if there is a difficulty in chanting MahaMirtunjay Mantra. Starting from any good day any of the above mantras is to be chanted 36000 times in front of an energized and sanctified Maha-Mirtunjay Yantra. Males must complete it within 42 days and females must complete it in around 21 to 24 days in-between their two monthly cycle which is their clear days.

Leading with Spirituality 5 - Dr. Amit Nagpal
January 2011
Developing Intuition for right decisions Albert Camu says, “Man is the only creature that refuses to be what he is.” The universe is ready to provide limitless information, which we can receive at conscious and unconscious levels in various ways. We may receive information through our senses, intuition and divine but we build barriers and refuse to be what we can be. What are the barriers which stop the natural flow of this information? Are these barriers internal or external? How do we break these barriers? These are some of the questions which come to our mind as we grapple to use our intuition to make decisions. As we develop our intuitive abilities, we must struggle with forces such as fear, negativity, stress and lack of faith in higher consciousness, which act as barriers. The best tool we can use to break and destroy these barriers is spirituality. Once we are able to do that our decision making (one of the most critical skills for leadership) becomes very easy and natural. In the beginning of our spiritual journey, more and more questions arise in our mind, and as we progress we receive few hints at answers which later on become complete answers and over a period of time a strong sense of intuition starts emerging, which starts replacing intelligence. Intuition is defined as the direct experiencing of truth without any reasoning or perception. Intuition is a higher Knowledge and being a spiritual gift, it is full of vitality and inspiration. It enables us to get an answer in a matter of seconds which may otherwise take months, years, decades or even a lifetime. All insights that we get are not intuitive and they can come from other sources such as instinct, feeling, thinking, interpretation or association. When it is intuition you know why it happens, what the reason is, what you are learning,
what is its use, what is possible and what is not? If you have no immediate answers to this then probably you are dealing with sources other than intuition. Instinct is a lower intuitive form based on history. Feeling is a kind of an inner urge to do something based on subconscious. Thinking is based on rationality and what others have taught you. Interpretation is when you think you know what the situation or the other person means. Association is the emotional baggage of the past. Intuition occurs beyond the rational mind and senses in certain level of our consciousness. As one learns to still the mind through observation, contemplation, breath and focused meditation, one develops a level of consciousness which is more open to intuition and sixth sense perception. Intuition does not really merely bring an addition to the five senses, but rather an intensification of all the five senses. Spirituality is an inner knowing and you need to be intuitive to be spiritual. The most important spiritual tool is meditation and learning to live in moment is the simplest form of meditation. Unfortunately due to noise of the modern world, living in the moment is hard to do. One can practice to live in the moment by continually paying attention to the energy one sends into the universe. More often than we would like, the energy from our primitive ego is negative even though our conscious intention is to be compassionate. Albert Einstein says, “The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will and the solution comes to you and you don't know how or why.” The more time you spend with yourself, your intuition increases. Meditation helps center,

focus and align oneself to higher energies and awareness states. When you allow yourself to step out of your mind now and again, you become more open and conscious human being. Rumi says, “Go within; hear the story of sunrise from the Sun itself.” Once you are firmly connected with the Divine within you, you can readily access your spiritual abilities or develop new ones. Initially it is a one off experience but with more practice the blissful state can be achieved within minutes of focus. Patience and perseverance are necessary besides detachment with results. It is critical to detach with the results, because when one follows or does certain spiritual deeds for the want of a result, the result evades. Jansenius says; “Intuition is Energies which need to be nurtured and educated.” Acting our intuition develops our intuition and first of all we need to trust our intuition. In a way intuition is nothing but guidance from the divine. The more we consciously connect with our surroundings and pay attention to the 'still small voice within' the more we will be able to develop our intuition. Deepak Chopra sums it up perfectly, “The soul is observer, knower, creator, visionary and divine simultaneously.” Edgar Cayce says, “Depend more upon the intuitive forces from within and not hearken so much to that of the outside influences, but learn to listen.” The way to sharpen intuition is the same as any other skill. Access it frequently and do it playfully. Using intuition with a sense of gratitude encourages the Universe to continue making suggestions. Higher
