GENERAL INFORMATION yy Please report to all rounds on time (or early!), but do not enter a room unless the judge is present. If a room is locked, or the judge does not show up within 15 minutes of the round’s scheduled start, please ask a tournament official for assistance. Please respect the school buildings and rooms. yy Speech contestants who are cross-entered within a pattern should report to the room where they’re scheduled to speak earlier first, ask to speak as early as possible in the round, and then immediately report to their other event. yy When you leave each round, please respect other rounds still in progress and walk quietly to your next round. yy Observers are permitted in all competition spaces and rounds. No one may deny the ability for someone to observe them. Anyone who chooses to observe must be respectful at all times during the competition. yy Do not record rounds on mobile/cell phones or other digital devices. This is for the privacy and safety of all concerned. No exceptions will be granted to this rule; final rounds will be videotaped by staff for instructional purposes. yy Please silence cell phones and other noise-emitting devices. yy Debate Final Rounds: To be eligible to receive championship honors, a school “closing out” (e.g., two entries in finals) must hold a debate that is videotaped and open to the public for educational purposes. No winner or loser will be declared; we will declare the entries co-champions. yy Awards Assembly: Please make this ceremony dignified by refraining from yelling and screaming. For safety, please keep aisles clear. You may not reserve seats. 1
MAIN EVENT TENTATIVE SCHEDULE The schedules are tentative and we may alter start times. It is the responsibility of all contestants to pay attention to the schematics at msnats.tabroom.com for official start times.

NSDA HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION POLICY The National Speech & Debate Association is committed to providing its participants, judges, coaches, and staff the opportunity to pursue excellence in their endeavors. This opportunity can exist only when each member of our community is assured an atmosphere of mutual respect. The NSDA is committed to maintaining an environment that is free from all forms of harassment and discrimination. Accordingly, all forms of harassment and discrimination are prohibited whether committed by participants, judges, coaches, or observers. The NSDA is committed to the enforcement of this policy. Individuals who are found to have violated this policy will be subject to the full range of sanctions, up to and including removal from the tournament premises and prosecution by authorities.
If you have a concern about how people are treating you, or you have witnessed behavior that is inconsistent with our policy, please report it to your building’s ombudsperson room, where we have individuals available to hear your concerns. This year, we are introducing an equity team led by Dr. Darrel Harvey to help address non-competitive issues. See page 5 for a list of bud room locations. 3
If you don’t CONNECT, how can you SUPPORT and INSPIRE? The NSDA has partnered with ed-tech company Participate to offer CONNECT a free virtual professional learning community (PLC) for speech and debate educators. This portal offers a variety of opportunities for coaches and educators to connect, support other coaches, and to get inspired!
SIG N UP TODAY AT
www.NSDAConnect.org JUDGE BOND INQUIRIES If all judges from a school complete all judging assignments, including semifinal and final round judging assignments, the judge bond will be returned after July 1. It will be returned MAILED in the form of a check or applied as credit to your school’s 2018-2019 NSDA account. The return method was selected on Tabroom.com during the online registration process, and this selection is final on June 22. Only come to Judge Bond Inquiries if you have questions about this process.
Room 122 - Fort Lauderdale Convention Center • Friday - 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. NO JUDGE BONDS WILL BE RETURNED IN CASH AND NO CHECKS WILL BE RETURNED AT THE TOURNAMENT. If a check is not requested during the registration process, a credit will be issued automatically, if due. All credits must be used by December 31 of the year in which they are issued. Failure to report for a judging assignment or pooling assignment will forfeit your judge bond of $200 for the first round missed, and a $100 per judge per round penalty will be assessed thereafter. A school will not be permitted to gain membership or compete the following year unless all outstanding fees have been paid.
