Poppy Appeal 2011 Feline Care Facing Closure It’s never too early to volunteer for the Poppy Appeal. We all know that Remembrance Sunday is in November and that poppies are available in stores, schools and shops for the 2 weeks leading up to Remembrance Day, what we don’t see is the work that goes on behind the scenes during the year. For the past 5 years the Poppy Appeal in Attleborough has been very successfully organised by Mr Aubrey-Cound.
that are made available in the area and at the end of Remembrance tide accounting for all the funds raised.
All the money given to the Poppy Appeal is used to support our serving and ex-service men/women and their beneficiaries that request our help and with the recent conflicts particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan the need has never been greater.
The “happy band of collectors” that has helped in past years will be on stand by to assist again this year.
Unfortunately Mr Aubrey-Cound has to step down this year so the need for a new organiser has arisen. With the background organisation that needs to be undertaken during the year and any training that might be required we are looking for a replacement organiser for this area NOW. This volunteer position entails ordering, distributing and accounting for all the poppies and wreaths
Dispatch August 2011
There is of course support and help available from our Poppy support network and Mr Aubrey-Cound is happy to assist with supplying all his records from the past years.
This volunteer position would suit a newly retired couple, a couple of friends or someone who has time to spare with good organisational skills. You do not need to be ex-services or a member of the Royal British Legion but just someone who feels able to give their time to a worthwhile cause. If you feel you are able to help please contact Tracey Hall the Legions Community Fundraiser in Essex on 01245 240989 or email: thall@britishlegion.org.uk
A local cat rescue centre is facing closure if funds cannot be found to keep it open. Feline Care on Roudham Road, East Harling, has been under it’s current management for the last five years but charity Trustees, based in Sussex say they can no longer cope with the responsibility of the Norfolk branch. Staff and volunteers at the Norfolk sanctuary, home to around 140 cats at any time, have been given the chance to register Feline Care as a charity and take on the 3½ acre site but need to raise £70,000 by the end of September.
This news has hit us hard as we are already working flat out but we know there must be enough people out there who can help save us”. An appeal is being made for donations towards the site purchase and cheques can be made payable to Feline Care, Roudham Road, East Harling NR16 2QN. You can also donate online via the centre’s website www.felinecare.org.uk All donations gratefully received.
Centre manager, Molly Farrar, said “We are a small group of caring individuals who work our hardest to help as many cats as we can, with limited funds but plenty of enthusiasm.

Help Our Soldiers
DISS W.I.
Recently Trish Edwards from Diss & her dedicated team made up & sent 58 boxes to the Soldiers on the frontline in Afghanistan.
July Meeting.
They were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people in Diss & District in helping them to achieve this goal. Their next project is for Christmas goodies, decorations, balloons, tinsel, chains & Christmas cards to send back home to their loved ones, some also to send to their children please. Trish and her team will be packing the boxes on Saturday 22nd of October so anything you would like to send, please take to the Diss Tourist Information Office where the ladies kindly help us by taking donations in. The usual gifts apply, sachets of drinks, cup-a-soups, biscuits, cereal bars, all boiled sweets, crisps, cheese biscuits, tubes mustard,

marmite & twiglets, socks & gloves, lip salve, wet wipes, pens, little quiz books, games, small thin magazines (used) & to all the ladies who knit they welcome, hats, scarves, gloves & socks.
We started the meeting with a presentation by the Rotary Club. We were shown an Aquabox which initially is filled with items needed in daily life and stored until a humanitarian disaster has occurred anywhere in the world when these boxes are sent and used by people left homeless.
Please do not send chocolate or shampoo, they have no water, only drinking allowance hence the wet wipes. It would be great to keep the bits Christmassy. Closing date is the 21st October, once again Trish and her team would like to send their grateful thanks to you all.
When emptied the box is filled with any dirty water available then filtered and with the use of chemicals converted into clean water for drinking. Anyone or any organisation can purchase a box and support this worthwhile project.
Also come along and see us at our Tombola Stall and help us raise funds at the Mere Car Boot Sales on Sunday 4th September and Sunday 11th September 2011.
Our second speaker was Ingrid Perrin who has studied Reflexology and Aromatherapy and now enjoys providing these treatments from her own rooms in Diss. Ingrid invited us into her world of relaxation and a variety of wonderful scents as she passed around
the oils she had collected and explained how they are used and all the benefits. We would have liked to extend this pleasure for longer but unfortunately time ran out. After coffee break we listened to a report of the Annual AGM held in Liverpool on 8th June attended by several of our members. They all agreed it had been a wonderful experience and a very enjoyable few days. The Annual Garden Party on the afternoon of 2nd August will take the place of our next monthly meeting. Meetings are held at Diss Methodist Church Hall on the first Tuesday of each month starting at 7.30 p.m. New members and visitors are very welcome to join us.