Leading with Spirituality 5 - Dr. Amit Nagpal consciousness has always been trying to communicate with us; it's just that we seldom took the call. Active Imagination, (a technique developed by Carl Jung in the early 20th century) is an excellent technique for improving communication with the Higher Consciousness. Intuition has to be followed by action otherwise it will only become a cause for suffering. We need to recognize and acknowledge that a spirit world exists to guide us. Sometimes one gets messages in the form of visual symbols or pictures and sometimes it tells you what is about to happen. Another theory is Morphic Resonance by Rupert Sheldrake which states that all species are interconnected not just by genes but by a field of consciousness that is like a collective memory and to which we can connect directly. Through this resonance, intuition sometimes gives us sudden insights and premonitions and it increases with practice. Another simple technique is to just close your eyes and believe in higher consciousness. If we ask questions in the right state of mind during relaxation and meditation, the insights tend to be intuitive and correct for our higher selves. Or you can go to the fields to connect with Mother Nature. Gratitude is critical and you must start your day by being grateful and start it joyfully as a gift of the Supreme. John Murphy has formulated a simple tool called The Ring of Peace, a four-step, cyclic model that helps raise intuition and consciousness. The four steps are Let Be, Let Go, Let See and Let Flow which are then repeated as a cycle. With Let Be, we live in the moment. We feel gratitude and appreciate silence, meditate, or at least contemplate everything we do. If we fail to 'Let Be' what already is, we live in a state of
anxiety, fear and self-denial. With Let Go, we release all tension, guilt, grief, fear, doubt and ego temptations and barriers. If we fail to 'Let Go', we live in a state of resistance and attachments, meaning we are resisting the natural flow of life by clinging to past memories, subconscious beliefs, etc. These attachments prevent us from feeling free. When we 'Let See', we see the world very differently. Some of the people and things we found annoying earlier now appear to us in different perspective. We experience more meaningful connections and therefore become more creative and playful. This leads to 'Let Flow', a state of being in effortless joy and grace. The more we practice 'The Ring of Peace, the more peace and grace we experience.' Being a spiritual model, The Ring of Peace is holistic in nature. There really is no single most important step and all are actually happening simultaneously when activated. In other words, when we are in flow, we have let be, let go, and let see. We allow flow though it was always there. We all are in bright daylight with a blind fold and to return to our true compassionate nature, the only thing we need to do is to remove the blindfold. If you are at lower level of consciousness, consciousness of fear, right/wrong, then you are unable to experience the spiritual gifts of intuitive abilities. Fear keeps us from experiencing the divine within each of us. You need to drop all expectations, attachment and cultural traditions to free the truth to appear. People who tend to train their intuition will notice that some substances also block their development for example, alcohol, soft and hard drugs, certain medicines, and so on. For those who already have a strong intuition, they can advance further with the help of

The Sacred Threshold - Master Chrism
January 2011
The Sacred Threshold Kundalini is an evolutionary energy that is designed for humanity's next step toward a luminous physical and spiritual expression. The Kundalini is in everyone. It is an untapped resource of divinity within us all that is waiting to be awakened and experienced. Never has the time been so right and crucial for a change of this magnitude to be explored and initiated. Kundalini is a very powerful and transformative energy located at the base of the s p i n e within the last three vertebrae o f t h e tailbone or coccyx, extending t o t h e perineum. Kundalini i s a natural birthright t o a l l people but must be sought and nurtured with a physical and spiritual practice. At-oneness is indeed a simulacrum of the true reality. And as death approaches it is this state that will beckon one to step into the truth of one's existence. Not to say that death is eminent or fast approaching but that it is always there. A hidden gift surrounded by fear, lest people abandon the lessons too soon. You are, we are, all at oneness with each other and all creation. All the time without knowing it, we wear blinders and follow straight and narrow paths that we may focus on the tasks at hand. Paths that will lead us onwards towards a sacred and divine companionship such as the Kundalini.
