HOW AN ENDOWMENT WORKS GIVING to MSU Athletics is an excellent way in which
you can tangibly impact the quality of education studentathletes receive. Michigan State University’s endowment accounts are pooled and invested as one Common Investment Fund thru the MSU Foundation. A portion of this annual income is distributed in accordance with guidelines set by the donor. The pool is invested over an infinite time horizon with the goal of maintaining the value in real terms, thus providing a steady flow of income in perpetuity.

There are many ways to establish an endowment and the arrangements for every gift can be personalized to fit your specific needs. Gifts of cash and securities are traditional forms of support. In addition, making a planned gift via bequest, charitable remainder trust, or charitable gift annuity may allow you to make significant contributions that may not otherwise be possible during your lifetime. Suggested language: “I give and devise to Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, the sum of $_______ (or state percentage of estate) to be held, administered, and used by the Board of Trustees for support of Michigan State University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. I instruct that all of my charitable gifts shall be made, to the extent possible, from property that constitutes “income in respect of a decedent” as that term is defined in the Internal Revenue Code.” All endowment gifts are 100% tax-deductible. Located at the north end of Spartan Stadium, the Endowment Wall serves as a landmark for those wishing to leave a legacy and forever associate themselves with MSU Athletics. In addition, MSU Athletics will periodically host an event,
providing the opportunity for donors to meet current Spartan student-athletes and learn how their gifts are impacting
today’s students.
