LNG Petition

PETITION TO SAVE OUR OCEAN

YOUR OCEAN IS UNDER ATTACK BY BIG OIL Three industrial port facilities for liquefied natural gas (LNG), a polluting, climate-changing, expensive, foreign fossil fuel, are proposed just off the New Jersey/New York coast, threatening our beaches, marine life, and economy—in short, our way of life. 1) Atlantic Sea Island Group: ironically called, “Safe Harbor Energy,” this insane proposal by a private investor firm seeks to build a massive manmade island for a LNG facility by dumping millions of tons of unknown material in the open ocean. 2) ExxonMobil: a notorious oil polluter wants to use our ocean as a lab rat with “BlueOcean Energy,” a plan to build an experimental (never built or tried) massive floating LNG terminal. A similar proposal was vetoed by California. 3) Liberty: Excalibur Energy (a new energy conglomerate of Canadian Superior Energy Inc. and Global LNG Inc.) proposes an LNG importation facility for 15 miles off Asbury Park, NJ. The source of the LNG is drilling and extracting off Trinidad and Tobago. Thus, supporting this LNG facility would promote offshore drilling in a country that already has environmental problems with oil pollution on beaches. California, Connecticut, and New York have rejected LNG projects off their coasts. Our Governors must reject them here, too. New Jersey and New York must choose green and renewable domestic energy that creates thousands of good, sustainable jobs.

We, the undersigned, oppose fossil fuel facilities in the ocean off New Jersey and New York, and support the Clean Ocean Zone, which would prohibit these polluting and destructive activities and facilities. Name