8
An individual must complete some lessons before that however. Nobody is excluded from this process except as their own self dictates. These lessons are similar and different for each person. Some helpful areas of expression during these lessons are: Being an excellent parent and lover and productive in the societal responsibilities. Being helpful and harmless towards ones fellow creatures or as John Muir put it, being kind to all fellow mortals It is uncommon for one to be guided into evil and hurtful situations but this does occur sometimes as petty tyrants help others to burn the dross from their souls faster then others who aren't put into that kind of pressure and so a petty tyrant will serve a purpose. And the petty tyrant will receive that service another time. We take turns helping each other in the All that Is. Karma will ask this of us. As a soul reaches a certain level in the course work, one is exposed to higher and higher states of being. Higher and lower are only serving as a reference in this limited physical reality for organizing these concepts in a way that is recognizable for you here and now. As one reaches these areas a great thirst for knowledge ensues and is forever incorruptible in its never ending search for the well springs and ambrosia of divine truth and love. As these doors open for you so too must you open your doors to it. Complete surrender to these forces of oneness is the lesson and the reward. As you begin to see outside your fears of the unknown and reach

Financial Healing – Erik Cornish
Financial Healing The evolution of Financial Healer is a process that has taken many years. I originally started as an accountant, then moved into finance broking, which involved spending many hours working with individuals and small businesses putting together finance applications; and even in those days I was surprised at how many people were quite happily living beyond their means, funding the shortfall between income and expenditure by charging expenses to credit cards. This process worked while the credit cards kept extending lines of credit and house prices were consistently rising so they could remortgage from time to time to clear the credit cards, but it was clear to me that this was unsustainable, and that the behaviour was being driven by something other than clear thinking. I had been meditating for many years, and regularly attended weekend workshops on guided meditation and had always been looking for a way to bring the spiritual life into the physical dimensions and in particular into the world of finance. My wife had died of cancer in 1999, and in 2005 I had been doing some volunteer work at a complementary cancer clinic near Bristol in the UK, and I found myself in a meeting sitting next to a lady who was the Regional Training Officer for the National Federation of Spiritual Healers, now the Healing Trust. She convinced me that I could make a good healer, and having completed the two year training course in 2008; I realized the best way to use my new found skills was to combine the financial background with the healing skills and set up Financial Healer in January 2009. I quickly trained in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and the derivative from that, Matrix Re-imprinting, and started working with clients. It very soon became clear that everyone I worked with had the following problems: The issues behind financial meltdown stemmed from ideas about money picked up from parents in childhood. It is essential to deal with the financial problem at the same time as looking at the spiritual issues behind the problem. In every case the solar plexus chakra was seriously knotted with worry and in many cases the heart chakra was showing abnormal coloration and distress. In the majority of cases at some point in the healing experience the client would say, “I never wanted to be a …., I always wanted to be a ….” This is the key turning point and this is the stage where left brain comes back into play and I work out a financial strategy to get them to where they can express the soul purpose within them. Using the Matrix Re-imprinting techniques evolved in the UK by Karl Dawson over the last few years it is

possible to change the movie which runs in the subconscious and will continually sabotage any attempts to change the outer life. Until the inner life is changed, and the processes in the sub-conscious which control over 90% of the thinking process are rewired, the outer life will go through the same play but against different scenery. My basic meditation technique is one learned from the Ishayas, and the key text we work with is the Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali. The key Sutra which is driving this whole exercise is Pada 2, Sutra 38: “The ultimate act of healing others is a spontaneous flow of energy from the infinite into the finite boundaries of their minds and hearts”. If the work I am doing here can just help one person to find their soul purpose and express the divine within, then I am a happy healer! Here are few case studies: 'AS' is a very likeable guy in his 50's with an MBA and a positive work attitude, but has always been in trouble financially and has been bankrupt. We started working with