here have been 10 individual winners in the 16 races contested so far in the 2014 Championship Series. The chances of an 11th different name being added to the list is not out of the realms of possibility in the Top End. Scott McLaughlin’s win in Race 16 in Perth, following the Race 15 triumph of Chaz Mostert, saw both hoist maiden championship wins in 2014. Many different scenarios have played out during a season which so far has not seen any team emerge from the ruck and take the fight by the scruff of the neck. Mark Winterbottom continues a consistent run that has been the achilles heel in seasons gone by at Ford Performance Racing. Winterbottom, like the Red Bull duo of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes have all netted three wins each for the season. Red Bull have found themselves under siege like never before while the Volvo Polestar Racing operation continues to show stunning

qualifying pace which McLaughlin transferred to a championship race win in Perth. Then there is the ever-lurking presence of Fabian Coulthard (winner of Race 7 at Winton) who is proving a power of consistency in his Brad Jones Racing Commodore. The Albury-based team continues to be a factor in an increasingly complex equation.

ittle separates Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes and Mark Winterbottom in the betting for Race 17 of the V8 Championship
Series. The opening 44-lap race sees Whincup hold slight favouritism at $4 from his Red Bull Racing Australia team-mate, Craig Lowndes ($4.50). The championship leader Mark Winterbottom is being kept safe at $5 following his highly consistent recent form. Not surprisingly the top three in betting shared wins at the Triple Crown meeting last year. A key fact to consider is that Winterbottom was the last driver to win the opening race at Hidden Valley from pole position in 2010.
www.speedcafe.com
Volvo Polestar Racing spearhead Scott McLaughlin is a firm $7 chance after his Race 16 victory in Perth - the first for the Swedish maker in the primary Australian touring car class for 28 years. Winterbottom’s team-mate Chaz Mostert, the Race 15 winner in Perth, leads the double-figure assessments at $10. Mostert and McLaughlin became the
ninth and 10th different winners from the 16 races contested to date in the 2014 Championship Series. Whincup, Lowndes and Winterbottom have each netted three wins with other single victories going to James Courtney ($15), Fabian Coulthard ($12), Lee Holdsworth ($51), Jason Bright ($17) and Shane van Gisbergen ($15).

Reynolds takes aim in Darwin srentrap munitalp duorp ruO ™
ytiruceS enO-nI-llA
here is something about David Reynolds’ flamboyant driving style and the high speed and somewhat technical Hidden Valley circuit which go hand in hand. Its a relationship even the Ford Performance Racing driver finds hard to fathom but without a podium finish so far this season, he is desperate for the circuit to yield a return to the rostrum. Last year he scored two pole positions at the venue and was unlucky not to score a maiden V8 Supercar win after being punted out of the lead by his team-mate Mark Winterbottom. Reynolds’ 2014 campaign started slowly but in recent races the Bottle-O Falcon driver has climbed the championship standings with five top 10 finishes from the last six encounters. The run has lifted him to ninth in the championship but he remains the only driver in the top 10 yet to win a race this term, a statistic which is playing on his mind. The 29-year-old heads north in a confident frame of mind after a positive test day at Winton, which he hopes can push him to challenge at the sharp end of the grid this weekend. “I love the Darwin track,” Reynolds told

Speedcafe.com. “I have got a different car from what we had last year hopefully it will be a lot better. “From now until the end of the year I really enjoy this part of the season. “I have no idea why I am strong there, it might be the surface, the grip level or something like that but it just seems to be one of my tracks. “I’m the only one of the top 10 who is yet to win a race so I really hope I can correct that this weekend. “We had a strong test day a couple of weeks back where we threw a lot of things at the car that worked well. “Hopefully we will be able to take the
upgrades to Darwin and they works in a similar way.” “Last year it was a bit of a different situation who knows whether I would have won that race or not. “I guess we will just have wait and see if we can be strong there again this year.” With V8 Supercars enjoying arguably its most competitive season to date, Reynolds believes qualifying is becoming far more important than the races. At Barbagallo just seven tenths of a second covered the entire field in qualifying for Race 16. Such competitiveness means even the slightest of errors carries a heavy penalty for a driver

over a weekend. Luckily for Reynolds, Ford has dominated qualifying in Darwin in recent years, claiming eight of the last nine pole positions at Hidden Valley from 2010 onwards. In fact the only Holden driver to claim pole position in that time is James Courtney (Sunday Race 1 last year) for the Holden Racing Team. “These days where you qualify give or take a few positions is where you will finish in the race,” added Reynolds. “It is ridiculously close. “If you make a small mistake now it can really ruin your weekend.”

