ear Travellers,
I am so excited to present our Cruise Collection for 2017 to you. This year, we are running two superb cruises. Of course, A&C offer anything but the typical cruise experience… we specialise in ‘once in a lifetime’ experiences. 2017 sees us set sail on Le Ponant once again, but along a different route. Join us as we travel from Nice to Bandol; Barcelona to Languedoc, and back again. With its year-round sunshine, it’s not hard to see the appeal of Nice – add a glass of wine to the mix and we find ourselves in heaven. Croatia is an underrated wine region - something we’re seeking to rectify during our second cruise for 2017. Discover all manner of indigenous delights as we gently sail across the azure Adriatic sea. Nothing complements the beautiful landscapes that surround us quite like a crisp glass of the good stuff. You’ll also find a sneak peek at our 2017 long-haul tours in the pages of this brochure. We have four fantastic escapes to choose from... Discover California, America’s Grape State; experience New Zealand with its mix of landscapes, cultures and wonderful wines; explore nature on a colossal scale in Chile, Argentina & Uruguay, or take a game drive in between tastings in South Africa. Let us take you on a voyage of discovery, on land and gliding over the sea… If you have any questions please do contact me, or my team at the A&C office. Happy travels and happy tasting, Caron Fanshawe General Manager Arblaster & Clarke

FROM NICE TO BARCELONA What do you get when you cross a super-yacht with delicious wine? A wonderful holiday of course...
Highlights ◊◊ Cruise along a relaxed meandering route - from Nice to Bandol; Barcelona to Languedoc ◊◊ Relax over a glass of vin rouge (or two...) alongside the locals in Bandol ◊◊ Discover outstanding producers in Languedoc-Roussillon ◊◊ Visit sparkling Cava vineyards, just outside of Barcelona ◊◊ Sample mouth-watering gastronomic delights in Catalonia

Join us on a voyage of discovery, that takes in dozens of appellations and a seemingly endless variety of wines. We’ll enjoy criminally under-rated Provençal rosés, big juicy Priorat reds, and superb Spanish sparkling Cava. We also sample Corsican wines that reflect the limestone soil-rich Muscat Vin Doux Naturels, powerful Rhône reds, and endlessly interesting and full-bodied whites. Nice is the perfect starting and end point to a tour – offering a brilliant mix of old-world opulence, fabulous food, a thriving art scene, and yearround sunshine. The ports we visit also offer the opportunity to explore Roman ruins, medieval alleyways, networks of canals, museums, galleries and more. Of course you could simply take a seat at a harbour side café and watch the world go by instead...

THE SHIP LE PONANT Experience cruising in a different way... Le Ponant is an exquisite modern yacht – and the perfect vessel to take you on a meandering cruise across the Mediterranean. The joys of small ship sailing are, of course, many fold. On board, you will enjoy a truly relaxed atmosphere. We can drop anchor for an impromptu swim in the ocean, and enjoy single sittings for leisurely outdoor lunches and dinners on-deck. Our small size also allows for swift and easy disembarkation - giving us all the more time to explore the lovely port towns and wonderful wine regions on our route. Ordinarily, Le Ponant can sleep 64, but we want to ensure that you enjoy a truly premium yacht experience. Arblaster & Clarke wine cruises are exclusive small parties, so we have reduced the maximum number of passengers on board to 50. By limiting our number of guests, we can make sure that you receive the friendly, informal house party style that makes our A&C small ship Wine Cruises so unique. Le Ponant will take you on a voyage of discovery - under full sail, gliding over the sea, you are sure to fall under the ship’s spell. Experience the fine life wherever you are: in your charming cabin, sat in one of the comfortable lounges, or gastronomic restaurant.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard!

