Matt Glewen, General Manager of Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, Inc. He is a retired University of Wisconsin-Extension Agriculture Agent for Calumet County. Sara Brish, Executive Chair for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014, is the Executive Director at the Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. Gary Schultz, Vice-Chair for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014, is a retired sales representative for Northstar Cooperative and is now a full time cash crop farmer in the Almond area. Ken Schroeder, Executive Secretary for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014, is the Agricultural Agent for University of Wisconsin-Extension in Portage County. Rich Wilcox, Treasurer for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014, is the Vice President of BMO Harris Bank-Wisconsin North. Jake Bourget is the County Executive Director for the United States Department of Agriculture - Farm Service Agency for Portage and Wood Counties. Paul Cieslewicz is the owner at Sand County Equipment, specializing in potato harvesting and handling equipment and tillage equipment.

Dale Oâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Brien, is a potato and vegetable grower and is a partner with Hamerski Farms. He also serves as District 19 Portage County Board Supervisor. Tiffany Schaffner is an agricultural instructor with the Rosholt School District. Bruce Soik, Cooperating Grower for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014 Field Demonstrations and is owner of Myron Soik and Sons, Inc in partnership with his father Myron and brothers Mark and Kurt. Kelley Steinke, is retired from the food service industry. She also serves as District 20 Portage County Board Supervisor. Karen Trzebiatowski, is the Administrator at four Assisted Living Facilities in Portage County. She is also a member of the Stevens Point FFA Alumni and along with her husband and his brothers operate Golden Sands Swine, Inc. Pete Zakrzewski, Co-host for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014. He, his brother-in-law Mike, and nephew Jake are partners in Blue Top Farms, Inc. Jason Zilisch is employed with Wisconsin Public Service.

Host Farms BLUE TOP FARMS started in 1958 as a

partnership between Jim & Delores Zakrzewski and Emeryck & Irene Zakrzewski. Initially 160 acres of land was purchased for the production of hogs, but by the mid 1970’s production was switched from hogs to beef. The beef operation continued to expand through the years, with beef numbers reaching as high as 2000 head. In 1997 beef production land was sold and is now part of the Portage County Business Park. With cattle gone, production became focused on producing grains & vegetables. Today, Blue Top Farms is comprised of 1200 acres, located throughout Portage County, of which 1000 acres are irrigated. Crops include field corn, soybeans, green beans and sweet corn. Farm operations are carried out by Jim and Delores’ son, Pete Zakrzewski, co-host for Portage County Farm Technology Days 2014. He, his brother-in-law Mike, and nephew Jake, are partners in Blue Top Farms, Inc.

FELTZ FAMILY FARMS is owned and operated by Ken and Jackie Feltz since 1995. The 4th generation farm was established by Ken’s great grandfather, Peter Feltz, after his family immigrated from Poland. The farm continued operation under the direction of Ken’s grandfather, Joe Feltz and later his father, George Feltz. Their son Jared, who recently graduated from River Falls, will carry the farm into the fifth generation. Through the years, green beans, sweet corn and peas have been grown on the farm. Since 1995 the focus has been on dairy cattle. High priority is placed on cow comfort to ensure quality milk and top production. Through different phases of improvements and expansion the farm has grown to its current form. The 500 cow dairy employs 11 full time employees. The 500 owned and rented acres of land grow alfalfa and corn silage for the cattle. Additional land, being used for field demonstrations, is being made possible through neighboring growers; Myron Soik and Sons, Inc. and Greg Kizewski and Sons, Inc. 4 | WISCONSIN

MOBILITY SCOOTER RENTALS:

Mobility Carts for Farm Technology Days will be handled by Vista Mobility Specialists for $35 per day. Reservations should be made in advance. To reserve your scooter call 877-588-4782 or visit www.vistamobility.net online. On the website, select Scooter Reservations (on the right) then select Create a new Reservation and select the event Farm Technology Days. To insure a scooter is available, visitors are strongly encouraged to make rental arrangements before arriving at the show.

MEDICAL SERVICES:

The First Aid Station is located near the corner of University Avenue and 6th Street E, just north of the Family Living Tent. See the map on pages 20 & 21.

