Step 1: Prepare the Hose
• Select the correct size hose for the fittings and measure to the desired length.
• This can be easily cut using Speedflow’s hose cutters (432-12)
• Make sure the cut is square, and any residue is trimmed and cleaned.
Step 2: Lubricate the Assembly
• Liberally lubricate the threads of the socket and the hose end nipple using:
o A heavy-weight engine oil, or Speedflow’s Assembly Lube (SF-LUBE)
• Proper lubricant reduces friction during assembly and prevents galling of the aluminium parts.
Step 3: Prepare the Socket and Hose
• Ensure the hose is round.
• Place the socket on the vice jaws and secure the vice to the socket.
• Insert the hose into the socket, screwing anti-clockwise (left) until it bottoms out.
• Turn the hose clockwise (right) and stop between 90 and 180 degrees to allow for hose expansion.
Step 4: Prepare with a Mandrel
• Remove the assembly from the vice and replace it with a tapered mandrel, such as Speedflow’s 490-TOOL
• Lubricate the mandrel, then insert into the hose.
o This step ensures the hose is round and allows the hose end nipple to insert easier.
Step
5: Assemble the Hose End
• Secure the socket in the vice again.
• Remove the mandrel, insert the hose end nipple, and begin threading it into the socket by turning clockwise (right).
• Use a correctly sized spanner to continue tightening the assembly.
o Tighten until there is approximately a 1mm gap between the socket and the hose end.
Step
6: Final Check
• Inspect the completed hose assembly.
• Clean and pressure test the assembly to the required pressure for its final application, to ensure it is safe and functional.
• Once verified, the assembly is ready for installation on your vehicle.
