Day 2 Visit the remains of Templo Mayor and admire Diego Rivera’s murals at the National Palace. Day 3 Tour exhibits housed within the National Museum of Anthropology and then enjoy an afternoon at leisure. Day 4 Fly to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and drive to San Cristóbal de Las Casas, where we see items made by Maya weavers. Day 5 Explore the town of Chamula and return to San Cristóbal for free time, before an evening visit to the Casa Na Bolom museum. Day 6 Drive to the site of Toniná, one of the longest-lasting Maya cities. Day 7 Enjoy a full day among the magnificent ruins at Palenque. Day 8 Travel in 4x4s to the Maya site of Bonampak. From here, journey by motor launch to the atmospheric jungle site of Yaxchilán. Day 9 Drive to the coastal city of Campeche, which we explore later.
Day 10 The remote site of Edzná awaits this morning and then it’s on to Sayil, a ruined late classical city. We end the day at Kabah, known for its ‘House of the Masks’. Day 11 Our morning is devoted to Uxmal, where we visit the Pyramid of the Magician and House of the Governor. Later, we continue to Mérida, where we have free time. Day 12 In Mérida, we visit the Mundo Maya Museum. After, we head to Izamal and visit the striking Franciscan Monastery, which is built atop a Maya pyramid. Day 13 Today we encounter the site of Chichén Itzá. After lunch, we continue to the walled city of Ek Balam, where we can climb the steps of the largest pyramid to admire the view. Day 14 Explore the ruins of Cobá and the walled coastal site of Tulum. Day 15 A leisurely morning awaits before we transfer to Cancún airport for our individual flights home or onwards travel.

Day 2 Arrive in Antananarivo, where we meet our local guide and transfer to our hotel, where we have dinner. Day 3 A domestic flight takes us to Diego Suarez/Antsiranana, where we check in to our hotel. Later, we visit Sakalava Bay with its lighthouse and French military installations. Dinner follows at our hotel later on. Day 4 We take a trip to Montagne d’Ambre National Park, where lemurs and unique tree ferns can be seen. Day 5 Explore the dry Montagne des Français, with its endemic drycountry flora. See baobab trees and the comet orchid here before flying back to Tana this afternoon. Day 6 Fly to Fort Dauphin and visit the Berenty Private Reserve, home to the strange triangulated palms. Day 7 An entire day at the Berenty Private Reserve is ours. This area is home to six species of lemur and 103 bird species.
Day 8 Today we’ll observe more local and rare flora, including baobab and didiereaceae trees. Day 9 Fly to Tana and visit the National Botanical Garden in Tsimbazaza Parc (either this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning, depending on flight schedules). Day 10 Travel through the forests of Angavo en route to Andasibe. Day 11 Discover the lush rainforest of Périnet, home to remarkable wildlife. After lunch, there is an optional excursion by canoe to the Vakona reserve, where we meet local lemurs. Day 12 Trek through the forest reserve of Analamazaotra before a special nocturnal visit to see the smallest chameleon, frog and lemur species of the rainforest. Day 13 Visit the Madagascar Exotic Park on the way back to Antananarivo. Day 14 Explore the nursery of Alfred Razafindratsira and have free time before our overnight flight to London. Day 15 We arrive into the UK today.

Day 1 Arrive in Cairo, where we unwind at our historic hotel. Day 2 Our day begins at Saqqara, where we visit the Step Pyramid of Djoser and the Imhotep Museum. After lunch, we have special access to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Day 3 We travel to Dahshur and see both the Bent and Red Pyramids. Later, we visit the iconic Giza Plateau, touring the Solar Boat Museum and enjoying special access to the Great Pyramid of Khufu’s inner chambers. Day 4 En route to Minya, we visit the collapsed three-step pyramid at Meidum. Then, we explore the Middle Kingdom tombs at Beni Hasan.

Day 10 An encounter with the complex of Karnak is ours this morning and we follow this with a tour of the Luxor Museum and its amazing collections of artifacts. Tonight we sit down to our farewell group dinner. Day 11 Today we travel home.
Day 5 A day at Tell el-Amarna awaits, abandoned after Pharaoh Akhetaton’s death. There is much to see here. Day 6 Today we discover Abydos, one of Egypt’s holiest locations. Day 8 After touring Luxor Museum, we have lunch aboard our boat and continue onwards by water to Edfu. Day 9 Visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the Temples of Sobek and Horus the Elder at Kom Ombo, as well as the site’s museum today. Day 10 Today we visit the Temple of Isis in Philae, Aswan (High) Dam and Elephantine Island, where we see the important temples and museum. Day 11 We fly from Aswan to Abu Simbel on the shores of Lake Nasser. After exploring this impressive temple site, we fly to Cairo for our final night. Day 12 The modern world is calling us home. We take our leave from Egypt and catch our return flights home.

