Having commemorated Diss Grammar and Secondary Modern Schools, the museum now turns its attention to the Church Junior School.

Present Little Shop of Horrors.

Built in 1862, it celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. When the museum re-opens in March we will have an exhibition inspired by the school’s history if people send us enough items. There was an opening service for the New National School, Diss, on Thursday 27th November 1862. Subscribers, Friends and parents sang the hymn Great God, O’er Heaven and Earth Supreme; and prayed that the Holy Spirit would ever bless and sanctify those who teach and those who were taught in the school. It was housed in ‘noble and commodious buildings in the Parson’s Entry’ and replaced the schoolroom in the churchyard, still remembered as the Victoria Hall.

School, as did I and my brothers and sister. Nearly all the teachers from my time are now dead, apart from Miss Gladys Bullock and Mr. Roy Jones. Mr. Harry Pursehouse was headmaster and had been at the school since the 1930s. He and his two brothers were all schoolmasters and married three sisters. In the 1950s we wore a maroon school uniform. Pre-war pupils have told me that they did not wear uniform.

A musical comedy By Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, May 10th, 11th & 12th, 2012 at Diss Corn Hall. Trapped in Mr Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists, the only bright spot in Seymour Krelborn’s life is his secret love for ditzy co-worker, Audrey. That is until he discovers a strange and interesting plant… a plant that not only talks but has an insatiable appetite for human blood! This show will not only have you singing and

dancing but eyeing your begonias warily! Anyone interested in finding out more about the above production is invited to attend a presentation at Diss Junior School at 2pm on Sunday 8th Jan. Open auditions will be held at the Junior School on Sunday 29th Jan, from 2pm - 5pm. For more details phone Felicity Humfress on 01953 714 926 or Andy Kemp on 07789 110 928.

The Boudicca Way The rejuvenated long distance footpath running between Diss and Norwich train stations, has won a prestigious Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) Norfolk award.

The project, set up by Steve Falvey, who owns the Old Bakery 5 star B&B in Pulham Market, won an award in the ‘Improving the Landscape and Widening Understanding’ category, at the event held last Thursday evening, at Norwich’s Assembly House. The Boudicca Way was one of only 4 award winners from South Norfolk (one of the others being the restoration of Cavick House, a Grade 1 Queen Anne house near Wymondham). More than 100 people who were involved with the winning projects attended the special event and author Bill Bryson, president of the CPRE, was a special guest. He told the winners: “The CPRE Norfolk Awards are one of most genuinely inspiring things that I see in my role as CPRE President; they are so positive. It is a wonderful demonstration of the

Stacey & Partners Do you have anything to declare? We would associate these words with Customs and Excise, but increasingly HM Revenue and Customs are asking individual taxpayers this question, says Mark Wallace from Stacey & Partners.

Examples of task forces and campaigns include:-

If you receive any income, which is not taxed, then it needs to be declared to HM Revenue and Customs, usually by completing a self-assessment tax return. Tax returns for the year ended 5th April 2011, containing income to that date, are due to be submitted to HM Revenue and Customs by 31st January 2012. If sent into HMRC late, substantial fines can be incurred, and so it is important you contact H M Revenue and Customs now if you think you have anything to declare. There could be fines of approximately £1,200 for returns submitted very late, and then interest on top of that.

Living Wills

Comercrawley

Advance statements about medical treatment ….

The personal injury lawyers.

… more commonly known as Living Wills, are made by those who do not wish to burden their family with some of the most difficult decisions a family could have to make; Shall we allow our loved one to die? Would he or she have wanted to live like this?

at a traumatic time are carried out.

Your questions answered……

With our ‘In Home’ service you do not need to take time off work to visit the solicitor.

Question: I work in a factory and recently had an accident at work. I was injured quite badly and my family have been telling me that I should claim compensation.

Making a Living Will is one of the most unselfish decisions you can make. It sets out clearly your wishes if you are suffering from any one of a number of critical conditions such as severe or lasting brain damage.

