RESIDENT at the best Italian parties and certainly having whet the appetite of the best Ibiza clubs in the last few years, Remo has hardly been waiting in the wings of the international club scene, yet now is truly the time for him to step into the spotlight in his role as one of Italy’s most important and influential DJs and producers. For it’s through playing all of Italy’s major clubs as well as at other worldwide parties that Remo has refined both his dark electronic style and his empathic relationship with the audience on the dancefloor; a symbiosis of emotion and experimentation that he is now distilling in the studio and his Lilith label. At the core of all Remo’s music is a sound based on melody which combines different influences and genres to create a style capable of crossing boundaries. Building on this experience and Remo’s ongoing research into new DJ and production technologies, combined with his classical piano training, the Lilith label is a place where different sounds, styles and memories exist in harmony, connected by a creative path free of clichés and the need to explore new territories and communicate unique feelings. Based upon Remo’s belief that “Fine Art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together”, words which guide not just his music but his entire life.

It was a struggle at first but my passion and belief in the music that I signed gave me the confidence to make Cr2 the world-renowned label it is today. I am passionate about breaking and developing new artists, which is the ethos of my label. To say that I have been able to help amazing artists such as Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, Fedde Le Grand, Chuckie and others launch their careers makes what I do worth the effort. Passion is the driving force behind my whole career and all the music I have ever made. I can honestly say that without passion and hard work I would not be where I am today.”

WHEN SHE’S NOT IN THE STUDIO PRODUCING OR REMIXING TRACKS BY THE GREATEST TALENTS IN THE BUSINESS, SHE’S SCOOTING OFF AROUND THE WORLD TO SHOW PEOPLE WHAT SHE’S MADE OF BEHIND THE DECKS. NOT THAT WE NEED MUCH CONVINCING REALLY, HER RECENT PERFORMANCE AT SPACE IBIZA LEFT US IN NO DOUBT AS TO THE POWER OF THE GIRL FROM LONDON. PRODUCTIONS, POTENTIAL AND TALENT- SHE’S GOT THEM ALL COMING OUT OF HER EARS. WE DRAGGED HER AWAY TO A ZEN PLACE TO TALK ABOUT HER LOVES AND PASSIONS… MAYA! AT LAST! You’re a busy little bee… and one that I saw in action at Kehakuma recently. How was it for you? Kehakuma’s been a great introduction to playing at Space. I’ve played a few small gigs on the island in the past but Kehakuma’s been my first experience playing at one of the bigger parties. The crowd’s been really cool and receptive and something about the club still feels a little intimate even though it’s so big which is nice. // You don’t half smash it on the remix front, Mrs. I’m picturing you in a studio surrounded by every gadget imaginable in order to produce such impressive results. Is there a particular piece of technology that turns on your inner nerd? Hmm I’m really not a tech nerd at all… I like the simple things when making music. I’m a real geek when it comes to perfecting my sound, but just give me a computer with Logic, a mic, keyboard and bass guitar and that’ll keep me happy for a long, long time. I mixed my tracks on cheap hi-fi speakers and headphones for the first 6 years of making music at home. No one noticed!! // So, summer in full swing, Maya on a roll. What’s been the highlight so far for you? I’d say visiting friends and family in Japan has been a huge highlight. It had been a couple of years since I’d been and it’s my favourite place outside the UK so it was nice to actually have a bit of chill time. The last 10 months has been so manic, I think I really needed it! // A manic ten months you say... Talk us through it. I’m currently working on my album and also working on my first couple of production jobs for major labels. Producing for other bands and singers is something I’ve always wanted to do so I’m excited to finally be exploring this avenue on a larger scale. I want people to see all the different sides of what I do and gain more listeners from outside of the electronic scene. Certain stuff I do in one project might not appeal to certain followers of my other projects and so on, but what I do is so diverse I want there to be something for everyone to like. I get too bored sticking to just one sound. // And taking it forward, what are your plans? I guess now it’s showing people what I can do outside of club music. I mean people know I make music outside of that, but I want people to really see all the different sides to what I do. I want my music to be universal and reach out to people far beyond the electronic scene. Well that’s my aim anyway. I’m influenced by so many different kinds of music, and I guess that is reflected in my productions. // Anybody you haven’t worked with yet that you would like to work with? Thom Yorke and Erykah Badu. Together on one track. Now that would be sick… // THE QUICKIES // A piece of music you couldn’t live without. Lamb - Cotton Wool (Fila Brazilia Remix). // The first record you ever bought? I remember getting my mum to buy me a couple of Now compilations and a 7” of a Dub/Jungle tune I heard at the fun fair when I was really young, but I think the first ever album I bought myself was Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP. // A song you know all the words to? Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On. // Your favourite producer/DJ/artist There are too many! But Trentemoller has always been a big inspiration when it comes to electronic music. I remember around the time his really early releases came out I had just started getting into House and Techno. His productions amazed me and really turned me on to that kind of music. // A cause you are passionate about. Equality, human rights. // An artist you strive to be like. // I only wanna be myself. // Your favourite thing about you. My ability to be in two places at once. // Passion is…’Til you die.

NO ES QUE NECESITEMOS MUCHO PARA CONVENCERNOS REALMENTE; SU RECIENTE PERFORMANCE EN KEHAKUMA IBIZA NO NOS DEJA LUGAR A DUDAS SOBRE EL PODER, EL POTENCIAL Y EL TALENTO QUE POSEE ESTA CHICA DE LONDRES – LE SALE POR LAS OREJAS. NOS LA LLEVAMOS A RASTRAS A UN LUGAR ZEN PARA HABLAR DE SUS AMORES Y SUS PASIONES… ¡POR FIN MAYA! Eres una abeja obrera un poco ocupada… y me he dado cuenta de esto viéndote en acción en Kehakuma recientemente. ¿Cómo ha sido esto para ti? Kehakuma ha sido una gran introducción para pinchar en Space. Hice algunas pequeñas actuaciones en el pasado en la isla, pero Kehakuma ha sido mi primera experiencia pinchando en una de las mayores fiestas de Ibiza. El público ha sido realmente guay y receptivo, y el club tiene algo que me hizo sentir en un ambiente todavía más íntimo, aunque es tan grande que mola. // Nunca haces una mala mezcla, querida, te imagino en un estudio rodeada de todos los gadgets inimaginables con el fin de producir resultados impresionantes. ¿Existe alguna pieza tecnológica particular que te vuelva un gurú de todo esto?

