Dear Colleague: I wanted to share with you directly our streamlined procedure for treating potential Kyphoplasty patients in our office. As you can see, if your patients have a compression fracture, they are put on an accelerated evaluation and treatment schedule. Those who meet the criteria for Kyphoplasty will be seen within 2 weeks. Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions about this procedure or our treatment plans.
Kyphoplasty Procedures Office Procedure Policy #801 Effective Date: 5/1/12
Purpose: To make certain those patients with compression fractures are scheduled for an appointment and treated in a timely fashion so as to avoid the need for more intensive care if treated later.
Procedure: 1. Patients who are referred (including self-referrals) to Michigan Neurosurgical Institute, PC, with compression fractures will be seen within 48 hours. •
The patient will be scheduled for an appointment and evaluated to determine if he or she is a candidate for kyphoplasty.

Response from Dr. Jackson within 4 hours after evaluation.
2. Patients who meet the criteria for a kyphoplasty will be scheduled for a procedure within 2 weeks. •
The patient will be scheduled for the procedure, at which time clearances will be requested.
3. The following criteria must be present for the patient to be considered a candidate for the procedure: •
Injury/problem is 6-8 weeks old
•
Patient is 60 years of age or older
•
There is pain in response to percussion
•
The compression fracture is less than 1 year old