A trained Estate Planning Consultant will take your Living Will instructions in the comfort and privacy of your own home at a time to suit you. Documentation is drawn up by Overburys Solicitors, a long established local solicitor’s practice, who are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This ensures that you receive the best possible protection and know that your Living Will has been correctly prepared to the highest possible standards.

I am worried however that if I make a claim my employer may face charges from the Health and Safety Executive. Answer: You need not be concerned. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will not be notified of your accident by you pursuing a claim for compensation.

It states that you fear indignity far more than you fear dying and asks that this be borne in mind when administering any treatment aimed at artificially sustaining your life.

To make an appointment contact our Diss office on 01379 641221 quoting Dispatch or email dispatchenquiries@overburysinhome.com.

If you pursue a compensation claim, your solicitor will send a letter detailing your claim to your employer who will forward it on to their insurers to deal with the claim on their behalf. Even if the insurers deny the claim and court proceedings need to be commenced, the HSE will not become involved as a result.

We are all tending to live longer, but not necessarily in the best of health: a Living Will is a way of ensuring that your wishes

Regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA Number 00058574).

A claim for compensation is a civil matter and is entirely separate to any involvement by the HSE.

The HSE may in fact already be aware of your accident. This is because if you had three or more consecutive days off work following the accident (or suffered what is defined as a “major injury”), your employer would be under an obligation to notify the HSE of your accident by completing and sending a report form to them (under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995). The HSE will then make a decision as to whether or not to carry out an investigation. The fact that a compensation claim is being pursued will have no bearing on their decision as to whether to investigate and, if they do so, on their consideration as to whether it is appropriate to take any enforcement action. If you have a question for our legal advice team you can submit it by email: enquiries@comercrawley.co.uk or in writing to: Chancery House, Victoria Road, Diss, Norfolk IP22 4HZ.

An interview with...

Christian Fairbrother of Rosedale Diss that Rosedale is the very best it can be in everything that it does. For me as a Trainee Funeral Director it meant having to learn the job from the bottom up and there is a lot to learn, some days I have found can be both physically and mentally exhausting depending on the situations you have been dealing with.

Above: Christian Fairbrother of Rosedale Diss Have you always lived around the area? Yes, I was born and lived in Ipswich before moving to Eye where I grew up. I have now lived in Diss for the last twelve years with my wife Julia. Tell us a little about yourself? As I have already said I grew up in Eye, where I attended both Eye Primary and Hartismere High School, and then Diss Sixth Form. I worked in payroll for a number of years before joining Rosedale, initially at Hamlin Electronics in Diss where I met Julia, before moving on to Suffolk New College in Ipswich. I have two cats Millie and Toddy, I enjoy jogging, watching football and Formula 1, camping trips as well as spending time relaxing with family and friends. You have recently joined Rosedale Funeral home, how are you finding it? I have just recently turned 37, I never really had any idea about what I wanted to do as a career once I had left school, but now I truly believe I have finally found my niche in life. All I can say is that I never get that Monday morning feeling anymore; I really love what I do, and look forward to going into work everyday. I think the best part of the job for me is that I know each new day will bring with it different challenges and new things to learn. The people I work with at our six branches are fantastic, and like me are all very passionate about making sure

Here is just an example of some of the jobs I have done in my short time here; looking after/driving the funeral vehicles, acting as a bearer on funerals, coffin preparation, working in the mortuary, carrying out hospital and home removals to bring the deceased into our care, being on call, carrying out viewings with families in our Chapel of Rest, arranging and conducting funerals as well as all the administrative work that goes with the role. How long have you been a funeral Director? I joined Rosedale as a Trainee Funeral Director on the 26th April 2011, which was seven months ago. I have recently commenced my studies on the Foundation Certificate in Funeral Service which should take about six months to complete, this is then followed by about a further 18 months study to achieve the Diploma in Funeral Directing. In your opinion what is unique to Rosedale? In my opinion what makes Rosedale unique as an independent family run funeral home is its attention to detail in everything that it does.

Therefore I want to make sure that through the work I do, I can live up to their reputations and hopefully build the same rapport with the families I meet, whilst making sure that I strive to achieve and maintain the high standards we aspire to at Rosedale.