Hmm…Yo no soy realmente una gurú de la tecnología… Me gustan las cosas simples cuando hago música. Soy una geek cuando tengo que perfeccionar mi sonido, pero tú dame un ordenador con el Logic, un micro, un teclado y un bajo y me haces feliz un buen rato. Los primeros 6 años que estuve haciendo música en casa mezclé mis canciones con unos altavoces hi-fi y unos cascos baratos y ¡Nadie se dio cuenta! // Verano en pleno apogeo, Maya sobre ruedas. ¿Qué ha sido, para ti, lo más destacado hasta el momento? Yo diría que visitar a los amigos y a la familia en Japón ha sido algo realmente importante. Ya hace un par de años desde la última vez que estuve, y es mi lugar favorito fuera del Reino Unido, así que estuvo bien tener un poquito de tiempo frío en esta época en la que estamos. Los últimos 10 meses han sido tan frenéticos, ¡Creo que realmente lo necesitaba! // 10 meses frenéticos has dicho… Háblanos de ello. Actualmente estoy trabajando en mi álbum y también en mi primer par de producciones para grandes sellos discográficos. Producir para otras bandas y cantantes es algo que siempre he querido, así que estoy emocionada por estar explorando esta avenida a gran escala. Quiero que la gente vea todas las diferentes caras de lo que hago y ganar más oyentes fuera de la escena electrónica. Con ciertas cosas que hago en un proyecto no podría apelar a los seguidores de algunos de mis otros proyectos, y así sucesivamente, porque lo que hago es muy diferente, quiero que haya algo que le guste a cada uno individualmente. Estoy demasiado aburrida de que sea siempre solo un sonido para todos. // Y llevando estos proyectos hacia delante, ¿Cuáles son tus planes? Supongo que ahora es mostrar a la gente lo que puedo hacer fuera de la música club. Me refiero a la gente que sabe hacer música fuera de este mundillo, pero quiero gente que realmente vea todos los diferentes lados de lo que hago. Quiero que mi música sea universal y llegar a la gente mucho más allá de la escena electrónica. Este es mi objetivo sí o sí. Estoy influenciada por diferentes tipos de música y creo que esto se refleja en mis producciones. // ¿Alguien con quien todavía no has trabajado y te gustaría trabajar? Thom York y Erykah Badu. Juntos en un tema.

Recuerdo que mi madre me compró un par de compilaciones Ahora y un 7” de un tema Dub/Jungle que escuché en el parque de atracciones cuando era muy pequeña. CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF ROUND THESE PARTS, THE WORLD DOESN’T ACTUALLY REVOLVE AROUND DANCE AND ELECTRONICA, AND TO PROVE IT, WE INTERVIEWED SAUL HUDSON, A.K.A SLASH, UNDOUBTEDLY ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME. CURRENTLY ON THE ROAD, HE EXPLAINS THAT AFTER HIS CURRENT TOUR FINISHES , HE’LL START WORKING ON HIS NEW ALBUM, DUE FOR RELEASE IN 2012. SO FAR THIS YEAR, HE’S VISITED IBIZA THREE TIMES - AND DRESSED IN MORE THAN JUST HIS BLACK LEATHER TROUSERS. Long live Rock n Roll! Does it really last forever? I suppose so, it depends– you have to pace yourself. // What’s the formula for creating the perfect hit? There is no formula to create a hit that I know of. I think that it’s a magic combination of inspiration, words and melody. // I’ve been to the beach a few times with rockers who’ve remained fully dressed in all their black leather finery right there on the sand, under the sun?! What do you wear on the beach? Do you keep your leathers on? I actually intended to go to Ibiza with nothing but my leathers but my wife talked me into bringing some shorts. // At a recent fancy dress party, my partner-in-crime dressed up as Slash. Who would you dress up as? I’d dress up as me too! // Talk to us about love and passion... I’m passionate about a lot of things. Life in general, especially music and art. And animals and believe it or not, people. // Who in particular? My kids and my wife, my friends and my family. My band mates. // Which of your guitars are you most crazy about? There is one special guitar that I own that I guess you could say I’m in love with. // One of how many? I have roughly 100 guitars. // Tell us about your favourite place to holiday? I don’t really have a favourite holiday destination, I very rarely take holidays.

But saying that I’ve been to the island three times this year already; it would probably be Ibiza. // What does Slash do in his free time? Any free time I have, I´ll most likely use for something work-related, I spend most of my time involved with music in some way, shape or form. But I also spend free time with my family or sometimes I’ll go to the track and race cars. // Tell us your music plans at the moment and for the future... I’m right in the middle of a tour at the moment and then my plans are to get back into the studio and make another record that will go out next year.

ACTUALMENTE EN ACTIVO, EXPLICA QUE TRAS LA GIRA EN LA QUE SE HALLA INMERSO, TRABAJARÁ EN LO QUE SERÁ SU NUEVO ÁLBUM QUE, ADELANTA, VERÁ LA LUZ EL PRÓXIMO 2012. EN LO QUE VA DE AÑO, HA VISITADO IBIZA TRES VECES Y NO SOLO CON ROPA NEGRA Y DE CUERO… ¡Larga vida al rock and roll! ¿Puede ser para siempre? Supongo que sí, aunque depende del ritmo de cada uno. // ¿Cuál es la fórmula para crear un hit? No hay fórmulas que yo conozca. Creo que consiste en la combinación mágica de la inspiración, las letras y la melodía. // ¿Qué le apasiona? Muchas cosas. Soy un apasionado de la vida en términos generales, especialmente de la música y el arte. También me apasionan lo animales… Y la gente, lo creáis o no. // ¿Quién le apasiona? Mis hijos, mi mujer, mis amigos y mi familia. Y mis compañeros de banda. // ¿Amor hacia alguna guitarra en particular? Tengo una guitarra especial.

Imagino que entonces consideraréis que siento amor por ella. // ¿Una guitarra de cuántas? De aproximadamente un centenar. // ¿Qué tal por Ibiza? Muy bien.