NURSING/BABY CHANGING AREA:

There will be a comfortable breastfeeding area in the Family Mercantile tent for participants and visitors to use for breastfeeding, pumping, and diaper changing. The tent can be found at the corner of West Sixth Street and Central Avenue. The area is sponsored by the Portage County Breastfeeding Coalition.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH: Take Interstate 39 to Exit 156 to County Highway HH. Continue east on County Highway HH to County Road R (Brilowski Road) and turn right. County Road R will lead to the site. Follow the signs to parking area. DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH: Take Interstate 39 to Exit 153 to County Highway B to Amherst. Continue east on County Highway B to County Road R and turn left. County Road R will lead to the site. Follow the signs to parking area. DIRECTIONS FROM THE EAST: Take US Highway 10 to Stevens Point. Turn left on County Highway R (Brilowski Road) and continue south. County Road R will lead to the site. Follow the signs to parking area. Please follow the provided guide routes. These routes are staffed and engineered to give show attendees the most efficient routes into and out of the parking areas at the show.

GENERAL PARKING:

General Parking is located on the west, north and south sides of Tent City. Trams are available to transport visitors from General Parking to Tent City. Handicapped Parking is located near the west entry gates (Admission Gate “A” and Admission Gate “B”) into Tent City. Exhibitor Parking is located on the north side and the south side of Tent City. When visitors are ready to leave the event, they may go to any gate, board the tram at the pick-up point and be dropped off back at the parking lot. Parking is free.

Applied Technology Center

ach year the Applied Technology Center highlights a wide variety of topics that the University of Wisconsin-Extension specialists and agents from around the state have found to be of increasing interest among Wisconsin farmers. There is something for everyone and plenty of opportunities to visit with UWExtension specialists and agents. IRRIGATION WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS Information will be provided about computer software tools that can be used to properly schedule irrigation water application along with demonstrations of soil moisture probes that monitor soil moisture levels and use that information for irrigation scheduling. Those attendees who currently operate an irrigation system can get information on how to evaluate the water distribution uniformity of their existing system. IMPLEMENTS OF HUSBANDRY (IoH) Learn about recent changes to the Implements of Husbandry (IoH) regulations. The changes include updating the definition of agricultural vehicles, creating a new class of vehicles, increasing the weight limit for IoHs, and creating a free agricultural vehicle permit to operate greater than the new legal weight and length limits. MANURE STORAGE DESIGNS Learn about manure storage designs. Agitation and transportation of manure will be detailed to

demonstrate proper design of transport systems, including pumping to field locations with permanent and nonpermanent lines. COVER CROPS This exhibit complements the adjacent outdoor cover crops display. Talk to UW-Extension specialists and agents about selecting, establishing, managing and terminating cover crops. APPS FOR MOBILE DEVICES Smartphones and tablets offer farmers great potential for access to information while in the field. Stop by this booth to learn about apps related to agriculture. BARLEY AND HOPS Learn how UW-Extension is working with local craft brewers and local growers to help develop hops and barley varieties to meet a demand for locally-grown hops. A malting barley demonstration will be on-going throughout the show and a hand hop harvesting demonstration will be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day of the show. UW-EXTENSION SPECIALISTS AND AGENTS will be available to talk about a variety of topics including the ideal calving pen, corn silage processing, growing local foods, swine resources, documenting sustainability on the farm, and farm financial risk management â&#x20AC;&#x201C; get your dairy Farm Bill questions answered.

Progress Pavilion

rogress Pavilion exhibits support a growing tradition in Wisconsin agriculture. Sample a variety of educational exhibits from University of Wisconsin-Extension that include getting your drinking water tested, visiting with UW-Extension Master Gardeners, finding a variety of UW-Extension publications, and visiting with other agriculture partners.

DRINKING WATER QUALITY INFO & NITRATE SCREENING UW-Extension will offer a free, on-the-spot test of well water for nitrate, the most common health-related contaminant found in Wisconsin’s groundwater. While you’re there, use the online Wisconsin Well Water Viewer to view well water quality information for your area.

WEED EXPERTS Wondering what the weed is that’s choking the field, pasture or lawn and how to get rid of it? The Weed Experts will be on hand to help visitors identify weeds, answer questions about managing weeds and oversee the Biggest Weed Contest.

AGRABILITY OF WISCONSIN Learn how AgrAbility provides counseling and adaptive equipment to help farmers with disabilities or chronic illness stay in farming.