We have to respond to technological developments as well, which means that we now help clients to develop online tribute websites, design personalised orders of service and receive donations in lieu of flowers online. What do you do in your spare time?

What area of your job do you get the most satisfaction from? During the last few months after initially shadowing my colleagues, I have now started to both arrange and conduct funerals on my own with families at Rosedale. I really love this part of the job as it makes me feel very privileged and proud that I am able to both help and provide guidance to a family during an extremely difficult time in their lives, following the loss of a loved one, by making sure all the arrangements for the funeral are put in place, and then ensuring that everything runs smoothly on the actual day of the funeral itself, so that the family does not have to worry about anything.

When I am not studying, I like to keep active and enjoy going out walking, running and cycling to keep fit. I enjoy spending time in the garden, relaxing, listening to music and reading, as well as socialising with friends. One of my passions is that I love to travel, both in the UK & abroad. During the summer my wife and I both love to spend time away at the weekends visiting the coast or places of interest and camping in our trailer tent.

Have your client’s needs changed over the years? As I am so new to the profession, I had to ask Derrick and Richard to answer this question for me. There is a lot more choices available for families now and over the years they have seen funerals become more personal and reflecting the life of the deceased through music, poetry and tributes.

When it comes to dealing with our families no detail in a funeral arrangement is ever too small or trivial to be overlooked, as it is often the small things that tend to make all the difference. What has been your biggest challenge since joining Rosedale? The biggest challenge I face is knowing that I will be following in the footsteps of Derrick Leeder and Richard Green, two very well known and highly respected Funeral Directors in our local community.

Crackers About Christmas

Attleborough Probus Club Report

Our fundraising event held at the Connaught Hall Attleborough.

The club Chairman David Waters opened the second November meeting by welcoming thirty three members and our speaker Frances Hart and her helpers.

The audience flooded into a sell out, music played lights on, ‘let the show begin’. Our young singer Tash started the event with a lovely solo followed by 4 flower arrangers from Breckland & Great Ellingham Flower clubs on stage, Ann Norris, Brenda Tubb, Christine Hewson & Joy Tumore. From a design of Crackers, too Parcels for Christmas, a Lovely white Lantern and candle design. Off to the Pantomime to see Alladin, followed by the wonderful display of an arch with pedestals of all white for the Church. Not forgetting the music and lights by our dear friend Peter.

To the Finale a solo Song, ‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas’ sung by Tash. With Snow Falling snowballs thrown from the 4 girls our evening flower arranging demonstration was complete. But then the fun began counting the money! Craft stall, tombola, raffle of flowers and a total raised of £2,700. Many thanks to everyone who supported with donations sponsorship and on the evening, Cheques were then presented to Starthrowers a support charity for Cancer patients and their families, which is located in Wymondham Norfolk.

Frances was taking us back to the past reliving the Christmases of Regency times and reacted the period with the dress of those days, she was ably assisted by Tim Hall who also entertained us by acting the part of Parson Hall. We enjoyed excerpts of Christmas music and nostalgia with readings etc that took us back to those days when George 3rd was on the throne in the mid 1700s and Jayne Austen was the popular author of the time. St Thomas’s day was on 21st December when the parson would hand out money to the poor. It was considered bad luck to put up Christmas decorations before 24th December. Ghosts had no power on Christmas Day. Posh dances were held at assembly houses and country dances were held in the villages. Extra food was delivered by Horse and Cart and extra food given to animals. Shops opened late, Theatricals were enacted in the barns. Wassailing was extensively carried outthe passing among family and friends of

large bowls containing a drink made from hot ale, apples, honey. and spices. Twelfth Night was a time of merry making and often got a bit rowdy with lively parties games and merry making, seems a general goodtime was enjoyed by all! Members were informed that Peter Beales and his wife were both in hospital; the club sent them their best wishes for a speedy recovery. The next meeting on the 30th of December was a members meeting followed by our Christmas dinner at the Stag Hotel in Attleborough. The meeting closed with an excellent vote of thanks by Tony Giles to Frances and all her helpers for taking us back and reliving the nostalgia of Christmas past. The Probus Club meet twice a month at the Connaught Bowls Club in Station road, Interested? Contact Stan Groom 01953 454427.