Estábamos de vacaciones así que hemos pasado bastante tiempo en la playa por el día y en los clubes por la noche. Probablemente volvamos en otoño. // Ahora que habla de la playa. Mis amigos los rockers suelen ir vestidos, de arriba a abajo, de negro y de cuero. ¿Hace usted lo mismo? Mi intención era esa, ir de negro y de cuero, pero mi mujer me convenció para que metiera en la maleta unas bermudas. // En una reciente fiesta de disfraces mi socia decidió caracterizarse de Slash, ni más ni menos. Dígame, ¿De quién se vestiría usted? ¡También yo me disfrazaría de mi mismo! // Pongámonos serios de nuevo y cuéntenos sus planes musicales actuales y de futuro. Estoy en el medio de una gira actualmente y mis planes futuros consisten en meterme en el estudio para hacer un nuevo disco que pueda estar en la calle el próximo año. // ¿No tiene mucho tiempo libre, verdad? Suelo pasar mi tiempo libre con mi familia. A veces voy a las carreras de coches y camiones pero la mayor parte del tiempo estoy ocupado con la música de una manera u otra.

I won’t talk about how I love DJing because that is obvious to anyone who sees me play. So with that said here are some things I love and why. I love Snowboarding; it’s my number one love outside of music.

The thing I love the most is the freedom you feel when you’re flying down a mountain at a ludicrous speed, lost in the fresh breeze and breathtaking scenery. I love travelling on the train, gazing out the window at the fields and meadows dreaming to some blissed-out beats. I suppose this love stems from being utterly bored of air travel and all the rhubarb that accompanies it these days, like squeezing my shampoo into 100ml bottles before I go away each weekend in order to take them on the plane. I love Redken Shampoo, I love Pret a Manger’s coffee and their gingerbread men aptly named ‘Godfrey’. I like them when they’re not too crunchy though, so I can often be seen as the weirdo walking around their bakery departments squeezing them like some sort of lunatic. I love getting up early and seeing the sunshine (or staying up later and seeing the sunrise, especially in Ibiza). I love going to the gym; I know I’m not exactly a beefcake (and I have no desire to be) but I just like to keep fit these days, it definitely makes you feel good. I love Free Wifi, Sushi, Shreddies, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Eastenders’, cheesy 80s music and ‘Bloke Folk’. I love my friends, family and real people. I love the fact this list could literally be endless, I am one lucky son of a biscuit. FML? No, LML. I love my life”.

No quiero hablar sobre lo mucho que me apasiona pinchar porque esto es obvio para alguien que me vea en acción. Así que dicho esto, aquí van algunas cosas que me encantan y por qué. Me apasiona hacer snow, es mi pasión número uno, sin contar la música claro. Lo que más adoro en el mundo es la libertad que sientes cuando estás sobrevolando una montaña a una velocidad absurda, perdido entre la refrescante brisa y el imponente escenario. Me encanta viajar en tren, contemplando a través de la ventana los campos y prados, mientras sueño con beats repletos de felicidad. Supongo que este amor deriva de acabar completamente aburrido de tanto viaje en avión y del jaleo que ello conlleva en estos días, como meter mi champú y otros productos en botellas de 100ml antes de marcharme cada fin de semana, con el objetivo de poder llevarlo todo conmigo.

Adoro el champú de Redken -están disponibles otras marcas-, me gusta mucho el café de Pret a Manger -otras marcas están disponibles, también- y su hombrecito de pan de jengibre, denominado con gran acierto, Godfrey. Me gusta cuando no está demasiado crujiente, así que a menudo se me puede ver como un bicho raro paseando por la sección de bollería, exprimiendo galletitas como una especie de lunático. Me apasiona levantarme temprano y ver el amanecer -o quedarme hasta tarde y ver la puesta del sol, especialmente en Ibiza. Me encanta ir al gimnasio, no para ponerme cachas -no tengo deseos de serlo-, pero me gusta mantenerme en forma en estos días porque, sin duda, te hace sentir bien. Me gusta el wifi gratuito, el suhi, los cereales Shreddies, Los Soprano, Eastenders (serie británica de los 80), la música cursi de los 80 y Bloke Folke. “THE RENEWED excitement I have towards my career has been like a tidal wave in my life over these last few years. I went through a period where I forgot why I was doing what I was doing but these days, I once again feel very passionate again about my goals and aims with my music. I want to remind people that I am a musician and artist. I have a renewed passion for performing live and DJing, which has led me down a path of enjoying it more today than I have ever done. My passion for make-up has been a part of my life as long as music has been. From my first experience with Bowie through to my years as a punk and then into the whole New Romantics/The Blitz/Culture Club explosion, I’ve always had a love for make-up. Alongside both of these external loves of who I am, my health is another thing that I am very passionate about. In my younger, more foolish years, I all too often led myself down a dark avenue with my life choices but when you get through that stuff and look back at the car crash you’ve left behind, it is not necessarily something to be proud of. It has taken me a long time to realize how lucky I am, that I get to have the career I love so dearly. These days I’m very healthy, I eat well and take care of myself. My diet is completely raw and I exercise regularly at the gym or by doing kickboxing. I am not one of those people who yearn to be young. I’m 50 now but I feel at the top of my game enjoying my life, family, friends and music more than I’ve ever done before. For all of the above reasons, I am most definitely passionate!”.

“EL RENOVADO entusiasmo que tengo hacia mi carrera ha sido como una ola en mi vida durante estos últimos años. Pasé por un período en el que me olvidé de la razón por la cual hice lo que estaba haciendo, pero hoy volví a sentirme apasionado acerca de mis metas y objetivos con mi música. Quiero recordar a la gente que soy un músico y un artista. KENNY GLASGOW: “Passion is central to my very soul. I think it’s pretty hard to be a successful singer and convey vocals to an audience that actually mean something on anything more than a superficial level without having deep-rooted passion about everything you do. I’m not just not just talking about passion for music, but also for life, love and humanity as a whole. I’d like to think that this is clearly apparent if you listen to any Art Department record or hang out with me for long enough to get to know me properly. I’m a very passionate person, I tend to act instinctively to situations, if I’m feeling it then this will be instantly clear to all those around me. However, if something has happened to piss me off then I find it very hard to cover-up, smile and make do. Luckily I tend to find myself surrounded by some pretty amazing people most of the time so I tend to feed off their passion, which in turns drives my creativity. It’s a pretty fulfilling cycle to be a part of!”

“La pasión es el centro de mi alma. Creo que es bastante difícil ser un cantante de éxito y transmitir la voz a un público que significa algo en más que un nivel superficial, sin tener arraigada la pasión por lo que haces. No estoy hablando solamente de la pasión por la música, sino también por la vida, el amor y la humanidad en su conjunto. Me gustaría pensar que esto es evidente si se escucha cualquier disco de Art Department o se pasa el rato conmigo durante el tiempo suficiente para llegar a conocerme bien.

