Arts Abstract Acrylic Painting: Emphasis Design This class is designed as a structured introduction to working abstract or semi-abstract successfully. The class will include traditional color schemes and compositions while introducing contemporary painting techniques.

Students may add an element of realism by bringing a photo of themselves to paint. A supply fee of $5 is payable to the instructor for canvas, or a supply list is available.

In this two-day workshop, learn how to create a lovely landscapes with variety of approaches. Arts Wet-In-Wet Watercolor Experiment with a variety of watercolor techniques and materials while painting scenes such as still life, landscapes and flowers. Demonstrations and individual instruction will focus on discovering your skills and increasing confidence.

Driving Classes CarFit: Ensuring Your Car’s Safest Fit Do your car’s adjustable features fit you properly?

Receive a quick but comprehensive check of how you and your vehicle work together. A trained volunteer will ask simple questions and complete a 12-point CarFit checklist. The entire process takes about 20 minutes per driver. Leave with recommended car adjustments and adaptations, a list of resources in the area, and greater peace of mind. CarFit is not a driver assessment program, and any identifying information will be kept confidential.

The code is based on the level of activity and physical ability rather than age. On the scale, 1 is the least demanding and appropriate for those with limited mobility who need to be able to board the bus on their own and 5 is the most demanding, requiring a high level of physical fitness and mobility. Have you always wanted to visit and learn basic information about the many faith traditions of the Twin Cities? This tour will take us to four distinct locations. Since 1965, the Church of Scientology of Twin Cities has been welcoming people through their doors. The Church of Scientology of Twin Cities is now the largest Scientology facility in the American midwest and serves parishioners from Wisconsin to the Dakotas. Our day will also take us from small quaint and historical St. Martin’s by-the-Lake Episcopal Church to Grace Church, considered a “mega church” with a nondinominational congregation of Baptist heritage. They wil provide an organ presentation for our enjoyment. We will conclude the day with a visit ot the recently renovated Vietnamese Buddhist Phat An Temple in Roseville. Stars and Statues Thursday, May 16 Course # 8061-SSA Tour Rating: 44 Become a kid again as you gaze into a night sky from your comfortable seat in the Saint Paul Public Schools’ Planetarium. Which planets are visible? Where are they?

Which constellations can be easily seen? Then, blast off from earth and tour the planets and other objects in the solar system. Following the Planetarium, you will experience the Remembrances and Memorials on the State Capitol Mall.

Take a trip along Lake Michigan, featuring the Windy City, Dutch heritage, sand dunes, horse drawn carriages and water at every turn.

Our excursion takes us across America’s Dairyland for an overnight stop north of Chicago, with a narrated morning tour of Chicago and a lunch stop at Navy Pier. From there, we will travel to Holland, Michigan, a community inviting the world to celebrate the Dutch heritage during the Holland Tulip Time Festival. This world renown festival showcases Holland’s dynamic community, spectacular tulips, and authentic Dutch architecture. Onward we go to The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Northern Michigan.

Sleeping Bear Dunes voted by Good Morning America viewers as one of the most beautiful places in the country, with its collection of sand dunes that peak at over 400 feet. Beautiful Traverse City will provide our accommodations on Wednesday. Thursday, we will head to Mackinac Island aboard the Star Line Ferry, the boat that produces a 35-foot rooster tail spray. While crossing, drink in the spectacular scenery including the world’s longest suspension bridge that connects Michigan’s two peninsulas. Since 1887, the Grand Hotel, the crown jewel of the secluded island, beckons visitors to a bygone era of old-world hospitality and charm. It is here that we find the Grand Luncheon Buffet, extending nearly 100 feet providing offerings beyond compare. Save room for the dessert table’s 20+ selections. When the feast concludes, enjoy a narrated, horse-drawn carriage tour where we will see Arch Rock, the Governor’s Mansion and Surrey Hill. Continue the nautical theme with a visit to the famous Soo Locks, a National Historic Site that has been allowing ships from around the world access to the heartland of America since 1855. Enjoy a narrated dinner cruise through the two longest locks in the world, right alongside the giant freighters. We will spend the tail end of the trip on the Upper Peninsula, with a visit to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and the incredible Tahquamenon Falls on the way to Escanaba for our final overnight. Our trip home will take us through the North Woods of Wisconsin and include a visit to a real Lumberjack Camp. Discover the only place in the world where you can see all fifteen crane species, the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Experience the unique on our tour of the National Mustard Museum, one of the world’s largest collections of prepared mustards and mustard memorabilia. In New Glarus “Little Switzerland”, you will check into the Chalet Landhaus Inn for a two-night stay. All six New England states will be visited on this inclusive tour which has been planned by local tour operator Landmark Tours. This trip includes flights between Minneapolis and Boston where a deluxe motorcoach will be waiting. Boston is a treasure chest of history and we’ll start there. Lexington and Concord are included, as well as a day trip by ferry to Martha’s Vineyard.

We’ll visit Newport to see the mansions of wealthy industrialists and journey into the Connecticut River alley. See the quaint village of Stowe in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Franconia Notch in New Hampshire is filled with scenic attractions. Travel to “The Pine Tree State” of Maine for an authentic lobster bake. The scenic drive down the spectacular Atlantic Coast will bring us full circle back to Boston. Leave the worries behind as your driver and tour director lead you through an itinerary designed with comfortable lodging, excellent dining and a sensible pace.

Registration is taken by phone, by mail, in person, or online at www.commed.spps.org. Please make checks payable to ISD 625.

Refunds

Registration is taken by the Senior Programs Office at Harding High School, 1540 East 6th Street, Saint Paul, MN 55106. Office hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Saint Paul Community Education reserves the right to cancel classes due to lack of enrollment or emergencies.

•Refunds minus a $5 processing fee will only be issued if requested three (3) business days prior to the start of the first day of class. No refunds will be given after a class has started.

•For classes and tours that have a published cancellation deadline, no refunds or credits will be issued after the specified dates.

•Full refunds or credits are issued if Community Education cancels a class or tour, or the class or tour is already filled.

Persons with disabilities are welcome in any class or activity and may bring a helper at no extra charge in most cases (please call first). If you need a reasonable accommodation, contact the Community Education Office where you are registering.