Beauty And The Beast Old Buckenham Players present their annual pantomime In January with a classic retelling of the 18th Century fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. The innocent Belle is held captive in the Beast’s castle after her father steals a rose from the Beast’s garden. Her beastly sisters, Clementina and Nectarina, also gang up on her while the sassy serving wench, the gabby Gabrielle, (is she bovvered?), and cuddly Claude do their best to protect her. The action is overseen by the good fairy Rosella, and wicked witch Maleva aided

by some sprites and demons. With keyboards from the talented Tom Key and an energetic cast this promises to be another winning pantomime from the local award-winning, versatile group. The show is on Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st January at 7.30 pm, with a special Matinee on Saturday at 2.30 pm. Attleborough Bible Society Thought for the Month, January 2012, Hope. “ Lay hold on the hope set before us, a hope that is a sure and steadfast anchor for our soul in heaven where Jesus has entered on our behalf” Hebrews 6 verses18-20 What hopes have we for 2012? An end to the wars that plague our planet? An end to all weapons of mass destruction? An end to the world-wide economic crisis and extremist views that teach hatred, not love?

The Bible is realistic about such hopes. Why? Because man in rebellion against God cannot change his flawed nature, all our hopes for a peaceful future are easily dashed! The answer lies in the risen Jesus-Christ who invites us to put our hope and trust in Him - come what may! With Jesus alive in us, we can know that there is a certain hope not only in this life but also, beyond death, a wonderful eternity.

Parents and carers, staff, students and friends came out in force to celebrate the achievements of Attleborough High School students at the school’s Annual Presentation Evening.

I cant believe that another year has passed. 2011 has gone in a flash.

young people for a life of success and achievement. The school’s Head Boy and Head Girl, Toby Moore and Emily Banks thanked Mr Henry Utku, who had stood in at the final hour as Guest Speaker. There were wide ranging awards recognising wonderful skills and talents that were distributed during the evening. During the evening we recognised the Year 11 2011 GCSE cohort, along with students in other year groups who had achieved highly over the past year. The event began with a beautiful song performed by the Year 7 School Choir and there was a musical interlude later in the evening when Sixth Former Perry McCabe showed his considerable talent as a piano player. Mr Neil McShane noted that celebrating success was a key feature of life at Attleborough High School. The school was delighted to welcome Mr Henry Utku, the successful basketball player. He gave an inspirational speech acknowledging the importance of school life in preparing

Amongst these, Mr Mike Bowen, Chief Executive of Quality Liaison Services gave out the Business Languages Award to students Emma Lascelles and Chelsea Secker, Mr Eddie Hughes from the Attleborough Rotary Club presented the Social Contribution Award to current Sixth Former Georgina McClaren and Mrs Dianne Burt, as representative of the Attleborough Parochial Church Council, presented Sixth Former Bethan Notely with the Religious Studies Award. Amongst others, Richard Adelugba was awarded the ‘All Round Achievement Award’, Daniel Dean the award for outstanding GCSEs and Jack Noonan the ‘Outstanding Progress Award’.

It started with disaster for Artichoke as the Hackford shop flooded just before Christmas so Andrea and I spent a very cold, depressed and wet January trying to rebuild our little business. We have however had the most amazing support from all our lovely ladies and the rest of the year although frantically busy, has been a lot of fun. We had some fantastic days at The Royal Norfolk Showand The Sandringham Flower Show, we have enjoyed hosting local charity events at Hackford and made lots of new friends in Norfolk and beyond…….so A BIG THANK YOU to all our customers for their support during the past year. Looking ahead we have another very busy year planned for 2012. Our Annual sale starts on the Tuesday 3rd January with both winter and summer stock available so pop in and bag a bargain especially if you have a cruise or mid winter break planned. There are great bargains to be had

