GENERAL INFORMATION Currency: Real (R$). Dollars, Euros and checks can be changed easily at hotels, authorized banks and exchanges. Most establishments accept all the major international credit cards. Visas and passports: European or South American passport holders do not require entry visas. But English and Spanish are frequently spoken in hotels and tourist centers so as better to serve the tourists. Time zones: Brazil spans 4 different time zones. Brasilia time (the capital) is the national standard, and is 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time. In the summer, 10 Brazilian States, plus the Federal District, put their clocks forward one hour. Voltage: In most cities of Brazil the voltage is 110 or 220 volts. You should check before plugging in any device. Plugs adopt these standards.