INSECT EXPERTS Is something bugging your plants or chewing through the cornfield? Ask the Insect Experts, they’re available with information about identifying and coping with insect problems. SOIL EXPERTS The Soil Experts will show visitors plants with problems caused by nutrient deficiencies and explain how to best use on-farm nutrient sources such as manure and legumes. WILDLIFE ON THE FARM UW-Extension specialists will be on hand to test your knowledge of species and answer your questions about wildlife on the farm and wildlife management. Visitors can also learn how to attract desirable wildlife and minimize wildlife damage to crops, landscapes and buildings. THE LEARNING STORE Looking for more information about exhibits and displays you’ve seen at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days? UW-Extension has many publications that cover a variety of topics. UW-Extension Educational Plots In addition to the exhibits inside the Applied Technology Center, University of Wisconsin-Extension specialists and agents have outdoor exhibits next to the tent. These exhibits include cover crops, nitrogen and water application demonstration, irrigation monitoring, drip irrigation system demonstration and safety demonstrations.

Farm Tours Farm tours run continuously throughout each day of the show beginning at 9:30 a.m. and taking approximately 25 minutes for each tour. The final farm tour of each day begins 1 hour prior to the end time of the show. Feltz Family Farms began in 1913. The farm is currently in its fourth generation, managed by Ken and Jackie Feltz. Through the years the farm has adapted and changed and expanded to its current focus on dairy cattle. Strong emphasis is placed on cow comfort to ensure high quality milk and top production. Conservation Tent Exhibits • The CONSERVATION TENT provides information and demonstrations about native plants, wildlife, soil and water. These essential resources support agriculture and rural life. • Visitors can enter a soil pit where soil scientists from the USDA – Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will describe the soils that support the diverse crops raised in Portage County. NRCS will also put on soil health demonstrations. • Visitors may learn more about soils and septic systems by talking with staff from the State Department of Safety and Professional Services. • A fish tank will feature some live sport fish species that are native to Wisconsin. • This tent will feature about twenty different exhibitors and close to thirty display booths representing a host of projects that benefit the landscapes of central Wisconsin and the people who call this place home.

his year Tillage Equipment will be making an appearance. Fourteen pieces of equipment are scheduled to participate from Case IH, Great Plains, Wishek, Summers, John Deere, Salford, Kuhn Krause, N. American Ag-Gro, Landoll and Lemken, everything from disks to vertical tillage. Along with tillage will be the latest in hay making equipment – Mowers, mergers and rakes, forage choppers and forage boxes. The Central Sand area is the vegetable basket of Wisconsin and leads the U.S. in production of many processed vegetables. There will be tours to show harvesting of sweet corn, snap beans, potatoes, cabbage and carrots (conditions permitting).

New this year is a demonstration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for use in field scouting in the Ride and Drive area at the east end of Tent City. They are valuable to Agriculture for quickly scanning fields for crop condition, weeds, insects and disease, saving hours in crop scouting time. Other Ride and Drive participating companies include Gehl skid steers, Ram Trucks, and Innovative Equipment excavator. Become familiar with how GPS guidance systems work on tractors or the latest features of Field Application Sprayers in the Large Equipment Ride and Drive area open from 9:30 to 3:30 Except Tuesday AM – access from the Field Demo tram pickup area. Ag Leader will be demonstrating OptRx sensors, which is a remote sensing device attached to a sprayer, which detects greenness of plants for variable rate application of nitrogen. New Holland and Case IH will have tractors with guidance systems and Miller St Nazianz and Case IH will have field application sprayers to tryout.

Meyer Horse Hitch - The Meyer Family then started driving the pyramid at Farm Technology Days when it was hosted in Clark County in 2005. The Pyramid Hitch is different in that the ten horses are hitched in a “bowling pin” pattern. There is one lead horse out in the front, followed by a team, then three, and four horses in back or on the wheel. What’s uncommon about the hitch is that no horse is directly in front of another horse. Milkbuds - The Milkbuds are a family of ponies. Since 1974 the Schottlers have exhibited and performed with them in states from the Midwest to the East Coast. Jesus “Chewy” Jaurequi - adheres to the caballero (vaquero or buckaroo) tradition of riding in lightness, collection on a loose rein, working the reata (lasso). These are the same roots that spawned the Spanish Riding School and other classical dressage schools of Europe. Chewy uses gentling techniques to teach the horse appropriate responses to humans.