with prices as low as £10! We will also have in stock a selection of lovely bright spring stock to cheer us all up.... cosy long sleeve t shirts, floral blouses and stripy shirts, lovely warm sweatshirts and gilets as well as thick knits just in case.................... In February we will be celebrating our Hackford shop’s third birthday and hope you will join us in these celebrations. If a group of 6 or more ladies book in advance to visit the shop during the month of February you will all receive a glass of fizz and a cup cake on arrival plus a discount on anything that you buy that day. If you fancy doing something to cheer yourselves up on a dark February day come and shop til your drop! Please call Andrea on 01953 851458 to make your booking. Best Dressed Window

There are many types of adverse weather conditions that have damaging effects on a property’s fascias and soffits.

Winner of the Attleborough Best Dressed window competition was EACH charity shop with their interpretation of the Snowman.

We see problems with damp, excessive condensation and general decay all the time.

Everything was made with items that had been donated to the shop.

The freezing snow and ice in these winter months can create cracks along the roof fascias which can cause the guttering and the fascia to come away from your house. The recent high winds could have loosened or blown down your Fascia or guttering system. One of the most common problems with faulty guttering is that the fascia and soffit become damp and susceptible to black mold and mildew. Not only is this a problem to your home, but a great number of health complaints can result as well. Whenever you have problems with one of either your fascia, guttering or Soffit, there is usually a problem with all three as they go hand in hand - when one sustains damage, all three will need repairing and/or replacing at the same time.

16 Dispatch January 2012

At first the damage is likely to be seen on the exterior. However, if left un-repaired, the damage could become much more extensive resulting in structural damage as well as damage to the interior of the building and/or contents. This is an ideal time to look for any signs of wind damage or winter frost damage that may need the repair or replacement of guttering, joining brackets or downpipes.

There were 19 entries in total, a record number. Judging was undertaken by Jane Patrick and Andy Free from Rosedale funeral home along with the Mayor of Attleborough Karen Pettitt and scrutineer

was Gill Hastie. Karen Pettitt said it was lovely to see so many shops and businesses taking part. It really shows that as a Town we all pull together and when you drive through the Town everything has a Christmas feel and the lights are the finishing touch. The shield was presented by Chairperson of Breckland Council Nigel Wilkin.

It can also be a good time to check the condition of fascia boards and soffits. Call Jason of J & S Homeworks on 01953 451169 or 07747 847606 for a free no obligation quote.

Peter Andre Makes ‘Child Of Courage’ Ellie’s Dream Comes True National pop star and Jungle celebrity Peter Andre made a Norfolk schoolgirl’s dreams come true. Show organisers Unisoft Systems arranged for courageous 14 year old Ellie Loades from Colkirk to be introduced to her idol backstage, after attending his concert at the Norfolk Showground on 10th September. Ellie said: “It was really amazing to meet him – he’s my idol. In ‘Peter Andre; My Life’ he is really nice and down to earth and he’s just the same in real life”. Earlier this year the plucky youngster, who attends Fakenham High School, was a runner-up in the Pride in Breckland Awards ‘Child of Courage’ category. Despite suffering from cystic fibrosis, Ellie is a regular at her local drama groups, taking part in productions as well as helping out with scenery, costumes and props. At the Awards Ceremony, all Child of Courage nominees were presented with a gift; Ellie’s was a signed photo of her hero, Peter Andre, and this currently takes pride of place on display in her bedroom. Her father, Nick was declared the overall

winner on the night in recognition of the selfless care he provides for both his daughter and his wife, who has multiple sclerosis and is wheelchair bound. Ellie will be able to re-live her special evening, as cameras were rolling throughout the evening for the ITV2 hit reality series ‘Peter Andre; My Life’.

Norfolk & Suffolk Power Flushing Any of these symptoms in my advert could indicate that your central heating system has problems from internal corrosion, rust, sludge and scale. A power flush can restore circulation and efficiency to your central heating system by removing these products. The process involves connecting a power flushing pump to the existing central heating pump valves, or across the tails of a radiator. Specialist chemicals are then pumped around the heating system to loosen and mobilise the unwanted debris.

