BCA-USA MIRROR
PRESIDENT’S WELCOME MESSAGE unity with our friends, family, communities and chapters. So, as we return to the birth place of BCAUSA for our 30th convention, we want to celebrate and cherish the unity that has bound us over the last three decades. We have had our challenges as an organization. Our unity has been put to test time and time again. Nevertheless, our resilience has enabled us to keep forging ahead to make an imperfect organization more perfect. We have grown from a small family reunion to a large organization. This Year alone we have grown from 366 members in 2016 to a new all-time record of over 500 registered members. Driving this growth is our ability to innovate and grow as an organization. But the overriding conviction is that working together, we can do more in our community here and back home. Considering that Atlanta was the host city of our Ni Clarence Ndangam very first convention and given that this will be our first convention with an elected Board of Directors, I Dear Members and Friends am pleased to announce that our Keynote Speaker at n behalf of the National Executive this year’s convention will be the Chair of our Board Committee (NEC) and Board of Directors of Directors, Ba Fogam who will further elaborate (BOD) of Bali Cultural Association in USA on the convention theme. (BCA-USA), I am honored to welcome you to the I invite you, your family and friends, to join us 30th Annual BCA-USA Convention hosted this year as we use this weekend to celebrate our successes by the Southern Chapter in Atlanta. and to deliberate on ways to keep strengthening BCA-USA’s annual convention is the premier unity in our community here and back home. international gathering of Bali people in the Thank you and God Bless BCA-USA● Diaspora. The event has evolved to a weeklong Bali cultural festival to celebrate our rich heritage. Clarence Ndangam The convention is also an opportunity to educate National President, BCA-USA international audiences and children born in the president@bca-usa.org Diaspora about our rich African cultural values.

UNITY
Our theme for this year’s convention is unity. BCA USA was born in Atlanta in 1988, as a gathering dedicated to promoting the social, educational, and cultural well-being of the Bali people in the Diaspora. At the core of BCA-USA’s foundation was solidarity. Reflecting on our journey since inception, unity has been front, center and right in all we do: BCA-USA.ORG

F
ellow BCA-USA members, friends, supporters, and well-wishers, on behalf of the BCA-USA Southern Chapter, I would like to welcome you, to this very special occasion as we celebrate our 30th annual convention. Atlanta, GA is where this all began 30 years ago when Bali people decided to come together, to support each other, and loved ones while celebrating our culture. Today Atlanta still hosts the majority of the Southern chapter members. This chapter has been through some tough times since the last time we hosted the convention, and we are proud to say we are back and here to stay! The good thing about falling is that the only way is up. Also, when you get up it is a testament to your strength. This chapter is made up of very hardworking and persistent members who choose only between success and triumph. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them for believing in this chapter enough to dedicate all the many hours to make this venture and the convention a great success. With the relentless support and continual help of the National Executive Officers (NEO), National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Convention Planning Committee (CPC), the Southern chapter has planned an unforgettable event for you all. From a cozy welcome dinner on Wednesday night to a cultural welcome and introduction on Thursday, to a peek into the fabulous lives of stars

in the Hollywood of the South on Friday’s Night of Glamour, to Saturday’s general assembly and gala dance, to Sunday’s cultural jamboree, we have something for everyone. Our Social Committee has also developed a fun filled program for the kids as well. Please make time to attend and participate in all the different activities so that you can get the most out of your stay here. It is a new day in BCA-USA, starting from a brand-new NEO, NEC, and Board of Directors as well as the fact that we have had 30 years to practice and learn from our mistakes. We understand that there is always room to grow and strive to outdo ourselves with each year. Have you ever noticed how most states have smaller and remote cities as their capital? Well, you have come to one of the exceptions, and we promise you exceptional experiences. Atlanta is the home of landmarks and attractions such as Coca-Cola, CNN, Centennial Olympic Park, Grant Park, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, Oakland Cemetery, Stone Mountain Park, Underground Atlanta, host of the 2019 Super Bowl, and much more. All we ask is that you participate and have fun. Thank you all and welcome to Atlanta!● Ma Esona Fomuso President of Southern Chapter & Co-Chair of 2017 Convention Planning Committee.