Soy una persona muy apasionada, tiendo a actuar de forma instintiva en diferentes situaciones, y si estoy sintiendo la pasión quedará inmediatamente claro para todos los que me rodean. Sin embargo, si ha sucedido algo que me cabrea me resulta muy difícil encubrirlo y conformarme. Por suerte, tiendo a verme rodeado de personas bastantes sorprendentes la mayor parte del tiempo, así que suelo alimentarme de su pasión, que a su vez impulsa mi creatividad. ¡Es un ciclo muy pleno para formar parte de él!”.

Fue algo más que eso. La verdad es que lo pasábamos bien, era muy divertido. Mostraba de alguna manera el lado normal de una persona corriente, de nuestras vidas. Algo que otros creativos no hacían. No fue difícil disfrutar con este disco. Tampoco intentábamos ser hippies, como muchos dijeron, porque habláramos de paz y amor. De hecho, nunca hemos creído que haciendo hip hop sólo se puedan tratar ciertos temas. Tenemos la capacidad de hablar de cualquier cosa: la vida de mi madre, el amor, el dinero, las drogas. // Y han pasado 22 años desde entonces… ¿Qué ha ocurrido en todo este tiempo? Básicamente, hemos hecho música, discos. Hemos tenido grandes colaboraciones y vivido excelentes experiencias a lo largo de nuestras vidas. // ¿Cuál es la fórmula para seguir innovando? Nuestra inspiración es amar lo que hacemos. Siempre decimos que somos estudiantes de música. Seguimos estudiando. Seguimos fijándonos en los nuevos artistas de la escena para aprender de ellos. // ¿Y la experiencia de tocar en directo en un club? ¡Empezamos tocando en clubes! Aparecimos como De La Soul a finales de los años 80 y entonces el hip hop era algo muy gordo en los clubes. Hemos tocado en Studio 54 y otros espacios legendarios como Latin Quarter o Palladium. Pero también hemos tocado en grandes arenas y concurridos festivales. Nos gusta el hecho de poder cambiar de entorno para nuestros directos. Es siempre una experiencia diferente. // ¿Cuánto tiempo estaréis en Ibiza? Lamentablemente, sólo dos días. Hay ganas, siempre hemos oído comentarios muy positivos sobre la isla. Aunque sobre todo, tenemos interés en la gente que vive ahí todo el año. Creo que es un lugar muy internacional, así que nos gustaría visitarla cuando no haya tantos turistas.

De La Soul are always travelling and at the minute, we’re working on three different projects in the studio. // Lets go back in time and remember 3 Feet High and Rising, your first album, which, strangely, for a hip hop group, talks of peace and love. It was a lot more than that. The truth is we had a great time doing it, we were just having fun. We portrayed ourselves as the normal people we are, something that many other creatives didn’t do. It wasn’t hard to have fun making the record but neither were we trying to be hippies just because we talked about peace and love! We have the capacity to talk about whatever we want- our mothers’ lives, love, money, drugs… // Twenty two years have passed since then. What’s happened in the meantime? Basically, we’ve been making music, releasing records. We’ve done some great collaborations and lived some amazing experiences throughout our lives. // What’s the formula of innovation? Our inspiration is that we love what we do. We always say we are eternal students of music. We’re always studying, keeping up with the new artists of the scene, learning from them. // Describe the experience of playing in a club? We started playing in clubs... When we came out as De La Soul in the late 80s, Hip Hop was really big in the clubs and we were doing shows in places like Studio 54 or legendary hiphop clubs like Latin Quarter or Palladium. But we’ve also played in giant arenas and big festivals; we like a change of surroundings. It’s always a different experience. // How long are you staying in Ibiza? Unfortunately, only a couple of days. We’d love to be here longer, we’ve heard great things about the island. Although, above all, I’m most interested in the people who live there all year long. I believe it’s a very international place and I’d like to visit with less tourists around.

Fabric is the most respected club in the world (at least in my book), so I was nervous and honoured to play live in Room 1. By the end, I’d EQ’d each song one-by-one and adapted everything to the sound system. It was amazing fun and the room was electric. // A lovely time in Kate’s Life? Right now - happy as can be! // Lovely Plans and Wishes… I’ll be back and forth to Europe in September, October, and November. Besides that, it’s been great to be back in my studio in Chicago, making new music.

WE CAUGHT UP WITH HIM ONE JULY AFTERNOON IN A QUIET CORNER OF THE HOTEL LA HACIENDA NA XAMENA. DOUBLE PLEASURE. WE IMAGINE that your name is a reference to the whale in the famous novel of your great- great uncle, Moby Dick. Wouldn’t it have been easier to say, “Call me Ismael…’? I didn’t choose my name, my parents did! When I was born, they thought my real name, Richard Melville Hall, was too long for a baby and so they called me Moby from when I was only 10 minutes old. ‘Moby Dick’ deals with a wide variety of themes, biology, religion, idealism, obsession, politics, racism, revenge amongst them...

Does your music also deal with so many issues? ‘Moby Dick’ does cover many substantial issues, but above all it’s a book about the human condition. My music is very much geared towards addressing emotions more than issues. I try to reflect that through the music I make and hopefully connect with the audience through them. // ‘Last Night’ was a real album for the dancefloor, ‘Wait For Me’ worked like a dream on a Sunday morning. Where does your latest production ‘Destroyed’ fit in? I made most of the record during the night in hotel rooms, helped along by my insomnia, whilst thinking of the empty city streets. Maybe you could say that the best definition is that it’s an album about empty streets at 3am in the morning. // The CD booklet contains a selection of images taken by you whilst on tour..tell us about that.. I’ve been a photographer for 35 years. I’m not interested in the kind of images that we’ve all seen millions of times. There are too many pictures already of dramatic oceans, beautiful babies, lovely countryside scenes. My lens is only interested in things that people never normally pay attention to. // You’ve often declared your love for making records at home, a kind of DIY fingers up to pressure from record companies. Talk to us about the pressures you face as an artist… I never imagined I would have a career in music. I thought I was going to be a University professor and make music that no one listened to in my spare time, so it still surprises me that my records reach so many people in so many countries. There is pressure to keep the record company happy and pressure for me to be happy. Luckily, now that records don’t sell, that type of pressure disappears. That’s why ‘Destroyed’ is no more than a record that I’d like to listen to. // How does such a surprisingly approachable and modest person like yourself handle fame? I dont like how fame affects people, nor how it affects me. I can’t think of absolutely anybody that fame made into a better person. Fame is like a disease. // So how do you avoid being contaminated? I’m not sure. Before, I used to go to all these VIP red carpet events but I didn’t enjoy that scene at all. It didn’t make me a happier nor a better person, so I quit. // You have a very interesting lifestyle: - vegan, raised by hippies…how do you deal with turbulent, modern day society? // There have always been tragedies throughout history, some much more serious that what we see and hear today. I think that the media are guilty of portraying tragedies worse than they actually are. Many of the biggest problems we face, we’ve created ourselves, the human race. We live angry, stressful lives, we kill and murder each other....The only hope left is to stop being so stupid and let the world be what it really is - a paradise.