FROM NICE TO BARCELONA The last word in luxury wine travel...
Itinerary
Day 1: Setting sail...
We fly from London to Nice. We arrive in time for lunch at a restaurant on Nice’s harbour. We stop at Nice’s wonderful flower market, before embarking Le Ponant. We set sail for Bandol, stopping en-route for a quick swim. We enjoy dinner on board with Provençal wines tonight. The wine has been chosen from some of our favourite regional producers, including Château Simone whose wines have wonderful depth. Their herbaceous rosé to their complex reds which age beautifully.
Day 4: Sparkling Spain
We start the day with a walking tour of Tarragona. We enjoy lunch on board with a Cava producer. Cava is Spain’s answer to Champagne and Prosecco. A glass of Cava is perfect alone as an apéritif, or accompanying poultry, rice and pasta dishes. We continue to Barcelona. The city is famous for the many artists and architects who have called Barcelona home – Pablo Picasso, Antonio Gaudi and Joan Miró just a few names amongst them.
There is much to visit here in Barcelona: admire the impressive Sagrada Família, or enjoy a leisurely wander along the Ramblas Promenade. Dinner will be served aboard Le Ponant tonight. We will enjoy local specialties, accompanied by wines from the Catalunya region. We’ll start with sparkling Cava, enjoy full bodied whites from Terra Alta, and finish off with upfront reds from Penedes.
Day 2: Coastal climates
We arrive at Bandol, and pay a morning visit to an estate in La Cadiere d’Azur. The Bandol appellation produces some outstanding reds. The warm, coastal climate is ideally suited for the late ripening Mourvèdre grape. We enjoy lunch on board, before setting sail for Tarragona. We enjoy dinner accompanied by Corsican wines tonight. Corsica’s vineyards are found near the island’s coast, as the mountainous interior landscape is just too rugged for viticulture. We enjoy the full range of the island’s wines, including the rich and satisfying Muscat Vins Doux Naturels.
Day 3: Sweet whites & robust reds
We sail to north east Spain today, and to a wine region that first came to fame in the late 1980s. The concentrated wines are minerally and robust. En route, you can choose to relax or join a tasting hosted by our Wine Guide. We join together for lunch accompanied by wines from Southwest France – including dry and sweet whites from Jurançon, rustic Malbecs from Cahors, and floral-scented rosés from Fronton. We arrive in Tarragona this afternoon, and go ashore to explore the port city’s fascinating mix of Roman history and medieval alleyways. We are joined for dinner by a winemaker from Priorat. 6
Wine improves with age. Travel improves with wine.
“ Wine is bottled poetry.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
Day 5: Lunch amongst the trees
We arrive at Port de Plaisance de Narbonne Plage and enjoy lunch at Château l’Hospitalet. The Narbonne restaurant sits among pine woods, vines, and moorland in the la Clape mountain range. There is a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea here – we stop for a swim at the nearby beach. We dine with another of our friends from the La Clape or Corbières region, who present their wines over dinner tonight.
Day 6: Stars of the Languedoc
We arrive in Sète and pay a morning visit to Mas de Daumas Gassac - one of the most outstanding producers in Languedoc-Roussillon. They make rich, powerful reds with great ageing potential. Hugh Johnson, is a great fan having described the estate as the Languedoc’s only “Grand Cru”. Enjoy a free afternoon in the pretty fishing port of Sète – not your typical tourist town. If you like seafood, this is the perfect place to indulge, Sète has the largest working fishing fleet on France’s Mediterranean coast.
Day 7: Our final night aboard
We make our way to Châteauneuf du Pape - the standard bearer for the Southern Rhône. The region produces both red and white wines of outstanding quality. We visit Domaine de Font de Michelle for lunch today. The vineyards here are tended using organic farming techniques. Their wine is aged in a myriad of different vessels including traditional cement vats, old foudres, demi-muids and French oak barrels. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. We sit down to a Captain’s dinner with wines from the Southern Rhône - including Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise during our last night on board.
Day 8: Returning Home
Take some free time to explore Nice this morning before our flight home. Nice is a city of universal appeal: old-world opulence, year-round sunshine and a thriving local arts scene. With so many delights waiting to be discovered here on the bright blue waters of the Cote d’Azur... why not add a few days before or after the tour to discover them all?
Wine Expert Please note that we are still putting the finishing touches to some of our 2017 tours. Rest assured that you will be joined by one of the UK’s leading Wine Guides on this Mediterranean Wine Cruise.

Croatia has enjoyed a long love affair with wine. Its industry grew within the Roman empire, following the introduction of vineyards to the Croatian coast by Greek traders in the 5th century BC. Despite their steady centuries-old presence in Europe, the first flurry of world acclaim only arrived in the mid-1990s. During our tour, we meet with Miljenko “Mike” Grgich, the Croatian native responsible for putting Croatia back on the world wine map. There is simply no better way to experience all that Croatia has to offer than on-board our luxury Esperanza cruise ship. Join us as we journey to the best island destinations around the stunning Croatian coast; and immerse yourself in the natural, cultural, and historical sights of this absolutely breathtaking country.

