40 Year Timeline Unveiling
On the first day of Term 1, 2022, it was a delight to watch the unveiling of an amazing illustrated 40 year timeline of the College. The timeline includes enrolment figures and key events that have taken place over the last 40 years. We were privileged to have our Founding and Executive Principal, Mr Graeme Irwin, join our College Principal, Mrs Pam O’Dea as they cut the ribbon together. They are the only two principals who have served in this role in the history of SPCC Newcastle! Students will have the opportunity to view the timeline as we celebrate 40 years since the College began!

40 Year Celebration Service The 4th of February, 2022 was an historic and significant day in the life of the College, as staff, students, alumni, community (past and present), and special guests gathered in person and online to celebrate 40 years of Christian education at St Philip’s Christian College, Newcastle. During the Celebration and Thanksgiving Service, representatives from 40 years of graduating classes participated in a procession as key events from each year were highlighted. It was also a great privilege to honour our Founding and Executive Principal, Mr Graeme Irwin AM and his family, for their service to the College over 40 years.

ALC Groundbreaking Ceremony On Friday 4th February, we were excited to hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony, where we officially turned the soil for our new Active Learning Centre! The Active Learning Centre will be a dynamic and vibrant space, accommodating sport, dance and gym facilities, whilst seamlessly connecting to, and completing, existing VET, Theatre and Music facilities. Construction is due to commence this term, and we are grateful for the partnership with our architects at SHAC and the building team at Richard Crookes Constructions for this unique project.

Submarine Team Gains Industry Sponsorship Over the past year, five senior school students have been working to develop a remotely controlled submarine to represent the Hunter at the NSW Subs in Schools State Finals in February 2022. Their intent is not only to represent the Hunter, but, if successful, represent NSW at the Australian National Finals in April 2022. As there are several components to this competition, they have been working through the summer break to finalise work on their competition submarine (a 1.2 meter remote controlled underwater vehicle capable of navigating a challenging undertaker obstacle course). As part of the competition, students are responsible to gain sponsorship from local businesses to cover development and competition costs, such as: • • • •
Electrical and Mechanical Components Team Uniforms Components for the Trade Display Travel and Accommodation for the State competition
The following businesses have graciously stepped forward (in a very challenging COVID year) to assist our students in this endeavour: Bluezone Group (mentoring) 3ME Technology (financial) Switched On Maintenance (financial) SPCC Waratah (financial) Signwave Graphics (financial) Waratah General Practice (financial) British Aerospace (consultancy) Googas (crowd funding) Newcastle University – Mechatronics Department (consultancy) Please join me in thanking these community-minded businesses for their generous support of our Subs in Schools competition team. HSC RESULTS
ST PHILIP'S CHRISTIAN COLLEGE - NEWCASTLE
2021
Congratulations Class of 2021 Congratulations to Year 12 2021 students on such outstanding HSC results. We are incredibly proud of the persevering attitude of our Year 12 students during 2021, thus enabling them to overcome the many challenges faced during their Preliminary and HSC years, in order to achieve success. On behalf of the St Philip’s Christian College Newcastle community, we want to thank Year 12 students, parents and staff for the support, effort and partnership that has contributed to producing these excellent results. No matter how long your SPCC journey has been, each student has contributed something special and unique for which we are grateful. It has been a privilege to be a part of their education at this point in time, and we are confident of their success in the future. The students of Year 12 2021 have achieved outstanding results, with the College ranked 118th in NSW and 3rd in the Hunter Region. Students achieved 69 Band 6’s (90+), and of these, 4 students were Top Achievers, being ranked in the top 10 in NSW, and 1 student was named as an All-Rounder, receiving Band 6 results in at least 10 units of the courses studied. Congratulations Year 12 2021! Thank you for all you have contributed to the SPCC community. We wish you the very best for the future, and would be delighted if you remain connected with the College, particularly as we celebrate our 40th year.