MOBY HA VUELTO A SPACE UN AÑO MÁS PARA PINCHAR JUNTO A CARL COX –“UN BUEN HOMBRE Y MI AMIGO”- SU PERSONAL Y EXQUISITA SELECCIÓN DE “MÚSICA ENERGÉTICA”. CHARLAMOS UNA TARDE DE JULIO CON EL NEOYORQUINO EN UNA RESERVADA E INFINITA TERRAZA DEL HOTEL LA HACIENDA NA XAMENA. PLACER DOBLE. ¿PORQUÉ eligió Moby como nombre artístico -imaginamos que en referencia al cachalote protagonista de la novela de su tío bisabuelo, ‘Moby Dick’- cuando hubiese sido más fácil exclamar “Pueden ustedes llamarme Ismael”? ¡Yo no elegí mi nombre! Lo hicieron mis padres. Cuando nací, creyeron que Richard Melville Hall, mi verdadero nombre, era demasiado largo para un bebé y comenzaron a llamarme Moby. Me llaman así desde que tengo 10 minutos de vida. // ‘Moby Dick’ trata temas dispares: biología, religión, idealismo, obsesión, política, racismo, venganza… ¿También su música cubre tantos aspectos? ‘Moby Dick’ abarca numerosas cuestiones de fondo pero sobre todo, es un libro sobre la condición humana. Mi música no está muy orientada a tratar temas, sino emociones. Mis emociones. Intento reflejarlas en la música que hago y con suerte, conectar a través de ellas con la gente que la escucha. // ‘Last Night’ era un disco para las pistas de baile; ‘Wait For Me’ funcionaba los domingos por la mañana. Cuéntenos dónde encaja su último trabajo, ‘Destroyed’. La mayor parte del disco se compuso en habitaciones de hoteles por la noche. En mi insomnio, contemplando las ciudades vacías. Así que imagino que la mejor definición es que se trata de un disco para ciudades vacías a las 3 de la mañana. // El librillo del CD incluye un fotolibro con una selección de imágenes que ha realizado durante sus giras. Soy fotógrafo desde hace 35 años. No me interesan las imágenes de aquellos aspectos del mundo que han sido fotografiados tantas veces. Hay demasiadas fotos ya de dramáticos océanos, de preciosos bebés, de bonitos paisajes. El interés de mi objetivo se centra en aquello en lo que la gente no prestaría atención. // No pocas veces ha declarado su disfrute por hacer discos en casa y bajo la filosofía ‘DIY’ –Do it Yourself (hazlo tú mismo)- debido a presiones discográficas. ¿Qué tipo de presiones puede tener un artista de la talla de Moby que convierte en oro todo lo que edita? Nunca imaginé que podría tener una carrera como músico.

Pensaba que sería un profesor de Universidad y que haría música que nadie escucharía en mi tiempo libre, así que todavía me sorprende que mis discos lleguen a tanta gente en tantos países. Hay presiones para hacer felices a mis managers, presiones para hacer feliz a la compañía discográfica; presiones para hacer que yo mismo sea feliz. Por suerte, ahora no se venden discos, con lo que este tipo de presiones desaparece. Por eso, ‘Destroyed’ no es más que el disco que me gustaría escuchar. // Y la fama ¿cómo se lleva? Es una persona sorprendentemente cercana y modesta. No me gusta cómo la fama afecta a la gente, ni cómo me afecta a mi. No puedo pensar en absolutamente nadie a quien la fama le haya convertido en mejor persona. La fama es como una enfermedad. // ¿Cómo hace para evitar el contagio? No lo se. Antes iba a fiestas con famosos, eventos de alfombra roja… pero no disfrutaba en absoluto. No me hacía ni feliz ni mejor persona. Y lo dejé. // Nos interesa su estilo de vida: Siendo vegano y habiendo crecido con verdaderos hippies, ¿Cómo afronta la turbia sociedad actual? Siempre ha habido tragedias en la Historia y algunas mucho más graves de las que vemos y escuchamos hoy. Creo que son los medios los que hacen que las tragedias sean mayores.

Muchos de los problemas mayores los hemos creado nosotros, los humanos. Vivimos enfadados y con ansiedad, matamos, asesinamos… La última esperanza que nos queda es dejar de ser tan estúpidos y permitir al mundo ser lo que realmente es, un paraíso.

DETROIT TECHNO WAS UP AND RUNNING AND HAWTIN WAS AT THE STEERING WHEEL. It’s time to take stock, time for a change. As much as I like to think about looking forward, but I think that as humans we are sometimes forced to look back to work out how we got to where we are. ‘Arkives’ is the full collection of 18 years of Plastikman history all in the one package… After 20 years of coming to the island it’s a retrospective moment and bringing Plastikman to Ibiza after 20 years of my coming here just seems totally right. It’s incredibly exciting. // What about this live element that seems to be all the craze right now on Ibiza? It’s not just in Ibiza that that is happening, it’s the whole world! For the last number of years we have all wanted to explore different avenues, to see how we can be better entertainers and give the public an experience that will stay close to their hearts. // Intense.. in sooo many ways..how do you keep on truckin’? We are a very close team. We make travelling lots of fun. But also, you need to get some good sleep, eat well, get as much energy as you can and keep that cycle of energy going... // Where do you love to call home? Berlin. It’s my base and it’s always nice to get back there. // A piece of technology you’re passionate about? The i-phone.

Technology is really bringing us together, allowing us to directly communicate in an instant...// Passion by Plastikman… The heart is music. If you don’t get that electrifying feeling then the passion isn’t there; you might as well forget about it. A private passion... The Water! I love scuba diving, I swim at least 3 times a week and I’m learning to kite surf. Being in the water just sets my day off! It might have something to do with why Ibiza attracts me so, surrounded by water, playing my music.

