Brewery Tour Thursday, November 3 Course# 8042-FSA

Craft beer has a long history in Minnestoa. In this class, Certified Cicerone (beer sommelier) Michael Agnew leads you on a tour of two metro microbreweries that are at opposite ends of the industry spectrum. Flat Earth Brewing Company is a small-scale operation that opened in 2007. Flat Earth annually crafts 1500 barrels of unique and tasty beers in a 15-barrel, manually-operated brewhouse. Founded in 1986, Summit Brewing Company is a pioneer in the industry. It produces 90,000 barrels a year on its 200-barrel, fully automated system. At each stop we’ll talk to brewers, learn how beer is made, and sample the wares of two of the metro area’s finest breweries. • Registration for this tour is required by October 19. Guide: S. Mansee Fee: $40. Fee includes tours, mini-coach transportation and guides.

St. Louis and The Great River Road Monday-Friday, May 14-18, 2012 Course# 8044-FSA

Senior Programs

The Mighty Mississippi River provides the theme for this five-day excursion into the Heartland of America. At La Crosse, we join Wisconsin’s Great River Road – Wisconsin’s only National Scenic Byway. Drive through some of the oldest communities in the state en route to historic Galena, Illinois, named by Forbes magazine as one of the Ten Prettiest Towns in America. Wander along Main St. amidst fine antique shops, boutiques, historical points of interest, and picturesque 1800s architecture. Our overnight and dinner will be in nearby East Dubuque, Illinois. Day two includes a visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois. Immerse yourself in everything about our 16th President. Continue to St. Louis, Missouri, for a two-night stay. A full-day here includes a guided tour to see sights such as the downtown riverfront and the historic neighborhoods, Forest Park, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales. Our trip is not complete without a visit to the Gateway Arch. This is home to the Museum of Westward Expansion, an IMAX Theater, and a chance to visit the top of the Arch! Traveling towards home, visit the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum in Hannibal, Missouri. Our final stop is in Dubuque, Iowa, where a riverboat dinner cruise caps off the day. Bound for home on the Great River Road, two great attractions await us. Historic Prairie du Chien’s Villa Louis showcases the estate of a wealthy businessman from the 1840s. In Fountain City, Elmer’s Auto and Toy Museum will surprise you with a collection of antique autos, toys, and dolls, and is said to be one of the largest of its kind in the nation.
