OLD WORLD GRANDEUR IN TETON PINES Jackson Hole, WY
Completed in 2001 and recently remodeled, this is one of the most distinct homes in Jackson Hole on one of the valley's most unique properties.
ISLAND SETTING No other home in Teton Pines, and few others in the entire valley, offers a setting as water-rich as this one. Situated on a private two-and-a-quarter-acre island off of the prestigious Greens Place, the location is also among the most private in the area. Turning into the driveway, you immediately cross a stone and timber bridge spanning a creek with carefully manicured banks. The creek encircles the island, eventually joining a series of swan ponds that form the island's northwestern shore. A refuge for Trumpeter swans in the winter, the ponds are also stocked with trout in the summer. Only residents and guests of the handful of homes with direct access to these ponds are able to fly-fish here. Making the most of this idyllic setting, the home has over 3,800-square feet of natural stone terraces and also an ample lawn at pond's edge. Inside the home, an informal dining area off of the kitchen has 180-degree views with the ponds in the foreground and the Tetons as a backdrop.
ELEGANT ARCHITECTURE The home was designed to impress with its craftsmanship, understated grandeur, and site-responsiveness -- all before you walk through the front door. Inside, its nearly 8,500-square feet balances open spaces and private wings with architectural details like vaulted and trace ceilings applied throughout. The Living Room is one of the grandest in the valley-octagonal vaulted ceilings rise above a curved wall of windows framing micro and macro views. The former are of the surrounding live water and associated riparian habitat; larger views are of the ski slopes of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and major peaks of the Teton Range. Together, the site, spaces, views, and materials-marble, natural stone, hardwood, granite slabs, and custom plasterwork-combine to create an estate unlike any other in the valley.
REFINED LIVING SPACES The gracious timber, stone, and iron entryway sets the stage for this home's dramatic Grand Foyer and Living Room. Double French doors set with handforged, scroll ironwork open into an octagonal, stone-floored Grand Foyer separated from the neighboring Living Room by natural stone columns. Pass through the columns and down several stairs and the views and fine details of the Living Room are revealed:
floor-to-ceiling windows, precision plaster and wood-work, custom lighting and cabinetry, a stacked-stone wood-burning fireplace, a custom-made corner bar with a refrigerator and ice maker, and vaulted wood ceilings accented with massive aged timbers. Adjoining the Living Room, a spacious and sophisticated open formal Dining Area features a commissioned mural on one wall, a trace ceiling, and a custom iron chandelier. The adjacent open, airy, professional-grade William Ohs kitchen has two additional
dining areas for less formal occasions. One has 180-degree views through a curved wall of windows. The other is at a granite slab counter looking into the kitchen. Throughout the kitchen are numerous top-of-the-line touches and components: an eight-burner Viking Pro range with built-in grill, Dacor double ovens, a climate-controlled wine cellar, two built-in Dacor microwaves, full-size side-by-side Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer and a Bosch dishwasher.
MASTER SUITE Tucked into the most private area of the home, the Master Suite is spacious, amenity-rich, and elegant. In the Master Bedroom, vaulted timber ceilings, a stacked stone gas fireplace, a windowed sitting area and a silk canopy
headboard combine to create a space as cozy as it is dramatic. The over-sized, spa-inspired Master Bath includes a jetted bathtub, a double steam shower, and an attached exercise room. The walk-in closet was custom designed.
SLEEPING QUARTERS
CARETAKER'S QUARTERS
ADDITIONAL AMENITIES
This home's two Guest Suites would be master suites in most any other home. The Guest Suite near the Master Suite has a full bath with a claw-foot tub, a double vanity, and walk-in shower. Closer to the kitchen, the second Guest Suite has a sitting area, French doors opening to one of the home's many outdoor terraces, and a generously sized full bath.
A sizeable second-floor caretaker's apartment includes a full kitchen, sitting area, and dining area and is also elegantly finished with high ceilings, knotty alder cabinetry, granite counters, and stone tiles. A near-private entrance allows caretakers or guests living in this space to come and go without hassle.
Most of the home's western and northern facing rooms and public areas have direct access to over 3,800 square feet of planned stone terraces, which overlook swan ponds, mature landscaping, and a well-manicured lawn. For outdoor entertaining, there is a built-in grill off the Kitchen and off of the Living Room, a stone fireplace.
Floors throughout the home are heated hydronically. A fire sprinkler system is also house-wide and a water softener treats all water coming into the home. Near the living room and looking out at the estate's entrance, a sizeable Library/ Office has a gas fireplace, wood-box beam ceilings, and built-in cabinetry and shelving. Between the Library and the Dining Room, a powder room is the essence of Old World elegance with upholstered walls, a rich marble vanity, and a chandelier. The attached three-car garage is heated and has a built-in workbench. Exterior walkways and drives are also heated, so snow removal is not necessary.