Ba Joe Fomukong, SG
S
Dear BCA-USA members and Friends of good will, incere thanks for your continuous support to this beloved organization. Immense thanks to the National Executive Council (NEC) for volunteering their time in serving BCA-USA. As you know, NEC meets every last Sunday of the month, but following the Nkap Ntod occurrences NEC had to meet for three additional emergency calls. On top of that, they also found time to meet with the Board of Directors (BOD). BCA-USA held two town hall conference calls, once in September 2016 and another in March 2017. During these calls, committee chairs and chapter presidents had a chance to share information on the various activities they were engaged in. As was intended, this was open to questions and discussions with the members. Permit me to take this opportunity to encourage you all to make it a habit of attending these calls. That is one important way to share updates on how the association is doing with every single member. To facilitate communications between the executives and the committees and ensure the smooth running of the association, each member of the executive is a member of at least one committee, wherein they participate in regular calls and take
feedback to the executives for further considerations where necessary. It also ensures that there exist a two way channel of information flow between the committees and the executive body of our association. With the exception of Tuesdays (Executive calls), end of month (NEC calls) and first Sunday of the month (Prayer line), each committee has selected a day and time to meet via conference calls. Some committees meet every week while others do so on alternate weeks. I am delighted to inform you that all of BCA-USA committees, sub and ad-hoc committees are very active. Most committees have completed their Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) documents. This document serves as guidance to each committee in accordance with the BCA-USA constitution and by-laws. 1. Cultural Committee: Ni Samkeah Titanji Chair: The culture committee has revamped Thursday and Sunday cultural night activities while promoting the Bali culture within the USA. Developing cultural events blueprint is near completion. 2. Education Committee: Ma Evelyn Mima Dohvoma - Chair: The education committee seeks to enhance the education of Bali children by promoting educational achievements and literacy for children at the elementary and secondary school levels. To reach those goals, this committee awarded scholarships and paid teacher salaries in Bali. The committee also looked at various options of setting up the MPC library. 3. Electoral & Constitution Committee: Ni Edwin Fogam - Chair: Provide legal guidance to BCAUSA in areas of general operations, finances, and elections. 4. Fundraising Committee: Ma Marie Nangah Chair: The FRC is charged with coordinating the Finish Line fundraising for the MPC and other BCA-USA fundraising endeavors.

he Bali Cultural Association USA for 30 years has demonstrated this guiding principle through development projects and programs in Bali Nyonga, Cameroon, Africa. Likewise, the BCA-USA Fundraising Committee, over the years has taken meaningful actions to raise funds to foster BCA-USA’s development projects, with a primary focus on the Bali Multipurpose Center (MPC) Project. For the 2016-2017 BCA-USA fiscal year, the Fundraising Committee (FRC) enthusiastically embarked on raising $100,000.00+ for the Bali Multipurpose Center. To meet this goal, the committee launched The Finish Line Campaign to solicit donations from Bali groups, families, and individuals in the diaspora. Moreover, this fundraiser encourages all Bali people to be part of Bali History by donating and having their names in the MPC Donor Book ($500), and on a Donor Wall Brick ($1000). FRC members were tasked to each donate a minimum of $500 to the MPC and to solicit and secure a minimum of $4,000 in donations to the MPC. Additionally, the FRC aimed for 30 VIP packages and over 200 gold packages to help meet the fundraising goal for the MPC. Through teamwork and amazing BCA-USA donors, the MPC Finish Line Campaign has been an overwhelming success. The campaign was effectively activated during the 2016 Leadership Summit with over $50,000 in donations and commitments, of which $16,477 was collected on site. Thus, making history as the largest amount raised at a BCA-USA Leadership Summit. This historic momentum was followed by FRC members

been positive, encouraging and exciting. Thanks to FRC’s teamwork and mostly to our outstanding donors, the MPC Finish Line Campaign is raising 100,000.00 + to facilitate the completion of the MPC. In addition to raising funds for the MPC, the FRC hosted an exquisite Night of Glamour Charity Ball 2017, with the theme of “Hollywood Premiere” in Atlanta GA, the Hollywood of the South. The FRC appreciates all BCA-USA members. We are grateful for your choice to actively belong and contribute to the association. Our utmost appreciation goes to all MPC Donors, for your amazing generosity and sacrifice to enhance the progress of the less fortunate. Through your charitable actions, you are making a meaningful investment in the lives of others and leaving an honorable legacy. As you give, so shall you receive abundance of blessings, joy, peace and happiness. Thank You! To the 2016-2017 MPC Finish Line Donors, you have made a mighty statement. Bali people are indeed leaders in all capacities! Our generosity exemplifies our success and blessings as individuals and as a collective Bali Family. Thank You! Special thanks to the Fundraising Committee Members (Glam Squad), for unity and passion within the committee, and dedication to raising funds for the MPC. Your service within FRC is admirable, and I am blessed to serve BCA-USA with supportive, glamorous and hardworking members. Our positive energy and teamwork has made fundraising history! STRIVING TO IMPROVE HEALTHCARE IN BALI By Ni Nubia Kaba, Chair of Health Committee