the 'Inner beliefs about money' guided meditation, and this showed his inner 'garden of beliefs' to be completely barren and resembling a bomb site. We did some repair work to put positive and vibrant energy there and then discussed how far back he could sense this feeling of desolation. This went right back to childhood and in particular to the relationship with his mother. He had an elder brother who was very clever and his mother would always tell him he would never be as successful as his brother. This message stuck with him at the sub-conscious level and this clearly sabotaged his attempts at financial development. We then used the 'Healing the family tree' meditation which looks at the soul connecting with parents and discovered he had a memory of a school end-of-term evening in front of all his classmates and teachers and parents where he thought he had done a superb rendition of a poem, but everybody laughed at him. He ran off the stage and went into the ante-room where he poured himself a drink, but the assistant head teacher found him there and slapped him hard. The effect of being ridiculed and then being slapped caused enormous emotional stress that locked in at a cellular level. We did a 'Matrix re-imprinting' session to replace the traumas of that day, and then started a chakra balancing session to clear negative energies. During that session I noticed a black angel in his heart chakra and was told that it had been there for a long time and needed to be removed. We worked on that with help from higher beings, and during the next session started work on a business plan which

Financial Healing – Erik Cornish would get him to where he wanted to be in this life. 'LF' is a mature lady who originally was referred to me with a credit card problem, which was exacerbated as she was being treated for cancer at the time. Again the inner beliefs around money showed a barren wasteland covered with weeds, so having cleared that we looked back at her early years, and I was amazed when she told me that her mother never wanted a daughter, and it was only when she went to school at the age of 5 that she discovered that her name wasn't actually Bob. We worked again with the 'Healing the family tree' technique, and this brought up a memory of being in the womb and not being wanted. We then did the 'Matrix re-imprinting' technique from the moment of birth, when she chose many friends and respected figures, including Jesus and the Dalai Lama, who were all sitting round eating coffee ice cream! She started feeling much better about herself from that point on, so we looked into what is happening on her cancer journey. The big issue at that time was whether or not to continue with Tamoxifen treatment for the cancer. We did an inner journey around this, and she saw a raft loaded with boxes of Tamoxifen floating down a river, so she decided to discuss with her Oncologist whether or not to continue with this treatment. We then looked at her career and she was aware that everything she had done had been based on trying to win her mother's love and affection. Hence, we did a meditation to draw down her future self and create a career she would want for herself. She remembered she had always wanted to work as a sculptor but had been told by teachers and family that this would be impossible, but we have now produced a business plan to get her to where she wants to be with this project. 'AB' is a delightful young lady, but had just been through a difficult divorce and had financial challenges when I first met her. Her bank told her they wouldn't allow her to raise money on her house to clear her husband's share of the property, but I was able to find a lender who would do this. We set this in motion and then started on the emotional clearance work to clear all the emotional trauma of the divorce and what had been going on in the marriage. As the emotions around the marriage cleared we became aware of a deeper level of healing required around the relationship with her father. He had been a very successful lawyer and insisted his daughter should also study law. She took a law degree and did her best, but it never worked out and when I met her she was working for a relatively modest wage for a charity. During a guided meditation she stated that she wanted to do a course which would enable
her to study a form of psychology based on Buddhist principles, which suited her as a practicing Buddhist. I called the new mortgage lender and arranged for her to have a line of credit which she could draw down at the start of each term, and she is now working on the first term of this course. We then had a session on fears about money, and produced a budget for the year which would cover all her running costs and enabled her to have a holiday with her daughter. We have a process where she now looks forward to opening the bank statements instead of leaving them unopened in a pile, as she can measure her own financial success. The last time I called her to book a session she said she didn't need one as everything is going so well! Erik Cornish Financial Healer +44 7932 654519 www.financialhealer.org.uk

That's how it comes to me as a fraction of my Shaktipat experience that can be told or touched upon with words.