Day 6 Uncover the secrets of the incomparable Maya metropolis of Tikal today, taking in its National Park and accompanying museum. Day 7 Climb the highest jungle temple in Tikal today and keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of the area’s endemic wildlife, such as toucans, monkeys and even wild turkeys. Day 8 The once-thriving city of Yaxhá is ours today. After lunch, we take a boat to the Maya site of Topoxte and then we cross the border into Belize.
Day 9 Venture deep into the forests to the Vaca Plateau today, to the Maya city of Caracol. Here, we see the Sky Palace and learn about the city’s turbulent history. Day 10 Travel to Xunantunich, which is home to well-known Maya stucco friezes. We also visit the site of Cahal Pech and then make our way to Belize City to visit the National Museum. Day 11 We start our day at Altun Ha with a temple tour, which includes sites known for their blood-letting rituals. We then board a motor launch boat to Lamanai, cruising through acres of vegetation to our lodge. Day 12 Wander the remote jungle remains of Lamanai today, where we see the Mask Temple and High Temple. Later, free time at our jungle lodge awaits – a chance to relax or explore. Day 13 Take a boat ride from Lamanai to Belize City and then transfer to the airport for our individual flights home or onward travel.

Day 1 Arrive in San José. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel. Day 2 After breakfast we visit Lankester Botanical Garden, which boasts a world-renowned variety of orchids. After lunch we journey south into the mountains, before making our way to the hotel. Day 3 We begin with a walking tour of the surrounding tropical cloud forest. Look out for hummingbirds, fly catchers and finches that dart about the mighty oaks. After lunch, we visit the surrounding area of San Gerado. Day 4 Continuing south, our destination is San Vito and the world class Wilson Botanical Garden. The garden covers a total of 12 hectares and is surrounded by 254 hectares of natural forest. Day 5 We spend today among the elaborate surroundings of the Wilson Botanical Garden. The plants here include palms, marantas, bananas and bromeliads.

Day 7 We pay a visit to Casa Orquideas, one of the oldest and most interesting botanical gardens in the region. Day 8 This morning it is time to head back to San José. Our journey is broken up with a ride aboard the Aerial Tram, near Jaco. We then visit the beautiful Butterfly Garden and the fascinating Medicinal Plants Garden, taking a walk through the terrariums. Day 9 Today we transfer to the airport for our individual flights home.
Day 6 Today we head south towards Golfito, a remote and secluded region. Our base here is within the jungle of Piedras Blancas National Park.