s part of its focus on promoting health and wellness within the Bali community in Bali and the USA, the health committee organizes health screenings, provides health tips and also oversees the procurement and delivery of medical supplies for healthcare facilities in Bali. Thanks to the generous donation of BCA members and supporters, the committee was able to deliver medical supplies to the Integrated Health Centre at Bohsa where they staff were deeply grateful. On behalf of the staff of Bohsa Integrated Health Center and all the patients seen at this facility, we say a big thank you to all who donated in support of this project. The committee conducted a health screening at the Catholic Hospital Wo'on where participants were screened for hypertension, obesity and diabetes by volunteers from BCA. Thank you to all who volunteered on the day. One of the major challenges facing the committee is to raise funds to acquire much needed supplies for these under resourced healthcare facilities. While we continue to seek ways to raise funds to enable us acquire and deliver medical supplies to health care facilities in Bali, we also recommend that the budget for the Health Committee be increased substantially, in order for the committee to be able to carry out reasonable and effective health projects in Bali. During the convention in Atlanta, we would be running a fundraising drive called “Leave your
change behind for health” in order to raise funds for health projects in Bali. Every little donation helps us toward accomplishing our goals. THE BCA COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM (COP) By Ma Candice Ngwa, Vice Chair of Membership Committee
D
uring the last BCA-USA Leadership Summit in Charlotte, NC, a resolution was passed creating an Annual Community Volunteer Program ad-hoc committee (ACVP) which will serve under the umbrella of BCA-USA Membership Committee. Its objectives are simple: • To organize and coordinate BCA-USA members to volunteer at local charities of their host cities during the year. • To work with local chapters to get involved in their local communities by creating a BCA-USA Volunteer Month, where BCA-USA members volunteer at local charities. They may even coordinate and organize when necessary. This program is still in its formative phase. Its main goal is working with chapters to make volunteering easy. The BCA-USA Community Outreach Program (COP) seeks to initiate, develop and coordinate volunteer activities at local charitable organizations throughout the year as well as during the annual conventions. The aim is to encourage BCA members to become involved in their local communities by providing voluntary support to organizations and initiatives that impact the community. There are many benefits to volunteering. Giving of our time to our local communities enhances BCA-USA's visibility in communities where our members reside while

also teaching our children and future leaders the importance of giving back. It will also help BCAUSA youths distinguish themselves among their peers during the college application process. This initiative is led by a sub-committee of the Membership Committee. The sub-committee will assist chapters interested in conducting a local outreach/volunteer initiative.
FINDING THE RIGHT CHARITY ORGANIZATION
Prior to committing to a volunteer opportunity, chapters should consider: time, area of focus or interest and available skills of its members. Volunteer services need to be directed solely to legitimate non-profit and charitable organizations that accept volunteering by groups. Also consider organizations with opportunities at a time frame that a local BCA-USA chapter can commit to and that members will enjoy doing. Look for organizations that work with adults as well as kids. That way the event can be enjoyed by different age groups. Lastly, when selecting local charitable organizations to volunteer for, please ensure that the job descriptions of a volunteer should carry no liability to BCA-USA. The safety of volunteers should be prioritized when choosing a site. Our sub-committee will work with any chapter that is considering a volunteer event to help with planning and other logistics. To help track and record volunteer hours, we request that after each volunteer event, the chapter sends us a report indicating the number