Each radiator is then individually flushed until clean and on completion, an inhibitor is added to prevent further corrosion. The whole process is carried out with minimal disturbance and disruption. Post-Natal Clinical Pilates We think of Pilates as a relatively new form of exercise; however it has been used for many years. In 1914 a gentleman called Joseph Pilates developed an exercise regime for fellow soldiers who had become ill or injured and these exercises continued to develop until Pilates’ death. Today Physiotherapy is rapidly proving the importance of muscle balance and evidence in the nineties shows that imbalances and injuries of the lumbar spine and peripheral joints can be helped with Pilate’s exercises. Amongst Physiotherapists Pilates is now used not only as a form of treatment but also as an assessment tool, looking at where imbalances occur and treating them with specific exercises. Emma is qualified in ‘Modified Pilates’, which is a safe form of Pilates for anyone with a musculoskeletal condition or injury. Postnatal Pilates can be extremely

beneficial; it increases energy levels and improves stability and strength to aid the return of the woman’s pre-pregnancy body type. It is a gentle form of exercise which can be built around the new Mum’s lifestyle to increase exercise tolerance. The breathing involved in Pilates helps to relieve the tension and stress of life with a new baby. A Pilate’s session with a qualified Physiotherapist can allow Mum a well deserved break! Emma is trained in Modified Pilates, she will take history and do a Physiotherapy assessment in your own home so that she is aware of your individual needs and can then go on to create a tailored Pilates programme postnatally. The best bit is, there is no need to find a babysitter!

They’re then delivered by a friendly, local delivery driver, who is always happy to put meals away in the freezer if preferred. With the freezer stocked up, you know that a hot meal is only ever a few minutes away.

Recently, national treasure Ronnie Corbett joined Wiltshire Farm Foods for a TV and magazine campaign promoting the delicious meals - and the independence they bring. The TV adverts also feature Edith and Eric, who talk to Ronnie about the benefits of the service. If you’ve not seen them yet, keep a look out.

Nutrition For Generally Fit And Healthy Older Adults Activity Research shows that remaining active can help to maintain both mental and physical health. Keeping up the activities you enjoy doing will help to maintain physical fitness and preserve muscle tissue. Preserving your strength will help to maintain your independence. Remember, activity doesn’t necessarily mean joining an exercise class. Gardening, walking to the shops and housework can all count as types of

activity too. Energy requirements can decline with age, particularly if physical activity is limited, but the need for protein, vitamins and minerals remains the same. It’s vital that food choices are nutritionally dense, which means you still need to eat a variety of foods to get all the vitamins and minerals you need, but with fewer calories. If you’re overweight or obese, it’s even more important to be calorie conscious.

promoting independence in all individuals. Reminiscence activities are available for individuals with dementia.

Freshly cooked meals which are cooked on the premises are also provided to our guests.

Able Community Care Has been providing live-in care services throughout mainland UK and the Channel Islands since 1980. Our clients, who range in age from their early twenties to centenarians, have all chosen to remain living in their own home rather than moving into a residential care home.

• My family wanted me to stay in my own home, but they were worried about me on my own in case I fell. Having live-in care in my home eliminates their worries.

When we ask our clients why they have chosen to have a live-in care package rather than move into a home where they could also have 24 hour care, we receive comments such as:

• I look forward to the same carers returning to me on a regular basis. My carers shop for the foods I like and cook them well for me.

• I can have independence in my own home. I can be spontaneous, if the sun is shining and I fancy being pushed round the park I can go. • Having 1:1 care means that no day is the same. When I was more able I could choose how to spend my days. Having live-in care means I can still do that.

Able Community Care has provided just under fifty million hours of care and we have been able to help thousands of people and their families. If you would like our information pack or want to find out more about our care provision, please give us a call on 01603 764567 or visit www.uk-care.com.