Love & The Divine Current - Master Chrism
January 2011
Love The foundation for all matter is love. For all spirit and for all consciousness and for all physical expression. It is the only expression. All life and all existence is a condition of this principle. As we are behind the veil and the forces of life and the stresses of civilization interrupt our vision, we experience love through a very limited range. Yet even in our blindness and hardships love is a beacon that will illuminate our path if we will only choose to acknowledge its force and live by its integrity. Our bodies down to the cellular and sub-atomic levels are compact communities of love. Every cell is living this truth when it undergoes its duplication and initiates its function. There are approximately 7 trillion cells in the average human body. All living in agreement with one another. Working towards the same goal. There are many more cells in one human being then the total population on this Earth. Living in harmony. Living the integrity of love. As the bladder works with the kidneys and the lungs work with the heart, the stomach with the intestines all work in a distinct and collaborative effort to keep us alive. The gift of life is from love. The force that binds our communities of cells into complete and distinct individuals is love. Strength, courage, forgiveness, compassion, gratitude, joy, abundance, honesty, and trust are just some of the facets of this binding pro-creative spiritual force. When the Kundalini is activated and awakened this love is amplified into its abundant, outside our veil of typical expression and understanding and strength. An evidence of its amplified connection through the veils of our reality into our physical bodies is its high voltage emotional discharge that is quite beautiful and profound in its experience. This brings the Bliss and the Ecstasy. These are the qualities of love. Surges of love flowing and exploding, encapsulating, healing and extending into every place sacred and dear to us. Our hatreds and shames, judgments and brutalities are no match for this sacred divine essence. It will cleanse and heal our relationship to others and ourselves. It will vivify the divine seed that is within our heart and impregnate our entire being with its divine imperative. Even if you have never considered yourself a spiritual person, life begins to take on a completely new focus for you. Service to others and love, in its myriad forms, takes priority. This is what we are striving for.
The Divine Current In truth within our limited unawakened form we are able to appreciate only a fraction of the Absolute. With Kundalini however that appreciation is increased tremendously compared to the unawakened state. Divinity has no such restrictions. As we are molded from the divine and yet entangled into believing we are not so; are we allowed to rediscover that which is ours already? Kundalini allows this to be experienced on tactile levels as well as all the other levels within its purview. The absolute IS! It is what you see all around you and what you are at your core. It is as in the song that was given for me to share: See love in all things. All things mean all creation. Shakti Kundalini is as a manifestation of the overt divine current into the grossly physical systems. The physical will need to come into a degree of frequency for this to occur. When a spirit takes a body the body is in fact designed specifically for that spirit from the divine current. Through this design certain variables are given into the construction of the body and these variables are the spiritual properties of soul evolution of the being that is going to occupy that body. This is where Karma comes into the picture. As the body is developed and the evolutionary values (karma) are added to it the determination of the ability or not of the ensouled individual attaining the manifestation of the divine current (Kundalini) while in the body is made. Through this determination the pattern of probability is offered to the degree that the soul's evolutionary values will respond to specific choices made by the individual towards specific frequencies of interactive manifestation to the divine current that is flowing around and within all creation. From these parameters, unique for each person, is the divine current communicated with in the ways specific to each individual. From these choices based upon the initial prerogative of the ensouled individual are choices offered and consequences given that allow for us to evolve in the body as we make choices that are conducive towards this development. Kundalini is a threshold event where choices have been made that allow for a complete transformation of all of the frequencies housed within the human expressive envelope. Everything is changed to specific degree that is once again unique to the individual, and yet expressive of what Kundalini does to the body. Kundalini is our overt and conscious interwoven communication and interaction with the absolute. The exaltation of the flesh through spiritual evolution. We swim in the divine current rather than blindly walk through its puddles. In serving the Kundalini we are in actuality serving the divine current for its expression through us.