of participants (our youths especially) and hours, date of event and organization. We will be awarding certificates of appreciation to chapters and individual certifications to our youths for them to keep in their portfolios. THE HISTORY OF BCA-USA: THE FACTS By Muted Fofung, Pioneer President November 1988 - May 1990 During the July 4th weekend of 1988, Bali people and well-wishers converged in Oklahoma City to celebrate the life of my mother. While together, we as a group disseminated the information about launching the Bali social group. Then on November 26, 1988, a group of Bali brothers and sisters met at Clark Atlanta University, where the Bali Cultural Association-USA (also referred to as the Bali Family Reunion) was launched in the spirit of communalism. MA CANDICE NGWA: FROM ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TO PRESIDENT OF BCA NORTHERN TEXAS In 2015, Ma Candice Ngwa accepted a relative’s invitation to attend the annual convention in Houston. Prior to that, her membership in BCA had been inconsistent and she had not been to a BCA convention since 2009. Participating in the convention changed her mind about the organization. Shortly after that, she signed up to serve in the health and the fundraising committees respectively. In 2016, she received the BCA-USA Rookie of the Year Award – a award granted to newly recruited BCA-USA committee or chapter member who has exemplified exceptional commitment to the association through service, time and resources. In August 2016, the newly elected president Ni Clarence Ndangam tapped her to serve as Vice Chair of the Membership Committee – a role she embraced at the same time that she assumed the role of secretary in the Fundraising Committee. As Vice Chair of the Membership Committee, Ma Candice spearheaded the creation of the Community Outreach Program and now heads the adhoc committee coordinating the initiative. In February this year she worked with BCA Oklahoma Chapter members to undertake a volunteer day at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank on February 18 - the first such event for the chapter. During this year’s convention, she led BCA Youths on a community volunteer initiative helping to sort and box medical supplies for the humanitarian aid organization Medshare in Decatur, Georgia. On March 26, as part of chapter restructuring efforts led by three former BCA-USA presidents, Ma Candice was unanimously elected president of BCA Northern Texas Chapter. Ma Candice has not only given of her time and expertise to BCA-USA, but has donated substantially to the organization. This fiscal year, she contributed over $6500 to the MPC project – the largest ever contribution to the project made by an individual. In two years, she has gone from zero donations to BCA-USA being an MPC 32

Diamond Club Donor – a recognition for those who have cumulatively given 10K or more to the project. Later this year, she will co-chair the Convention Planning Committee as her chapter prepares to host BCA-USA 30th Anniversary celebrations in Dallas in 2018. BCA-USA Mirror talked to Ma Candice to find out about her remarkable journey from being a BCA-USA rookie to BCA chapter president of a chapter that she describes as a “force to be reckoned with in BCA-USA”. BCA-USA Mirror: Thank you for taking our questions. In the interest of those who know little or nothing about you can you please tell us about yourself? Ma Candice: Just so you know, it’s very uncomfortable doing this interview. I’m Candice Ndebabonga Akwa, daughter of Ba Rodins Foncham Akwa and Ma Georgina Nundabndab Akwa, both of late. I’m a middle child (no middle child syndrome phenomenon in play here!) I have five sisters and one brother, who is also of late. I’m a passionate, dedicated, responsible, strong-willed, introverted Bali woman. Our compound in Bali Nyonga is in Paila. I moved to the United States 20 years ago, and have lived most of those years in the great state of Texas. Tyler is presently where I call home. I’m a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by profession. Blue is my favorite color, I love classic Westerns and animated movies. I love the San Antonio Spurs. “Go Spurs Go!” BCA-USA Mirror: You have been in the USA for a while but only recently decided to join and become active in BCA-USA. What took you so long and what made you decide to join? If I have to summarize the answer to this question in one word, I’ll say “timing.” And to elaborate on it, I’ll say there’s time for everything by God’s
BCA-USA MIRROR design. I probably wouldn’t have been this involved and dedicated to the organization if I got involved earlier. Over the years, they were one or two times that I paid my dues like most people did. I wasn’t too familiar with BCA-USA during my earlier years in the United States, but I knew of its existence. I remember back in the late 90s and early 2000s, when I’ll talk to my late dad, the conversation won’t end without him asking me if I’ve joined BCA-USA. He used to have all the current BCA-USA almanacs that used to be printed back in the days, and he’ll name all our relatives who were in it. I know he’s very happy that I finally got involved in BCA. Life is all about stages, and with every stage having different priorities. My education was my number priority at many of those stages. Then, there was the negative press about BCAUSA and I said to myself “I don’t want to be involved with such an organization.” Then came 2015 convention in Houston, my second Texas home. I was encouraged to attend by Ma Valuma Tangeh, and that’s family. So I decided to attend and initially my goal was to go and have fun. When I got there, my mindset changed. I decided that I was going to attend all the activities, which I did. What sold BCA-USA to me was the General Assembly. I sat in that hall and learned about BCA-USA and what has been accomplished so far. I was sold! I even got a call from Ba Sam Ngati, then BCA-USA President, wanting to know my convention
experience and if I had any questions. Very few organization presidents will do that, but BCAUSA is one of them. That same year, I attended the leadership summit in Washington DC. At the summit, I found out that as a BCA-USA member, I have a voice and it matters. I spoke and was heard. I reevaluated BCA-USA, and decided it was a structurally sound organization, doing lots of good to our people in Bali. So, how can I not be part of this? And as you know, the rest is history.