DIY Probate Runs Risk
Comercrawley
It is entirely possible to apply for probate and deal with an estate, without seeing a lawyer, but it’s not without risks warns legal group, Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE).
The Personal Injury Lawyers.
Many professionally drafted wills contain trusts to save tax, to avoid those who inherit paying care fees and to reduce the likelihood of potential disputes.
Question: I have been told that if I pursue a claim for compensation I must agree for my entire medical records to be disclosed. This is putting me off making a claim as I don’t want, say, an insurance company to know my personal medical history. Is this true?
SFE members have noticed an increase in ‘DIYers’ returning to them to seek advice when they have made a mistake or find the paperwork too tricky. Mrs A’s will had included a tax saving trust, but when her husband administered the estate, he paid the whole estate to himself. The solicitor was thankfully able to sort out the matter and avoid future complications occurring when Mr A eventually dies. In Mr G’s case, he sold some shares that had made a gain during the administration of his late sister’s estate and had to pay tax. If he had transferred the shares to himself first, before selling them, he
Dispatch August 2011
could have avoided the tax. People aren’t always aware of the complexities and assume probate work is straightforward. It is true that it can be, but it is just as true that sometimes it isn’t. In all but the most straightforward cases, it is important to seek timely specialist legal advice that can actually save you money and worry. Many SFE members’ practices will offer to work in partnership with the deceased’s family to help and support them with the legal and technical work. As elder law specialists, members can even add value to their work, for example by identifying cases where money is owed to the estate for care funding, which should have been met by the NHS and assist in making a claim. For further information or assistance with any of the issues raised above please contact our probate experts Alisdair Liddle or Sophie Thurston on 01603 610481.
Your questions answered ……
Answer: It is true that someone pursuing a claim for compensation needs to be agreeable to their medical records being disclosed. This includes general practitioner records and records relating to any relevant treatment such as hospital or physiotherapy. It is also true that all of a claimant’s GP medical records need to be disclosed and not just those that relate to the treatment that s/he has received in connection with the injuries to which the claim relates. The reason why all of the medical records need to be obtained is because the medical expert who prepares the report on the claimant’s injuries needs to be in a position to report fully on the injuries suffered. As part of this process, the medical expert needs to consider whether there is anything in the claimant’s
medical history which may be relevant. This includes whether the claimant has had any similar problems in the past (for example, in the case of a back injury, whether the claimant has had any problems previously with his/her back). The fact that all of your medical records would need to be obtained should not however put you off pursuing a claim for compensation. The medical expert will only include in the report information which is relevant to the claim. Consequently you do not need to be concerned that personal information in your medical records which is irrelevant to your claim will be included in the report. Finally, it is important also to mention that those who have had sight of your medical records are required to treat them entirely on a private and confidential basis. If you have a question for our legal advice team you can submit it by email: enquiries@comercrawley. co.uk or in writing to: Chancery House, Victoria Road, Diss Norfolk, IP22 4HZ.