Spiritual Awakening and Journeying with the Runes
January 2011
Spiritual Awakening and Journeying with the Runes The runic method of divination entails placing the individual's present conditions or elements against the context of an overall spiritual journey. The runes are generally classified into three segments or 'aetts', each containing 8 runes symbolizing a progressive step in the spiritual odyssey, which culminates in true maturity. At each step of the journey the traveler, who is the person using the runes for spiritual development, encounters obstacles, receives gifts, and learns vital lessons as he moves from one level to another, one 'aett' to another. The first 'aett' stands for ' D i v i n e Creation', the second for 'Evil' and the third for 'Divinity'. A person begins his life from the first 'aett' and gradually grows on to the second and third, signifying his spiritual development. This journey is also called ' f u p a r k ' (pronounced futhark). As with every spiritual journey, the first 'aett' begins with the awakening, the desire to know what lies beyond. A desire to seek beyond material possessions. Every 'aett' is a journey within a journey, like chapters of a book; and at the end of each 'aett', although you have completed one chapter or section‌the book still remains to be completed. Each new 'aett' marks a beginning and an end, the end of one pattern, but also the beginning of a new higher understanding. With every positive lesson, as we know well, comes some form of negativity first. So as you graduate from one level to another, you will find yourself many a time in a fury of emotions, good and bad, sometimes even violent. It must be remembered that these are the lessons and until we learn to take control and break out of recurring patterns, the pattern will continue to occur, each time with greater intensity, until we consciously break out of it. When you complete the last 'rune' in the third 'aett', it not only completes the smaller cycle of the third aett, but also brings you back to the beginning of the entire journey itself. The aett order acts as a metaphor for the spiritual
14
journey, much like the Major Arcana of the Tarot; the Runes represent a circle, always returning to the journey's beginning, but returning as a different person, from a different place. Through each Aett we face challenges and lessons that assist in our spiritual evolution. Each Aett represents a stage of the hero's journey. The first Aett is the beginning, in which we come to realize we have a calling, the old life has become intolerable or we are forced to seek change for whatever reason, and so we finally set out into the wild. We are preparing for initiation: learning all we c a n , encountering allies and e n e m i e s , experiencing love and joy in a new way as we walk along the path. We begin to become aware of our power to affect change; we have our first true connection with Deity, and actually start to listen. The second Aett is the initiatory experience itself. Often deep transformation is brought on by hardship or loss, and the Aett begins with Hagalaz, Hail, and destruction. We can see this as a tragedy or an opportunity, but the greatest challenge is yet to come: death and rebirth, a necessary part of any true initiation. In the third Aett we must learn to apply what we have learned to our daily lives and our interactions with others. We see from the beginning that we have come through a battle wounded but stronger for it, and now face a new beginning and a new relationship with humanity as a whole and with ourselves. Finally we return ostensibly to where we started, to home life and family, but we have changed at our core, so nothing can ever be quite like it was. Then the entire spiral turns around again, and eventually we leave home again, to face a new adventure back at the beginning of the first Aett. This journey thus enriches you with the spirit energies and helps you to achieve higher spiritual goals staying in the material physical world. Such is the wonder of the Runic Journey. Faith, Writing and Living an Holistic Life - Linzi Martin
January 2011
Faith, Writing and Living an Holistic Life I was keen to meet Peter Owen-Jones, the BBC television presenting Priest from East Sussex (UK). He's the well know face of the BBC television documentaries - Around the World in 80 Faiths, How to Live a Simple Life, Taking Advice from St Francis of Assisi, The Lost Gospel and The Extreme Pilgrim. These programmes had quite an impact on me, apart from their informative nature, of questioning what was my own faith? Did I even had any? Who I was and what I was offering the world?
that take an holistic view. Perhaps the best one is the Jains of India (see footnote). For an holistic life one cannot live it until you embrace the sacredness of all life, then perhaps you might stand a chance of having a much more holistic lifestyle than we would have had otherwise. Linzi - You write in a very eloquent, descriptive and passionate way. Do you find that writing is a one way to find God, to connect with that essence? Peter When w e write w e f i n d o u r voice. All of u s have a voice wheth er that i s within carpen t r y , plumb i n g , perfor ming, singing, writing. It is our essential voice that speaks through what we do and that's a different voice to the one which we crash around in our daily lives. I, as a Priest, the voice that I found was that Priestly voice within me. Hopefully after 52 years if I'd been a carpenter I would have produced things of great quality which would speak of my passion and commitment to that particular art.