During the formal installation of the Northern Texas chapter by the national envoy led by Ba Titamohkumi, Ba Sam Ngati and Ni Julius Ndangam, I went in for the position of chapter president. I know this last year’s involvement at the national level prepared me for this role. I’ve learned a lot and still have much more to learn.

stronger than ever. The general BCA-USA will have to wait until convention 2018, to see proofs of that. We are Bali people and wherever we find ourselves on the map, the most important thing is to congregate as a family. That’s my vision for the chapter: oneness. BCA-USA Mirror: Besides being president of Northern Texas, you juggle various positions in BCAUSA committees (Vice Chair of Membership Committee and Chair of the Sub-Committee on Community Outreach, and Secretary of Fundraising Committee). What is it like to serve in a leadership position in BCA-USA? Tell us some of the joys and challenges of serving these different portfolios? When you list them out in that manner, it looks like I’m everywhere. Honestly, it’s a lot of work, but it has to be done. It’s our organization, and it’s not just me. We have many members that have been doing it for 30 years, and have not given up regardless of the sacrifices they’ve had to
BCA-USA MIRROR make. Serving in these many roles, exposes me to the different structures of the organization. I get to learn more about and know the organization quicker. Most importantly, I get to serve the organization, and in so doing serve the people it serves. Challenges in serving in these many roles and committees are expected. The first one I’ll address is staying and maintaining focus. Being a leader yourself and involved in different areas in the organization, you know what I’m talking about. The demand on your attention comes from different angles. Multiple conference calls, multiple things that need to be addressed (you can’t ignore any). At the end of the day, it’s all about prioritizing. I can only tell you that I’m still learning and I have not been able to balance that yet. My second challenge is as local chapter president, balancing the needs of my chapter members and the needs of the organization. As proudly Bali folks, I’ll have to pay attention to both. As you well know, this a new role for me. All I can say is my priority is for Northern Texas chapter to grow stronger, because I know that the growth of BCA-USA depends on the strength of local chapters. One could say local chapters form the deep seated roots of BCAUSA. The stronger they are, the more indestructible BCA-USA becomes. Let me now switch over to the joys of serving in a leadership role in BCA-USA. I am inspired by the pride and joy of being Bali. There’s none like BCAUSA. My service to our people,
through the projects that BCAUSA carries out in Bali Nyonga. I consider myself mightily blessed. The opportunities we have here in the United States, our family members back in Bali don’t have. BCA-USA has been changing lives of some of our folks back home for decades now, and with the Bali Multi Purpose Center infrastructure nearing completion, they’ll be able to have opportunities which would never have been possible. Service to me is everything. Any little contribution that I can make to keep the organization fulfill its needs all hands on deck. Think mission, is joyful enough for me. about this. If BCA-USA wasn’t doing most things right, will we be celebrating our 30th Annual Convention? Think about that! I consider myself a billboard “What I’ll tell all for BCA-USA’s inclusiveness. BCA NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER REBIRTH: ENGAGEMENT AND GROWTH By Ma Judith Fokum, Chapter President BCA-USA New England chapter was created in April 2007 under the leadership of Ba Titamohkumi. Our Massachusetts branch is the only Ndahkum, of this chapter. After hosting the annual Leadership Summit in 2008 and operating for a couple of years, the group went into hibernation until its revival in October 2016 by our able and charismatic Ba President, Ni Clarence Ndangam. Since its rebirth there has been renewed interest and enthusiasm among members and the group has grown from a handful to 21 registered members and our kids. We encourage our brothers and sisters who are out there to join us. Our group is unique in its diversity. Our goal is to support and help each other with particular attention to our kids. Twelve of our members participate in the NkapNtod and more plan to join during open enrollment in 2017