Races 17/18/19 - Skycity Triple Crown Darwin 400 I Did You Know
1
Impressively, 10 different drivers have claimed victories in the first 16 races of this year’s V8 Supercars Championship.
Seven different teams have won races while four of the five manufacturers on the grid have collected victories. Nissan is the only one yet to claim victory or a podium finish. Red Bull Racing Australia has won more races than any other team this year - six though has collected just one win from the last 10 races.
2
Red Bull Racing Australia’s Craig Lowndes will celebrate a milestone at Hidden Valley - his 40th birthday. The three-time V8 Supercar champion will turn 40 on Saturday June 21.
?
15
?
DID YOU KNOW
He is the third oldest driver on the 2014 grid behind Russell Ingall (50) and Jason Bright (41). The average age of the grid at Hidden Valley is 31.2. Lowndes has won six races in Darwin - including the last race on the Sunday last year - though has not taken a pole in the ‘Top End’ since 2000. He sits second in the championship and 101 points behind leader Mark Winterbottom heading to Hidden Valley.
3
The SKYCITY Triple Crown award still remains unclaimed given no driver in the event’s history has been able to win all three races and clean sweep a Hidden Valley weekend.
Drivers have been able to claim two out of three race wins in the past (Russell Ingall in 1998 and 1999, Mark Skaife in 2002, Marcos Ambrose in 2003, Todd Kelly in 2005 and Craig Lowndes in 2007) but no one has achieved the treble. From 2009 to 2012 - when there were two races per Darwin event rather than three - the Triple Crown was decided on the basis of a driver qualifying fastest in the Top 10 Shootout and winning both races. No driver was able to achieve this in those years.
4
Championship leader Mark Winterbottom has one of the strongest records at Hidden Valley of the current V8 Supercars Championship field.
The Pepsi Max Ford driver has qualified in the top five for 11 of the last 12 races in Darwin and finished on the podium nine times in his last 12 race starts. His Ford Performance Racing squad should also feel confident given their pilots have had the top point scoring driver at the last three events (Winterbottom at Winton and Pukekohe and Chaz Mostert at Barbagallo).
5
Only three drivers, Russell Ingall, Craig Lowndes and Garth Tander, have competed in each and every V8 Supercars Championship event at Hidden Valley since the first back in 1998.
However, only Tander has started every one of the 44 races the circuit has hosted given Lowndes and Ingall have both failed to start two races each due to various mechanical and electrical problems. Tander has an incredibly consistent record in Darwin and has not failed to finish a Hidden Valley race since 2001 - a streak of 34 consecutive race finishes.
6
Scott McLaughlin and Jamie Whincup jointly lead the race for the ARMOR ALL Pole Position Award with four pole positions each so far this season.
The Volvo pilot - who celebrated his 21st birthday recently - and the Red Bull Holden driver have both also qualified on the front row seven times each. McLaughlin, however, has qualified in the top five (13) and top 10 (15) more times than any other driver this year. Seven different drivers have claimed ARMOR ALL Pole Positions so far this year from 16 races.
7
The SKYCITY Triple Crown will feature the first mixed tyre format of the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship.
Each car will have 12 hard and eight soft Dunlop tyres to use, though the soft tyres will only be permitted to be used on Sunday. Whether teams also choose to spend some time running on hard tyres on Sunday is their decision. Saturday’s two 10-minute qualifying sessions and pair of 100-kilometre sprint races will be run solely on hard tyres.

8
Jack Daniel’s Racing’s Todd Kelly will start his 193rd ATCC/V8 Supercars Championship event at Hidden Valley, moving him past Steven Johnson and Tony Longhurst for 11th on the all-time list.
His brother Rick will start his 173rd ATCC/V8SC event, moving past Jason Bargwanna to claim 15th on the all-time list. Both brothers have won in Darwin before with Todd claiming overall victory in 2004 and 2005 and Rick winning a race in 2004 and then again in 2011.

9
Ford drivers have dominated qualifying in Darwin in recent years, claiming eight of the last nine pole positions at Hidden Valley from 2010 onwards.
The only Holden driver to claim pole position in that time is James Courtney (Sunday Race 1 last year) for the Holden Racing Team. Amazingly, Red Bull Racing Australia/Triple Eight Race Engineering has never claimed a pole position in its 10 previous visits to the venue and Jamie Whincup also remains without a pole position in Darwin.
10
Only two drivers - Nick Percat and Robert Dahlgren - are making their first V8 Supercars Championship appearance at Hidden Valley.
While the Swedish Volvo driver is completely new to the Darwin circuit, Percat has a successful history there in the junior categories and is actually undefeated in three previous visits. He won all four Aussie Racing Car races in 2006 and clean swept all three races in both 2008 and 2009 in the Australian Formula Ford Championship.

Races 17/18/19 - Skycity Triple Crown Darwin 400 I V8 Ute Preview and Entry list
38
Title battle to heat up in Darwin he V8 Utes Racing Series heads north for round three of the season with the title race beginning to develop into a two horse race between Kris Walton and David Sieders. While Walton and Sieders have opened up a gap in the championship, two-time champion Ryal Harris is hoping to ignite his title defence this weekend. The reigning champion has been the man to beat at Hidden Valley for the last two seasons and is confident he can pull off a third consecutive round win at the circuit. “It would be great to win again at Darwin, I won three races there last year so feeling pretty confident,” said Harris. Meanwhile, championship leader Walton, who dominated the second round at Barbagallo Raceway, has never shone in Darwin with the Ford racer yet to record a podium at the venue. He will be hoping his fortune in the north changes with Harris and Sieders likely to contend for victories and podiums. Sieders has netted three race wins, two pole positions while finishing in the top three for the round over the last three years. V8 Ute Veteran Kim Jane is also no slouch in the driver’s seat at Darwin, claiming second for the round last year and taking out the round in 2011. South Aussie Michael Almond will steer his Holden VE for the first time since Sandown last year, and after two rounds racing in a Ford FG with Big Gun Racing, General Carrying’s Matt Nolan will move back to the Holden camp of Murphy Motorsport. Aaron Borg will debut in Ben Dunn’s Ford. The Sydney based rookie was diagnosed with a heart condition (sub-aortic stenosis) at a young age, and was motivated to get well by his parents with the promise of a Go Kart drive when he was better. He started walking again and drove in his first competition at age 10 and raced in various state titles from age 16. After six years of competitive Go Karting, the now 24-year-old was discovered by V8 Ute driver Andrew Fisher and will race in his first V8 Ute Racing under the Jesus Racing driver development program. “I’m definitely looking forward to racing, you can only do so much in testing and you don’t really know until you actually get out there with 32 other Utes,” said Dunn. “I didn’t expect to be racing against Andrew (Fisher),