Winter Is The Harshest Season For Any Vehicle. The Cold Weather Will Affect Any Part That Is Weak So before the winter months come around, it is best to check your vehicle and replace any parts that are weak. This will insure you are not left out in the cold. The first and most basic step in preparing your vehicle for winter is radiator coolant. By adding antifreeze to your radiator this insures that the water the vehicle needs to cool down the motor will not freeze in the cold weather. If the water freezes, it is not able to cool down the motor, which could lead to a blown motor and also the radiator could crack because of the frozen water. You also check the battery condition, make sure all the cables are not torn or corroded, if so change before the winter months. Also, the vehicle takes more power to start in winter, it is best to do a battery test to make sure it has enough charge for the winter.

34 Dispatch January 2012

If it fails a re-charge test, invest the money into buying a new one. Your windshield washer solvent should also be formulised for winter, it could also freeze and cause damage to the windshield wiper system. Also make sure all the hoses are not clogged and clean the washer nozzles out with a thin piece of wire. This will insure if you need to use your windshield washer solution in a hurry - it is available. The electrical system of the vehicle should be checked. Check to make sure the distributor cap, points, condenser, ignition coil, spark plugs and spark plug cables are all in good shape. If any of these items are having difficulties in the summer, they will definitely go out in the winter.

It is best to have them changed before winter. Check all the hoses and belts, if any of these have signs of extensive wear such as cracks, it is best to

also replace them. Prepare for winter emergencies, if you live in a climate that there is heavy snowfall, keep extra blankets and water just in case of an emergency.

M.R.King & Sons Promising times at Halesworth’s Volvo Dealership. • M.R.King & Sons now offers 12months’ roadside assistance with every Volvo service for any age or mileage of Volvo including European cover • Roadside assistance forms part of a six-point pledge for customers as the business ramps up its aftersales offering • M.R. King & Sons has launched the package to encourage Volvo drivers to remain in the franchised network Local Volvo dealership M.R. King & Sons has launched a new service promise programme including complimentary roadside assistance. The new aftersales scheme, known as the Volvo Service Promise, aims to encourage Volvo drivers to continue to use the dealership at Quay Street in Halesworth for servicing and maintenance by providing the best service package possible. Explains service manager Mark Chatfield: “Our service promise is a direct response

to our commitment to our customers as well as a reflection of the times - people are watching every penny so we need to be extremely mindful of that and offer the very best benefits in one affordable package. Our Service Promise is so strong that we are confident motorists won’t even want to shop around which means we are also saving them time and hassle.” The Volvo Service Promise:• Once the service has been undertaken, 12 months’ Roadside Assistance is provided as standard – called SARA (Service Activated Roadside Assistance) - for any age or mileage of Volvo including European cover • Technicians will check the Volvo software is the most up-to-date version and adjust where required • Customers are given a named person who remains the face-to-face contact from start to finish for improved service and continuity

• Several options are in place to make dropping off and picking up the car as easy as possible • Technicians check the car’s key systems, which may not form part of the regular service schedule, with its complimentary health check to ensure vehicles remain in the best possible condition for the road • A complimentary wash and vacuum for a squeaky clean car Volvo has strived to develop innovative customer solutions to both boost loyalty as well as supporting customers in such cash strapped times.

With our Service Promise we have successfully combined value-formoney, additional benefits and the peace-of-mind associated with using an approved Volvo facility.” “What’s more, motorists using a franchised dealer will maximise the car’s future value. Recent research* found that used car buyers place greater value on vehicles that have a franchised dealer service history which in turn could boost a car’s resale value.

“A Volvo franchised dealership is the best place to service your new or used Volvo,” explains Mark.

I think we have developed a win-win. Customers can enjoy a first-class package of benefits at competitive prices whilst receiving that allimportant dealer stamp in the service log which will help achieve the best future resale price.”

“Our technicians are factory-trained, we only use genuine parts and manufacturer-approved equipment but we also recognise that consumers are quite rightly, demanding more for their money.

M.R.King & Sons is based in Halesworth for Volvo and can be contacted on 01986 874464 via email enquire@mrking.co.uk or visit them on the web at www.mrking.co.uk.
