The best things are worth waiting for... If you decided to wait a little longer for your next ancient world adventure and are now looking for that all-important first trip back, we do hope that our range of expert-led tours departing in the first quarter of 2022 will reward your patience. So, where can we take you from January to March? The answer, really, is everywhere! We have to start by introducing the launch of a brand new archaeological tour that will take you to Sudan, which has its first departure in February. This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime destination to visit and our itinerary offers the ultimate experience of this extraordinary country’s history, culture and archaeology. Led by Dr Jacke Phillips, this new 14-day tour will see you discover the great sites of the Nile as the first Egyptologists once did, from the pyramids of Meroë to the extensive array of prehistoric petroglyphs at Wadi Sabu. Hoping for a little winter sun after the season was spent mostly at home last year? We can help! From the blue-tiled cities of Uzbekistan to Oman with its beehive-shaped tombs, and from the bucket list-worthy destination of Easter Island to the ancient rockcut façades of Petra, make next winter one to remember and treat yourself to a memorable experience in a fascinating destination. If you don’t want to venture too far, we also have a couple of UK-based, shorter itineraries led by our esteemed expert Guide Lecturers that explore Viking and Roman history along with our country’s great cathedrals in a variety of interesting places on your doorstep. What makes winter a great time for archaeological travel? If you ask us, it’s a fantastic season to get out there and explore – particularly in the UK and mainland Europe – because the sites that are ordinarily teeming with tourists tend to be much quieter, meaning less queuing, better views and more time to soak in their histories in the company of your expert Guide Lecturer. Finally, this brings us to our Guide Lecturers themselves. If you’re wondering why you should choose Andante for your next archaeological adventure, the answer we will give every time is the knowledge, passion and sense of immersion that our guides bring to your overall experience. Quite simply, nothing compares to visiting an ancient site in the company of an archaeologist who has personally excavated there or an academic whose life’s work can help put what you encounter into social, cultural and historical context. You will have opportunities to talk with your guides about what you see, time to ask questions you’ve always been curious about and their expertise will accompany you every step of the way. This really is the best way to ‘do’ an archaeological tour and they can’t wait to welcome you. Best wishes, Jackie Willis CEO