Clinical Negligence And Legal Aid As you may be aware, Kenneth Clarke, the Justice Secretary, announced on the 16th June 2011 the Government’s response following consultation on the proposed Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill. likely, despite continuing and vigorous opposition, that the Bill will be passed without further amendment. We feel strongly that the Government’s intentions are an affront to British Justice and will deny some of the most vulnerable people, such as the bereaved or those suffering brain injuries, access to justice at all.
Above: Chris Moffat from Jackaman Smith and Mulley. This Bill provides for the abolition of Legal Aid in all clinical negligence cases, and despite over 5,000 responses having been submitted by both lawyers and patient support groups objecting to those proposals, the Government has chosen to ignore the objections and has announced the intention to remove clinical negligence cases, as well as many other areas of law, from the scope of Legal Aid. Whilst there clearly will continue to be active lobbying against the proposed Bill to try to force a u-turn, it is unlikely that this will have any effect at this stage. It is therefore most important, if you have sustained injury as a result of negligent medical or dental treatment that you seek legal advice as soon as possible, since if you were to be eligible for Legal Aid, there may still be a limited amount of time in which applications can be made and considered. Stacey & Partners If you are repaying a student loan consider switching to direct debit to avoid overpayments, says Mark Wallace of Stacey & Partners. If you have a student loan, there can be problems when it comes to the end of the loan with the loan being overpaid, and then delays in getting the amounts refunded from the Student Loan body. This is often the case if the payments are made via the PAYE system, deducted from salary. To avoid this happening, our advice is that if 23 months or less is left to repay on the student loan, that you opt to pay the remaining balance of the
loan using direct debits to avoid overpaying the loan. To do this, they need to contact the Student Loan Company (SLC) and it will issue a stop notice to stop payments being made via PAYE. Mark Wallace is a partner in Stacey and Partners, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, and can be contacted on 01842 836100. Above: Sarah Bush and Graham Hart of Purpledoor. 1. Firstly, congratulations on the opening of your new shop ‘Purpledoor’! Tell us a little bit about the shop? Thank you we’re delighted to finally be up and running. We’ve carefully sourced our stock to be a little bit different - and we’ve tried to keep our new items British made by independent crafts - people and designers. Items include jewellery made from vintage biscuit tins and polished ‘sea glass’, chairs covered in old patchwork fabric, original artwork, vintage press greetings cards, and
10 Dispatch August 2011
2. What made you choose Diss for your new venture? We live in the middle of town and have always loved the special atmosphere of the ‘yards’. Having walked past the empty shop for a few weeks we decided to casually ask about the lease! It went from there really. 3. Why ‘Purpledoor’ - it’s an unusual name? I ran a small shop in New Buckenham which I named Purpledoor because it was the colour of our front door at the time. 4. What part of your stock have people really responded well to? We’ve had a great deal of interest in our vintage fabrics especially our patchwork chairs, and our lighting which is a little bit ‘different’.
”
5. If you were given a magic wand what would you wish for? Well we love the shop and we’re getting well received – the only thing I am really wishing for is that we are supported and are able to keep open! 6. What plans do you have for Purpledoor in the future? We are working on our website at the moment and will be launching a shopping facility as soon as we can. At the moment we are busy ordering our Christmas stock (yes - even though it’s mid-summer) - and I’m even putting together some ideas for Valentines Day. 7. What part of your job do you enjoy most? All of it really - sourcing the stock is lovely - like shopping on a grand scale and I enjoy the trade shows and seeing all the innovative designs and creative ideas that people constantly come up with, but most importantly
I enjoy my customers - helping them find something special for their home or that perfect gift or just chatting over a cup of coffee - it’s a lovely way to spend a working day!

New Working Groups formed
The intention is that the Group will then submit in due course a viable, costed and evidential based plan showing how Attleborough should develop over the next 15 years, taking full account of infrastructure and development needs.
The Town Council have recently established two informal working groups to consider specific projects in the town. These are, firstly, the Jubilee Partnership group which will co-ordinate various civic events and celebrations centred on the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee in June 2012, as well as next year’s Attleborough Festival. The other newly formed group, the Attleborough Development Working Group, aims to consult with all relevant groups within the town and welcomes

Most of the journeys are made to hospital or other medical appointments, thus often assisting the more vulnerable members of the local community.

Volunteer drivers are reimbursed mileage incurred on such journeys.