During t h e autumn of 2 0 1 0 Peter was speaking a t a festival that I was attending so I had taken the opportuni t y t o contact him in advance to ask if I m a y interview him after his talk. I listened to him reading extracts and answering questions from his book, Letters from an Extreme Pilgrim, Reflections on Life, Love and the Soul. In this he describes living an austere life as a Chinese Buddhist monk, a Christian monk and an Indian ascetic. Peter spoke from the heart in a passionate and honest way. He provoked my thoughts, questioned my idea of faith and intrigued me to where this 'spiritual adventurer' would cast his Linzi - For you then is it through writing? weathered hat next. Peter - Yes, that's my thing, that's where I find my Before we settled into the interview Peter had a little voice. We all have our own voice within us. That is Priestly duty to do. The parents of a young child when work becomes sacred, in that sense, when we are wanted him blessed so Peter obliged and I, along with essentially doing work for the beauty of itself and for the parents, placed gentle, reassuring hands onto the the joy we will give others, that's when something young boy while Peter spoke the blessing. It was a beautiful happens. little magical moment. The interview took place Linzi - From your world-wide travels and within a rustic farm shed building. existing/staying within some challenging Linzi - Do you think a strong faith goes hand in hand environments you have met people from all faiths and spiritual beliefs. Even when there is little physical with living a more holistic or healthier life? Peter - It depends on the faith. There are not many comfort afforded would you say that having a spiritual
15
Faith, Writing and Living an Holistic Life- Linzi Martin connection helps people to survive and thrive? Peter - I would personally say that spiritual comfort is a state of mind. It is not about physical things, it is about where you are mentally. You can be in a crowd, on a train in India or stuck in a cave somewhere. It's whether YOU are comfortable, not whether IT is comfortable. If YOU are comfortable then YOU WILL BE comfortable there. Having a faith in some ways can be a great defence against the realities of the world. That is when I think faith is at its' worst, when you are invited into a box, to adhere to certain rules so that you don't have to actually recognise your fragility, your own beauty. All you have to do is accept these rules and you will be saved. That I don't think is faith, I think it is prison. Faith which I think helps people survive is the faith of Love. It is the only faith that will help anyone survive in any adversity. If you have love in the face of adversity then that will help you survive. Linzi - Yes, a very powerful message. Linzi - Is there an ideal spiritual life? After some moments of thoughtful pause, Peter answered. Peter - I think a spiritual life is allowing oneself the process of becoming more and more vulnerable. Not to see the mask of strength that's ever going to rescue us from any situation. To be able to take that mask off and be vulnerable, sensitive, feeling human beings, that all of us are. Most of us choose to hid behind masks of strength, me included. In that sense if a religion is offering that path, if a religion is promising to make you stronger then I would not touch it with a 'bargepole' (meaning = keeping it at a very long distance away). If it promises to make you more vulnerable, more fragile, to make you more aware, to open you - that's always painful. Then I might have a look at that one (religion). Linzi - Thank you Peter, I appreciate your time. I believe you are off again filming, flying off this very afternoon, we look forward to that programme. The essence of Jainism is concern for the welfare of every being in the universe and for the health of the universe itself. Jains believe that animals and plants, as well as human beings, contain living souls. Each of these souls is considered of equal value and should be treated with respect and compassion. Jainism is a religion of self-help. There are no gods or spiritual beings that will help human beings. Jainism has no priests. Its professional religious people are monks and nuns, who lead strict and ascetic lives.