Day 1 Upon arrival in Tokyo, we transfer to our hotel and have free time to relax ahead of dinner. Day 2 Visit the Fukagawa Downtown Museum and the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Day 3 Hop aboard the bullet train to Aomori, where we visit the site of Sannai Maruyama. Later, we drive to the largest crater lake of Honshu Island – Lake Towada. Day 4 In Hachinohe, we tour the Korekawa Archaeological Museum. Then, we explore the mysterious Oyu stone circles and its on-site museum. Day 5 The bullet train takes us to Nagaoka for a visit to the Niigata Prefectural Museum of History. We also visit the Umadaka Sit Museum. Day 6 Journey into the beautiful Tsunan mountains to visit the Agricultural and Jomon Experience Museum, “Najomon”. Day 7 The Togariishi Jomon site and archaeological museum is our first stop today and then we visit the Suwa Grand Shrine complex.
Day 8 Take the bullet train to Nara, where we visit the park with its bowing deer, the Todai-ji Temple and Shin Yakushi-ji Temple, founded in 747. Day 9 Discover Osaka Castle this morning and then we head to the tumulus clusters of Mozu-Furuichi. Day 10 The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Tenryu-ji Temple and Kinkaku-ji Temple await today. An authentic tea ceremony follows later on. Day 11 Explore Kyoto today and visit Nijo Castle. Free time follows after. Day 12 Take the bullet train to the Himeji Castle complex. Later, we catch a ferry to Miyajima Island to visit its Itsukushima Shrine. Day 13 Learn about Japan’s porcelain production in Imari today. Day 2 Upon arrival, we take a coach to Kyoto and visit the Imperial Palace’s gardens. A welcome drink and dinner follow later at our hotel. Day 3 Today we visit the dry landscape garden at Ginkaku-ji, the Bamboo Forest Path in Sagano, Kyoto Botanical Garden, and the private garden of Hakusasonsou, created by painter Hashimoto Kansetsu. Day 4 A day-long excursion to the Prefecture of Shiga awaits, where we tour the temple of Ishiyamadera and the historic town of Omihachiman. We also visit the Nishikawake House. Day 5 Today is free to explore Kyoto at leisure as there is much to see here. Day 6 We enjoy guided tours to a range of dry landscape gardens and temples in Kyoto. We also have a special dinner tonight with a maiko – an apprentice geisha. This is bound to be a highlight. Day 7 After breakfast, we transfer
to Nara and visit the Kasuga Grand Shrine, the Toda-ji Temple and Nara Park, where we can meet its charming bowing deer. Tonight, we have an evening visit to the Kodai-ji Temple. Day 8 This morning we explore Heian Shrine and the Nanzen-ji Temple. In the afternoon, we take the bullet train to Tokyo and transfer to our hotel. Day 9 Our whole day is spent at the seaside town of Kamakura, home to a 13.5m-tall statue of Buddha. We also visit the Hase Kannon Temple and the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Day 10 Hakone and Mount Fuji are calling today and we visit Onshi Hakone Park, cruise on Lake Ashi and enjoy spectacular mountain views. Day 11 A full day of sightseeing in Tokyo is ours today. Visit Mukojima Hyakkaen Garden and the garden of Kyu Furukawa before some free time. Day 12 Cruise the Sumida River, visit Senso-ji Temple and explore Imperial Palace East Gardens on our final day. Day 13 Today we fly back to London.

Day 2 In the valley of Wadi Seet, we find the remains of Qasr-al-Abd. Later, we have the chance to float in the legendary Dead Sea. Day 3 Today we explore the ancient city of Gadara, then it’s on to Jerash with its 2nd century Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Artemis. Day 4 In Amman, we visit the Archaeological Museum and citadel. In the afternoon, we explore the early Byzantine Church of St. George in Madaba and the Archaeological Park.
Day 8 A further opportunity to explore the magnificence of Petra awaits. On both days there are optional climbs to the Nabatean Monastery and High Place. This site is simply incredible. Day 9 This morning we visit the Neolithic site of Beidha and the painted tomb at “Little Petra”. Later, we drive out to Wadi Rum and cruise the desert scenery – made famous by the filming of “Lawrence of Arabia” – aboard a fleet of 4x4s. A farewell dinner back in Amman awaits us later. Day 10 Today we catch our flight back to London from Amman.
Day 5 The dramatic basalt city of Umm al-Jimal awaits. We also visit the desert castles of Qasr Azraq, Amra and al-Kharanah. Day 6 Umm al-Rasas is our first stop today, where we see the church and spectacular mosaics and then it’s on to the crusader castle at Kerak. Day 7 Today is the first of two full days in Petra. Wander the colonnaded streets and admire the Treasury.

Day 6 Board a train for Varansi, where we have free time before witnessing a sunset aarti on the Ganges’ steps. Day 12 Today we take a city tour of Gwalior. We visit the Jai Vilas Palace and take the Gatiman Express to Agra. Day 13 Explore the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Itimad-ud Daulah today. Day 1 Arrive in Venice. Upon arrival, head to Altinum and then we transfer to our hotel. Day 2 Explore the tiny island of Torcello and the nearby Venetian island of Murano, where we tour the glass factory and museum. Day 3 Visit the island of San Giorgio and continue to the Basilica del Santi Giovanni e Paolo. We end at Santa Maria dei Miracoli.
Day 4 Tour the Doge’s Palace, then explore both the Correr and Archaeological Museum. A private tour of St. Mark’s Basilica follows. Day 5 After a day of fascinating visits, we enjoy a gala dinner and see fireworks from San Giorgio. Day 6 Visit San Pantalon Church and tour the Grand Canal today. A Viking parade in Lerwick