In The Valley A thought for the month from Malcolm Ryan, Pastor of Attleborough Baptist Church. Fear is sometimes a good thing. It can protect us from danger and costly mistakes. For instance, a fear of contracting lung cancer helps us see that smoking is dangerous to our health. However there is also the matter of unhealthy fear, often concerning things we can do nothing about or that will never actually happen. This kind of fear destroys our peace, restricts our activities, causes sleeplessness, and can even spoil relationships. So how do we deal with unhealthy fear? To begin with, we must identify and acknowledge the problem. In doing this, we need to keep the lines of communication open between us and God, asking him to help us conquer our fear and free our minds from anxious thoughts. As the psalmist wrote, “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4). It is comforting to know that the God on the mountain-top is the God in the valley. So we can praise him whatever our circumstances. In Isaiah 41:10 he
12 Dispatch August 2011
says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” As someone has remarked, “Sometimes the Lord calms the storm. Sometimes he lets the storm rage and calms his child.” God is sovereign. This means that whatever comes our way, our lives are in his hands. So don’t be discouraged when you have to turn your fears over to God again and again. That’s how trust is learned. God not only loves you and cares for you, but he is always there for you. He is greater than the fear you are feeling, and you can rely on him more than your emotions. Of course trust like that may take a while to develop; but as you see the Lord’s faithfulness each step of the way, your faith in him will deepen. So when fear strikes, take God at his word and say to him, “Lord I know you are in control of my life; not just part of it but all of it.” As you trust him and praise him, may your fears melt away and be replaced by the peace that only he can give.

Attleborough W.I. At our meeting on June 13th we were treated to a fascinating talk by Christine Adams about a remarkable woman, her aunt-in-law May Savidge. She was born in 1911 & when her father died she had to go out to work at the age of 10. She worked in a munitions factory & wallpaper design company before studying at Night School & becoming a draughts – woman at a De Havillands during the war in Ware. May had been due to marry but her fiancée died in 1938. After living on a boat she bought a medieval house in Monkey Row which had been called Monke Row. The house was composed of a hall with living space attached & a minstrels’ gallery. Apart from employing someone to repair the roof, May set about restoring the hall to its’ original state. In 1953 the council had bought the attached bakery & wanted to demolish the house to build a roundabout. She contacted the historical society & fought the council for 15 years. In the end May decided to move the house to Wells in Norfolk & began demolishing the house with the help of contractors, numbering the beams, panes of glass etc. She remained in the house, often exposed to the elements. Eventually her home was
transported lorry by lorry to Wells. She had a concrete base laid & started the task of erecting the timbers. She did employ local craftsmen for specialised jobs but did most of the work herself. She lived in a cold caravan & was often seen climbing the scaffolding throughout the day. When she was 70 she moved into her house & continued putting each brick etc in place. Unfortunately she died when she was 81 & the house was still unfinished. Christine moved into the house & continued her aunt’s work, with the help of all the things that May had hoarded over the years, this included tickets, invoices, cards, stamps, presents, newspapers, boxes of washing powder and May had left over 400 diaries. Macmillan Cancer Support Would like to express their thanks to all the people of Attleborough and the surrounding district for their generous support at the Garden Fete held at The Grange, Hargham Road, Attleborough. The event raised a grand total of £1,430.70 for the charity. Finally we would like to thank all the helpers at this event and those who
donated prizes etc. it is due to their continued and valued support throughout the year that we are able to provide funding for the work needed to help those living with cancer in this area.
Attleborough Bible Society Thought for the Month August 2011. “Trust in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy” 1 Timothy 6:17. God our Maker has generously given us all legitimate things to enjoy - the wonderful world of nature, our leisure pursuits, our work, our friends and family and much more besides! Sadly, instead of giving God thanks for these good things, we all too often take them as our
right, expecting them, not our Maker, to fill the centre of our lives. We turn them into a false god which fails to satisfy our hearts! Why? We have forgotten that there is a “God shaped blank” at the centre of our lives. The answer is to ask Jesus to fill our hearts with the joy of his risen life.

Sexual And Domestic Violence A charity sets up new services in Great Yarmouth, Norwich and Thetford. The Sexual Violence Alliance (SeVA), a local charity supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence, has secured a second year of funding from the Equality Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to support Diversity awareness work with communities and organisations representing minority ethnic groups across the county. “In the first year services have been improved for individuals, particularly those who suffer inequality and disadvantage, focusing especially on ethnic minority ethnic groups and people with mental health issues; two priority groups in the county who can sometimes miss out” said Alessia Pinna, SeVA’s Community Services Development Manager (alessia@ seva-uk.org). “The second year will see a consolidation of this work by increasing the range of activity delivered alongside our partner organisations and the development of training initiatives to increase the number of counsellors and support workers to support clients from BME groups.” The need for this work was identified by EHRC research in 2007 that highlighted a lack of specialised third sector services,

