TOURNAMENT SUPPORT We constantly strive to make speech and debate a more inclusive and welcoming activity. In an effort to clarify and improve the rules adjudication process for the membership, the NSDA has further defined the roles of Ombudspeople, Equity Officers, Rules Adjudication Panelists, and National Tournament Directors. • An Ombudsperson is a person who, via the tournament office, attempts to provide important information to attendees and helps to resolve issues that may arise throughout the course of the tournament.

• Rules Adjudication Panelists are responsible for gathering all relevant data associated with certain formal protests assigned by the National Tournament Director, interviewing the protesting and protested parties, and rendering a final decision to uphold or decline the protest and determine the appropriate penalties, if applicable. Decisions are final and may not be appealed. • The National Tournament Director and Assistant National Tournament Director serve as first referee on all rules and procedure related items. They both rule and serve as advisers to the rules adjudication panelists and ombudspeople and are the head administrators of the National Tournament. All rule and procedural decisions are final and may not be appealed.

SCHOLARSHIP CLAIM REQUESTS More than $100,000 in scholarships is awarded at the National Tournament each year! Graduated high school students who have earned a scholarship at the National Tournament and have enrolled in post-secondary school should complete our online form to submit proof of enrollment and request disbursement of scholarship funds. Scholarship funds will be sent to the registrar. For details, visit www.speechanddebate.org/scholarship-claim-request-form.

Note: All scholarships awarded during the National Tournament will be disbursed to the institution by the NSDA. If you wish to send a thank you note to the sponsor, please email info@speechanddebate.org.

JUDGE BOND REMINDER If all judges from a school complete all judging assignments, including semifinal and final round judging assignments, the $200 judge bond will be returned by July 31, 2022—either in the form of a mailed check OR as a credit applied to the school account, per your selection made through the online registration process on Tabroom.com. You can log in to your Tabroom.com account to check your selection (mailed check or school credit). Failure to report for a judging assignment or pooling assignment will forfeit your judge bond of $200 for the first round missed, and a $100 per judge per round penalty will be assessed thereafter. A school will not be permitted to renew membership or compete the following year until all outstanding fees are paid. Schools that want to appeal loss of judge bond or fees are invited to complete the online appeal form at www.speechanddebate.org/fee-appeal-form. Review of appeals will begin on July 11, 2022. The deadline to appeal is September 30, 2022. For other judge bond questions, please contact info@speechanddebate.org.

PARKING Parking at the Kentucky Expo Center is free for attendees all week! Reference the National Tournament when you reach the parking attendant. All school registration packets will also contain parking passes. Parking is also free at the University of Louisville campus.

FREE MEALS Thanks to the generosity of the Jefferson County Public Schools’ nutrition services program, we are able to provide breakfast and lunch, free of charge, to students 18 and under at all public schools Monday through Thursday during the National Tournament! Food is also available for cash-only purchase at each school (meals are $5 for adults over 18). Meals at the Crowne Plaza, the University of Louisville, and the Kentucky Expo Center will only be available for purchase; cash is highly preferred at these venues. NATIONAL SPEECH FINALISTS’ SOUND AND LIGHT CHECK All main speech finalists (OO, USX, IX, INF, HI, DI, DUO, POI) must attend the National Speech Finalists’ Sound and Light Check at 10:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 16 in Freedom Hall of the Kentucky Expo Center. Students should wear what they plan to wear during the final round of competition.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities for 2021-2022.

One coach from each qualified school should plan to attend the National Awards Assembly at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening to accept the award on behalf of their school. The Brewer Foundation and New York University proudly announce the 22nd annual International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) – the only competition that gives high school students around the world the opportunity to engage in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. This international contest is open to all schools – public and private – for free. High school teams compete for awards and scholarships. Register to compete by October 14, 2022. Prepare a 2,800 word qualifying round essay on the 2022-23 topic. Essays are due in late October 2022.

The Top 64 teams will be announced in early November. Those teams advance into a single-elimination, written debate competition, with teams volleying essays back and forth via email. Judges review the essays and the field is narrowed from 64 teams to 32, 16 and then eight.