SAILING THE ADRIATIC SEA Discover Croatia’s varied viticulture....
Itinerary
Day 1: Introduction
We fly from London to Split, arriving in the afternoon. We embark the ship, and set sail for Hvar. We enjoy dinner on board tonight. There will also be an introductory tasting to the wines of Croatia.
Day 2: Noteworthy Grapes
We take a guided walk around the port town of Hvar. We return to our ship for lunch and are joined by the producers from Zlatan Otok Hvar winery, who have arranged the first of two tastings on-board today. We sail to Vis, where we are joined on board by the producers from Vinski Podrum Podvje – an unassuming winery from the island. We dine at Roki’s, a quirky Vis winery which provides its guests with a wonderfully unique experience.
Day 4: The Walled City
We arrive in Dubrovnik. This morning, after breakfast, there will be the opportunity to join our guided walking tour of Dubrovnik, hosted by a local guide. The tour will cover the most interesting historic monuments, including Onofrio’s Fountain and St Blaise’s Church. After a buffet lunch on board, we enjoy a free afternoon in Dubrovnik. We re-group tonight, for a tasting over dinner in Dubrovnik.
Day 5: Slow Food
We travel to the Peljesac Peninsula and visit Grgich Winery. We meet the owner, the legendary Napa Valley winemaker Miljenko “Mike” Grgich. Following the huge success of his winery in California, the Croatianborn Grgich returned to produce wines here
too. We will sample many of his impeccable wines. We continue along the peninsula to Bartulovic Winery in Prizdrina. The owner and winemaker, Mario Bartulovic, produces excellent wines using local grape varieties. As a fervent member of the Slow Food Association, Mario set up a konoba on the estate so that they could show how versatile the wines are when paired with food, as we will discover over a relaxed lunch of Croatian specialties. After lunch we continue to the town of Ston - a military fort of the Ragusan Republic whose defensive walls are among the most famous in the world. Spend some free time exploring the city – perhaps walking some of the wall. We enjoy a wonderful dinner together on-board the Esperanza tonight.
Day 3: Outstanding Beauty
We set sail for Mljet today. We partake in a late morning tasting of Slovenian wines on-board. This afternoon there is an opportunity to visit the Mljet National Park and the outstandingly beautiful Malo Jezero (Little Lake) and Veliko Jezero (Big Lake). In the middle of Veliko Jezero is an islet with a Benedictine monastery, incorporating St Mary’s Church. The monastery was originally built in the 12th century but has been rebuilt several times, adding Renaissance and baroque features to its Romanesque structure. In addition to building the monastery, the Benedictine monks deepened and widened the channel connecting the two lakes, taking advantage of the tidal surge to build a mill at the entrance to Veliko Jezero.

“I want to bathe in this. I would like to frolic in this wine. Where’s my toga?” Anthony Bourdain on Croatian wine
Day 6: World Class Pošip
We sail to Korčula – the town is known for its medieval towers and the walls fortifying its harbour. We wander through the town, taking in its many sights. In the central square, we find the glorious 14th century Cathedral of St. Mark. The island’s renowned beaches include the wide crescent-shaped Vela Przina, and Pupnatska Luka with its turquoise cove. We return to our ship to enjoy a buffet lunch, before continuing to Krajancic, a seriously good producer on the island of Korčula. They make four very different, but all world top-end styles of Pošip. We also visit Branimir Cebalo this afternoon. This winery hosts one of the best wine-makers of the Lumbardi region. We remain on land in Korčula for dinner tonight.
Day 7: The Dalmatian Coast
We enjoy a leisurely day, beginning with an onboard tasting of Slovenian wines. Unlike most Old World wine regions, Slovenia’s viticultural history predates Roman influences. Vine cultivation for wine production has been traced back to early Celtic and Illyrian tribes from the 5th and 4th centuries BC. We arrive in Split this afternoon. We sit down to a Captain’s dinner during our last night.
Day 8: Conclusion
We take a guided tour of Split’s Old Town, during our final morning on tour. We enjoy lunch, accompanied by Istrian wines, before our afternoon flight home. Croatia is an enchanting country: from sunset in Zadar, to the breath-taking waterfalls in Plitvice Lakes National Park, and the endlessly explorable Elaphite Islands... there is so much to see. Why not add a few days before or after the tour to discover them all?
Wine Expert Please note that we are still putting the finishing touches to some of our 2017 tours. Rest assured that you will be joined by one of the UK’s leading Wine Guides on this Croatia Wine Cruise.

South America has made wine since the 1500s… it just wasn’t as good back then. From the late 19th century onwards, Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay made huge advances in quality wine and firmly established themselves on the world wine scene. The organic movement is strong in South America, and the winemakers strive for regionality and originality in their wines. Try delicious Chilean Carmenère, Argentina’s star white Torrontés, Uruguay’s bold Tannat blends and more. Then there’s the scenery. Chile’s landscape has often been called nature on a colossal scale, and Argentina and Uruguay are almost as beautiful. Parched dunes, fertile valleys, imposing volcanoes, ancient forests, massive glaciers, and fjords are all here for your eyes to take in. You’ll have plenty of free time to fall in love with your surroundings… and fall in love you will.