particularly in Great Yarmouth and Thetford, for people who have experienced sexual and domestic violence and who then suffer from mental health problems and the consequential effects of loss of confidence, increased isolation and significant depression. A particularly exciting initiative in this second year of the Project will be the provision of time-limited educational preventive programmes for people from minority ethnic groups. Entitled ‘The Power of SELF – My Journey’. These workshops will focus on general issues of self-worth, assertiveness, and rights, and the difficulties many people face in feeling entitled to them. Therefore, it may be of interest not only for survivors of domestic abuse but also for a wider range of participants. In order to deliver these activities the charity will need to work in partnership with other organisations who already work with the target groups. ‘This will be a really exciting opportunity for collaboration in order to enable people from other cultures
living in Norfolk to come together to explore their needs and rights,’ said Ms. Pinna. SeVA is also looking for new volunteers (Counsellors, Support Workers, and Facilitators for support groups).
Free Training will be run in Autumn. Application forms are available. Contact details for volunteer positions: admin@seva-uk.org.

Fireworks Fire Protection Has recently moved its UK headquarters to Attleborough in Norfolk after a £500,000 investment in a brown field site. The firm’s new office on Station Road was opened officially by Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman last week in a ceremony attended by a large number of current customers and suppliers along with the Mayor, Karen Pettitt and a host of local dignitaries and Breckland District Councillors. Fireworks Director Derek Killaspy said the firm had grown steadily through the recession, reaching a turnover of £4.5m - growth of 30pc over two years. The firm boasts a diverse portfolio of clients, from P&O Ferries, British Airways and the Supreme Court in London. However, Mr Killaspy said one of the biggest factors in the company’s growth was winning a Ministry of Justice contract which has seen the firm’s Hydramist technology installed in 120 prisons
nationwide. The technology suppresses a fire quickly by filling the air with fine spray at high pressure. Mr Killaspy said the system used less water and extinguished fire more quickly than conventional systems - reducing damage and the danger to life and health from smoke or toxic fumes. The technology has been developed in conjunction with Richard and Will Bridgman of Warren Services in Thetford through their joint enterprise with Mr Killaspy, Watermist. The company was included in the EDP’s Future50 list of entrepreneurial businesses last year.

I’m always tempted to say we could double the business, but maybe that’s a little too brave.”
In truth, over a five year plan, it’s possible - I give no guarantee - that we’ll see a further 50pc to maybe even 70pc growth in the business.
Mr Killaspy said: “Quite simply we’d outgrown our premises in Tibbenham. We built premises there in 2003, but by 2005 we realised that maybe we should have built something bigger, so we had been half-heartedly looking for new premises since 2008”. “We wanted somewhere near to the A11 and with a railway station - so,

As well as earning the challenge badges the Brownies also earnt their ‘Cook’ and ‘Pack Holiday’ badge. They achieved the Cook badge by helping to prepare meals for the other Brownies and leaders on camp, and knowing how to be safe in the kitchen. They achieved their Pack Holiday badge for staying the full duration of the Pack Holiday (3 days and 2 nights).
Also while we were away some of the girls took their ‘Promise’ where they are enrolled to Brownies, it was extra special as it was on Pack Holiday and the Girls enjoyed this exciting change! This term we are working towards completing our ‘Muddy Boots’ challenge and finishing off our ‘Anglia 40th Birthday’ Badge. We even had a teddy bears picnic to co-inside with the Great Ellingham Teddy Bear Festival!

No time for boring things like accounts or tax, they can wait as there is ages yet till the deadline. Or is there??? If you are a company you have nine months and 1 day to get your accounts to the Registrar of Companies and if you are late without applying for an extension, the fine can be quite hefty. Not a good way to start the autumn after a lovely holiday. If you receive tax credits or complete an annual review, then the deadline was 31 July so if you haven’t made your annual declaration, don’t put it off any longer. If you weren’t sure of your income and made an estimate then
it is a good idea to get your accounts in and completed so that the actual figures can be passed on to HMRC. The theme set by the Royal Horticultural Society was ‘Hot & Spicy’ and we had to put our thinking caps on to come up with a design that would meet this criteria, and also showcase our hard-landscaping specialist skill-set. It’s not easy to find ‘Hot & Spicy’ hardlandscaping materials! We came up with a design using hot orange clay paviors, burnt black limestone setts, volcanic lava gravel and ancient black bog oak. We also incorporated a fire-pit that produced ‘smoke’ using a water fed mister unit.