FURNISHINGS As part of its recent redesign and remodel, this home was completely refurnished and is being sold with all of its new furnishings, including many pieces custom-made by local artists for particular rooms.
TETON PINES Ideally situated between Teton Village and downtown Jackson, Teton Pines Resort has a 72-par, 7,400-yard Arnold Parmer and Ed Seay-designed golf course, a Tennis Center, a summer saline-purified pool, winter cross-country skiing, on-site fly-fishing, and resident wildlife including moose, deer, elk, bald eagles, fox, geese and osprey. The golf course, opened in 1987, has been updated several times and received accolades from Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Conde Nast Traveler. Readers of Conde Nast Traveler have recognized it as one of the "Top 100 Golf Resorts in North America & the Caribbean." Conde Nast readers rated The Pines restaurant as #2 among the continent's best golf courses. The restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, features seasonal selections and the world's best doughnuts, which are always made-to-order. Meals can be taken in the formal dining room or a casual lounge. In the summer, there is also an outdoor deck.
It's no surprise the Teton Pines neighborhood is among the most desirable in Jackson Hole. When the Resort's residential area was being designed and planned, both were done carefully to not only ensure homes have maximum privacy, but also that area wildlife was respected. In 2003, the Resort was designated a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by Audubon International.
WYOMING LIFESTYLE
Despite Teton Pines' feeling of privacy and sense of being far-removed, conveniences are close-by. The art galleries and restaurants of downtown Jackson are a 15-minute drive. Grocery stores and movie theaters are even closer. Teton Village and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which has invested upwards of $100 million in on-mountain improvements in the last decade and was rated by SKI magazine readers as the #1 overall ski resort in North America for 2014, is a 7-minute drive.
There's one area in which no state ranks ahead of Wyoming: tax friendliness. For years Bloomberg Wealth Manager Magazine has rated Wyoming the nation's most tax-friendly state. Wyoming has no individual income tax, no inheritance tax, no state tax on retirement income earned and received from another state, no state gift taxes, no state capital gains tax, and no personal property tax on property held for personal use. Wyoming also has some of the best asset protection laws of any state in the country and has effectively done away with the rule against perpetuities. Wyoming allows a trust to be established that can continue for up to 1,000 years. Talk about looking out for your future generations!
In the summer, Teton Village is home to the Grand Teton Music Festival, which produces a seven-week season of symphonic and chamber music.
When Wyomingites talk about ties, it's generally in reference to fly-fishing. That's just one of the reasons our state and its 550,000 residents are the second happiest in the country according to a recent Gallup-Healthways Well-Being poll. (Hawaii residents were the country's happiest, but only by a small margin.)
Despite its tax-friendliness to both individuals and businesses, Wyoming often has an annual state budget surplus approaching $1 billion. Then there are the state's wide-open spaces. With the smallest population of any state and the ninth largest area, congestion is unknown, unless you get stuck behind a herd of buffalo. While much of the state is rural, Jackson Hole itself enjoys sophisticated restaurants, a summer symphony orchestra, dozens of art galleries, numerous performance venues, world-class skiing, close proximity to two national parks, 270-some days of annual sunshine, and a friendly, engaging community that supports over 300 non-profits. TETON PINES RESORT
Nestled at the base of the Teton Mountains, the resort stretches out over 360 acres, 200 of which have been preserved as open space, including a golf course. There are approximately 45 acres’ worth of ponds and streams on the property. The water and open space combined draw a variety of wildlife, including deer, moose, trumpeter swans and sandhill cranes. For its location and its many amenities, Teton Pines has earned accolades from Conde Nast Traveler, Harper Hideway Report and Golf Digest, among others. The centerpiece of the resort is the 18-hole golf course, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, which offers challenging play in spectacular scenery. Tennis buffs have a choice of two clay and six latexite hard courts, five of which are covered over during the winter for indoor play. The resort also has a swimming pool, a clubhouse, men’s and women’s locker rooms, cross-country skiing on the golf course in winter, and fly fishing. A county pathway along the Moose-Wilson Road is great for biking, running, walking and inline skating. Teton Pines lies only six miles west of the Town of Jackson and five miles south of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort ski area. In the wintertime, a complimentary shuttle bus ferries residents to the ski area. As easy as it is to get to all of Jackson Hole’s attractions, one of the aspects of Teton Pines that residents most enjoy is the convenience of the on-site Westside office and shopping complex, which has banks, a grocery store, a liquor store, interior design firms, a coffee shop, dry cleaners and Sotheby’s International Realty office. In addition to Teton Pines’ own well-regarded restaurant, The Pines, residents can dine at Mizu for sushi or Stiegler’s for Austrian fare. The Teton Pines neighborhood includes townhomes, cluster homes, as well as larger single-family homes. Residents enjoy beautiful mountain scenery, open spaces, and easy access to everything Jackson Hole has to offer.