Our goals for the future is to build on the current momentum within the chapter by continuing our regular meetings. In addition we plan to get our children to be more active in the meeting and get them to share ideas among themselves to help each other. The youths are working on a communication forum to facilitate this. Additionally, we are organizing a community service program and have identified two areas to focus on. We will participate at the all Cameroon cultural day celebration in Massachusetts where we will showcase our Bali traditional dance●

Nkumu Fed Fed Despite these numerous Ndakums we are still proud of our diversity which by no means is a barrier to our unity and cultural show offs. In March this year, this diversity and unity was exemplified by the successful and colorful annual cultural extravaganza which made news all over social media with highly positive reviews. It took the special support from the Nas and the Bas, the creativity of buwi Nyonga was very significant in making the event successful. Last year Nchunyin and Ndantod took to the debate stage on a heated and highly controversial subject “should parents have a say in children’s marriage.“ In the end Nchunyin won earning themselves a trophy and a hundred dollars reward. They argued that parents should stay away from their children marriages. The chief moderator was none other than our honorable ladies Doctor Ma Theresa Gwanfogbe from Nkumu Fed Fed. Eastern chapter has come this far in a relatively short span of time. During the cultural Festival, an interim executive was announced which comprised

Eastern Chapter is excited to be fully present at the convention. Atlanta be ready! Hurricane Eastern is on the way. Word in the streets and news is indicating a category 5 level storm. To sum it all, the state of Eastern Chapter is stronger than ever before and we continue to make a lot of progress● BCA-USA.ORG

With the resolution passed on the restructuring of BCA-USA during the Leadership Summit of 2008 in Boston BCA chapter structures were reorganized. BCAUSA Northern Texas Chapter with headquarters in Dallas, covers the northern region of the state of Texas and also the state of New Mexico. In attendance were the special envoys, as well Ni Clarence Ndangam, National President; Ba Fogam, Chair of BOD; and Ma Kehmia Tangeh, BCA-USA PR. The installation ceremony drew support from

our neighboring chapters- BCAUSA Oklahoma and the Southern Texas Chapter. Oklahoma came with three cars full, led by the Chapter President Ni Sama Jangha. Sons and daughters of Bali in the Dallas Fort Worth area and from far and wide came out in numbers. During the meeting, Ba Sam presented an overview of the mission; Ni Julius Ndangam highlighted the importance of chapter empowerment; and Ba Titamohkumi oversaw the election and installation of the new chapter executives. With recommendations from the

former Presidents and with agreement from the Northern Texas Chapter members, only the position of President was up for election with the newly-elected President given the discretion of appointing his/her executives. The National President addressed the house and encouraged all sons and daughters of Bali to get involved. He added that BCA-USA is not perfect and faces challenges, and finding solutions to those challenges are key. Ba Fogam, Chair of the BOD also addressed the meeting. He emphasized the importance of being involved-“BCA-USA is a family and it is unBali not to belong to BCA-USA,” he added.
Meetings
Northern Texas Chapter had its first meeting post formal installation, on Saturday March 22nd 2017. It was a very successful meeting and well attended. We had over 23 sons and daughters of Bali in attendance. Three new members paid their national dues, two returning members paid their dues for 2017-2018 fiscal year. Moving forward, the chapter will be holding meetings on the fourth Saturday of the month. For now, the chapter will be meeting monthly until after the 2018 convention. One of our main goals is getting our children involved and teaching them our culture. They are our leaders of
tomorrow, including leadership in BCA-USA. During our last meeting, with Ba Culture’s guidance, they were able to introduce themselves in Mungaka and also learned how to greet the house the traditional way.