J&S Homeworks Need your Fascias replaced? Time to replace your windows? Think it will be too expensive? Think again! Call Jason now for a free no obligation quote and be pleasantly surprised by how little it can cost to transform the exterior of your home. Maintaining the exterior of a house can improve its functionality and efficiency, as well as increase ‘curb appeal’. The appearance of your home will be vastly enhanced by replacing your guttering, fascias and soffits. When should you replace your Fascias and Guttering?
can be replaced in UPVC which now comes in several different colours and effects.Summer is the ideal time to start making improvements. The risk of rain is very low and the days are longer than at any point of the year. Working with uPVC is easiest as it is not as brittle as it would be in winter. Also Birds are well and truly settled, some nests can easily fill a plastic shopping bag - so that weight on top of Felt or Soffit can be very damaging and decay and carcasses are left behind. When should you replace your windows? There are a few clear signs that can help you reach a decision. Ask yourself the following questions:
If your Fascia Boards are made of timber and are not properly maintained they will rot and deteriorate. If they are not in good condition they will not be able to carry the guttering, which can be heavy after heavy rain fall. Can you ignore a bit of rot at the ends? No the rot will almost certainly progress further. Your Fascia, Soffit and Guttering
Do your windows have condensation or a frost buildup? If you touch the interior pane of glass is it cold in the winter or warm in the summer? When next to your window does it feel colder than the rest of the house? From inside, take a lighted candle and hold it in line with the window frame,
does the flame flicker anywhere around the frame? Look at your windows outside; is the trim rotting, cracking or missing? Is the glass broken or cracked anywhere? Do your windows ever get stuck or won’t stay closed or open? Are you unhappy with the way your windows look? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, it is time to replace your windows. Replacement windows help reduce your heating and cooling bills and provide better UV protection - The money saved means they will have soon paid for themselves.

Harleston Choral Society Celebrates 10 Years With Anniversary Concert The excellent Harleston Choral Society, conducted by Chris Bracewell, celebrated their 10th anniversary with a concert at St John’s Church, Harleston on 18th June. The moment the orchestra, led by Miles Golding, began the introduction to Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’ the audience knew they were in for a good evening. This is a truly majestic piece of music, which the choir obviously enjoyed performing. Then came a real treat, Trumpeters John Coulton and Bevan Mac with orchestra and continuo performed the delightful double trumpet concerto by Vivaldi – a highlight of the evening. The second half performance was Haydn’s ‘Nelson Mass’. Despite being described by Haydn himself as a ‘mass for times of distress’, this work makes a very joyful sound.
A feature of the piece is the amount of time that soloists and choir sing together, which adds greatly to the overall quality of sound. One must pay tribute to the excellent Liz Brice (soprano) who had a major role to play. She was ably supported by Catherine Denley (alto), William Falconer (tenor) and Stefan Berkieta (bass-baritone). However, what the audience will really remember is the overall quality of performance and the sheer enjoyment of performers and listeners alike. Well done Harleston Choral. Your late founder, Ann Gee, would have been proud of you. May the next 10 years be as joyful!
Please contact Lucy with details of your vacancy.

1. First, keep the golden skin care rule in mind: Hydration. On your way back home drink plenty of water. Also, keep a water spray within reach in case of strong dryness.
3. Apply a hydration cream after each shower. There are some creams on the market specifically designed to make your tan last longer, but a regular one should do it just fine.
When you’re back home, keep applying an after-sun lotion as it is essential for hydrating your skin and maintaining a radiant complexion.
4. Finally you can use some artifice. The main one: clothes. Wear bright colors that will contrast with your beautiful tanned skin.
2. Try to avoid scrubbing your skin hard as it will remove cells responsible for your tanning. It is also suggested not to take prolonged warm baths. Take a fresh shower instead.
That’s it! And then? Well, your skin renews itself approximately every 28 days, so your tan will eventually go away despite all your efforts... until your next trip to the sun.

