The festival is an opportunity for those to reunite and gather with fellow classmates, friends and family members and reflect on the

Festival announces 2017 theme contest winners
T
he 2017 Moxie Festival made their theme announcement on Nov. 11, 2016, Veterans Day during a live video via Facebook. Theme winners were Dawn Hartill of Lewiston and Hilary Emery of Millinocket. Dawn is a mom of three teenage boys. She loves to drink Moxie, as well as their whole family. She attends the festival each year. Because of their love for Moxie, Dawn has competed in the Moxie recipe contest for many years. Dawn won first place in 2015 for her Moxie candied bacon cheeseball. Dawn entered the Moxie Theme Contest this year because she was excited of the idea of honoring the men and women of the military. Hilary is a veteran of the U.S. Army, a mom to 7 year old, a social worker by day and a small business owner in her “spare time”! Hilary entered the contest because her little brother Blair was a huge Moxie fan! He was a great baseball player and wore No. 17 on his jersey. So, when the contest for ’17 was announced, as well as paying tribute to the military, she thought she should enter in his honor. The deadline was on his birthday! Blair used to ask her to bring
From left to right: Diane Barnes, Town Manager; Dawn Hartill, co-theme winner; Tracey Steuber, Economic and Community Development Director. him Moxie whenever she went to visit him — a little taste of home! He enjoyed getting his friends to try it too! Blair was killed in action on Nov. 30, 2007. So, when the family sees Moxie, they think of him.
Hilary Emery, co-theme winner with family and friends.
2017 Moxie Festival logo design winner announced Kasey Hildebrandt was recognized for her winning art work at the Tuesday, June 6, town council meeting. The 2017 Mox ie Festival design w ill be seen on the backs of thousands of people during the festival weekend. In 2013, Kasey received her associate degree in graphic design from Central Maine Community College. She has a wonderful career working in the graphics world, at a local Lewiston company. Art has always been an important part of her life, from doodling in grade school to recreating cartoon images, to taking all the art classes she could in school because she loved getting lost in art projects and watching her skills develop and grow. Drawing with pencil is her favorite medium, acrylic paints a close second and now
she works digitally to create art. The excitement of knowing if she put in a design — and she won — her design would be on the backs of thousands of people that weekend. It made her focus on coming up with a design that truly represents the 2017 Moxie Festival theme and the joyous atmosphere it brings Presenting the winner with the first T-Shirt, from left to right is: Christine Amaya, committee member; Tracey Steuber, Economic and Community to the small town.

Roaming Railroad The Mox ie committee is ver y excited to welcome Engineer Dan DeCosmo and the Roaming Railroad to the 2017 Moxie Festival. The Roaming Railroad is a trackless train that holds up to 27 passengers. Not just a kid’s ride, it was custom built to accommodate adults, making it a family attraction. Based out of Suffield, Conn., the Roaming Railroad serves the Northeast with some of the best family enter-
tainment available. Engineer Dan DeCosmo will entertain riders with comedy, train songs and inspirational routines like the little train that could. The cost to ride the train is $3.00 per person. The train will be stationed at the MTM Recreation Center.
Remembering Frank Anicetti “Mr. Moxie”… Written by Julie-Ann Baumer Lisbon has a long history of festivals, celebrations and gatherings. The lifelong Lisbon Falls resident and third generation owner of the former Moxie Store, Frank Anicetti was a supporter and promoter of 60 years or more of good times. Whether it was a summer street dance, a chicken barbecue, Frontier Days or the Moxie Festival, the whimsical character lovingly referred to as “Mr. Moxie” could be found in the middle of everything.

When bucket hats surged in popularity in the 1990’s, Frank sold a stylish black model with the words “I’ve got…Moxie” on top of the hat. When a customer asked why the words were on the top of the hat and unseen when worn, Frank charmingly responded “when a you doff your hat, you want your Moxie to show.” On behalf of the Moxie Festival Committee, we respectfully doff our hats to Frank Anicetti, forever Mr. Moxie.