Kells, a stunning round tower that was built for protection against the Vikings, still remains, as does part of the original monastery where the Book of Kells was created over a thousand years ago. The book is now housed in Trinity College Dublin. Ireland's cities are ancient monuments in themselves. The archaic, narrow streets of Waterford follow a map begun by Norsemen over a thousand years
ago, while Dublin is an older Viking settlement than either Stockholm or Oslo. The arrival of the Normans in the 12th century transformed the Irish landscape. You can't go far without seeing a castle in Ireland. Castles Trim Castle in County Meath. The largest and most important castle in Ireland for several centuries, its garrison of Anglo Normans watched over the 'dangerous natives', and took
every precaution to ensure the castle was seriously unwelcoming. Uninvited guests were treated to boiling water, tar, arrows, rocks, and other early weapons of mass destruction rained down on them from overhead. Dunluce Castle in County Antrim. The spectacular castle-crowned crag, on the famous north Antrim coast, was shaped when the sea cut deep into the rock. Dunluce Castle, originally occupied by the MacQuillan family and later the MacDonnell's, was besieged by the British in the 16th

Century. It's reputed to be the inspiration for Cair Paravel, the famous castle in CS Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia. Fifty miles southwest of Trim lies the village of Clareen, home to Leap Castle, what is reputed to be the most haunted castle in Ireland. It has guarded the pass from Slieve Bloom into Munster since the 14th century, and its spectre is a particularly smelly one it was even witnessed by poet WB Yeats on a stay in the castle. Birr Castle was a seat of the O'Carrolls, who was outlawed in 1 6 2 0 . T h e gardens are a real draw with one of the greatest displays of magnolia in the country. Flowers aside, the massive telescope in the castle is its main claim to fame, built in 1 8 2 5 t h e telescope was the biggest in the world until 1917. Relaxing into Meditation By Ngakma Nor'dzin
Aro Books Worldwide Pvt Ltd
As a Buddhist teacher and a community education tutor Ngakma Nor'dzin has been teaching meditation for long. The book Relaxing into Meditation has been the product of all the years of teaching. The book is a no-frills, 'How to' guide to meditation that looks at a typical group meditation scenario. Nor'dzin starts of with the techniques, which allow the students to arrive at a starting point to meditation. There are chapters on the best position for meditation, the technique of breathing with alternate nostril, the skill of just 'listening in', the essential breathing patterns and the actual posture while meditating etc. Nor'dzin also makes a special mention of singing that the students should undertake in a group. She says, “Our voices are an energetic aspect of who we are. The sounds we make are 'material' in that they affect our senses, but their 'materiality' is intangible. Our voice is the intangible and energetic link between our mind and our body – between our insubstantial being and our substantial being. Practices using the voice help us become keenly aware of the power of this energetic communication.” She would advise practitioners to look at singing as a tool to relaxation, to let go of their inhibitions that might hold some back. The book also carries a gentle warning against sitting in a room with incense sticks burning when the students are engaging in breathing exercises. The resulting deeper breaths will mean smoke is inhaled deeply into the lungs and will lead to coughing. For today's several New Age enthusiasts who are more concerned about the props that accompany any such practice, this advice should come handy. Nor'dzin's writing is practical and, as she takes you through the steps, all of it seems like the most natural thing to do. I particularly liked the chapter on 'Walking Meditation' which is not very

commonly known and which uses the physical process of walking as the focus instead of the breath. Another interesting concept is the meditation that involves analytical contemplation and visualisation. It involves dwelling on a subject and attempting to deeply penetrate the essence of that subject in order to discover our preconceptions, our prejudices and our habitual views. The meditation 'Friend, Enemy, Stranger' looks at our concepts and feelings around people we like, people we do not get along with, and people with whom we have no personal connection. Writes Nor'dzin, “Our view is the basis of all our expectations of life, our interpretations of circumstances, and our responses to the experiences we encounter in our lives. Our view governs how we are as people in the world and causes us to create an inter-penetrating network of reference points.” She claims that this type of meditation will offer us an opportunity to look at our entrenched viewpoints and can unlock our previously closely held points of view. The book also explains how meditation helps us discover that there are qualities and aspects of our lives that are not as we would wish them to be. When we begin to meditate daily, they often seem to show up suddenly, but the fact of the matter is that they have always been there and it is now that we are becoming aware of them. Visualization techniques help us to cleanse ourselves of them and eventually get rid of them to embrace more enlightened attitudes and conduct. Nor'dzin's approach is simple and direct. Along with a short glossary of terms explained, she gives illustrated tips on making sitting equipment for the practice. Her line drawings explaining the postures have more of a utilitarian rather than an aesthetic value. The book, on the whole, seems rather unadorned but it's friendly, down to earth and, most importantly, useful.