An interview with...
Darren of Salon FX Attleborough available are really amazing. The Indigo range of products I use are new and are exciting to work with for all styles. I have been influenced by quite a few people over the years, Lee Stafford, Trevor Sorbie and Kevin and John from Genesis Hair By Design, where I trained.
Above: Darren of Salon FX Attleborough. 1. Where were you born and how old are you? I was born in Cambridge and I’m 43 years old. 2. Did you know what you wanted to do when you left school? Not really. I was sixteen in 1984 and saw a job for a trainee hairdresser with a big salon in North Norfolk, Genesis Hair By Design. The owners were Vidal Sassoon trained Kevin Player and John Blaire. During the three years I worked with them, they gave me a thorough grounding in hair cutting/colouring. 3. After your training, where did you go next? As a junior stylist I moved on to Cambridge to work at the John Cornell Salon. After progressing to senior stylist I moved to Norwich working at Transformer in the Arcade, and then my first taste of management was for Pride Haircutters. I then went on to open my first business Darren Paul Haircutters in Upper St Giles Street, Norwich. Following that I was a freelance hairstylist appearing on stages across the UK, prior to opening Salon FX in Attleborough. 4. How has hairdressing changed over the last few years and who are you influenced by? When I started hair was all about perming, where as these days cutting and colour are very much at the forefront of the industry. Good communication between hairdresser and client will give the right result every time. These days the techniques, products and colours
5. Do you feel you can cater for all ages and styles? Yes, ladies and gents of all ages. My long opening hours reflect the fact that I can fit in with most peoples requirements. 6. You have been established over 6 years now, what changes have you made? During this time I have tried to adapt to the needs of my clients offering them the services they need. 7. Has the economic climate affected you recently? Obviously people do not have the same amount of spare money to spend at the moment but people still like to look and feel good. Having you hair done is always going to do that. I am pleased to say I am still nice and steady.
”
on most topics connect with my field. Email me with your questions: azzad@me.com
14. Have you anything to add? Thank you to all my clients for their continued support and I look forward to welcoming regular as well as new clients in to the salon.
12. I understand you work very closely with local Attleborough photographer Andrew Roebuck, what is the idea behind this? The idea is that anyone who is interested in fashion, would like a more stylish individual look or family portrait can experience being made over and photographed by a professional stylist and photographer. 13. What individual skills do you both have which will help with the success of your joint venture? We are both highly creative individuals with an eye for perfection. Looking for people who want to bring the best out in themselves.
8. What plans have you for the future? To continue to offer a high level and professional service to my clients old and new. 9. Do you have any hobbies? Photography and running. 10. You have performed your hair cutting techniques on stage at shows around the country, what do you enjoy most about doing these demonstrations? The challenge mainly. Whenever I do these shows there is very little time to practise, so I am thinking a lot of the time on my feet. I also like the fact that I have to bring a lot of my own creative ideas to the stage, working alongside other top professionals within my field. 11. You have kindly agreed to do a question and answer column on a monthly basis in the Dispatch Magazine commencing August 2011, tell us what you plan to provide for our readers? 27 years experience in the hair dressing industry, including studio, stage, photography and magazine work. I feel I can answer a cross section of questions

Take Note Of The Following Tips To Avoid Any Problems Whilst Driving Drowned or lost key fobs It’s not unusual for motorists to either lose their keys in sand or take their remote control keys for a swim and then find that car doors won’t open. Salt in sea water can ruin electric circuits and render transponder keys useless. Keep keys safe and dry but also make sure that you know the alternative
method for getting into the car if the key fob fails.
Only take medication which doesn’t cause drowsiness
Hayfever Minimise the effect of hayfever when driving.
Glare Being blinded by sun glare causes many accidents, particularly under clear skies at dawn or dusk.
If you’re doing 70mph and sneeze you lose your vision for as much as 100 metres. Have a ‘fit’ of, say eight sneezes in a row, and you’ve just travelled ‘blind’ for nearly half a mile! Hayfever is particularly bad in the summer but accidents could be minimised if sufferers take action.
Keep a clean and unscratched pair of sunglasses handy but avoid Photochromic lenses, which darken in strong sunlight - the ultraviolet rays which trigger the change are filtered by the windscreen so that the glasses will change only slowly. This is dangerous when driving in and out of tunnels for example.