Somos un equipo muy compacto. Nos lo pasamos muy bien mientras viajamos. Pero también hay que dormir y comer bien y ,en general, absorber toda la energía posible para que pueda seguir funcionando // ¿A qué lugar te gusta llamarle hogar? Berlín. Es mi base y siempre es agradable regresar ahí. // El gadget tecnológico que adores. El iPhone. La tecnología está conectando al mundo, permitiendo la comunicación directa e instantánea // La pasión según Plastikman.

El corazón es música. // Una pasión privada. El agua. Me encanta hacer submarinismo y lo practico unas tres veces por semana. Además, estoy aprendiendo Kite surf. Estar en el agua arregla mis días libres. Puede ser una de las razones por las cuáles Ibiza me atrae tanto. Una isla, rodeada por agua y en la que puedo pinchar mi música. ¡Perfecto!

I started going out at the age of 16 and I fell in love with music..listening to house and breakbeats, DJs like LTJ Bukem, George Morel, the scene in Frankfurt and Mannheim..I didn’t plan to be a DJ, it just happened along the way. // What do you love more- Nick Curly DJ or Producer? Estar en la Terraza de Space escuchando pinchar a Frankie Knuckles era algo muy parecido al paraíso. // ¿Y te enamoraste? Si, amo Ibiza y amo Space, sobre todo desde hace unos tres años cuando empecé a trabajar aquí en la isla. Empecé pinchando en Zoo Project y después pasé a hacerlo en el primero de los Kehakuma. // ¿Tu primer amor? It is precisely this experience that Space people will be gunning for this summer when the legend presents his latest project “Live Booth Sessions” at Space. That’s not a legend! That’s the truth! The first time I was totally rejected... and Ibiza has kicked me out twice, but when it finally trapped me, it was impossible to leave. I am very sensitive and the island’s energy really affects me. // How is it going this summer in your beloved Space? My beloved Space and my lovely terrace are giving me so much happiness. Although I think the best is yet to come!

Nunca los recuperé y encima ¡Me dejaron dinero a deber! // Sabes que existe una leyenda de tintes mágicos sobre Ibiza que dice que la isla o te acoge o te rechaza. ¿Cuándo sentiste por primera vez lo mucho que te quiere esta isla? ¡Eso no es una leyenda! ¡Es la pura verdad! ¡La primera vez me rechazó totalmente! Y me ha expulsado dos veces más.... Pero cuando me atrapa es imposible irse.... Soy muy sensible y sensitivo y me afecta mucho esa energía que hay en Ibiza. // ¿Cómo te está yendo el verano en tu querida Space? Esto es para mí la pasión: Un fuego que mantiene encendido el corazón, que arde en las venas y que nos manifiesta que estamos preparados para una nueva aventura hacia la conquista de nuestra vida”.

MATI FERNÁNDEZ es real. La mayor de cinco hermanos de padres oriundos de Granada, es la personificación del flamenco en Ibiza. Comenzó a cantar a los siete años, continuó con la percusión y actualmente está de gira con la compañía de Joaquín Cortés. Empecemos por el principio… Comencé a cantar en el coro de la iglesia y me inicié con el cajón flamenco algunos años después. Mi madre era cantante también y siempre había música sonando por casa. // Pasión Música y flamenco. Es una forma de vivir, una cultura y una tradición que emana de dentro. Algo absolutamente necesario. // Performance Mi primer proyecto profesional fue con Paco Fernández y José Padilla con ‘Navigator’. Después grabé algunos temas para Sony; me uní a la compañía de baile de Rafael Amargo; canté con Ojos de Brujo y 08001 y he actuado en algunos de los festivales más importantes de España y el extranjero. // Cambios Todavía estoy esperando más cambios. No siento que haya cambiado lo suficiente. Pero mientras siga teniendo el flamenco presente en mi vida y siga haciéndolo bien, todo funcionará. // Cambios desde que el flamenco es Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad Es delicado. Sin duda se trata de un hecho positivo para el flamenco y para la audiencia. La pena es que haya llegado tan tarde. // Si pudieras cambiar algo Viviría en aquella época en la que había que esconderse para interpretar flamenco. // Un héroe Camarón de la Isla. // MATI FERNANDEZ is the real thing. One of five children to parents originating from Granada but settled in Ibiza, she is the personification of Flamenco right here on the island. She first started to sing at the age of 7, took up percussion soon after and is currently touring with the Joaquin Cortes company. Take us back to the beginning… I started in the Church Choir, and took up the ‘cajon’ a few years later. My mother was also a singer so there has always been music at home. // Passionate Performance… My first professional project was with Paco Fernandez and Jose Padilla on ‘Navigator’. Them, I recorded some tracks for Sony, joined the Rafael Amargo dance company, sang with Ojos de Brujo and 08001 and have performed at the most important festivals in Spain and abroad. // Talk about your progress... I’m hoping that I keep improving but for as long as I have Flamenco and as long as I do it with all my love, everything will be just fine! Fusion or not? Yes! Fusion! I like it, as long as it’s done well. But hey, Flamenco is not a fashion, it’s a way of life. // A Hero.. Camarón de la Isla. // Flamenco was recently awarded World Heritage status, what´s your opinion on that? It’s a delicate subject. I think it’s great that Flamenco is gaining a new audience but that the audience has missed out on so much from the past- it’s just a shame it happened so late. // If you could change anything about your life… I’d have lived back when they had to hide away in secret to play Flamenco // Passion for Mati means… Music and Flamenco. It is a way of life, a culture, a tradition that comes from inside.

Nunca he vivido nada igual en otro club. // ¿Cómo fue la primera vez que pinchaste? Lo recuerdo perfectamente. Fue un domingo, a las 16,00h. Estaba nerviosísimo y el público totalmente encendido. Lo mejor, observar cómo la gente subía y bajaba conmigo, con mi música. ¡Fue increíble e inolvidable! // Y ahora, algunos años después, te llevas de la mano el sonido de Space por todo el mundo como DJ residente de Space World Tour. Trabajar en el tour es toda una experiencia. No sólo me da la oportunidad de conocer nuevos países sino que me da el placer de pinchar en las fiestas tan increíbles que monta Space en todo el mundo. // El mejor DJ residente de Ibiza en los premios Deejay Mag 2010.

The experience made my hair stand on end; frankly, I’ve never seen anything like it to this day. Tell us about your virgin session at Space… I remember it perfectly. It was a Sunday, 4pm. I was so nervous and the public were on fire. The best part was watching how my music transported the people up, down and all over the place. Unbelievable and unforgettable! And now, just a few years later, the sound of Space is literally in your hands, as resident DJ of the Space World Tour.