We were able to reach out to our sister city in the chapter (Kansas City) to coordinate Nkap Ntod and raise the conscience of our shared fraternity as children of Bani. Speaking of Nkap Ntod, when we introduced Nkap Ntod in BCA, I was so excited because our big Bali family had finally decided to come together to give dignity to our members who fall, just like we stand with them when they are amongst us. Although Nkap Ntod is a good benefit to have, I bet no one really wants to benefit from it. Attending the annual BCA-USA convention was not optional. After 25 years of attending conventions as a “BCA pikin,” last year, she was elected unopposed as National Public Relations Officer of BCA-USA. Below, she shares her incredible journey of embracing her heritage from an early age and taking on a leadership role in the 30 year old organization. Growing up as a “Real Pikin of BCA” (a phrase coined by the Youth Wing Executives of 20122015), attending monthly chapter meetings and conventions were obligatory in the Tangeh household. As a child, I could never understand why I had to

While spending most Memorial Day weekend trying to translate the intricate language that is Mungaka that my parents use to converse with their peers, the silver lining to my experiences were reconnecting with my friends that I saw yearly due to them living in all parts of the country. But as the years have passed, I’ve grown to appreciate this organization and how it has taught me to embrace such a rich culture. I can proudly say I’m a bi-product of the organization’s growth with the positions I’ve held within BCA. From being a Youth Committee Chair to serving as the Vice President of the Youth Wing, this organization has provided a voice for the younger generation by providing my peers and I with leadership roles. Accepting this role gave me the opportunity to play an important part in running the organization and in turn provided a way
to continue bridging the gap between generations. I’ve faced many challenges trying to adapt to this change but being in this position has definitely been worth the lengthy conference calls and the sleepless nights if it means conventions/leadership summits are enjoyable for everyone. Thank you to the Convention Planning Committee for your hard work, dedication, and patience with me as we have to plan the 30th Annual Convention.
Lastly to my peers- never lose sight of where you come from. Not many people are lucky enough to say they have rich culture and traditions to pass on to their young ones much less say that they’re from BALI. Let BCAUSA and all it has to offer serve as an avenue to help you preserve our wonderful culture. Find your voice in the organization –whether it be local or at the national level- and help promote Bali•

BCA USA 30TH CONVENTION PRAYER Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” WHO KNEW?
Twenty nine (29) years ago that BCA-USA would come this far? That by its 30th convention, BCA-USA would be in a class by itself; a non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization, transforming the lives of people in Bali and in the diaspora and much more? That BCA-USA would become a benchmark of Diaspora associations? That it would still be a family reunion at its core, yet a well ran non-profit organization; with its sons, daughters and grandchildren managing its affairs and staying focused on its mission? That there would be many projects and that its flagship project; the Multi-Purpose Center would be at its finish line? That BCA-USA would have a Sunday morning non-denominational service for all as well as a monthly Prayerline? Only God knew because He is omniscient and all Glory, Honor and Praise goes to him and him alone! This 30th convention is evidence that BCA-USA is mature, spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally and financially. On this 30th convention, our prayer for BCA-USA and its members is as follows: †† God will anoint BCA-USA on this 30th convention like He anointed David (2 Samuel 5:4). †† The Heavens will open and BCA-USA will see visions like Ezekiel did ( Ezekiel 1:1 ), †† BCA-USA will always blaze the trail for others, and will be anxious for nothing according to 60

Philippians 4:6-7. †† BCA-USA will start on its real mission like Jesus did at age 30. For the last twenty nine years, BCA-USA has been learning, growing, developing and has made several mistakes. However, she has reached a milestone, its 30th convention; all grown up and accomplished and highly celebrated. Yes, there is still more work to be done, the real work starts now, in 2017. BCA-USA is now well equipped and ready to take on giants and transform Bani and Bali, just like Joseph at age 30! †† We pray that those who ran away from home, for one reason or the other will come back home and know there is room for them in the BCA-USA global inn, and no Bali person will be left behind. †† That we shall forgive each other’s trespasses according to Matthew 6:12-15 and love one another with the Agape †† That we will lift each other up, help those in need, respect one another and not tear down one another. †† That we will not give the devil any entrance into this organization and no evil shall come near our dwelling. †† That the cancer of gossip, backbiting, strive, discord, rivalry, jealousy, tale bearing…. will be destroyed for ever and ever; as we are one family and our only enemy is the devil. †† All those in leadership role will be guided by the core believe that a leader is a servant and they will lead by serving and not serve by leading, as we work together as brothers and sisters. Amos 3:3.! †† That Divine Favor, Protection, Promotion, Blessings and journey mercies shall be our portion in the precious mighty name of Jesus Amen. Abba Father, we praise your Holy name and we thank you for answering our prayers, in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen. Humbly submitted by Rev. Pam Fomunung, Coordinating Minister, BCA-USA Prayerline.
