Return to France Nola Desvergnes Shenk speos May 2022 photo reportage 32 week program
Introduction
I grew up in a French family in Canada and France and spent most of my adult life living in the United States. I recently moved back to France and naturally chose to continue to study photography, which always played an important role in my life, thanks to my artistic parents. For this project, I traveled back in time to my teenage years in Arles and my university years in Paris in the 1980s. On this journey through time, I recently returned to the places that meant so much to me then. I added pictures I took in the 1980s to enhance and compare my remembrance of things past, and create a visual time traveling journal. The blur of my lens conveying the soft focus of memories and the choice I made to print on textured art paper, further evokes the diffuse nature of the past. - Nola Desvergnes Shenk

About me
I grew up in Ottawa, Canada and Arles, France. After graduating from the Sorbonne University, I moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies. I worked for a U.S. Senator and then became a teacher for 20+ years, while raising two wonderful children, who are now both in university.