Working on the tour is an absolute experience. Not only is it giving me the opportunity to visit other countries, it’s giving me an enormous amount of pleasure to play at the amazing events Space is organizing around the world. Best Ibiza Resident DJ at the Deejay Mag awards in 2010. Camilo Franco, you’ve won us over! For me, it’s an honour; the prize a very valuable acknowledgement both in and for Ibiza, the island that I respect so much and of course, for Space, the club in which I work. Where is your own personal space- your peaceful place away from the island’s clubs? I always find a bit of personal space in the neighbouring island of Formentera…but also on any of the gorgeous beaches of Ibiza.

La isla, que “representa para muchos un lugar de frivolidad”, según palabras de Günter, es sin embargo “la capital mundial de la música electrónica y uno de los puntos de mayor creatividad musical de Europa”. Para el director, “desde las culturas arcaicas ha existido la necesidad de crear lugares de ocio y celebración, que suelen ubicarse en lugares idílicos para potenciar la sensación de evasión y euforia”. Pero en Ibiza “ocurren las mismas cosas que en cualquier lugar del mundo”. Ibiza “tampoco es ningún idilio perfecto, ni un lugar donde toda la gente es feliz”, explica el director. En cualquier caso, “la celebración colectiva –sea con música electrónica o con otro tipo de música- es tan necesaria hoy como lo ha sido siempre”. Y, concluye Günter, “si es verdad como decía Proust, que ‘la música es un poco de tiempo en estado puro’, quizás Ibiza podría ser un poco de estado puro de occidente”.

His goal, he says, is to demystify the perconceptions not only of ibiza but also the world at large… Ibiza, the island “that for many represents pure frivolity” is, in Schwaiger’s opinion, “the world capital of electronic music and one of the most creative hot spots in Europe”. “Since times of ancient cultures there has been a need for entertainment and celebration, more often than not in idyllic locations so as to enhance that feeling of escape and euphoria”, he believes. But in Ibiza, ‘the same things happen as elsewhere, neither is it the perfect, idyllic place where everyone is happy round the clock’. However, as he explains, “the collective celebration-whether with electronic music or not-is as necessary today as it ever was”. And, concludes Gunter, “if it is true as Proust said that ‘music is a bit of time in a pure state’, perhaps Ibiza could be the pure state of the West”.

La verdad es que a veces los hombres manejan la tensión, incluso mejor que las mujeres. Pero algo es seguro, Ibiza Global Radio es 100% pasión. // Recientemente habéis participado en la 2ª edición del International Radio Festival de Zurich. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia? Llevamos hasta Zurich dos de los programas más populares de nuestra emisora: Ibiza Dance e Ibiza Rocks The Radio y hace poco descubrimos que fuimos la emisora que mayor cobertura online alcanzó de entre las 40 participantes. // Háblanos de tu pasión a los platos. Tras tomar las riendas de Ibiza Global Radio no he tenido mucho tiempo para dedicarme a mis cosas. Tengo 28 años y hasta la fecha todo ha ido muy deprisa. Ahora que todo parece estar en su sitio, tengo más tiempo para escuchar música y concentrarme en pinchar, algo que realmente adoro. // ¿Alguna pasión más que debamos saber? Anna. Radio is your life and in your case, it’s a family affair…Was it always your plan to continue in the business? I’ve been passionate about the world of broadcasting since I was a little girl; I grew up surrounded by it, listening to the radio constantly. My family have the media group that umbrellas Ibiza Global Radio, Exit Radio, Prensa Pitiusa and TEF, so it’s always been a part of my life. // Woman to woman, I have to admire you, you hold your own well in such a male environment… how do you keep the Global machine running? You need patience for sure but the Global team is like one big family, and we do have our moments of high tension, because we ARE so passionate about what we do…and in fact, sometimes the men handle the pressure even better than the women round here. One thing is for sure, Ibiza Global Radio is 100% Passion! // You recently participated in the 2nd International Radio Festival in Zurich, how did it go? It was the 2nd edition of the IRF, we took two of our most popular programmes. Ibiza Dance and Ibiza Rocks the Radio, and we found out recently that we were the station that received the most hits for our live broadcast of the 40 stations that participated. // Talk about your own passion for playing… After taking up the reins of Global Radio, I didn’t have a lot of time to focus on my own things. I’m 28 and until now it’s been non-stop. But now that everything is in place, I have more time to listen to music myself and I can concentrate on my DJing, something that I really do love. // And your other passions? The sea, animals, time with my family and fashion! I love style; maybe I hadn’t worked in radio I would have worked in that.

BORN IN ENGLAND, brought up in Wales, she is courageous, mild mannered and has the most infectious laugh. Meet Muriel Mary Chandler- Molly to her friends- a lady who has been passionate about Ibiza since she first arrived in the early 70’s. The former “model of ladies’ gowns” moved to the island with her husband when the place was, as she puts it, “just beginning to grow up”. They arrived under doctor’s orders to live in the sun, and built themselves a beautiful house with a tower in Can Germá. “There were very little problems in those days”, she says. No stranger to travelling in her youth, her decision to stay here and raise her boys was a big one. “The big adjustment was missing my mother, my brothers and my own daughter. There was only one bus a day at that time from San Antonio to Ibiza”, she says, and so they bought themselves a car. “We used to go and have dinner with other English residents, until eventually we got to know some lovely Ibicenco friends”. So what else does she love about the island? “Well, it’s very different from home!”. Are the Spanish more passionate than the English, we ask... “Sometimes! For example, morning breakfast in England is a very quiet affair with bacon and eggs- a real meal. Also, I was brought up to not to shout when I speak, to sit up nice and straight at the table and be a good girl! It’s not like that here, there’s much more noise, but it’s still lovely”. These days, our Molly still does all of the above as well as being the first full time resident at the Santa Eulalia Senior Complex, where she professes to be “sometimes homesick but very happy”. On the point of turning 99, we can only say, ‘here’s lookin’ at you, kid!’.

NACIÓ EN INGLATERRA y se crió en Gales. Afable y de risa contagiosa, visitamos a Muriel Mary Chandler –Molly para los amigos. Una mujer que ha visto y experimentado grandes cambios en Ibiza desde que llegó a la isla a principios de la década de los años 70. Modelo de alta costura, se trasladó a la isla cuando, según sus propias palabras, “empezaba a crecer”. Aquí llegaron bajo las recomendaciones médicas de vivir en un lugar soleado, y se construyeron un bonito hogar con torre incluida en Can Germá. “Sólo había un autobús al día de San Antonio a Ibiza. “Por eso compramos un coche”, nos cuenta. “Solíamos salir a cenar con otros residentes, hasta que finalmente conocimos a nuestros amigos ibicencos”. Molly siempre fue una mujer decidida, sin miedo a viajar sola. Sin embargo, la gran decisión de su vida fue la de instalarse en Ibiza y criar aquí a sus hijos. “El gran cambio fue echar de menos a mi madre, mis hermanos y a mi propia hija”. ¿Algún cambio más? “Sí. Ibiza es muy diferente a Inglaterra. Por ejemplo, el desayuno allí es toda una ceremonia con su bacon y huevos. Una comida completa. También he sido educada para no gritar cuando hablo, sentarme correctamente en la mesa y ser una buena chica”. Y lo es, mientras a sus 99 años tan bien llevados vive y sonríe en el Complejo Residencial de Mayores de Santa Eulalia. Un lugar fantástico en el que se siente, admite, “muy feliz”.

COYU ES EL NOMBRE DE GUERRA DE IVÁN RAMOS, POLIFACÉTICO JOVEN NACIDO EN EL VERANO DE 1985. AMANTE DE LA ESCRITURA Y EL VINILO, ES UNO DE LOS MÁS TALENTOSOS ARTISTAS DE LA ACTUAL ESCENA ELECTRÓNICA EUROPEA, SIENDO RECLAMADO COMO DJ Y PINCHADO POR LOS MEJORES COMO LA ESTRELLA EMERGENTE Y BRILLANTE QUE YA ES. ¿De dónde viene tu nombre artístico? Adopté este nombre hace ya más de 10 años cuando escuchaba una canción en casa de unos amigos del colegio que decía algo así como ‘Coyuco’. Era una canción tribal-house de la época, me gustó y lo adopté pero con el diminutivo. ¿Qué aportan tus sellos Suara y Atypical Farm a la escena electrónica contemporánea? Aportan diferentes cosas. Atypical Farm actualmente está un poco más limitado porque Suara se come todo mi tiempo, pero cada referencia que saco es una parte de mí, es mi Technoside. Suara aporta algo más, a nivel nacional es el sello top del país y a nivel internacional está creciendo muchísimo. La verdad es que estoy muy contento con Suara porque está creciendo a muchos niveles. ¿Qué es lo que más amas y lo que más odias de la industria de la música? Lo que más amo es el contacto con la gente, que te paren después de pinchar, que quieran dos minutitos de ti, es increíble… Y lo que odio, bueno, me gustaría que la escena fuera un poco diferente, que la música que suena en la sala grande de Space fuese la que suena en la sala pequeña y viceversa. Música o amor. ¿Qué es más importante en tu vida? Pregunta complicada… Creo que ambas cosas son complementarias porque en realidad sin amor no hay música, estaría haciendo música depresiva constantemente. Me quedo con ambas, no puedo elegir entre una de ellas. ¿Una noche en la cabina que recuerdes con especial amor? El año pasado en la terraza de Space con mi amigo Edu Imbernon.

Era la primera vez que pinchábamos de seguido en Space y fue algo mágico, lo dimos todo y la gente alucinó.

What’s behind your artistic name? I adopted that nickname more than ten years ago now, I got it from a track I was listening to at a friend’s house. It was a tribalhouse record from that time and the lyrics included the Word ‘Coyuco’. I decided to use it in its shortened version. What do your labels Suara and Atypical Farm bring to the contemporary electronic scene? At the minute, Farm is taking a back seat because Suara is so demanding of my time, but every track I release is a part of me, a reference to my techno side. Suara is really taking off right now; it’s a top selling label in Spain and growing internationally all the time, I’m really happy with it’s progress. What do you love most- and hate most- about the music industry? The thing I love the most is the contact with the public, when they stop you after your set to grab a minute of your attention, it’s unbelievable sometimes… And what I hate the most - well, I’d love to see some changes on the scene, I’d love that the music played in the main room at Space did a swap with the music in the smaller rooms. Music or Love...what is more important in your life? JL: To be invited into Space, the world’s number club, through We Love really is a great honour and an initiative that we want to pass on to other promoters. In the case of We Love promoters Sarah and Mark Broadbents’ collaboration, it’s as easy as collecting donations on the door for the cause. // So what do you need from other island promoters in order to up awareness of Last Night…? JL: All we need is access to venues, one night per promoter, volunteers to help out and all of the above to get in touch with us!. // Alfredo as Patron, what’s the next step? ALFREDO FIORITO: First of all, it’s a pleasure to be involved with this charity. Now, I think our next step to try to get those other promoters aware and involved.. // Why now? BORN IN Dublin in 1962, Kevin Sharkey’s very coming into this world is a story in itself. Destined for greatness in the face of adversity, here is a man who, like many of us, couldn’t quite make up his mind what they wanted to do but was very willing and able to try and find out. In a nutshell, his CV reads something like this- brace yourselves- chef, male model (photographed by David Bailey), interior designer, photographer, songwriter for the likes of Boney M and Bob Geldof (respect), Ireland’s first ever non-white television presenter, and do not forget my own particular favourite, his role as clergyman Fr Shaft, in epic 90s TV series Father Ted. // But since 1982, Kevin Sharkey has been a full time artist and is currently one of the UK and Ibiza’s most talked about artists. Based on the island since 2003, his work boldly graces the walls of Ibiza’s coolest hotel Es Vivé and has been exhibited in various island galleries, not to mention across the globe with some increasing velocity. His recent exhibition ‘Think outside the Box’ caused a right old scandal when he presented a representation of Elton John breastfeeding his new baby son. And then, there was the time he painted the Pope conducting a homosexual marriage... // No stranger to scandal, I wager he almost likes to cause a little stir now and then, and his opinions on sex and sexuality form part and parcel of the man of many colours, indeed his frankness, his cheeky grin and Sharkey’s gift of the gab could get him away with murder, I muse. You have to applaud his nerve. His passion for life, for art, for Ibiza is plain to see from the other side of the island. And any moment now, it will be all too plain to hear as well, as he turns his hand to working on a record label called-wait for it- ‘One Horny Italian’- through which he has just produced a track with none other than gigantic porn celebrity Rocco Siffredi. // The mind boggles... And that, dear readers, is only the half of it… you couldn’t make it up, never mind write the book-but most probably one day, he will put pen to paper and do so himself-and we simply cannot wait to read that story!
